Through a series of events that required short prep time under a lot of pressure, both Judy and Steve rose to the occasion and exceeded all expectations. I managed to do a couple of estimates before hand and GoMini's combined with Glen Ellyn came in ahead over the other's who seemed not as motivated for the business or resting on their laurels. In the end, we did a local move with the surplus going to a Go Mini's container. The team that showed up on move day led by Jason was Brian , Don and Joe who did an extraordinary job. They were hard working, honest, trustworthy ultimately they packed that 16 foot pod solid eliminating the need for a second container. They made this effort as painless as could be under the month from hell. I'm not sure who the driver of this truck was today, but witnessing this was honestly disturbing. The driver appeared to be texting while driving and ended up almost crashing into two separate vehicles not once, but twice. The driver whom he almost hit was constantly beeping, warning the truck driver that they were switching lanes too quickly and without using a turn signal, yet they continued driving carelessly. I even pulled over to make sure the driver of the first vehicle was okay because the whole situation was so concerning. It's such a shame how careless some people can be behind the wheel. Driving distracted puts everyone around you in danger. Do better! read more

I regret trusting Glen Ellyn Storage with my cross-country move. Many assurances were made and none of them were kept. My belongings did not leave Chicago for 6 days after they were moved out of my house. They were transferred multiple times from house to truck, truck to crates, crates to another truck. As the result, 5 pieces of furniture were damaged. They missed the promised arrival window by 5 days. Communication was lacking and it was clear that my move was a very low priority. I thought that paying a slightly higher fee than the other bids I received was a guarantee of good quality, which was not at all the case. Overall it was a stressful and unsatisfactory experience. read more

This is the first time I've left a negative Yelp review, but feel it is important to let others know about this business. They moved a new refrigerator into our home. They were contracted by GE to do so. They damaged our front doorway and took a large chunk out of our paved sidewalk. They deny causing the damage despite that we have sent photos showing the damage. I had a pretty bad experience with Mayflower and would not recommend them. Our stuff was very delayed and we felt the communication could have gone a lot better. I understand that delays happen and everyone is short staffed right now, but we confirmed our move several months in advance only to learn they had no drivers available the day after our move. This is especially the case because the move was very expensive given it took them so long and we went outside of our agreed upon delivery range. For a logistics company, we felt they poorly planned the logistics and waited until the last minute. I want to make it clear that the individuals who came to get our stuff into and out of the truck were amazing and our only problems were with the customer service and planning of the move itself. We tried to get money back on our move given delays/damaged items, but the customer service experience was really bad. We kept being sent to different people (I think I talked to over 10 people at Mayflower altogether for one simple request) and they refuse to listen to issues with their services. At one point, a customer service representative just disconnected our conversation when I was trying to figure out where our stuff was located. At another, a representative told us we could not get more money back because they had to bribe their own office just to not delay us another week. I expected a lot more professionalism from the Mayflower name. I certainly would not recommend Mayflower to anyone with pets, as the delays made it really difficult since we were sharing air mattresses in an empty apartment with our dog. read more

I'll make it short. Company quoted $Xxxxx to move from one house to another. Actual cost came in 25% higher than quote. Asked staff for a breakdown and they told me it was correct at $2k more than quote. Find out the accounting dept accidentally doubled a charge of $1200 and added 2 bulk charges that they knew of at time of quote. What's worse is the subcontracted movers lied about what they actually packed which was $2500 more than quoted labor cost. Owner refuses to call back or do anything about it. I'd love a call back from someone to discuss the fraud that took place and was not compensated for. Theft...actual theft at its best. Owner Scott is a joke and unprofessional. A friend of mine stored 27 boxes of porcelain cups in my basement and it was time to ship them back to her. My friend said panned to have the cups picked up in Chicago to be delivered to New York before shipping them to Zurich. Through her shipping company, she arranged to have Glen Ellyn moving company come out to my home and pick up the cups to be delivered to New York. The day before the arrival of the cups, I was contacted by Chris who informed me that they would pick up the cups between 8- 9 am. I informed Chris that I had to be at work at 8:30, 9:00 am latest and that I would really appreciate if they could come earlier. Chris said she would double check if it's possible for them to come earlier and that she would call me back. Sure enough, Chris called me back and stated that the movers will arrive between 7:30- 8:00 am. Fast forward to the next day. The movers called me at 7:45 am and they informed me that traffic was bad and that they would arrive in fifteen minutes. I informed them that I had a train to catch at 8:22 am and that they needed to be there at 8:00 am for me to make the train. They didn't arrive at 8:00 and I missed my train to work. When they still didn't arrive at 8:16 am, I called them to see where they were and they said, "we're sorry for the inconvenience, we're parked out in your alley". Although I was furious that I missed my train, the movers made it up to me with their fast moving skills. They picked up all the cups from my basement within 7 minutes. It took them longer to load the boxes into the truck since they had specific instructions for how to load them. In fact, when I told my friend that they were stacking five boxes at a time, my friend called Chris and complained that they were stacking too many and Chris called them right away and told them to only stack four boxes at the most. I had to leave to catch an uber for my train so I hurried to sign the paperwork and I left. Regardless of the frustration I experienced with the delayed pickup time, everything else was quick, painful and easy so I'm giving them 4 stars. Rude uncompromising staff I was put of town and the refused to wait 2 days so I could receive my dishwasher. They sent it back i had to reorder the dishwasher. Once the new order came in the delivery /Installers lied and told me my dishwasher had to have a different setup and didn't Install my the washer. My review has been way too slow relative to our great experience moving cross country with Glen Ellyn last July. We moved from Mt. Prospect, IL to Rancho Mirage, CA. Everything went extremely well. It started with a great quote by Michele Finkelstein to Sue North's shepherding of the move to the crew in California. I cannot recommend Glen Ellyn more completely. The packing and move day went as planned. They employ a great crew. Our furniture arrived in California on the day that was promised. Everything arrived in good condition. This company is a joke! Don't wear masks and refused to wear booties! Ordered furniture and apparently they contract Glen Ellen Moving and storage as their local delivery company. 2 of the 3 different occasions that Glen Ellen delivered furniture, we incurred damage. First time they refused booties and tracked in mud onto our rugs and second time they left a gouge in our new hardwood floors. I pointed out the damage done to the floor to the delivery men and the older gentleman actually threatened to take the furniture back if I were to file a claim. After 3 weeks, finally received a property damage claim via email. Donna Hargreaves, with Glen Ellen claims, disregarded my pictures of the damage and without prior discussion sent a $50 check even though the claim amount was $680. Refused the amount. Michael Fenwick contacted after I had expressed my frustration to Donna, indicating that "if we need to move with more drastic measures, we will take that into consideration." I purchased furniture from a high end store and this company delivered the furniture to my house. Worst experience I've ever had. The crew got into an argument b/c they couldn't figure out how to get the furniture in the basement. They started cursing at each other and in the process, damaged my floor and wall. I filed a claim with them but no one would get back to me. It's literally been 3 months and they have not returned call/emails until I was extremely persistent and they finally responded. On top of that, they only sent me reimbursement for the wall not the damage to the floor. They said they sent me a check but it's been 3 weeks and they are not responding again. Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage is most shady, unprofessional, and unethical company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I recommend that if you are purchasing appliances from the Carol Stream Home Depot, do NOT pay for them to do the installations because they will send in this sorry excuse for a company. I purchased kitchen appliances from the Home Depot in Carol Stream at the beginning of June. I paid an ample amount of money for the appliance installations. They installed a stove, a fridge, and a dishwasher. The install team claimed to have checked that everything was running well and left. When I tried to run a load on the dishwasher, it kept giving me an error halfway through the cycle. I called Home Depot to have the install team inspect if there was an issue. It turns out, the first install team ran the water output line to a capped output. The second install team switched things around and then left. I then ran the load again. All of the sudden, a mass amount of water was gushing from the dishwasher onto my band new installed floors and through the air vents, down to the basement. My entire kitchen and most of my basement was flooded. I had to shut off the water to my home to get the flooding to stop. I spent 2 full days cleaning and sanitizing the mess. I called Home Depot to advise them of the issue and they referred me over to Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage. I had 2 wait 2 weeks to get anyone out to see what the problem was. It turned out that the original install team installed a water line that had a huge gash on it. The third install team then refused to install a new water line and left. I spent the next 3 months trying to file a claim with Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage and they kept giving me the run around. In September, I found that they never sent in my claim back in June and were barely sending it 3 months later. An insurance adjuster went to my home to do the inspection at the end of September. I then spent the next 3 months following up with the insurance company to no response, again. Only to find out now 6 months later that the claim was denied because they saw no wrongdoing from Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage. Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage were the ones that installed a faulty water line, created water damage on my home, made me chase them around for 6 months and yet they are not at fault?! What a bunch of crooks! Even though I had ALL the paperwork the movers accidentally left behind and called for days to get back. I am giving this company two stars based purely on the fact that the guys who delivered my stuff (a heavy piece of equipment) were nice, thorough and communicative. However, everything on the front end about this company - scheduling and their customer service - is such an enormous headache that if you can avoid it, steer clear. First, this company absolutely refuses to do weekend deliveries, which is just stupid. What this invariably means, is that you will take off time from work for a FOUR HOUR delivery "window" - the time of which you won't know until late the night before. Unfortunately, I did not have a choice in using Glen Ellyn. To be totally honest, their business practices and customer service are pretty reprehensible. I called to set up a delivery time about 10 days in advance, and clearly directed them that I would need the "window" to be in the morning (because like most people, my husband and I work 9-5). Glen Ellyn nicely told me they'd call the day before to confirm my "four hour window" and that they started delivering around 7 am (which turned out not to be true at all). The day before my delivery - at 5:45 pm - Glen Ellyn calls and tells me that my 4 hour window is 10 am - 2 pm! When I said that was unacceptable, I was told, "Too bad, I can't do anything about it so call the company you ordered the merchandise from." Of course by this time, EVERYTHING is closed. It's after 5 and I can't get a hold of the merchant or the middleman broker. Then, I tried calling Glen Ellyn back trying to reach the rep who called me, and got an answering machine saying that the company closes at FIVE. I am pretty sure that Glen Ellyn rep was just sitting there at her desk, filing her nails and listening to my frantic message. Early in the morning, I called both the merchant and the broker for help and to request that my delivery gets there before noon. After repeated phone calls (Glen Ellyn wouldn't pick up and then put them on hold for a long time), they finally told me Glen Ellyn would probably deliver the merchandise before noon - but NOT because of my request. It was just dumb luck that my machine was their scheduled third delivery of the day. To their credit, the actual delivery guys (I don't think it was their fault, any of this) were nice and diligent and called us twice before they delivered, and dropped off the machine in very good shape - and before noon. Beware of their business practices though. I was told by the merchant that "most storage companies have the same policies" but that's absolutely no excuse. read more

According to the website they have left me FOUR voicemails yet I have received not even one. I called to find out the problem and she said that the 'computer just says that' but there is no voicemail. Really? What does that even mean?? Second, they do not deliver items when they say they will. Set up my whole schedule around a delivery only to be told one day before that 'oops! can't be delivered at that time!" Overall very positive experience. My estimator Dan and move coordinator Sue were very responsive to my calls and emails. They answered the multiple questions I had and regularly communicated with me. Move was on time, efficient, drama free, and they took care of my stuff on both move in and move out. It was a honestly a little stressful not knowing in advance exactly what day the truck would arrive but Sue did her best to keep me in the loop and made me feel like I was in good hands. Sue even called a few times after the move to check in on how things went and if we needed anything. We had a couple of things that were damaged (a serving bowl, a lamp, small table got scuffed) but it was all minor and given the large size of our move and how smooth everything went, that didn't bother me. I would very much recommend them and would not hesitate to use them again if I were moving. Great job! read more

We hired Glen Ellyn Moving & Storage to move our entire household to our new home 25 miles away. No one likes to move. It is a hassle. Our experience with Glen Ellyn was wonderful. We had checked out three different companies. Some were rated higher than others. Glen Ellyn's price was in the middle. We moved the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The truck showed up on time. There were 4 men, Jose', Jon, Kris, and Jacob. Great crew. They were all true professionals. They were even able to get our mission style furniture out of our basement family room with no damage to the walls and ceiling (unlike us when we moved it down there). We were packed up and on the road within a few hours. We also had mowers, a huge grill, and items in our storage shed to be moved. The whole job with travel took about 5 or 6 hours. The guys were great and very personable. While I don't ever plan on moving again, if I had to, I'd use this company again in a heartbeat. read more

The young man who delivered had a difficult time putting in the no tip into the back of the stove. several times he had to push the stove in and out, and after I signed the paper work I stopped him as he was going out the door and said I have a scratch on the new floor installed a week earlier. When using portable containers, the role of a moving company should be straightforward: drop off containers when requested, pick up containers when requested--there shouldn't be too much more involved. However, the process must be really really complicated or Glen Ellyn Storage is really really bad at executing. On top of poor execution, having to deal with their representative is worse than nails on a chalkboard. This insufferable person has such an attitude that it makes it seem that delivering containers is a personal inconvenience to her. I purchased a refrigerator from Home Depot and Glen Ellyn Storage delivered and installed the refrigerator. My house had an existing water line for the refrigerator and the company attached the line to the back of the refrigerator. Two days after the poor installation to the back of the fridge, there was a spraying stream of water flooded the floor and the basement below. Fortunately we were home when this happened or the damage could have been much worse. I called Glen Ellyn Storage to let them know what happened and they did not take any fault for what happened. The leak occurred at the connection between the hose and fridge which their tech attached. They claimed they did not do the install of the water line (which was true), but they did install the hose to the fridge where the leak occurred. I asked them to send someone over to attach the hose correctly and they refused. After this occurred and I got nowhere with the company, I took off the connector and tightened it myself (very simple). If this company hires people unable to do this type of work and worse and will not take any fault for their error, I would be very cautious to use them to move my personal belongings. In my lengthy conversations with customer service at Home Depot after this incident. One of the representatives told me that they have had several complaints with this company and would like to have them replaced. read more

Glen Ellyn is the company used by HOME DEPOT to install appliances that have been purchased. In our case, they installed the refrigerator, hooked up the water line and it has subsequently leaked and we now have thousands of dollars of damage to our new wood floors. Of course, when you contact HOME DEPOT, it is not their problem, and you are shuffled for WEEKS until Glen Ellyn finally contacts you. We were told that we would have a claims rep out immediately. Well, they did that...and he was tattooed, wearing jeans, wreaked of cigarettes and stated, "Hey man, I'm here to look at some damage from a water leak." He stated that, "this is my first time, and I have no idea what I am looking for." He was here for a total of three minutes, took a few pictures and left. When asked if we could put a new water line in, he stated..."How do I know, they just called me and told me to take a few pictures." In attempting to contact Glen Ellyn, they are not responding. So, lesson...IF you purchase anything from HOME DEPOT, do NOT allow GLEN ELLYN NEAR YOUR HOUSE!!! They will NEVER resolve a claim, they will let it side, and you will end up paying attorney's large sums of money to get the job done. All, while NOT being able to use your refrigerator Ice Maker. So, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE HIRE GLEN ELLYN to do anything. I wouldn't hire them to move a dog house!! We only regret that we have to give them a SINGLE star rating. Used your service to move three gigantic specialty mechanics tool boxes and 5 tool carts from dealership in Sycamore to dealership in downtown Chicago. Total weight probably 20,000 to 25,000 pounds. Equipment was winched and loaded on large flat bed then entirely wrapped in protective plastic wrap. Safely arrived and unloaded in extremely tight quarters without a single scratch or dent. Special thanks to Kim who was very patient while helping us coordinate this move. Moving team was knowledgeable and took extreme care and lots of skill to get this job done. Very impressed with the professionalism from start to finish. Will absolutely refer Glen Ellyn Movers to anyone in the automotive industry and will be using them again in a few months. This morning I was driving home from the gas station when I heard an awful noise coming out from beneath my car. As I drove into my subdivision I slowed down because your truck had just unloaded some appliances. I waved the drivers through so they could return to their truck however, they told me to stop and walked over and told me a cone was stuck underneath my bumper. He then proceeded to remove it for me. BRING YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!! Can I give zero stars? Absolutely incompetent employees and manager. I had cabinets delivered a coupled weeks ago. 2 were dropped by their employees and needed to be remade by the manufacturer. They left me a message with a scheduled delivery date for the replacement cabinets. I called back to confirm. I took that entire day off work because they cant give you any idea of when the delivery may happen. The best they can do is call the day of delivery to give a 4 hour time window (great customer service!). No one shows up and when I call they say that they don't even have my delivery scheduled and my materials are not even in their warehouse yet... Offered no help to schedule the delivery during a time that I can be home without taking off work again. They never even attempted to apologize for the confusion. Instead they told me I am wrong (still have the voicemails on my phone). Asked to speak with manager - she says its not her fault and there is nothing she can do. Ask to speak to her manager - she forwards me to someone who is out of the office all week. I call back 4 times within the next 5 minutes and no one answers or returns my calls that day. I did a move with Glen Ellyn Storage/Mayflower from Chicago to Maryland. They had a sales person come to the apartment and go through all my stuff and then provided a quote base on their professional expertise. Guess what, they under quoted me and had to charge lot more than I signed up for. Even with the initial quote they were one of the most expansive companies. I was welling to pay the premium for a full service move with a reputable company (Mayflower) but I guess that is not the case. They under quoted me ever after an in person estimate. They recommended getting containers instead of just weight which was also more expensive. Instead of using 2 containers which was the quote I had to add one more containers on the day of the move. I was given the option of paying for the an extra container or leave the stuff that didn't fit behind. What kind of choice is that? I complained couple days later and was told to wait until the move is complete to see if an resolution can be found. Now that it's been over a month they are simply telling me there is nothing they can do and that I signed the new contract on the day of the move. Finally, I have to time to write a review. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY FOR A MOVE. We moved from Chicago to Austin on 6/30/14 and the furniture was 16 days late and did not arrive until 7/15/14. Because of this company, we couldn't move into our house and had to live a hotel for an extended amount of time. To this day, I keep finding items that are missing including an expensive Italian gold bracelet and I have no recourse. Pieces to my daughter's bed never made it so I had to buy her a new bed. AND, there was a LOT of damage to a LOT of our items. I wish all of our property made it to Austin, but it did not and it's still very upsetting to this day. Each time we called for follow-up, all we received were excuses, excuses, excuses. The movers and the company could care less about our property and doing a good job. Mayflower subcontracts its movers and drivers and that's why there is no commitment to excellence. They are too greedy and cheap to hire and take care of full-time employees. My doorframe was gauged in multiple places. It took weeks for them to get back to me and I had to follow up on numerous occasions with them before receiving a claim denial. Purchased a washer and dryer from Home Depot. This is the poor excuse of a company they outsource to install the appliances. Long story short, they damaged my laundry door, denied it, and now I'm stuck having to find someone to fix the damage. Michael from the claims department was extremely difficult to get a hold of. I hired this company to move me from Chicago to Arizona. After they unloaded my possessions into a storage unit ,I realized a day later ,I was missing a wardrobe box full of my designer suits,shirts,dress pants, leather coats,sports jersey's. They claimed to have found the box with several other boxes belonging to me at another customers house. When they arrived with my boxes, 3 out of the 5 were mine, but no wardrobe box, with several thousands of dollars of clothes. They said to file a claim. I was denied that claim within 48 hrs .
