The hubz took me out for V-Day to Glacier Brew. I'm not the one to be impressed by V-Day dinner because you should be taking me out often for love dates - but it was an awesome time! ANYWAYS.... It was a surprise at how good their food was. I've eaten here multiple times and was never really impressed by their food OR service but this time I was severely impressed with their food and service! We started with the app trio tower. It had salmon dip, fried calamari and a seafood chicken dish. The smoked salmon dip was put together weird but showed off the salmon dip super well && was good! The calamari was tender and the seafood chicken mix was melt in your mouth. Seafood chowder - always great! The steak was good - I think I enjoyed the sauce and crispy onions more than anything but I'm picky when it comes to steak - but it was cooked perfectly! I was a bit skeptical because of the 'welcome cruise lines' on the menu, but this vegetarian foodie was pleasantly impressed. I found this on Yelp based on doing a search for restaurants near us and came across this popular place. We walked in at around 4:30 PM on a Wednesday night and got a table for three right away. It was already pretty busy inside the restaurant. We enjoyed the crab stuffed cod entree since the waitress said it was popular. The field greens salad with strawberries was great and the calamari appetizer was good. Our 15 month old had the chicken fingers entree from the kids menu that came with a nice fruit cup with grapes and strawberries that he loved. His meal also came with a sundae. The King Crab legs were amazing here! Easy to peel, super fresh and meaty! Just order that period!! 1.5 lb for $80 Hearty seafood chowder, it was good but a bit too salty for my taste. We thought we wouldn't have enough food, so we added the Appetizer Tower that includes: garlic prawns, calamari, and smoked salmon dip with some bread. The bread were really hard, and the dip was a bit fishy. The calamari were soggy and only the garlic prawns were edible. We regret to have order this appetizer dish at almost $30. They are super, super busy here at dinner time. We were told it was about 90 minutes wait for a table. Luckily we were able to grab a table at the bar area. Our waitress was friendly in the beginning, but later it was hard to flag her down because her area was busy. I have lived in Alaska for decades and usually bring any out of state guests to the Glacier Brewhouse. Never again! This evening I ordered a salad and make it clear I couldn't have the nuts on it because I'm allergic to nuts. The salad arrived with nuts. I returned the salad and said I'm sorry I would eat it but I'm deathly allergic to tree nuts so I can't eat these pecans. The waitress returns the salad and this time there were a few nuts hidden in the white salad dressing. By the time I swallowed them it was too late and my tongue and throat began to swell. Ruined the entire dinner and I felt so bad for my out-of-state visitor. We had to ask for the bill right away to get out of the restaurant as soon as possible so that I could get an EpiPen shot. I told the waitress what happened and this is the most shocking part. She said to me if you're deathly allergic, you should not be going out to eat in any restaurants. She did not apologize or express any regret for making a mistake. During the time my friend was visiting, we went to Ginger. spenard roadhouse, jack spraut, eye tooth and others. And at all the restaurants we visited the wait staff was always very attentive to allergies. So I was completely shocked and frankly will never return to this restaurant. My guest from out of town was also completed floored by this attitude. If this is what the management is teaching their wait staff they should be aware that tons of people have allergies to all kinds of foods and by disregarding these people they are going to lose a lot of business. read more

Went Sunday night to try it for the first time, didn't make a great first impression at all. I got the herb crusted halibut and with in my first bit into my meal it was cold and I could see it was raw. My husband got bacon burger and there was barely any meat on the bun. There was about half a burger bun left itself with no meat to enjoy with. The price for all was not worth a first time. My family and I got into Anchorage two weeks ago and dined in as our first restaurant of the trip. Luckily we were able to be seated right away. Ambiance: From the outside we thought the restaurant was small but it was actually big inside. Lots of people from couples to families. It has a brewery smell to it. Looks nice too. Service: Our waiter was nice and answered our questions about the menu. He also gave good suggestions for our request for a fruity beer flight. Food: We started off with the Simply the Best Calamari which was pretty darn good. I wouldn't say it's THE best I've tried, but it's one of them! I was surprised they were cut into strips but that just made the squid even thicker, and with the light breading, it was a perfect ratio. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos. A lot of fish given, has a nice kick to it, yummy coleslaw, and the jalapeño aioli is as good as it gets. Potato chips were also good. For the beer flight that I shared with my mom, we got Raspberry Wheat, Imperial Blonde, Tangerine IPA, Blackberry IPA, and one other fruity one. Reservations recommended! This was my first meal upon landing in Anchorage, and it was a great one! I had the snow crab stuffed cod and I wolfed that thing down! The beurre blanc on top sealed the deal. The best dish, however was ordered by my mom and it was the famous Alaskan King Crab Legs. That evening it was $69.95 but it was worth every penny! The 2 crab legs are stuffed with perfectly sweet crab meat. This dish also came with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Another notable item on the menu were the calamari. We're live close to the Gulf of Mexico so we know our seafood but we've never had calamari so thick! The pieces were perfectly cooked and tender, and the batter was the right consistency. The beer was cold and both light and full bodied depending on your taste they have a wide range beer menu! The bartender was outstanding and attentive despite the drinks she was putting out to the wait staff. She recommended the stuffed halibut with crab meat with spinach and creamy mashed potatoes. It was so outstanding I just finished it for breakfast!! My husband is a burger man and said it was delicious! This restaurant deserves more recognition!!! Glacier brewhouse was one of the restaurants I dined at during my trip to Alaska and it was my favorite place. My family ordered a variety of dishes ranging from shrimp and grits, pasta, fish and chips, halibut and the appetizer tower. Every plate was very flavorful and delicious. We were all very full but still wanted to try their desserts which was also a hit. The restaurant itself is very spacious and cozy. Our first night In Anchorage and we decided to dine here. The restaurant was already packed with diners and the only seating was in the bar area. We got a side by side table for two along booth seating with three other tables. We were seated at the end table where the booth ended along a wall. We started our meal with cocktails and the Alaska Smoked Salmon Dip. As I was taking a photo of the dip, my cell phone slipped and fell through a narrow crack between the booth and the wall. Oh my, what to do! My phone was lodged tightly and there was no way I could get to it. If you depend on your cell phone as I do, you can imagine how I felt. Our waiter assured me to not worry. They would find a way to get my phone out, even if the booth seating had to be removed. Two other staff also came out to help, even one from the kitchen. After many attempts, they ended up having to remove the booth to retrieve my phone. Now that is 5 star plus service. They were beyond helpful and understanding! The smoked Salmon Dip was delicious and we devoured it. I ordered the All in Fish & Chips, which I enjoyed. My partner had the Alaska Alder Grilled Salmon which was excellent. You can reserve from website and I'd recommend not going without reservations as the wait time is crazy since it's thick with tourist any time of year! Service was good, restaurant was loud and busy as expected on a Friday night, and food was delicious! I had come 2 weeks ago with friends so I expected their takeout looking paper menus with loud and jostling open dining room. You could still have a decent conversation without yelling. I would not label this as an intimate date restaurant (South or Kincaid are better for that), but more of a Alaskan comfortable but classy kind of place to meet friends. I feel a boost of testo after eating the wild caught salmon, cooked perfectly medium rare! Don't let the word "brewhouse" distract you. Reservations are a must! When you walk in you are immediately greeted by the hosts like many other restaurants. But once you make your way to the dinning area its a really cool and fun experience to be able to see as much of the kitchen as you can. I'm not sure who thought of having it so exposed since I think most restaurants try their hardest to keep the kitchen out of site and removed from the diners experience but this works. After being seated we were super hungry and immediately stated to plan our meals. The wait for service was a little long but the place was jammed packed. The server was really nice and moved as quickly as she could. Once she came to take our orders we put in some apps, beers and mains. Since it was so busy we decided to place our entire order for drinks, apps and mains all at the same time hoping it would help her out and not make us have to wait so long. It seemed to work because everything came out pretty quickly and we really didn't require much more until we were ready to pay. I tried the IPA sampler, the smoked salmon dip and I had to go for the halibut. I loved them all and would recommend the same order. Everything tasted very fresh and full of flavor. The couple sitting next to us got the seafood sampler tower which looked like heaven being served. Hindsight is I would have definitely ordered one of those. read more

We had a excellent server who was pleasant and attentive. The wine was good but the mixed drink was just so so. My steak vegetables and potatoes were fantastic. However my partner said his dish was supposed to be Spicy but it wasn't. This is one of them nicer down town restaurants, you are going to spend money for sure, so I think it's pretty lame that bread is an appetizer you have to pay for.
