Okay for beers. Not recommended for food or other drinks. It was 3pm on a Saturday, and we were the only table with a half dozen folks at the bar. Potato skins were over cooked, cheese curds were fine, burger came out undercooked and close to raw. While they made me a new one, the service was mediocre at best. We had to get our last round and close the tab at the bar after waiting for our server who never returned. Sorry to say we won't be returning. There was live music and a dmall dance floor as well as an outdoor seating area Plenty of large seating areas for a group, the menu was upscale bar food and the bar had plenty of beer and drink selections. Dive bar with a decent menu, friendly staff, and cold drinks. As long as you aren't expecting something that this isn't, you'll be fine. They have a menu full of classic bar food options. The staff took great care of us and they clearly know all the regulars sitting around the bar. It felt like we were the only ones that didn't know everyone else, but by the time we left, we felt like part of the family. The food wasn't horrible but it's your typical bar food. We started with cheese curds and banging shrimp, both were perfect to share but don't expect anything fancy. The patty melt came out hot and it was cooked how I asked. Walked in and after standing around for a couple minutes didn't get any acknowledgment of my presence until I started staring at the woman(?) behind the bar. She finally said hello and I very politely asked her if they serve food. She said yes and asked where I was seated. I pointed to my seat and went and sat down thinking she was going to come give me a menu and take my order. Apparently I misunderstood how it works because after sitting there for about ten minutes and nothing happened I just got up and left. My family and I stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon before I had to fly out. I really love this place. Like I always say, I am not a huge fan of chains and I remember coming here for other occasions and loving the vibe. It is better to come at night when there is live music and also better to come in the summer time when you can sit outside. Its a very cool atmosphere and really close to the airport so its convinient to stop in before you head that way. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the service was just a little bit slow. The bar was full but there were only 2 other tables. It took a bit for us to get another drink and to cash out. But I think it was because they were training new bartenders. My wife and I have stopped in a few more times, we live a mile away. I've had the bacon lettuce tomato upgraded version, the Italian beef sandwich and my wife has had the chicken sandwich and the French dip beef. All four were the best sandwiches we've had in the four years since we moved from Chicago!!! The service is very good and the prices are very good, a bit of a "rustic" ambiance but I love it. EDIT: I had to add more at the bottom because my wife told me I was entirely too jolly on writing this review. So I had to add a little disdain to this review. My wife and I, her parents, and our kids went here for a less than enthralling experience. My wife is enthusiastically encouraging me to write this review - teehee!! And I'm going to do so with GLEE! I either write on my experiences with an enthusiastic zest and zeal, or with an abundance of shame and viciousness. I don't comment on middle-ground. You either have to delight me or significantly disappoint me to get me to write. (I'm looking at you, Salvino's in Wayland.) First off, let's get this out of the way - Gippers is a bit of a dive sports bar. I've been there several times and each was less than stellar. Fam went on Tuesday $2 taco trivia night. Now, I'm awesome at trivia. But even my fantastic awesomeness couldn't save this experience. I would say "epicurean experience," but we waited at our table for 45 minutes and nobody even acknowledged our existence. Not a waiter, not a bartender, hell I'm not sure the other patrons were even aware we were there - I doubt they even felt the warmth of our presence. We signaled. We flagged. We spoke to the bartender. Nada, nothing. Apparently my rakish good looks and fantastic personality precluded anybody there from taking my hard-earned American dollars. My Job-like gift of patience was tested and found lacking; as lacking as anybody to even get us water or take our drink order. We played one round of what somebody would like to call trivia (but really isn't) and we had to go someplace else. *sigh* At least it wasn't as bad as Salvino's. ADDITION: Our experience was thoroughly disappointing. Downright rude. We walk in, and we are seated at a couple high-tops hastily put together by the bartender. We sit. We wait. We wait longer. Waiting longer still. 30 or so minutes. A waitress stops by and asks us if she is carrying our order. Lady, we haven't ordered or gotten drinks or even seen a menu, yet. She walks away with an armful of food that is somebody else's order. Here's the fun part! The order was for a table of people seated about 15 minutes after we were. MIL goes to the bar and asks if anybody will be waiting on us. Apparently, a waitstaff member should have been by at least by then, but hadn't. At this time, some guy and his friend come into the bar, and the bartender who seated us gave his buddy a large embrace, a hearty "there he is! Hey, MAAAAAAAN!" Then took his drink order and had it in front of his good good buddy in record time. How nice! And the seven of us still sitting at a table off to the side, no drinks, food, menus, or even a waitress acknowledging we even exist, and two more tables that arrived after us receive what I'm sure Gipper's would consider acceptable if not exemplary service. Damn near two full rounds of trivia in, we're out. Done. We leave and nobody acknowledges us because, apparently, my money isn't green enough to be spent there. Screw 'em, we went to Cascade Roadhouse and had a lovely meal. $160.00 later, which we could have spent at Gipper's if they were so inclined to even bring a fucking menu our direction, everybody is fed, and ready to go home. Hunker down for the evening. I doubt my words here can adequately convey the feeling or revulsion we feel with regard to this poor excuse for an establishment. Good job, Gipper's!! It's not much to look at on the outside. The parking lot is need of some love and the building could use even more. But I'll cut to the chase: I was impressed by the food. Why? It's a bar. I expect a lot of fried everything. This was not to be. To a person, all six of us, the sandwiches far exceeded our expectations. The turkey sandwich special with bacon on it, as the server described it, wasn't just bacon. It was a bacon-jam style and the turkey was piled high. And this wasn't just your run-of-the-mill sourdough that it was on. It was fresh and had a homemade feel and taste. I would definitely go back. read more

Did you know this place use to be a horse barn?! It's a big place and there is a semi private room to play pool. I've never attended but I know they do karaoke nights and they have a super long running happy hour. Seriously, it's all day. Today, for lunch, my bf and I ordered chicken tenders, potato skins and a grilled chicken sandwich. The serve was attentive. This place is what it's meant to be, a bar with solid pub food. You aren't going to eat the best pub food you've ever had, but if you are hungry you'll leave happy. The chicken tenders were ok; kind of on the dry side. Breading was 5/10. I ordered a side of sweet chili sauce which was really good. I'm going to try the boneless wings next time with this sauce. The potato skins are my favorite and I order them every time I come. They are huge and will fill you up! They are topped with ham, bacon, cheese and scallions. The ranch is amazing so just order a bunch and pour it on everything. My bf's chicken sandwich was decent. Again, the chicken was on the dryer side but I liked it. We dipped it in bbq sauce and ranch. The chips on the side were good and are lightly salted which I like. read more

Haven't been here in years. Took my youngest here for his birthday. Walked inside and didn't know if we were to seat ourselves or wait. Finally we sat ourselves when no one sat us after a few minutes. Waited about another 10 minutes before someone finally came to get our order. I ordered the wet burrito. My boy ordered a half rack of ribs and my wife ordered a club sandwich. I actually got to try all 3 meals at some point, so I can give personal comments on all of it. Let's start with the ribs. Dry rub ribs can be great. These were delicious. Nice char on the ribs with a very good seasoning to them. Very tender. The club sandwich is next. I got to take half of it the next day for lunch. I was surprised it tasted as good as it did. Stacked to the max. Now onto the burrito. This is the main reason for the low rating. It tasted good, it was just delivered to me cold. I took one bite and couldn't believe it. It wasn't even Luke warm. They did take it bake and heated it up a bit. But it still wasn't as hot as it should have been. The cheese on the inside wasn't even melted like it should be. I give the 2 meals very high ratings. One meal gets low marks. And the lack of service at the beginning was not good. Don't get me wrong. When our server did come and tend to us, she stayed on top of it. Even with the low rating, I will be back to give it another try. Probably get the ribs myself. read more

I reconnect the Friday perch basket special some of the best fish I've had in a long time. Portion size was definitely good I couldn't even finish it all. Very nice and clean was my first impression. Several hand sanitizers. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was more than impressive and I'm a critic. I've worked in kitchens for over ten years with a majority of the time as a KM. I started with the jalapeño poppers and they were outstanding. They were even made!! Not a frozen product they have a grilled option also which I've never really seen offered. Tried them both and they were both outstanding. My girlfriend had the French onion soup and that tasted authentic. It was like an explosion of flavor on each bite! For our main courses, I had the burger with bacon, cheese and grilled onions. 9 Oz patty! 1 Oz more than most places. Great taste and cooked to perfection. It came with delicious house made ketlle chips with this dip infused with grilled onions... it was so good. She had the puffy tacos which were very very tasty. All in all I'll definitely be back and would highly recommend this place to really anyone that likes food. read more

Hands down the best staff and camaraderie in the forest hills area. Bloody Mary is on point and drinks are served stiff. we have been coming here for years never had a complaint. The wait staff has always been attentive to the point some knew our usual order. Uunfotunately due to the virus we were unable to visit for a year plus. when we were able to return everthing was the same except the cook he seemed to be in the front of the house more then in the kitchen and the food showed it. Final straw that got me to write this revue was I was in the the mens room when said cook came in ranting to himself how under appreciated and under paid he was and the wait staff got all the glory. we'll be back when the owner finds a cook who cares about his cliental more then his ego. read more

The atmosphere here is very nice. It kind of reminds me of a smaller town bar. Lots of wood and very inviting. The staff is very friendly. I ordered a 1/2 order of house made boneless bbq wings. Followed by Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and onion rings. The wings were extremely good and plentiful. The Meatloaf was very tender and juicy, and wrapped in bacon. It was very good, better than most I've had. The mashed potatoes were good but nothing special and the onion rings were very underwhelming. My drink refills were fast and friendly. Overall I was very happy. Probably 4 1/2 stars. In this case it deserves a round up not a round down. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be back! read more
