I contacted Greg and the Gizmo crew in 2007 to have A/V with integrated outdoor cameras and interior sound system, computer, and phone and intercom system built in to our 2 story down to the studs home renovation. We have 6 tvs and 1 projection screen; a tv + projection screen in our great room, 1 tv each in the kitchen, in the master bedroom, bath, office and guest room. We also had Greg add window closeouts for daytime viewing of the projection screen. Greg was very professional and thorough from the first site survey through the completion of the project and beyond. He selected, listed, provided specification info and priced all the components and the install cost. The Gizmo crew arrived when scheduled with all items necessary and performed the installation in a time wise and efficient manner. Since the initial installation, the system has performed excellently. When I needed any adjustments to the system or upgrade to components, Greg has always been very responsive either being able to provide the component directly or directing me where I can get the best buy. I bought a house that had an existing control 4 system in place. I didn't know anything about Control 4 and I needed help integrating my home theater components into the system. Gizmo sent out a tech and he got everything working great. I'm very pleased with how the system is set up. I recently added a new video component to the system and the tech added it to the control 4 system immediately via remote access. Home automation is not easy. So to the extent you begin an automation project, be prepared for troubleshooting, bug fixing, and frustration. After all this is not plug and play. Home automation requires custom programming and support. With that said, I have a number of friends that work with various home automation companies that install both Control 4 and Crestron. All have had issues! The companies that stand out keep at it until the process, as you want it, is put into place. Gizmo is one such company. Most companies will eventually throw in the towel, but Gizmo keeps at it. Home automation is about customizing your house to your needs. There is no one size fits all system. The Gizmo techs are highly competent and thoughtful. When I purchased my house, the prior owner had disparate systems. Separate alarm, separate lighting, separate pool control, and separate camera navigation. Each system stood alone. Gizmo managed to integrate all of them, in addition to overlaying flood control sensors with an automatic shut off valve, network video recorder, and theater controls. Gizmo is pricey, but anyone looking for this level of support and home automation should not be looking for a deal to begin with. I have worked with Greg and found him to be accommodating and patient. Again, home automation is not for the faint of heart nor something that comes out of the box. For those of you that are willing to invest time and money, Gizmo is a great solution. read more

I hired this company late last year to do both some computer network work and some A/V work (i have a decent sized house with a lot of, um, gizmos). I specifically told them i was looking for longterm support, since over time i'm adding components, things need to be tweaked, etc. i was really hoping to find a company where i would have a tech or two who would know my systems and wouldn't have to get up to speed with each visit. I'm not really the type to write letters or post reviews for that matter, but Gizmo was immensely frustrating. They have a truly horrible employee - unfortunately the one who is their main customer service person. This woman Jessica traffics their jobs. They charge a lot for their services - $75 an hour - probably average for this type of work, but still- not chump change, and from their biling i think they may charge for drive time as well. i had 4 or 5 small fixes on my audio system plus a computer network issue that was a bit more involved. the problem is, with complicated systems you can fix one thing but in troubleshooting if you aren't careful can screw other things up. this happend on both the a/v and computer network sides. I can handle that, it's par for the course, but had an immensely frustrating time with Jessica woman who refused to believe that her techs had not behaved perfectly i found their technicians for the most part to be solid and knowledgeable. But anyone who is familiar with complicated computer networks and A/V systems knows that there is trial and error involved in troubleshooting, and things can go wrong. On both the A/V side andthe network side, some things were done to my systems that, while the issue i needed fixed may have been fixed, something else that had been working fine before was now off. After some back and forth following initial A/V and computer visits, much of the back and forth unfortunately having to do with things the techs tweaked and then had to fix (meanwhile, i'm getting billed by the hour), the Jessica woman gives you this icy tone and makes you feel like you are totally wrong. Two things that Jessica said on my last call to her that appalled me so much I actually wrote them down. The first was "IF we are going to work together in the future (accent on the if)" --- considering that I had hired Gizmo with the idea (and had both spoken to and emailed Jessica pre-starting regarding this ) of wanting a company that understood my systems and would send the same techs out when I wanted an upgrade say 6 months later). This was followed by "you had better understand that my technicians are flawless". This is a RIDICULOUS statement to make. When I say "well, the computer network was working fine as a network for 2 years of day-to-day use until Bob changed something, i was just hoping he could add an AirPort to it, but now i can't get online", she gives me more of this icy voice and attitude. Literally to the point where it's uncomfortable to even discuss this, she has such an attitude on the phone. So I basically threw in the towel with these people and called in other help who fixed the situation in an hour or two. then i get a $900+bill from Gizmo-billed for all the time that techs were fixing probs they had set off in the first place, billed for "training" techs following the main one to learn, and probably even billed for travel time. thanks for nothing. Again, i understand that this stuff isn't all cut-and-dried, but don't make ME feel like i'm the bad guy here. So - if you want to use a firm whos techs are "flawless" - well you can't go wrong with Gizmo. just don't try to tell their customer service person anythingotherwise. read more

My husband, both personally and professionally has used Gizmo, as have our children and their friends. We have found their work to be of the utmost quality and their knowledge is unsurpassed. They have even been able to talk me through a problem, over the phone, knowing my exact install, and what buttons to tell me to press. We have found their customer service to be excellent, knowing how attached we are to our "electronics". Price wise, they are not cheap, but then they always say you get what you pay for, and with Gizmo, that is exactly true. read more

I've had nothing but a terrific experience with Greg (owner), Larry (lead installer) and the full Gizmo team. I had a complex whole home automation project involving Control 4 with automated lights, music, TV, blinds, doors, garage, locks, pool, and others. This is my second house with whole home C4 automation, and I can say that Gizmo operated much more effectively, efficiently, and knowledgeably versus my prior AV company. Larry was terrific in customizing the house to my individual preferences, and was always respectful with my house and my family. Gizmo's prices are fair relative to the quality of their work. Perhaps most importantly, they have been extremely responsive to quickly rectifying any issues that arose, which are inevitable in any automation project of this magnitude. They clearly take pride in the quality of their work and stand by it. This is a far cry from other companies that I've seen disappear once they have your money. Greg and his team are very good at what they do. They did the whole A/V install when I bought a new house: two wall mounted flat screens, multiple components, surround sound in the living room and housewide audio (including backyard by the pool) and Internet/telephony. The helped me spec the right equipment, advising when the cheaper option was just as good as the pricey stuff and, conversely, where it was worth spending a bit more for the better stuff. They are clean, obsessive about quality and highly knowledgeable. They tiewrap all cables, organize equipment on racks where possible and do a great job of keeping the aesthetics nice.
