Don't let negative reviews fool you: this place is great. Sure, it's not the old Glenwood Oaks. It's a lot different, especially for a crowd of older white people that used to frequent it back when my grandparents were regulars. Do yourself a favor and order something from the seafood menu. My husband and I went there for dinner. We were loyal patrons in the past. Due to some family issues, this is the first time going there since it changed hands. You walk in and the first thing you see is a security person with a predominately displayed police badge. (Clue #1). We went at 4:00 in the evening. Without asking, the hostess seated us in the open air part of restaurant where a live Hispanic band was singing in Spanish. I ordered a frozen mango margarita. My husband ordered a 7-up or Sprite. Waitress comes back to tell me they don't have frozen margaritas in mango flavor. I ask if they have any frozen or just not in mango? Waitress says she thinks they may have frozen in strawberry flavor. I tell waitress if they have frozen in strawberry, I would take that. If they didn't offer frozen, I said I would prefer a diet soda. The margaritas were $12. I to!d the waitress that at $12 I would prefer it the way I wanted which was frozen..on the rocks as the alcohol tends to go more to my head. Waitress brings back a mango on the rocks and sets it in front of me....asks me to try it. Meanwhile she tells my husband they have no 7-up or Sprite...only Squirt. After 3-4 times back and forth with the waitress trying to understand what they did and did not have, we simp!y gave in and took the drinks. The menu is written in Spanish, with English bylines. Multi-meat/person platters on the menu are only listed in Spanish. The entire wait staff is comprised of primarily young Hispanic women with short skirts, tight fitting clothes or very !ow tops with a lot of cleavage on display. While this maybe appropriate for a Saturday night club atmosphere.... It didn't seem appropriate for an early dinner crowd. The frosting on the cake came when we were presented with the bill with a 18% tip already having been added in!!!! There was just two of us! We did not ask to be seated nor were we asked if we wanted to be seated in the live entertainment area. We were never informed of any cover charge for sitting in that area. We have rarely ever short changed any waiter or waitress. But to be asked to pay 18% with no choice given the poor experience was a bit much! When I mentioned it to the waitress she shrugged her shoulders! If that wasn't bad enough, when I was presented with the bill to be signed...it actually suggested adding another 1-3%!!! $92 for fajitas and a poorly trained staff experience. This place gets zero stars. Our church ministry decided to have it's Christmas/Anniversary celebration here. One member called 2 weeks prior to confirm their hours of operation on Sundays and to confirm they offer brunch. She was told they open at 11am and yes, there is a brunch buffet. We all arrived at 11am. The doors were locked. The person scheduled to open arrived at 1105am. She also stated she was supposed to be training someone and that someone was not there. We later found out she was just the bar tender. Once we got seated and settled, we were told there is no brunch buffet. The member who called to confirm explained she spoke to a guy who said there is a buffet. The worker called the guy who clearly remembered speaking to her and said he did say there is a brunch buffet. The worker went on to explain that the buffet was discontinued days after that call. So we then sat and quickly decided where to go for brunch. I had to make a stop at the bathroom. I could not find the worker so I had to wander around to find it. One of the "dining rooms" I wandered through looked more like a store room with chairs and tables and stuff piled around. We eventually left at about 1125. The worker who was supposed to be trained still had not arrived. I cannot recommend this place. We came here because we were told there is a brunch buffet. It was not a busy night and it took forever to get the food. The food was not the same quality as the food Glenwood Oaks served. The server never came back to see if we needed anything. We had to hunt down the server when we were ready to leave because they were too busy chatting among themselves. Lucky for them an 18% gratuity was added to the bill because they might have got a 10% tip. We will never go there again and telling everyone I know to avoid the place. If I could give the place zero stars I would. First, let's talk about how they should stop using the Glenwood Oaks menu all together. As a patron of many years, I can honestly say that nothing tasted is the same. The integrity of the old recipes have not been maintained. Next, because the food was so awful the waiter offered us a refund for one of the meals. She asked the bartender for help issuing the refund (that we didn't even ask for) and without listening to her the bartender comes over our table and rudely informs us that they don't typically give refunds. That's fine and all but we didn't even ask for one, it was offered to us, so why wouldn't we take it considering the food was complete trash. Have been going to Glenwood Oaks since the 1960's when it was Poor Richards. Food and service has always been great. Apparently there are new owners. We had a Glenwood Oaks gift certificate that they would not honor. It is more of a sports bar now with multiple TV's and two bars where we were seated. Only a couple at the bar but very loud and vulgar. Food was ok at best and over priced for what we got. 18% gratuity is added to your bill automatically even for our party of 2. Years ago we would travel from chicago for a quality dinner. Now were in indiana and made the trip for a loud bar atmosphere with garage doors lining one side of the dining room for our Sunday dinner. From the dark bar area, and dining room by the bar to the main dining room. I was here on Tuesday (Mardi Gras) fairly early (5p), and the seniors were out enforce. The apetizers were tasty. Shrimp dejonge, well made and garlicky, the calamari, again tasty, well made. It's great to know some restaurants remain the same. This family owned restaurant has served this community for years hosting parties and family feasts. This is home cooking with love. No real fancy presentations, but the food is seasoned well and the portions are plentiful. On Friday nights, they still provide live Oldie but Goodies" music twice a month. The drinks are usually amped up with alcohol and don't miss the homemade soups and salads that accompany entrees. This is a new era in restaurant dining in the COVID-19 age. Hoping it's temporary. Personally I'm of the opinion overall that it's more effort then it's worth in the mist of this pandemic to eat out. Not so much intending to dine out as much as catch some live entertainment, I drove by Glenwood Oaks and saw outdoor seating to a live entertainment tent. I arrived with apprehension but left with a full stomach and a feeling of time well spent. With regards to squelching my fears of COVID there was ample outdoor seating. At least and typically more then 6 feet of distance existed between each table and seats from which each person sat. The menu was disposable one time use. Utensils were from factory individually wrapped plastic with napkins, all drinks and entrees were served in disposable plastic cups and quality paper plates. All servers, wait staff, and bus boys wore masks or visors and disposable gloves. I noticed that every table got a disinfectant wipe down between each set of new costumers with ample time given before a table was reused for serves. All that I saw put me at ease and I felt comfortable that measures where taken for our safety. It likewise helped that I brought with me my own bottle of sanitizer which we used periodically during our meal. Not so much that we had to but that we could and it added an extra measure of assurance that we were doing all we could to be safe. This attention to detail defiantly helped in us relaxing to enjoy our drinks, meal, and the evening of entertainment. I applaud the ownership in seeing to all the measures I listed carried out. I compliment all of their staff especially our server Bailey in being so proficient. helpful, and professional. These are stressful times. Dining out now must be evaluated with not only the old criteria's but as well new factors. I give the new factors related to the so called "New Normal" high marks for Glenwood Oaks. I was pleasantly surprised and reassured by their attention to needed modifications due to COVID. Evaluating the old criteria's, I noticed the menu a little less extensive then prior COVID but it was still ample with selections to please all with regards to appetizers, Seafood, meat, pasta, and other selections. The quality and tastiness of their entries hasn't gone down and remains the same. It's still very good. I won't say it's the best or near the best I'd ever had of any entry but its more then adequate and worthy of returning. I will say I wholeheartedly enjoyed the entertainment Of Frank Rossi on keyboards and accordion, Mike on drums, and Sharon lending beautiful vocals. Given my wife's mastery of our home kitchen, we probably will be eating at home more then usual even with things opening up. I will say though that Glenwood Oaks outdoor dining especially when they offer live entertainment will become a regular thing for my family as we feel comfortable having eaten there with the measures they have taken. Ah Glenwood Oaks, what can I say? It's dated and dingy, but seemingly clean. It's the kind of place that the whole family has to go to on special occasions because grandma and grandpa are paying the bill. That said it has been around for decades for a reason. It's decent local food that has been around for decades.  My go to entree is their ribs ($30/slab comes with a side). Are they earth shattering? No. But they are very good. Meaty and cooked so that they still have a little bite to them without being tough. They also offer a pretty tasty well-seasoned fried chicken. Sides are standard potato, veg, pasta "of the day." Like everywhere else lately service is hit or miss. There are plenty of newer restaurants around offering a more interesting fare, but sometimes it's comforting to go back to the old standby.  It's worth stopping in for dinner if you want the age old standard "nice dinner." read more

The Prime Rib I ordered was $40. It was cold and the mixed veggies served with it were barely edible when they finally arrived 1.5 hours after ordering. I absolutely adore this place! Brother of owner designed a metal plate especially for serving their delicious ribs. It has a ledge for full stack, a small channel for sauce in front and you throw the bones behind the ledge! Perfect. We sat in the bar dining which was more intimate. Cute Xmas village setting along every edge with small houses, lights, faux snow. I think it's some famous collection like Dickens? Regardless. Very charming. About those ribs, we asked ours be extra cooked, almost burnt. And they were exactly. Delicious. Accompanied with either baked or sweet tater. We had one salad with an awesome array of dressing choices...and I enjoyed the lobster bisque. I could have licked that bowl clean! All served with crusty sour dough bread ball. I was really expecting more from this place! I was supper excited to finally have a seafood place closer to home but I was truly disappointed and will not be returning. There was a couple of things that didn't sit right about this place. As my husband and I sat to have a nice dinner we came across a table who had a roach crawling off the table cover, we proceeded to tell the waitress and as embarrassed as the waitress was she knocked it off and killed it right in front of us apologizing to us. After giving the review a whole days thought after the meal, and unfortunately I've had much muh better and have made much better food myself in my own kitchen. If it weren't for the fact that my grandparents have reached the point that they cannot cook, we would have not ordered food here or we would've had them come up to eat by us... The salmon was alright. It had a great looking glaze on It that made me want to love it, but I just couldn't. It was sort of tender than sort of not. The edges were overdone to the point that I had to use a steak knife to cut it. The flavor was aight. For looking so good it could've been better. The ribs were meh. If I were a small child or if it were a TV dinner then no complaints, but being from a 'reputable' (my a$$) restaurant, you'd think they'd have more sauce and flavor. You can see in the photo how small the ribs are and they lacked any sort of flavor. Now this isn't to say they were dry. Just tasteless and had barely any meat.. The green beans left me completely indifferent in the sense that they were beans. I mean you can't mess up beans but no flavor again! Cooked in bacon fat! This evening I placed a to go order. I asked the girl did they have baked chicken and she said yes. I ordered 12 piece baked chicken and 2 Oak burgers. The girl who works there said I could pick it up in 20 minutes. I got there within 30 minutes. She left me sitting at the drive thru window for 15 minutes. I took my mom here for her birthday and we had a great time from the vodka martini to the dinner. We started with the Sea food lovers appetizer. This had Oysters Rockefeller, large meaty Shrimp and Callamari. This was just the beginning of our great experience. I had the Onion Soup and it was out of this world. It is a 40 year old recipe and the best I have ever had. We both had steaks my mom had the Mignon and I had the Ribeye both were done to perfection.
