    One of their better lunches.

I can remember the clamor and hype when this establishment opened in 1974. People raved about it. My findings today are a tad disappointing. While attending Prairie State College recently, Glenwood Oaks provided our daily lunches. While they can provide a full range from excellent to mediocre, much of their lunch entrees with simply average. The quality is not consistent. They are capable of producing some delectable dishes but oftentimes settle for far below the highest of possibilities. Ok. Not the best.

Great food and service. Outstanding location and atmosphere. Parking lots are amazing

This is an old style, above average neighborhood restaurant. Don't get me wrong, it's clean and we'll kept, it's just got an old feeling. From the dark bar area, and dining room by the bar to the main dining room. I was here on Tuesday (Mardi Gras) fairly early (5p), and the seniors were out enforce. The apetizers were tasty. Shrimp dejonge, well made and garlicky, the calamari, again tasty, well made. The onion rings, although they taste good, comes to the table a tangled mess that's hard to take off the plate without pulling the whole thing onto your plate. I had the ribs. Very well done, very flavorful, served on a nice rib plate, and a Tuesday special. Very good. Lot of parking, excellent service, clean. Men's room, very good.

It's great to know some restaurants remain the same. This family owned restaurant has served this community for years hosting parties and family feasts. This is home cooking with love. No real fancy presentations, but the food is seasoned well and the portions are plentiful. On Friday nights, they still provide live Oldie but Goodies" music twice a month. The drinks are usually amped up with alcohol and don't miss the homemade soups and salads that accompany entrees. Dessert is even better, although after eating the AYCE Cod fish dinner I didn't have any room left. Next time. I'll be back for my other favorite meal Prime Rib. You can't beat the price or service.

I ordered a Riesling... too sweet, tasted more like a Moscato, 6/10. Caesar salad, was perfect and I added cucumbers .50 more. Perfectly crispy, well dressed 10/10. I also ordered the pot roast 10/10 which I didn't eat much of as I was full but everything tasted perfect seasoned and tender vegetables, roast. Sauce was perfect with the mash potatoes too. Service was perfect. She answered all our questions, was patient and attentive. Jaaniyah 10/10. Be aware, this last part is the business/credit card companies and not the server. A 3% surcharge for credit cards is already added to receipt, as well as an 18% service charge. It's not always clear who all receives the service charge as it is not listed as gratuity but it cannot be removed. So do your math's if you're looking to tip 20%

For the pricing, I expected much better flavor, quality, and overall creativity. The shareables were overpriced, the drinks were mid-level at best, and nothing really stood out enough to justify the cost. The space itself is nice and works well as a social spot or sports bar atmosphere where you can sit, talk, watch games, and enjoy company. That part of the experience was probably the highlight. However, the service was also lacking because the restaurant seemed noticeably short-staffed. It took a long time to receive attention and proper service throughout the visit, which added to the frustration. Overall, the location and atmosphere have potential, but the menu, food quality, drink execution, pricing, and staffing experience need major improvement to match the type of establishment they appear to be aiming for.

I was recently looking for some restaurants to try that are black owned. Saw a video that The Black…read moreFoodies did on this establishment so my friend decided to go here on 3/25/25. It's in Flossmoor, IL. I'm so happy to do this review on them. We went on a Tuesday and although I had in mind what I wanted to order from the regular menu, we arrived while their Happy Hour was still going on so we decided to take advantage of their tacos for Taco Tuesday and their guacamole. The guac and chips came out first. It looked so fresh and when I tasted it, the angels were singing! Delicious. Then came the tacos - I was surprised how big they were, filled up with good stuff. I had the steak and the chicken. Both were good but I liked the steak best. I had had a challenging workday so I treated myself to the Lemondrop Flight as I love lemondrop martinis. You can pick three from the flavors of original, passion fruit, watermelon, mango and strawberry. The presentation is beautiful in what they bring it in. Toya, one of the owners made it herself and she is definitely a good at making drinks. I enjoyed them immensely. This place is a total VIBE - small, intimate and cozy. They play R&B that takes you back to the 80s and 90s - we were thoroughly enjoying it. Many come in and sit at the bar where there are two large screen TVs. They also have a small outdoor seating when the weather is nice. We were really enjoying our time there. We had the best wait staff - Chris was super cool, engaging and just plain nice. He was informing us of all the events they have there which piqued my interest. Toya also came over and talked with us and I complimented her on the restaurant and promised her that I would definitely be back and would bring others. I have already posted about them on social media and many of my friends are planning on seeing what they offer. For dessert, I ordered the Turtle Cheesecake. I'm kind of a cheesecake snob because my late Mother made the best cheesecake. The presentation of their cheesecake was gorgeous. The caramel drizzle and nuts on it was inviting. One bite and I was SOLD! I was too full to eat the entire big slice they gave me so I worked on it some more when I got home. This place opened in 2023. I wish them the best because they definitely have something there. I can't wait to come back there, it's a place to come, relax, eat good food and enjoy the positive environment that there. Check out their weekly events, brunch and live entertainment on Saturdays. Thank you Poppin' Corks, A+!!

One of the first recommendations for a restaurant that I got when I moved to the Far South Suburbs…read morecame from a server at a breakfast spot that I had visited. She recommended Poppin Corks Bistro. I passed by several time, and being solo, I was looking to get a seat at the bar rather than in the main dining area. There has never been a time that I passed that there was a seat open at the bar, so I sat in the main dining area this one time. I ordered blackened catfish with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. This was a hit. It was full of flavor without going overboard with seasoning. And I appreciate that it was cooked to order. It made up for the cranberry juice being water with a "hint" of cranberry juice, an indication that it probably came from a tap. Service was top and one of the owners made rounds to check on customers. I may stop by again at some point in the future. It would certainly be a welcomed break when I am taking respite from cooking at home.
