(I've only had the mac n cheese donut, so my rating isss a bit biased in that I haven't tried their other offerings.) In February, I found out I'd be moving to Minneapolis for the summer. Then I saw the video on Facebook of the mac n cheese donut, and boy was I super pumped to go try it. That video of that beautiful mac n cheese donut kept circulating through my Facebook feed, and I couldn't wait to try it. So when I moved to Minneapolis in June, one of the first things I did in my first week there was go to Glam Doll Donuts to try the famous mac n cheese donut. The decor of Glam Doll Donuts is super cool and they have a huge unique variety of items. It cost $8, but I justified it, because it was the famous mac n cheese donut! (First off, on FB it came with chili but mine did not so that was sad, but I still had a donut in front of me and was happy about that.) When I sat down to eat this glorious creation, the first thing I did was split it open, and it was beautiful with cheese strings connecting the separated halves. Then I bit into it. And that was sadness. The pasta was overcooked and mushy. It tasted salty and really oily. I really wasn't getting a ton of cheese flavor in there. Let this be a learning lesson, things on the Internet are not always as they seem :(. Glam Doll Donuts is still a very great place with awesome decor and has a unique variety of donuts, so I'm not hatin on them. I'm just salty about the salty mac n cheese donut that did not live up to all of my hopes and dreams. read more

Its amazing how the power of social media can transform an establishment! I came here after seeing a Facebook video from Buzzfeed called "Bring Me" in regards to their Mac and Cheese donuts and they did not disappoint! However, the donuts? Really bland, over priced just not worth it. I ordered 3 donuts to eat there (share really) , the Chart Topper ( peanut butter and sriracha), Coco Cabana ( coconut icing, caramel drizzle & toasted coconut), and the Daddy Dearest ( surley beer icing & bacon crumb topping). I also took one to-go for breakfast the next day called Kiss the Girl ( passion fruit curd, coconut icing ) I also ordered 2 of the Mac & Cheese Donuts. Okay, the Mac & Cheese Donuts? Literally heaven, it was worth about the 10 minute wait while they were cooked fresh, and they were fantastic!! I would tell everyone to come get these gooey deep fried treats if you are looking to get a Mac and cheese fix! I could have eaten about 3 of them, because I just love Mac & Cheese. It was the perfect combination of cheese, elbow noodles, a bit of a spice and a thick enough fried coating that you can pick it up and eat it like a donut. It came with a side of potato chips that had a good amount of salt and pepper on it, so if I was just reviewing this, it would be 5+ stars. However, the donuts are a complete opposite to my Mac & Cheese experience. The 3 donuts all disappointed, and don't even get me started on the fact that my take home donut was a solid rock the next morning when i asked the women working if these would still be good to eat the next morning (got it around 2pm) i just threw away $4.75! I understand that these are speciality donuts and i guess the "wow" or "delicious" factor is different for everyone, I'd rather stick to my $1 Dunkin Donuts , as least i know it'll taste good and can least if i put it in the fridge! read more

I've been here three times now for the vegan donuts so I have kind of figured out which ones are just "meh" and which ones are truly worth coming out for. I love the Femme Fatale, Cosmopolitan Girl and then another with toasted coconut which I forgot the name of. The latter was recommended by the guy helping us. There is plenty of seating and pretty kid-friendly which I always love. There is a parking lot right next to the building however I'm not sure if you can park in there. They have a back door which goes out into the lot and I saw plenty of people heading out this way so I'm assuming you can park in the lot but I'll be sure to ask next time since I'll definitely be back sooner or later. read more

Five stars for Glam Doll comes with the small note that Glam Doll is five stars for the hipster, creative-flavors type of donuts. Do not come here expecting to get a classic donut hole or a killer plain donut. There's other places for that. But for funky flavors and cool interior to hang out in, then this is a great place. My favorite donut is the Girl Next Door with Pucker Up coming up as a close second. The Girl Next Door filled with cheese, served hot is just cozy and filling. It's hands down the donut that makes this place for me. Their chocolate frosting is less exciting, so a lot of the chocolate heavy donuts never stand up as much to the fruit flavors. Femme Fatale is always ordered in my groups, along with Misfit. It's a place to check out, especially if you're craving donuts late at night because this place has lots of open hours. read more

One of the best donut I have ever eaten. I had the showgirl, which is the maple buttercream & caramelized bacon. Bread was light, cream was sweet but not over powering and bacon cooked to perfection. One of my favorite donut places has went from 5 stars to 3 maximum in my mind. My mom gave me a gift card receipt and the woman and the guy working were quite nice. She took the receipt gift card as payment, asked about any allergies and loaded up a box with a pretty variety. They were all good but 1 ruined the whole experience. Their custard donut (I think maybe Boston creame?) was disgusting. It was fizzy and bitter and you could tell the cream was very expired. Spit it out and threw it away. Did some research, come to find out their custard and vanilla cream is made with expired ingredients regularly. That info was second hand from somebody who used to work there and prep. read more

Glam Doll falsely marketed a product as vegan, even after they were informed, knowing that it was not. I understand at first it was a mistake. But then, ignoring emails, calls... before finally responding saying they'd remove it. However they didn't, it's still in the shop, and marked as vegan. They should have removed it the moment they were first contacted regarding it. Went to this place, while on vacation in MN. Friends recommended this place, saying that there isn't many donut place in MN, but it's really good here, probably the best in MN. The place was super cute and decorated very cutely. It was very unique and cute compared to most places in MN. The donut variety was very interesting and different. The server was very nice and friendly, any questions we had, she tried to answer them with the best of her ability. The prices per donuts were pretty pricey, but the size of the donuts were quite large too. I got half a dozen for $13:50. To me that was kinda expensive, but each donut had something unique about them, so it was alright. I was pretty impressed with the taste of the regular glazed donuts, but wasn't the best I have ever had. The creme filled donuts were very delicious as well. As far as interior design goes, when I first walked in here my reaction was, "Oh, ok.", but then I walked in past the case and saw the whole area around the corner and was like, "Well shit". This place is gorgeous!! I had the pleasure of taking my time and studying the case before my guest arrived. My guest arrived for our business meeting, but the first matter of business was collaborating on which donuts to order. It's a great make-or-break situation that I recommend to all future potential colleagues, really. We decided on the Pucker Up (cruller w lemon cream cheese), Girl Next Door (filled w savory cheese, topped w bacon), and the special Halloween chocolate cake donut. When I saw the Girl Next Door in the case, I read the description and was like, "That's my jam". But I was disappointed with this one. The cheese combo just made it kind of funky. And I am very rarely disappointed in cheese situations. But the Pucker Up and cake donut blew me away. They are both so incredibly flavorful and moist (ugh, "moist", sorry!!). It's been too long since I've had a cruller that good, if ever. I didn't think I'd be super impressed with the straight-forward cake donut, but it was a hit. It had the perfect density and amount of chocolate and was topped with a melt-in-your-mouth buttercream. Like I said, the interior is just gorgeous. So much eye and stomach candy here. Over-hyped. There, I said it. It's hard to write a critical review, because the team at Glam Doll was friendly, their shop is cute, and the tunes played were jamming. They even have a charming patio in back. But, I have to speak my candid opinion: there is nothing memorable about the taste of the donuts at Glam Doll. And at $3 per donut (for filled donuts), I fully expect to be in a blissful state when biting into the donuts. I visited with three friends on a Saturday morning. The place was packed, and the donuts looked amazing. We ordered up a half dozen to split ($13.50,which lowers your per donut cost to $2.25 plus tax). My lovely fiancee and I split the Varga Girl (almond cream, chocolate, and shaved almonds), the Calendar Girl (salted caramel and chocolate), and the Dark Angel (vanilla bean creme and chocolate icing). I'll break down each element of the donuts: 1) Dough - dry. 2) Icing - generously applied, but lacking in sweetness and overall flavor. It seems like chocolate icing is hard to get wrong, but they did it. 3) Filling - meagerly applied, and also lacking in sweetness and overall flavor. Our two friends ordered three other varieties of donuts, and they were unimpressed, as well. The coffee served is Intelligentsia; it's a tasty brew, but at $3 for 12 ounces, it's a steep price point. You're looking at $6 (plus tax) for a coffee and a donut. Yikes. I have frequented some of the Twin Cities' finest in donuts: Sarah Jane's Bakery in Northeast; Mojo Monkey in Saint Paul; YoYo Donuts in Minnetonka; and Cub Foods all over the Metro. Ok, so normally I contact a company/establishment prior to writing a bad review to give them time to correct issues or at least give an excuse; however, I haven't heard back. I went to Glam Doll last Friday on my way home from work just on a whim. I looked at the showcase of donuts and they all looked so good - I could hardly decide which delicious donuts I wanted to bring home. I have had their donuts before but this was the first time I had actually gone to the shop. The store itself lives up to the 50's/60's old school hipster theme - pretty cool. Once I made my selection of an assortment of bacon and non-bacon donuts, the lady at the cash register con-d me into getting a cold press coffee. She also blabbed something (I use blabbed nicely because it was me not comprehending because I was running on no sleep) and she turned the iPad around to have me complete my transaction. With that, the first screen is where I can select a tip and it gives me options of the percentage I wanted to leave or $0 - I feel like that is so forced and that they almost expect a tip. No, I am sorry, all you did was take fried dough out of a display case and put it in a pink box. So that is the service side of things...and now on to the food. The cold press was HORRIBLE! I didn't take a sip of it until I got to my car and almost spit it out! Once I got home I had to doctor it up so I could actually drink it. I almost felt like a was drinking dirt - even though there was a flavor shot in it, I couldn't taste it. Definitely not worth $5.50! The first donut I selected to sample was the espresso crueler. OH MY GOODNESS - I would take a bite and before I finished chewing I tried to take another - it was AMAZING! My second was the chocolate with the caramelized bacon - I have had before and have been pleased with it, but this time, I bit into it and it was completely RAW in the middle. Basically a doughy gummy mixture and not very good. I had actually taken a picture of it and sent it to Glam Doll, and never head anything back. All and all, I feel like they were not expecting to grow as quickly in popularity as they have and are experiencing growing pains. Fathers, lock up your donuts. I can already see myself spending a lot of time here and they will not be safe with me lurking around. Firstly, the space is unexpectedly huge and mid-century cute. The pretty tile on the floor. The mismatched furniture. The photo booth. The little area where you can watch them glaze the donuts. It's just a fun space, and as great for chatting with friends as for getting some work done during the day. Or at night, for that matter. They are open quite late. My first visit was in the evening and I was actually surprised it wasn't overrun with MCAD students at the time, but it may have been spring break or something. ALSO, one of the staff gals told me there's an original cobblestone patio in the back too... is it summer yet? Secondly, the coffee is Intelligentsia. I just ordered a drip cup and it was great. I'll update this when I've tried a real barista-skills-required drink. Thirdly, the donuts. My first visit, I accidentally ordered a fairly pricey cake donut with chocolate and bacon. The accident was that I don't really like cake donuts and thought it was a raised donut (ARGH). The flavor was still great, but admittedly a little dry... not that surprising since it was 8 p.m.. With their late hours, I imagine it'll be hard to keep fresh donuts available into the wee hours, but I hope they'll figure out a system eventually. My second visit was on a busy Saturday afternoon. I ordered a fresh maple bacon long john that completely erased that small speck of disappointment from the previous visit (hence, the five stars). Maple bacon long johns are far from a new-fangled invention, but this was a perfect execution so the price tag didn't bother me one bit. I was going to wait until I'd gone a third time to review this place, but I honestly don't see myself ordering anything else but that long john. Ever. read more

The donut/doughnut trend has finally made its way to Minneapolis and I couldn't be more excited! I'm a self-admitted "carb monster", and donuts are my carbo-poison of choice. I absolutely love the idea of gourmet donuts; so much better than the cupcake phase. Glam Doll has a really great variety of donuts, tons of fun flavors and unique toppings! Plus, they serve Intelligentsia Coffee, yum! My boyfriend and I carefully selected half a dozen donuts to-go and after much indecision finally decided on the following: -Showgirl: Raised donut with maple icing and bacon -Calendar Girl: Raised donut with salted caramel and chocolate -Femme Fatale: Fresh raspberry curd filled donut with vanilla icing -Varga Girl: Almond cream filled donut with chocolate and shaved almonds -Pucker Up: Lemon cream cheese cruller donut -Peek-a--boo: Tres leches cake donut They were all delicious, I'm not even lying. However, the Calendar Girl kind of stole my heart; delicious chocolate with a generous glob of salted caramel goodness in the middle. And, these donuts are large, definitely above average size. The Pucker Up was also freaking yummy, I'm a sucker for lemon. But seriously, all of them were good, we gobbled them up in one afternoon. The actual location is really cute as well. There is a pretty good amount of seating and the decor is cute and inviting. As I previously mentioned, Intelligentsia Coffee north of Chicago really excites me and the service was really good: quick, attentive, friendly. I really only have one small problem/suggestion for Glam Doll...As Dave G. already mentioned, their to-go boxes aren't the best...They wrapped each of our donuts in a tissue and stacked them on top of each other in the box. When peeling off the tissue, I also peeled off half of my chocolate (Okay fine, I may have licked it off the tissue, I won't lie) and that made me a little sad. I think they really need to consider larger boxes or a little sectional insert to keep the donuts separate, which is the point of the tissue, without the mess/loss of toppings. Also, the tres leches donut needs a little container of its own for to-go. It comes dripping in milk so is rather messy when just placed in a tissue. Four words: Mac and cheese donut. OMG. This is has elevated the meaning of CHEESY. I am definitely a savory gal, so I was all about this donut. They pair it a side of chili and potato chips and they called it a Belly bomb and it definitely was bomb.com! I took one bite and I was hooked-- the exterior was perfectly battered and the interior consistency was just like a bite of mac and cheese. You have to try it for yourself! The donuts will bring you in, but the decor will keep you there to enjoy. They have plenty of seating areas for you to enjoy your donut and stay for awhile to read your book or work. I have tried Glam Doll twice now in the hopes that my first experience was a fluke. First visit, I checked out the menu before going so I wouldn't stand at the counter asking what everything was. Unfortunately, a few of the items I had in mind weren't available. Okay, fair enough. The line is out the door half the time so I can expect that. I shared a Femme Fatale and Flirty Frenchie and was disappointed with both. The raspberry filling of the Femme Fatale ended up in my lap. I don't hold that against anyone but upon additional exploration I realized the filling in my lap was the best part. The remainder of the donut was dry and bland. The combination of espresso and sour cream on the Flirty Frenchie ended up tasting a bit off. My second trip back was pretty much the same with the added bonus of less than friendly service. The decor is spot on and the donuts are picture worthy but the overall taste is just not worth the price. read more

I grew up going to a bakery in small town run by a few sassy, middle-aged bakers wearing hairnets. The bakery itself had brown laminated floor tiles, an analog Busch Light clock, and mismatched chairs that looked like they were swiped from church basements. And these ladies made really really good donuts. So, I loved reading the hype about Glam Dolls. I bought into the retro-chic aesthetic before I even walked into the place. But I finally did walk into the place and was underwhelmed. I appreciate how big it is for people who want to chill into the late hours. But let's face it--the donuts are how they pay the rent. We ordered some raised, filled, and cake to share for dessert a recent evening. One thing I was surprised by: the donuts were so big! I might want an apple fritter now and again, but I don't want an apple frisbee. Food begins to look unappetizing when it's so big--especially when you consider that huge mass of dough has been fried and covered with sugar. Now it was in the evening, but if you are a donut shop selling your wares in the later hours, you need to have high quality product--not just leftovers from the morning. Sadly, I think that was the case. The apple fritter was super dry. For the others, the filling/dough ratio was mismatched. The chocolate cake donut was OK. I liked the frosting. But the texture was not as fluffy as other designer bakeries in the area--even when I've had their day old stuff. Sex and sugar sells; Glam Dolls have the marketing right. I was very excited to try Glam Doll, so when I found myself across the street, I knew I would be stopping in for one (or two...). Unfortunately, I was very underwhelmed. Maybe it was because I had just been to Voodoo Doughnut in Portland a couple weeks ago, but the donut flavors were only subpar in my opinion. It seemed like basically every doughnut had bacon on it, so my boyfriend and I decided to order one of the surly bacon doughnuts, one chocolate bacon doughnut, and one chocolate raised doughnut. Neither of us liked the bacon on the doughnuts (maybe just our preference), so we immediately took that off and threw it away. Also, all 3 doughnuts were dry, and I mean really dry. This could possibly be attributed to the fact that we went in at 6pm on a Tuesday night, but I was under the impression that a doughnut shop with late hours would be baking all day. This definitely did not seem to be the case. The pour over coffee was disappointing. The coffee a lengthy endeavor to produce, however, the final result lacked the complexity of gas station coffee. Furthermore, the donut I ordered had the texture of being aged to perfection in a kiln which by the way was easily broken down with some determination and glam station coffee. This place is really cute. I'm not sure I would have noticed it had we not cut through on our way to the Black Forest Inn. We probably would have walked around the other way. All through out dinner, I had an urgency to get back to the donut place thinking they were going to close before I could get back. Now I see they are open late. My nieces bolted out after dinner to go get a jump on the donuts. Nice variety. A little pricey, but worth it for a taste. I ordered the Femme Fatale. Probably fatal to my blood sugar, but I couldn't leave empty handed. It was pretty good. The filling was really subtle and not too over-powering. My nieces walked out with a box of donuts. I didn't get to see what they had, but I'm sure they got good ones. The interior is cute. I half expected to see a scooter sitting inside. Staff is nice and they get people in and out when there's a line of people drooling over the eye candy in the case. I would stop back to try some other flavors. read more

I make it a point to stop at Glam Doll Donuts at least once, every trip to the Twin Cities. Their selection is phenomenal and the shop is cute as hell. After much deliberation, I still cannot choose a favorite. I'm partial to cream cheese frosting, so the Outlaw, Flirty Frenchie and Pucker Up are all right up at the top of the list, but the Peek-A-Boo and both types of the Darling are, well, darling! I fully believe you can gauge the greatness of a donut shop on their glazed donuts. I've been all over this country, and have tried more than my share of donuts, and can I can say with the utmost confidence that Glam Doll's is one of the best in the game. What more can I say?
