We absolutely love Gourmet Cafe! The food is all made fresh from scratch by the owner/chef! We have been happy with every meal we have ever gotten there. Generous portion sizes, but the option to size down if wanted (full size or 1/2 portions available). It's always served fresh and hot! The flavors are really delicious and I really appreciate the extensive gluten free option. He makes things gluten free that you really can't get anywhere else. For example, the gluten free eggplant and/or chicken parm, chicken tenders, pizza, pastas, a variety of homemade desserts (the carrot cake is one of my favorites), etc. The service is always super friendly!! Many of the servers have been there for a very long time, which is nice! They know the menu, they know the customers, and they seem to really enjoy working there! It was fairly quiet for a Friday night; with the exception of a single mom with four small kids, one being a clearly overtired infant. Wine and beer -pricey at $9+ a glass and $8+ a can for a local brew - I still can't figure out why with as robust of a wine industry here in New York State few restaurants serve New York State wine?! Considered the pasta bowl but felt at almost $30 with so many pasta sauce choices, chances were the offerings were frozen and waiting for a trip to the microwave. Service was wonderful - the food was...meh... one of us had chili and a turkey sandwich which he only rated as OK. I had a baked seafood newburg dish which was huge and sadly snooze worthy. The best part of the meal was the garlic bread and we took a piece of tiramisu home for dessert which was very good. Heard about this place from a few friends and wanted to give it a go. I regret that. The idea of having a chef and having a pasta bar, and the chef making your meal in front of you is great. And that's why I gave this place two stars. The two stars were for the cool idea. You can either get your meal from the pasta bar( if they have it that night) or you order from the regular kitchen. The food is bland, the garlic bread they give you appears to be stale and extremely hard. The chicken Parmesan had no great flavor and was again very hard/burned. Everyone's noodles whether we ordered at the pasta bar, or through the actual kitchen were extremely watery and even the sauce was very watery and liquid like. The rigatoni and bow ties fell apart while picking them up because of how wet they were. Very gross. Atmosphere is like a cheap little diner. I won't come back here. read more

And we truly like to support our small businesses but... 1st experience was amazing, I ordered the turkey, apple, cranberry panini and my husband ordered the Reuben. Both sandwiches were huge and delicious. 2nd experience, we ordered the same sandwiches which were good but much smaller sized. Our 3rd experience was last night for which we ordered take out again. My husband ordered the Reuben and he said there definitely was less corned beef and taste of ingredients was off . I ordered the turkey, cranberry apple panini again but this time the bread was toasted on just one side and very soggy and there was literally a tablespoon sized amount of turkey on each half. Unfortunately, my panini ended up being a soft, wet sloppy mess. We're disappointed over the quality of our last experience especially for the price point. read more

I really love Gourmet Cafe for lunch. Glens Falls has a lot of dining options right now, and this place is both low-key and saddled with an unfortunately generic name. But once you walk inside you notice it's naturally retro, like a Woolworth's lunch counter, and the food is superb. I often go for the Cobb Salad, but the daily sandwich specials are always outstanding, and the desserts are rich and ideal for sharing. I notice people aren't enthused about the pasta night here, and I tend to agree, but hey, there are plenty of great spots for dinner on Glen Street. For lunch, on the other hand, I don't think there's a better place than Gourmet Cafe. read more

Stopped in for lunch. The cafe was quite busy at the peak of the lunch "hour". The waitstaff were completely on top of taking care of all the customers. Very friendly and welcoming environment. We decided to split one Turkey, Cranberry, Apple and Cheese panini with a side order of home fries. Our waitress was very accommodating bringing us an extra plate, silverware and side pickle. The sandwich was delicious! The sliced apples on the panini were pre-cooked, seasoned with cinnamon and tender. The hand-cut fries were hot and tasty. We were intrigued with this place while walking by about a year ago. A convenient opportunity arrived tonight to dine here before attending a performance at the Charles Wood Theater a few doors up the block. We passed up the opportunity to dine al fresco on the sidewalk because of the forecast for storms and a threatening looking sky. The wine list was a page of whites and a page of reds. My wife chose a Heron Riesling ($6.50/glass) while I selected a bottle of Coopers Cave Stout ($6.75/22 oz) from the local brewer. The wine was serviceable enough that a second glass was ordered when needed. The stout, on the other hand, was anything but a robust stout and I'll try to remember to skip it if the opportunity arises again. Our server Jill was very pleasant from start to finish. She promptly brought us a basket of hot garlic bread that was flavorful and tasted quite freshly baked. We ordered the Shrimp Brochettes ($9.59) for our appetizer - six good-sized marinated grilled shrimp skewered on a bed of basmati rice with a pistachio chutney. The shrimp were properly cooked with a bit of snap in each bite and the very delicious pistachio chutney added another dimension with both flavors and crunch. The rice seemed to have a nice flavor of both an oil and butter. Definitely an "order again" dish. Entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. There were four different soups to chose from and two were calling out to us. The Buffalo Cheddar was a bit disappointing. It needed some additional texture to go with the flavor of Buffalo spicing. The Three Cheese Broccoli was a real hit with us - flavors and texture abound. My wife chose the Mushroom Ravioli ($18.99) - wild mushroom stuffed ravioli with boneless chicken breast, asparagus, sundried tomatoes and shallots in a light sherry cream sauce. Overall, a nice tasting dish, in spite of the chicken being overcooked, but nothing memorable or outstanding. I opted for the Apple and Sausage Stuffed Pork Loin ($17.99) - two thick slices of center-cut loin, each topped with Italian sausage, herbs, and granny smith apple, and a serving of roasted garlic mashed potatoes. The pork was cooked a bit longer than I typically like it, but it was not yet dry. The caraway seed in the herb stuffing added a very pleasant and unexpected flavor. A few young asparagus spears had been added to the dish and were just average as were the mashed potatoes. Our server said that three of the approximately 10 items on the dessert list were made in-house. Of those three I decided to try the Carrot Cake ($4.99). Again, this was just OK. I would have liked it to be more moist and to have had more frosting on it. If the opportunity avails itself again, we would return to try some other items on the menu. Maybe a lunch with burgers, wraps, or sandwiches would be interesting. read more

After hearing raving reviews about Gourmet Cafe, we decided to stop in last night for dessert after dinner in town. Upon arrival, we were greeted right away and sat distanced appropriately from other tables, yet not by ourselves. It was just two of us, while a small party (6 or so people) was going on. That didn't stop Sarah, our amazing server, from providing wonderful service though! She was very attentive and made suggestions on the dessert menu for us. The desserts were absolutely outstanding! We had a white chocolate pumpkin cheesecake and a vanilla cheesecake with fresh strawberry purée. We didn't even know until after finishing them both that they were Gluten Free! I've never had a GF dessert that tasted so much like a "traditional" dessert! The house-made graham cracker crust was out of this world! This was our first time at Gourmet Cafe, so Sarah happily explained the weekly specials to us and gave us a menu to browse. We can't wait to go back soon! This was literally the worst meal I've had out. My fiance and I both ordered the chicken parm - the chicken tasted like a frozen brick of chicken breaded in sawdust quick, and then dropped in a deep fryer. Food took awhile so we were told that dessert was on the house. We declined - at that point we were disgusted. My fiance only had a few bites of the chicken and later got very sick. Stay away! We walked in here, not expecting much at all. The decor is practically non-existent, and the furniture looks like they grabbed it from a PTA meeting, but some of the food really surprised us! What swayed me the most was that here we are in a restaurant that looks like a cheap diner ( aren't they all cheap? ) and they had a mushroom consomme special. I'm thinking, yeah, whatever, mushroom broth. But the waiter explained to us what a consomme is, you strain out impurities using egg white, and I was floored. In here? A REAL consomme? For 5 bucks??? WOW. So we ordered one, along with the pumpkin lentil soup. Both were great, and yes, it WAS consomme! My reuben was more average, too much cheese, and someone else's burger was average too. We've been here numerous times over the past couple of years, and it's by far our favorite calorie splurge. We usually go on the pasta nights, where Chef Francis will create a dish based on what you want in it. He can make up to "40 different sauces", and my favorite is the basil pesto cream sauce with white wine. I am open to experimentation so I'll let Chef Francis make a recommendation, and only seldomly do I get a sauce I'm not too fond of. (As a taste preference only). I've also been here for lunch. The food is good and a great value considering you'd pay almost that much at a fast food restaurant these days. For dinners, make sure you get a reservation (especially on hockey nights). read more

We love the gourmet café and routinely go there for their Friday night " make your own" pasta bowls. I have started ordering off of their catering menu and bringing dinner home one night a week from gourmet café to give myself a break from cooking. it's cheaper than McDonald's for five people and we always have leftovers. I decided on the Ruben with fries and a French onion soup. The soup was very tasty a bit different from traditional French onions I have had in the past but very pleasant. The Ruben however was amazing, I have have tried hundreds of Rubens and this one truly was the best. Stacked high with corned beef homemade Russian dressing cheese melted to perfection sauerkraut with just a bit of zing and topped with perfectly grilled marbled rye.
