I was not excited about meeting here after reading the reviews but can't wait to return after dining here. There was a group of 10 of us. Service was a little slow but understandable. We were greeted nicely and warned of workers calling off. They even provided mixed chips between our appetizers and entrees. We started with the grilled and fried shrimp. Both were amazing. Realizing there was no dipping sauce but not being able to stop eating them while awaiting sauce was commendable. Both were very tasty. The fried green tomatoes were cooked perfectly and seasoned impeccably... again no sauce needed. The catfish and the salmon bites again, seasoned and fried perfectly. The fried mushrooms were different but so good. The star of the night was the Shaniky pasta and I'm not a pasta fan. I had only one complaint. For the same price, you get either 4 pieces of beautifully fried catfish and fries or one piece of beautifully fried catfish sitting in a huge bowl of very tasty but dry dirty rice. I would eat the dirty rice again, but I would choose 4 pieces of beautiful fried catfish with fries any day over a big bowl of rice and one piece of fish. Will definitely return.... Service and the atmosphere were great. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly, so first impressions were definitely positive. The Thursday special was the highlight of the meal. The lamb chops were well-seasoned, and the lemon drops absolutely saved the day. The appetizers were decent too. The crab cakes were a nice size, but at $12 each, they felt overpriced. I think serving three smaller crab cakes for around $15 would make more sense and create a better presentation. I didn't personally try the oysters, but everyone in my group agreed they would've been much better without the cheese, which overpowered the flavor. Now...the main attraction--the item the restaurant is literally named after--the crab bagz. Unfortunately, they were more like trash bagz. The shrimp tasted like a frozen bag of shrimp from Aldi that was simply boiled with a little butter. The smoked sausage looked and tasted more like a boiled hot dog. Frying or grilling the sausage before adding it to the bag would make a huge difference in both flavor and texture. The corn tasted old, almost like it had been sitting in seasoned water for hours and was simply reheated when ordered. By the time I got to the potato, I had completely lost interest. The entire boil needs more seasoning cooked into the seafood and vegetables--not just added afterward. A heavier Cajun dry seasoning and deeper flavor infusion would go a long way. New Orleans is my second home, so yes, my standards for seafood boils are high. But this just missed the mark. If I came back, it would be for the drinks, lamb chops, and appetizers. Went on Mother's Day and was honestly very underwhelmed. Let me start with the positives: the oysters were amazing -- hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The fried chicken wings were also delicious: crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Our servers, Jordan and Ashton, were spot on the entire time -- timely, professional, polite, and accommodating given the circumstances. Now for the rest. The brunch menu and pricing were a bit ridiculous. When our group first arrived, we were told there were no fried options available, yet later during the meal we noticed other tables receiving fried food -- which is ultimately how we ended up getting the chicken wings ourselves. The food came out sporadically, and some people in our party never even received what they ordered. The restaurant was not particularly busy, so it honestly felt more like poor execution than being overwhelmed. The music was nice in the background, and the drinks were great, but overall the experience was disappointing -- especially for a table celebrating three generations of mothers on Mother's Day. When we addressed the issues, the restaurant manager, Rashaun, seemed more inconvenienced than concerned. If I could give a negative star rating I would. This place is trash. From the customer service at the door, to management and the food. No one knows a thing about customer service or cooking (for that matter). They mask their lack of cooking by over spicing the food. So hot, you cant even enjoy it. Wow! This place is a must if you're in the Homewood. I came across this place trying to kill some time and it looked like a cozy environment to spend some time. It truly was, the team was super attentive and very sweet. The place is not overly fancy but it is absolutely comfortable with a bar and dining area. Everything on the menu looked great, and we just happened to show up on the weekend that they've launched their brunch! When it comes to the food this place is delicious!!! We ordered the crab cake phenomenon and the crabaganza, only with shrimp, and a waffle. This is going to sound ridiculous, but the first thing I bit into was the garlic bread and my friend and I knew the rest of the meal was going to be insane. Literally laughing at each other looking at the rest of the food saying "if the bread is this good the rest of this has to be out of this world" and it was!!! So I was going to another establishment and was super hungry from ripping and running all day and I came up to this place. So I've checked it out. The staff was very nice. The restaurant was very clean and organized. Of course you will smell seafood, but again, it's a crab joint. I've ordered the amaretto sour for my drink and this is the only place that offers flavored which I've never had for this cocktail. I've ordered the "The Navigator " which is a 1/2 lb shrimp and 1/2 snow crab. The size runs mid size but comes with potatoes and corn. The only downside for the sauce is their butter sauce. The server said they add extra sauces was a tab bit salty for me which I have to watch out for my blood pressure. I've also ordered fried shrimp. Food came out hot and the atmosphere was chilled and the music was amazing. R&B classics and Neo soul. My type of vibe. Again the staff were great and compliments to the chef. This was my first time visiting and of course I noticed the restaurant from social media. I'll try to capture as much as I can in this review so sit tight. I got there right at opening time and they were ready and open. The ordering process was a little weird. The owner told us to sit down and then come to the front when we were ready to order. I got a shrimp bag but I wasn't able to sub out the corn or potatoes for broccoli so I ended up adding it on. I do appreciate the veggie option though. Also, the smack and cheese, as they call it, was unavailable even though it said available Friday through Sunday. When asked why it wasn't available, the owner said she was glad she didn't make it because nobody ordered it the day before. I thought that was an odd response and it felt like I was being punished for the previous day's customer's lack of ordering the dish-odd. Nonetheless, the shrimp were fresh and plentiful in the bag. The flavor was good but not anything I haven't had before. I had fiery spice and it was perfect. I ordered a South Gate cocktail which was very small but good and stiff, how I like it. The bartender (owner's husband) was cool and offered decent banter with myself and my friend. She ordered a Crabalina drink and enjoyed it as well. My friend also had the fried shrimp and said they were good. The owner told us they had music via DJ on the wknd around 5. I'd def comee back for that experience. So I visited this restaurant on a Friday evening when I walked in the restaurant it was only one customer inside me and my family sat down. We ordered. We waited a while for the food. All of our food came out separate about 20 minutes apart. The shrimp grits were good, but the only thing that I didn't like about it was that my shrimp and grits was warm my fish was hot and fresh but the shrimp still had the tail on it . Once my friend arrived she ordered some shrimp also and tried the honey garlic sauce but she didn't like it. The shrimp are FRESH out the grease and just the right amount of crispy. She also ordered the catfish and grits which I tasted the grits and we both agreed was REALLY good! They have an excellent playlist going on in here definitely a vibe!! I ordered 1Lb of Snow Crab with Andouille Sausage, Fiery, and I added Noodles and I had a margarita to wash it all down. I'm a crab lover and the meat in the legs were REALLY good... I was nervous to try the noodles because they were not garlic noodles like at Cajun Boil but surprisingly they were really good!!! My only issue with my bag was I got fiery and it was not spicy enough for me and there was not enough juice. The owner was there and she was really nice and graciously accepted my feedback!!! Ok, so this is my 1st time here and I brought my family as well. My son and I ordered the catfish platter and my fiancé and daughter in law ordered the navigator (crab &shrimp boil). Their boil came out first within 25 mins of being there. Me and my son catfish came out about 40 mins of being there. Both entrees were good.
