This is a bed & breakfast and restaurant located in the heart of Letchworth State Park. It was formerly an estate that belonged to William Letchworth, but it has been repurposed and you can now stay here. My wife and I spent a night here in their Cherry Suite most recently and had a decent experience. While the Cherry Suite is not modern by any stretch of the imagination, it's a large room with a nice bathroom with a jet tub inside it. The wallpaper and decor of the room portray a feeling of early 1900 royalty so it's definitely an experience to stay here, but do not expect anything modern aside from somewhat spotty wifi. There is no TV in the suite, although the hotel does have a common space and library which has TV accommodations. The Cherry Suite also has a balcony with a table that looks out on the Middle Falls. While you don't have a perfect view of it; it's still very nice. It's also very soothing to fall asleep to the sound of the waterfalls. The jet tub works well and is a nice addition to the room, although it's a little small for two people. Perfect for one though. The hotel books out around October during the leaf change time so if you want a reservation during a weekend, you really have to make it early or try to get a last minute one on a cancellation. I thought it was pricey too and unfortunately breakfast is not included. The B&B could really improve by: - Having coffee makers or tea makers in the various rooms. - While candles may be a fire hazard, some sort of fake candle options may be nice for the romantic suites. - At the very least offering free breakfast for the hotel guests. read more

Very neat ambiance, especially if you are coming from a visit at the museum across the street. The staff was nice and we were able to socially distance comfortably. We both ordered the Thanksgiving dinner and I wasn't disappointed. I enjoyed the gravy, buttery green beans, and cornbread stuffing. It was a satisfying meal after being out walking in the park on a chilly Fall day. I enjoyed the little gift shop as well and the chandeliers, stained glass windows, and paintings. The only reason I don't give 5/5 stars is that there probably could have been a more generous portion of turkey and that the potatoes, while good maybe could have used a tad more seasoning. "Caroline's" is the restaurant inside the Glen Iris Inn. She had the Tuna Croissant ($20) and I had the Monte Cristo ($19) and each came with a choice of fries or "New York Chips". We both had the chips which are from Marquet Farms of nearby Gainesville, NY, just outside the park. She said the Tuna sandwich was packed with tuna and needed a container for what she could not finish. She also had the French Onion Soup, whcih she found to be chocked with onions. My Monte Cristo teamed with the flaoverful traditonal Monte Cristo sauce. It seemed that the dining room is a bit worn and not what I remembered from long ago visits. No white table linens and flies were abundent. (Ugh!) That being said, this is inside the park and has only limited snack bar competition. Our waitress was L...and while certainly provided us satisfactory service, was not overly warm. (You are dealing with tourists and vacationers, L...) Apparently they will take the admission price off of your price, but we came into the park free as over 62 New York State residents. Went with a friend for lunch on Tuesday, 10/24. Hostess was rude and waitress was seldom seen. I had pot roast which came in one large chunk. The taste was so awful that I couldn't eat it. We had lunch at the Inn and were very disappointed. We didn't have high expectations after reading reviews but still wanted to eat there for historical reasons and bc we hoped the reviews were just in poor taste. I had the pot roast bc that the easiest dish to make and I've never had pot roast I didn't like. It was dry & tough, they were stingy with the gravy and I don't understand why, it's not expensive and it's easy to make. More gravy would have helped the dry issue. The carrots tasted like dirt, they weren't peeled and didn't taste as though they'd been washed. The potatoes were dry and too firm. No roll/bread came with it. Paid $23 for cheapest meal to make and it bombed. Husband ordered a burger, he said it was decent. We had bread pudding for dessert and it was worst bread pudding we've ever eaten. We talked to the elderly couple next to us bc they ordered same dessert and they agreed it was the worst bread pudding they ever had as well. My point in this review is not to diss a historical home/restaurant but it's to let you know you can visit the establishment without wasting your money on the food. The Glen Iris Inn is the former 1800s country estate of William Letchworth, and it can be found inside of Letchworth State Park in Western NY. The Glen Iris Inn is now a converted bed & breakfast inn which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner inside of their large glassed-in dining room. There are 12 rooms and 4 luxury suites located inside the Inn, and then 7 luxury efficiency cottages on the ridge up above the main inn. My Dad and I were lucky enough to snag a room with two beds in the main Inn, and then be able to stay there all weekend. This place definitely forces you to go off the grid, as there is no cell coverage, and no WiFi within the park. Just enjoy the scenery, take a lot of photos, and then upload them once you get back on the road a few days later. The Inn is best known for it's dining room, and they open early in the day to serve breakfast. I had a bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit one morning, and an omelet made with smoked trout on the second day. The dining room gets insanely busy for lunch, with all of the bus tours and day-trippers coming to the Glen Iris Inn for a mid-day meal. That being said, the ladies at the front desk gave preferential treatment to guests of the Inn, and my Dad and I were whisked inside with hardly any wait at all. The lunch menu included homemade soups, appetizers, entrée salads, hot and cold sandwiches, and some lunch-sized entrées. Our waitress told us about their special 'Picnic Menu' which offered a sandwich, an apple, some Hershey's kisses, and a bottle of spring water, bagged and ready for carryout. I opted for that on the second day, as I planned to do some hiking along the river gorge that afternoon. The dinner menu was fabulous, and of course the park is much quieter after the sun goes down. They have an extensive wine and craft beer list, and we happily enjoyed a glass of wine with our dinners. Dinner offers the same selection of homemade soups, small plate appetizers, and entrée salads, but then the kitchen adds steaks, artichoke and chicken, chipotle shrimp & sausage, Bavarian smoked pork, and salmon filet among the entrée choices. Many of the desserts are house-made, and several are prepared tableside. The restaurant also has a vegetarian and gluten-free menu. The scenic beauty of Letchworth State Park is just amazing, and the famed Middle Falls are located just steps away from the front porch of the Inn. These falls are 107 feet high, and 285 feet wide, and my Dad and I enjoyed the sounds of the roaring falls and rushing water all night long. He was delighted to spend an afternoon sitting in a rocking chair on the veranda while I traipsed up and down the trails to get better shots of the gorge. We really enjoyed our stay at the Gen Iris Inn, and I recommend this place to anyone for a special meal while enjoying the beauty of Letchworth State Park. read more

A friend gave the inn a good review, so we took her suggestion during a lovely sunny Sunday tour of the park. The average age of the diners was around 65. My wife commented that the food is bland to accommodate their tastes. She got the prime rib special with mashed potatoes and buttered green beans. Bemused by a salad list with no vegetarian options, I made a special request. The server seemed alarmed by this. By the end of our ordering interaction, I was feeling like an alien. The salad that came back to me had only a faint resemblance to what I had requested, but I was pleased that it has no meat and wasn't iceberg lettuce. The apple caramel martini special was pretty good. Wife enjoyed her steak, once again mentioning its lack of seasoning. The pumpkin spice crème brulé was cold, the meaning of brulé was lost due to lack of contact with the outside world. The restaurant is dated and I wouldn't go back unless I was with someone over 70 for whom the restaurant is a cherished memory. Beautiful setting. We did a hike in Letchworth State Park and were famished. The Glen Iris Inn is famous for their accommodations and dining inside of LSP. It's a charming house, which used to be the country estate of William Pryor Letchworth. It has fabulous views of Middle Falls. Well, as I said, we were hungry after our hike and decided to try eating at the Glen Iris. I was prepared for subpar food or at least average food based on the reviews here on Yelp. Well, we were totally blown away. From the time we made our reservations with the very sweet hostess, we were really pleasantly surprised. Outdoor seating was pretty much full so we had to wait about 25 minutes to get seated, but we went for a little walk to Upper Falls during our wait. By the time we returned, our table was ready. We ordered two cocktails to start. I ordered the Strawberry Mojito (which was a special for that day) and my husband had the NY Bourbon Sour (I believe)? Both were refreshing and delicious! We started with shrimp cocktail, which was perfectly presented. The salmon salad was huge! And the dressing was a light dill dressing. Very light and yet filling salad - perfect on this hot day. My husband ordered the Turkey BLT, which was delicious as well. Honestly, I was expecting so much less, I have to give them props. Don't waste your time here, as tempting as it may be. The restaurant was extremely busy, which is to be expected in the peak of fall color. We waiting for probably 40 minutes and were seated. The staff were friendly (but slow, but I give that a bit of a pass with how busy they were) and the atmosphere was pleasant. The problem I had was with the food. We ordered the baked Danish brie ($12.50) appetizer with mixed berries that looked great when it arrived at the table, but it was definitely lacking. The brie was flavorless and the berry compote was intolerably sweet. Next, I ordered the pumpkin soup bisque ($3.50) that sounded amazing, but when it came I actually had to send it back because it was sweet. It tasted and smelled like pumpkin pie filling that had been thinned with cream. Even after adding multiple dashes of salt, I could not eat it. I ordered a salmon over the New York State Salad ($16.50) as recommended by the waitress. She told me the salmon was fresh and grilled, but the chicken was not as fresh and cold. She was way off. The salad greens were packed so heavy, I could tell that they basically grabbed a fist straight from the container and they were not washed or even "fluffed". The worst part was that the salmon on top was CANNED. No doubt about it. Cold and canned (or maybe from a pouch) - with all the appeal that comes with having that plopped on your bed of dry greens. The dressing was (once again) extremely sweet. I only ate maybe 2 bites. My sister ordered the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich ($13.95). She was disappointed because it was nothing more than a breaded reconstituted Sysco chicken breast with American cheese, marinara on a hamburger bun. Needless to say, the menu LOOKED great, but the execution was less than average to poor. Very disappointed here. When all was said and done, the bill after tip and tax was well over $70. I would have been happier eating at Wendy's. I hope they read these reviews and learn something from them. There is a lot of potential here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Glen Iris Inn for the past four to five days. We were frequent flyer diner's at Caroline's restaurant located inside the Inn. Each meal was absolutely fantastic! The servers were very accommodating, friendly and courteous. The food was delicious! The portions were huge and they did not skimp on green beans!!! Hahaha!! Seriously it was very well put together, the atmosphere was very relaxing. We enjoyed the special treatment, art and photography prints of beautiful Letchworth State Park on the walls. I called to make reservations on a Sunday and was told it was slow and they were unnecessary. When we arrived we asked to be seated near a window as the middle dining room was very dark. Despite seeing many tables free we were told they were not available. The receptionist was rude and short with us and we felt unwelcome. Our server was just as short and unresponsive. Our food was not cheap and was mediocre at best. Our server didn't even ask if we liked the food despite our plates being mostly full when we got the bill. During the course of our meal, we witnessed many patrons come in and get window seats. I asked the server if they needed to be reserved and she replied that it was first come first serve. A quiet time of year (early May) and a perfect opportunity to book the Spring Getaway package at the Glen Iris Inn. Overnight accommodations at the inn, dinner and breakfast were included. Although the package is advertised as taxes and gratuities included, there was no mention of tips being included during our stay. There was a "tip" line to fill out on the bill that was presented for signature after dinner and breakfast, so it felt too cheap or awkward to not leave an appropriate tip at each meal. Service overall was very good. The Douglas Fir room on the third floor was quaint and comfortable. Room is on the small side but that is to be expected in a 100+ year old inn. A nice touch is the coffee service starting at 7am on the second floor. Our dinner at Caroline's was very nice. It was a relaxing meal, and we were able to choose anything we liked from the menu for appetizers, entrees and desserts. Portion sizes were very large. Wine/cocktails were extra. There was certainly something for everyone, including "old school" choices like cherries jubilee flambeed tableside. Music from the 1970s played softly in the dining room, adding to the nostalgic feel of our experience at the Glen Iris Inn. Breakfast in the morning was very good and well prepared (eggs Benedict and French toast). It would have been nice to see some lighter fare listed on the breakfast menu (juices, yogurt, fruit plate). My girlfriend and I stopped at glen iris after hiking in letchworth park. Nice day, walk in and the hostess seem to have an attitude. When she brought us to a table we asked if we could sit by window, the attitude really showed. Not a good start. The interior was out dated, started to feel we should leave. I said, let's get some drinks and share a dessert. We ordered coffee drinks with liquor. We get and taste, could not taste any coffee. We told the waitress, seemed like we were being a pain to her. We ate at the Inn yesterday, there was a limited menu but it had plenty to choose from. I had the chef special pork chop with baked potato and brussel sprouts. The food was mediocre and not what I expected when ordering the special. Pork chop was dry and over cooked and the baked potato was cooked several hours ago and kept hot. The skin of the patato was inedible. The service was done very well and our server was very attentive. All in all not a great experience but just okay. read more

Came here for mother's day and I honestly wasn't impressed. Reservations for 3, didn't get seated until 3:30/3:45. Staff all seemed on edge and came off unwelcoming and blunt. Service was prompt and did well keeping up on orders and keeping drinks filled. But the food seemed to take a bit to come out in between each course. My biggest complaint is the food, this place isn't cheap, but the food is beyond lackluster for the price. Ordered the Filet Mignon which came with green beans and mashed potatoes. All of it was prepared properly, but also everything was cold by the time it reached the table. The green beans were your run of the mill green beans, same with the mashed potatoes, and the steak had no seasoning on it. They tried to rely too heavily on the peppercorn/salt compound butter they slap on top, but all it did was add a mild butter flavor to an otherwise dull steak. I love steak, but seasoning really amplifies the flavor from being just meat. The location is amazing with great views of the falls, but at the end of the day it misses the mark for an upscale restaurant. read more

My husband and I have been coming here to celebrate our anniversary for the 6 years we have been married. We always book the Cherry Suite which has a balcony overlooking the falls, and we always eat dinner and breakfast at the restaurant inside the Inn. We are never disappointed with the food or the service. Large open windows provide gorgeous views of immaculately manicured flowers and the occasional wedding. The French onion soup is my favorite. If you are a minority, I would not recommend going here. The difference in treatment from the way they spoke to us and acted was night and day from the way they spoke and acted towards white customers. Not once did our server come to check on us or offer us more water. Yes, it was busy but she seemed to have time to check on the table behind us and other tables twice. My husband and I went to Letchworth for a hike on our honeymoon. We decided to stop by the Inn and eat before leaving. Our expectations were low already because it's a restaurant in the middle of a park. We weren't exactly looking to be wowed. The meal started with sub-par white wine that was too warm for my liking. My husband had a Peroni which was probably the only good part of the meal. We were served our shrimp cocktail which tasted like dipping pre-frozen shrimp into ketchup. We then moved on to our freezer burned tasting dinner rolls that were so dry. We both decided to get the beat salad for our starters because we usually love beets. Sadly the beet salad is nothing but a garden salad with overly sweetened raspberry dressing and cut canned beets. What a disappointment. At this time we were unhappy with the meal, but waited for our main course because we figured it couldn't get worse. But it did. He ordered a rack of lamb cooked medium rare - they overcooked it until it was crispy. His mashed potatoes were like glue. I ordered a medium rare steak and it was almost humorous what was served to me. My steak looked like it was mooing. It looked like a piece of meat was microwaved for 5 mins and served to me. The smell almost made me vomit. The least someone could have done was grill or sear the steak to create a crust. I took a picture of this hideous thing they call steak and will be posting it. We didn't eat our meals. We apologized to the waitress because we really hate sending things back. We did not order anything else. When my husband asked the waitress if most of this food is pre-frozen and microwaved, the waitress said "No, I don't think so?" You could tell that was a pure and blatant lie. The waitress gave us our check and never came back to our table. We waited for 20 mins and finally another waitress came over and took care of it for us. We were originally going to tip her on the cost of the full meal because it wasn't her fault the food was horrible. But when she decided to avoided us, her tip dwindled down as the minutes passed by. After spending the day enjoying the sightseeing and hiking at Letchworth State Park, we had dinner at Caroline's at the Glen Iris Inn, which was formerly the home of William Letchworth. The restaurant area overlooks a beautiful waterfall on the Genesee River (you can't actually view the waterfall from the dining area, but the restaurant is a couple hundred feet from a gorgeous overlook). We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and decided to enjoy an adult beverage on the porch while we waited. We checked in with the hostess and she told us she would send a server out to take our drink order, which someone promptly came out. There were 4 of us dining, so we ordered different things to share and taste. Appetizers- *French Onion Soup: absolutely delicious, full of flavor with the right balance of seasonings - would definitely order that again. *Chicken Teriyaki Potstickers w/ Sesame Soy dipping Sauce: general consensus was that they were very good. We thought was that the sauce could use a slight sweet touch to it, as it tasted too much like plain soy sauce with sesame seeds added to it. *Fried Calamari w/ Cajun Sour Cream: very disappointing. The fired calamari was a basic breaded calamari, and the Cajun Sour Cream tasted like sour cream mixed with a little salsa, very little flavor and could not pick up on anything that would label this sauce as Cajun. I would not order this again, especially for $11.95. Salads: Dressing was tasty, lettuce was fresh and crisp. A suggestion to the restaurant: don't serve the Caesar salad dressing in a plastic cup on the side of the plate. Traditionally places that offer Caesar salads toss the dressing with the lettuce prior to serving it, which is part of the Caesar salad experience and how we would have preferred it. Entrees: *Shrimp Genesee: Delicious. Four large shrimp stuffed with feta cheese, wrapped in bacon, and served over a garlicky sautéed spinach with a side of sugar snap peas. This was a tasty, enjoyable dish that I would order again. *Chicken & Artichoke French: Tasty chicken breasts (and an artichoke heart) dredged in a flour and egg batter! sautéed, and topped with a lemony sauce. Not a lot of sauce, but very good nonetheless. *NY Strip Streak: no special flair, and on the thin side - your basic generic strip steak cooked nicely and topped with fried onion rings, but not worth a $26.95 price tag. *Bavarian Smoked Pork: boneless pork slices with a homemade BBQ sauce, broccoli slaw, and red smashed potatoes. Very tasty with a little kick to the BBQ sauce. 4.75 stars for the restaurant and the atmosphere/ambiance 4.5 stars for the service 3.75 stars for the food in terms of average taste 3 stars for the quality of the food vs the price. We would definitely visit the restaurant again. We liked the atmosphere, our water glasses were promptly filled, and our server was friendly and attentive. Prices were a little on the high side, which we expected. I don't mind paying the prices as long as the price matches the quality of the food. Unfortunately, the calamari and strip steak especially didn't live up to the price tag. Our bill was $150.00 for 4 people, including appetizers, no beverages, no dessert. read more

What a huge disappointment! My daughters and I took a day trip to Letchworth to enjoy the trails and eat lunch. Having been told by a friend that the restaurant was quite good, we were looking forward to a nice meal before our hike. We arrived after the lunch hour, so were offered the "summer interlude" menu. We asked to be seated outside, but the overpowering smell of fertilizer in the plants forced us indoors. We ordered the ravioli and potstickers for appetizers, and the turkey BLT, Thai salad, and Waldorf chicken sandwich on a croissant for our entrees. We asked if the potstickers were fried, to which our waitress replied "no." We also asked for NO green onions on our Thai salad. When the potstickers arrived, they were drenched in oil and yes, fried. When the Thai salad arrived, there was a huge mound of green onions on the plate. They were also sprinkled throughout the salad. We had to return both items. The croissant was not at all flaky or fresh. It felt factory produced and because it wasn't toasted, it tasted greasy and just plain gross. Though the Waldorf chicken salad was described as having grapes and a walnuts in it, I must have counted one grape and half a walnut. The chicken and mayo was tossed into one big messy mush. The turkey BLT was so-so. The bread was on the stale side and there was way too much mayo. For desert, we ordered the yogurt parfait which was described as having greek honey yogurt and fresh fruit and topped with granola, but when it arrived, it also had a mountain of whipped cream on it. We had to return that as well and ask for it without the whipped cream. The only upside was that ambience was nice and the waitress tried to be as accommodating as possible. But the sheer number of mistakes, poor quality of food, and miscommunication that took place during that simple late afternoon meal, resulted in one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time. There are some wonderfully comprehensive reviews about the Glen Iris Inn that are extremely informative. (Well done, Yelpers!) I won't be redundant and give you the history of the place nor describe the decor; you can read those specifics in previous posts. I will tell you, however, about my unique experience. My first visit to Glen Iris was on a Friday afternoon with 14 senior citizens - residents of a local assisted living community. We had come for lunch after driving all over Letchworth State Park. I could see that the turkey sandwiches consisted of real slices of turkey -- not processed and reconstituted turkey that one occasionally receives. The croissants were ample sized, were a beautiful buttery baked color, and appeared to be fresh. The wafting smell of the French Onion Soup, which I understand is a staple on their menu, truly made me regret not ordering it. The angel hair pasta with sun-dried tomatoes was delicious! Possibly one of the best I have eaten. Overall, portion sizes were generous and the staff quite attentive and professional. It seemed the staff received more than your average training, as they were more sensitive and aware of my aged residents requirements than most. For example: they were quick to move my residents' walkers out of the way on their own initiative; many times I have to ask wait staff to help me relocate the walkers. Because they assisted with this, I was able to better focus on doing my job and help residents settle in. While departing the inn, one of my residents underestimated the number of steps leading off the porch and fell. Though not seriously hurt, he was a bit shook up and one of his hands and his head were bleeding. As soon as we notified the restaurant, they were quick to respond with first aid supplies. The woman (I'm assuming she held a managerial position) who provided the supplies was calm, and understood that overly dramatic tones would not be appreciated by the fallen gentleman. (Sometimes when dealing with seniors, even the most well-meaning individuals can become overly solicitous and unintentionally condescending. She was not.) She joined us in light-hearted chatter which eased the tension for him and for all those observing his care. A note about Letchworth: while cell phone service and wi-fi is sketchy at best, you should not feel like you are lost to civilization. The Visitor's Center is staffed with knowledgeable and helpful personnel who can help with many situations. We had a much more serious medical matter occur later that day and a quick and efficient Visitor's Center employee, along with the local volunteer ambulance, were invaluable in my resident's recovery. read more

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a child. Last fall we had a decent dinner . Not great but edible. We did have drinks on the veranda on a beautiful evening and were treated to the most spectacular site of a hot air balloon going right over the falls. It was an enchanting evening. We couldn't wait to come back. We did just last month. The beautiful view is still there, but that's all. The food was so bad I was outraged. I ordered soup as a starter and I could not eat it. The server could have cared less. They never took it off the bill. At the end it was 170.00 for food that was horrible. The service was terrible. The interior is very tired looking to add insult to injury. They need to refresh the interior, fire the chef , hire pleasant people and train them how to be a professional wait staff . What an overpriced disappointment. I'm all for simple food done right but wow. Mediterranean wrap was cold and mostly canned olives and artichokes. Fries were cold. Wings were sad. Sangria had nothing to do with wine and was mostly ice. Over $90 for two sandwiches, one appetizer, two cups plus one bowl of soup and two "sangria" drinks. Hahahaha. No thanks. Won't be back. And if you're at all concerned about Covid, don't expect any distance between you and the next table. Chairs were touching backs. read more

A nice old fashioned Inn for those who want to disconnect from the world and experience Letchworth State Park. The view overlooking the middle falls is one of the most amazing I've had from any hotel or B&B. The only downside is terrible cell service and no wifi meant being unintentionally off the grid unless we ventured a mile or two outside of the park. The restaurant downstairs is pricy and you dont have access to a fridge or microwave so plan your meals accordingly or count on spending $40-50 a person on dinner. No elevator.
