I hired this company to move me from Chicago to Arizona. After they unloaded my possessions into a storage unit ,I realized a day later ,I was missing a wardrobe box full of my designer suits,shirts,dress pants, leather coats,sports jersey's. They claimed to have found the box with several other boxes belonging to me at another customers house. When they arrived with my boxes, 3 out of the 5 were mine, but no wardrobe box, with several thousands of dollars of clothes. They said to file a claim. I was denied that claim within 48 hrs . DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! THEY WILL STEAL YOUR BELONGINGS...THEN DENY YOU ANY COMPENSATION!! read more

Terrible service! You couldn't pay me to use them. The company is rude and they don't go by the times they tell you they are going to come. The workers seem to be nice. I had three large men come to remove and deliver a fridge. Can you tell me why 3 men need to do this? I felt very uncomfortable and would not recommend this company at all. read more

I was referred to Glen Ellyn Storage and could not have been happier. These people stayed in contact communication with me from our first conversation, setting initial appointments to size my moving needs, and working with me to schedule pick ups and delivery. The staff were very professional and diligent in following up with me on any updates with regard to my order. I was especially impressed when I had to change my delivery date due to some travel delays I incurred, and they worked with me as if it was no hassle. We hired Glen Ellyn Mayflower to move us from Chicago to San Francisco. Stephen Price came out and did an inventory for the apartment. He sent over a proposal which we accepted. Upon packing and moving, there was not enough room for all of the bed. After the movers left, I contacted Glen Ellyn to report items not being loaded and I was told "if it doesn't fit, it doesn't ship". What kind of schlock outfit runs a moving business with that motto? In addition, once the load was to be delivered to our apartment, our contact in Chicago was MIA, wouldn't return calls, texts, emails etc. Several items were left off the transport and Glen Ellyn has YET to return my calls or emails. In the way of background, I purchased a home midyear 2015 that required some extensive remodeling and I have online reviews extensively to source multiple contractors since the purchase and have nothing but high praise for the quality of work; integrity; and value from each - until my most recent experience with Glen Ellyn Storage. While I purchased the home back in June, I didn't relocate until December 7th & 8th with Glen Ellyn. On December 3rd, 4th and 5th I reached out to the Sales Representative I had been dealing with and two ladies in the office to advise that that I may need some last minute support for packing. All three - including the Sales Representative who stopped out to the house to see the extent of the packing I might require - signaled that the request was small in the scheme of things given the number of movers that would be on the truck the day of the move. They did however indicate that because it was an hourly contract, there might be some additional hours to be billed - which I understood. When the movers arrived at the house on December 7th and saw that there were still items to be packed, they expressed concern. I advised him of my three previous conversations and asked if this was not communicated to him and his response: "We don't pack for local moves. The Salesman should know that we don't pack for locals but they say anything to get the business." In order to put into perspective, this represented my 13th move over the course of my career and in that time, I only had two pieces of furniture damaged and the respective moving companies immediately took ownership: no claims; no approvals needed to repair the damaged items; no third party adjusters involved; and both damaged items were resolved in a few days. Suffice to say that this was a very different and disappointing experience. The Damaged Item List * The Foyer Wall which "had" a unique paint and plaster finish had a significant area that was damaged. When this was brought to the attention of the lead mover during the final inspection, he acknowledged that his team had damaged the wall BUT went on to add that if the plaster had been applied correctly, he wouldn't have to deal with the current damage and proceeded to advise me how the plaster should have been applied. * The Kenwood Turntable was literally destroyed: the turntable was disengaged; the arm broken; and diamond needle lost. It was an item that the movers packed and they literally "stuffed" it in a box between other stereo components without any cushion. They offered $45 for an item that to date I have not been able to replace at any price. * The refrigerator door was locked shut during the move and unavailable to use until a 3rd party came to the house to work on the door which I am now able to open - albeit, with a click and a hitch. The unit still has a "click & hitch" and we are no longer able to store goods in the freezer. * Multiple lamp shades were stacked in a box and torn beyond repair. One shade was part of a matched set and I have been advised by Glen Ellyn as follows: "As for your claim to the 5th lamp shade, it is not considered a claimable item. Coverage does not extend to pairs and sets and cannot be compensated as such." NOTE: I don't want two new lamps, I simply want a shade to match the existing "twin". * I had a number of large pieces of exercise equipment that needed to be moved as a part of the relocation and Glen Ellyn advised that they work with a 3rd party to disassemble and reassemble the equipment. Glen Ellyn secured a bid of $500 and the final invoices came in at $665 ($305 + $360). $165 over the bid provided. * My business desk - originally not leveled but subsequently resolved. One item. * My business file cabinet originally glided to a close. No more. I have had to put cardboard underneath a $500 unit in order to try and close - and keep closed - and in doing so, I need to push closed with two hands. Did I receive a check as compensation? Yes, on January 15th and as I write this review, the check is currently sitting in my desk as I know that the second I cash the check, Glen Ellyn will declare victory suggesting that cashing the check means that I accept their terms and I absolutely to not. In the interest of fairness and only presenting the facts, I have referenced email exchanges; dates from any phone calls; and my FILE NOTES prior to writing this review. The Glen Ellyn view of their performance: "Your claim is being handled in a professional and expedited manner." As a customer, I have a much different perspective. Bottom line: poor physical relocation with much damage; horrible experience with their 3rd party claims group; and communication was weak at best. read more

We hired Glen Ellyn (and Mayflower) to move our house from Oak Brook IL to Walnut Creek CA during September 2013 and they were awesome! Extremely professional on the phone and by email. Not a single item was damaged while packing, transporting or unloading including some old wooden furniture pieces. Stephen Price (Mayflower account manager) was great and Bonnie Blake (Glen Elllyn logistics) was wonderful. We gave them barely two weeks notice for the move and that too just after Labor Day weekend and they accommodated us. Stephen came out to the house and reviewed all our belongings. The two movers from Mayflower were very courteous -our little kids even liked talking to them. Our stuff arrived in CA on time, too. I'm really surprised by the negative reviews as they were worth every penny. Would use them again in a heartbeat. read more

This was absolutely terrible! Not only did it take 6 men to pack our belongings in one day, they took another day to move them - which isn't the bad part, but had they not given us a "discount," the price would have been $1K OVER the estimate. And people still can't believe when I tell them it still cost us almost $4K to move 30 miles. On top of that, there were nicks, dings, scrapes, broken pieces, lost pieces, in about half of our furniture! While the movers themselves were nice enough, it wasn't until after they had taken their tip and left that we saw how they had tried to hide all the damage! Many of our picture frames were damaged, there were shelves missing hardware, and I won't even go into the long list of furniture that was damaged, scraped, and obviously mistreated - but literally every room in our house has furniture that they've somehow damaged in some fashion, some of which cannot be easily fixed. Interestingly, only the original representative apologized to us - not the customer care individual, nor the owner. The former merely told us to save all our boxes while they completed an "investigation!" Which of course, was ridiculous, since the furniture wasn't put in boxes! Not only that, but when I saw how they were loading the truck, I asked the driver why some of the more fragile boxes were on the bottom, and his response was to first stare at me, then say that I had insurance. RIDICULOUS. I should have stopped the move right then, but of course, the truck was half full by that point and we had to leave the condo building. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! AGAIN, I REITERATE, do NOT USE THEM!!! You will be sorry, unless of course, you like your furniture to be "distressed." read more

When they delivered a piece of furniture to us they scratched our hardwood floor. Because we did not notice it when we signed the delivery paper, but noticed it a few hours later and called the next day, they wouldn't cover it and claimed that we damaged it ourselves. I definitely would not recommend this company to anyone! read more

I have done MANY moves in my life and this company was without a doubt the worst I have ever felt with. My biggest complaint and issue is with their claims department who denied fixing a broken mirror which occurred during the move. Over the course of attempting to get it repaired, the claims rep, Sean Webber, not only stalled the process (making it drag on for a total of 8 months on a fix that was NOT complicated!), but finally ended up accusing me of lying about details surrounding the event. Unreal and horrid customer service. They eventually denied the claim last week all together. I'm done fighting it and know my only recourse is letting another know to stay clear.... read more

I set up an appointment for a visual survey and the surveyor never showed up. When I called to find out what happened, Diane, the representative who scheduled the appointment claimed that I called the day before to cancel the appointment. I told her that was not the case and that there may have been a mixup. Rather than moving forward, she was rude and persisted that I had cancelled the appointment. We are currently having such a horrible time dealing with this moving company. My husband & I have moved several times (he's a military veteran), and never once has a moving company given us an experience like this. Setting up the move, packing up our belongings, and getting them onto a truck and into storage was no problem. Getting our things delivered out-of-state from Illinois to Michigan has been a nightmare. We were informed the Friday before the date we scheduled for delivery that the date would change to 5 days later. Of course that means that over the entire weekend we had no response from the agent we'd been working with. Today she basically told my husband that there's nothing they can do. The biggest disappointment through this whole thing is we'd planned our daughter's birthday party for the weekend after we were scheduled to have our stuff delivered, and now we have to cancel. What a horrible experience. *updated after response: the emails mentioned by Diane below were non-explanatory regarding the "window" except to inform us after the fact (and after we've paid) that it exists. Any. misunderstanding of how out-of-state transit works is the result of lack of communication by the company. My husband and I have had 5 out-of-state moves, 4 handled by moving companies, and this has been the only one with an issue. Including written explanation of the window seems like something common sense would tell this company to include from the get-go. Your response feels like a non-apology in my book. read more

They delivered a mattress to us form a US Mattress order.. first they had trouble getting the mattress up our stairs. The two guys seemed in a hurry to leave. Sadly, I did not notice the damage until they were out the door and I had signed off that all was ok...huge mistake. They chipped the ceiling paint & broke a stair banister pole in half. I promptly tried to reach them through their website (no response) then called to let them them know what I discovered and they promply sent me a letter & a copy of my "sign off" saying they denied any liabity. I need to tell you what a terrible and unacceptable job your moving team did with my move on August 29. I am so angry about the damage done to my furniture through carelessness, negligence, sloppy work and amateurish packing. I have moved eleven times in my adult life and have never experienced so much damage to my belongings. The men who unloaded the truck in Colorado even remarked that the packers/loaders must have been amateurs. The only things that were not damaged were the boxes I packed myself. It is hard to describe how bad it was. The men were careless with my furniture while wrapping it, as well as careless with the walls and floors within the condo itself. They applied packing tape directly to my leather furniture (3 pieces) and left sticky streaks that a professional leather expert told us may not be repairable. Part of the problem is that the amount of time it would take to dismantle and wrap the furniture and load the truck was grossly underestimated. It took 3 men 8 hours, and it should have taken even longer but they began just throwing things toward the end, resulting in more damage. I kept telling them that I wanted it done right and didn't care how long it took, but they were in some sort of race to get it done. I offered to buy them lunch, which the driver refused to let me do. As a result, the men were tired and weak and frustrated by the end of the day, creating another recipe for disaster. At some point, they stopped wrapping things at all, in spite of the fact that we had 17 excess furniture wraps at the end of the day. However, a lot of the damage was done in the beginning of the day, so I believe these men are either careless, sloppy, negligent, or not experienced in proper packing techniques. read more

We moved from Illinois to Arizona. It was a major move- one full moving van plus two thirds of a second one; yes I agree we have way to much stuff. Glen Ellyn did a great job everything was done on time, follow-up was incredible and we had minimal (almost none) damage. read more

Our first contact with the representative and her assistant have been smooth sailing. Always pick up the phone when I call with a question. They are working hard to make this move great. ordered a washer, dryer & refrigerator from home depot which this place delivered & "installed". i use the word install loosely because at this very moment i am dealing with these people. my washer & dryer were poorly installed and pushed back to hide all the issue. Once discovered 1 day later. I call customer service, they send someone out but now are refusing to fix the problems that were caused in the original installation. they starting explaining that since we signed for it we must have been ok with the way that it was installed. reminder they push back the washer/ dryer to hide these issues. they installed the washer/dryer poorly by not putting a long end drain hose or water drain so now both are hanging on for dear life and look like they are ready to bust. the door on the fancy front loader dryer is hitting the sink because the short hose caused them to push it all the way to the sink. with all these problems the very worst part is the customer service with the supervisor/ managers over the phone. they refuse to accept that there is an issue. they refuse to take back the washer/dryers. they refuse to even find a solution to these problems. if you can help it avoid working with these people. read more

We hired Glen Ellyn Mayflower to move us to Florida. We had two storage pods with them and many additional items in our house so it seemed the easiest choice. NEVER EVER choose them unless you enjoy nightmares and crooks. From the lack of follow through on the estimation, the inability to pack in a timely manner as committed, the inability to deliver on the same day as committed and the amount of stolen, broken and damaged items. We called to ask them to have an estimator assigned to come out and meet with us and guess what - they never called us back. No surprise there. Having heard in advance how horrific they were and having learned our lesson about how corrupt they are, we didn't even pursue a claim - it wasn't worth the aggravation for the amount we would get compared to the missing, ruined and damaged items. Next time we will pay attention to reviews online and I hope you take this seriously and we help you avoid the nightmare and loss we experienced. read more

This company was hired as a sub contractor to remove and install our new kitchen appliances by Home Depot last May. As they removed our appliances they scratched our bamboo floor in several places and across many boards. I notified the guys as soon as I noticed the scratches and indicated that they had scratched our floor on the deliver receipt. I took photos of the scratches and sent them to Mike with Glen Ellyn Storage, but he denied our claim. He stated that the delivery people put protective pads down and it wasn't their fault. My wife and I can both say with 100% accuracy that they did scratch our floors and I told Mike that the scratches were outside of their protective pads. I had a quote from our floor installer to repair the floor and he said it would be $4000, because he would have to remove our granite counter tops and cabinets to get to the pieces that need replacing. What ever you do don't use this company. read more
