Glitter was my first ever karaoke bar and I really enjoyed it. It has a great ambience and music, friendly employees, and a pretty nice DJ. Four friends and I visited on a Thursday night and were a little taken aback by the stage karaoke in front of the entire bar (we were expecting more of a private room deal). However, we mustered up the courage to perform in front of the crowd and it was pretty exhilarating! At each table there's a link/app to a song list. You can choose any of the songs, write down your name and table number and give it to the DJ. We arrived a bit before 10 and karaoke began soon after. The DJ alternates between requests from different tables, so it took a while for all our song requests to go through. The venue is pretty nice, not too cramped or too spacious. For some reason a lot of tables had "Reserved" marked on them but there didn't seem to be any special guests. It was hard to find a table that was not reserved so we ended up sitting at a back booth (which coincidentally was still somehow reserved). There's a bit of an older crowd but we still felt pretty comfortable being the youngest ones there. We didn't order any food or drinks, but everything seemed pretty reasonably priced. We booked a private room last night for our friends birthday party and the service was horrible. While preparing for the entire party to arrive we asked who our bartender/waitress would be for the night and was accused of being drunk because of our personality. We finally was notified of who our waitress was 45 mins later. She had an attitude as soon as she walked in as if we did something wrong. Once more of our party started to showed up they tried ordering from the bar because our waitress was nowhere to be found. The male bartender informed us (with an attitude) we could not order from the bar and "WE" needed to find our waitress. I don't understand how this establishment requires you to spend a minimum of $300 to book a private room when you have to constantly look for your waitress to even place order. I would understand if it was a busy night but the main Karaoke area had maybe 10-15 people. This experience was not fun and the private room was extremely hot and dirty. Thankfully we were able to turn on a fan from the room that was connected. If you're looking for amazing service and atmosphere I recommend Spotlight Karaoke nearby instead. read more

The vibe is fun and I like the karaoke, but the bartenders in this bar will rip you off. I got my credit card stolen. The bartender (Belle) said they didn't have my car and gave me a receipt that had a different order and name on it for me to sign. She wouldn't give me my card back and when I ask her to correct my order and charge me for what I had consumed, she acted very rude and disrespectful, started making fun of me with other customers at the bar and ignored my request. I had to cancel my credit card and dispute a $200+ tab after I only had one drink there on a Wednesday night at a work event. My coworker was charged with 10 beers after he only had tow. The disrespect and unprofessionalism of this bartender was unbelievable. read more

I always have such a good time here whenever we get a private room. Just be sure to book a room far in advance so you get your date. They have usually allowed us to bring in outside food, but all drinks have to purchased in house. Water bottles only. read more

This place is the dad gum bomb. Part karaoke, part live comedy show, part shot bar, part restaurant. The GM is this tall skinny pale skinned dude named Jonathan. He's always got a friendly grin on and is a freaking superhero with the pours and the cocktail selection. Reko, Dempsey, and the boys are hilarious on the MC duties. The Wong Brothers are often in the house making the rounds greeting everyone and comping shots for the customers who still need liquid courage. The kitchen is stellar too. Open late late. Pan Asian bar food that would be nice in an Izakaya. Service industry folks LOVE this spot--Proof is in the pudding. I love to unbutton my jeans and turn up in this spot. read more

I've been doing karaoke for Several years now. I have gone to plenty of places with karaoke, none can rival this place. If you love the open concept, with a bar, this is the place for you! The No Smoking is perfect, most karaoke bars smoking is allowed, and you'll lose your voice in no time. With a well rounded staff, good song selection, and plenty of seating it's the perfect spot to take a group of friends, large or small, for the karaoke fun! LOVED this place. Clean, fun, very well maintained. Meh. I'm not much of a karaoke guy and my only other experiences with karaoke bars have been Spotlight across town and Sardos (PSK!) in Burbank, California. Never been much of a fan of American Idol and watching wasted people try to recreate this abomination live is just not my thing. My group of 14, made up of karaoke first timers, wanted to go out of our usual comfort zone and check out Glitter so I tagged along. My Caucasian friends were surprised that the stereotype of so many Asians liking karaoke was true, and I joked that I hadn't been around this many Asians in more than a year even though it was dead true. I should have checked with Yelp first so I could have been forewarned about the drama I was about to encounter. Let's do a checklist of previous gripes and rebuttals: 1. The place is small and several empty tables were reserved so there wasn't much room. We all like to stand though so it wasn't an issue, just an observation although a cramped one. 2. We didn't notice a two drink minimum because everyone in the group easily met that and beyond, especially since one of us was buying for everyone. (THANKS T!) However if Amanda thinks that's freeloading for the next point, it really isn't any of the bar's business who's paying as long as it's paid. The bartenders didn't seem to mind that we went to the well frequently and treated us well as a result. 3. Singing queue. Okay there seemed to be no rhyme or reason here. We ordered directly from the bartenders and only three of us were brave enough to want to sing. So I'm not sure how the DJ would know what our spending habits were to establish an order. I don't really have a problem with favouring the spenders and regulars but it definitely makes knowing when your song is coming up completely unpredictable. Two of my friends put in separate requests, one after the other. You would think they would go up one after the other in the queue. Nope. One got to sing 5 minutes after he submitted the request, the other never got to go up in a span of two hours. 4. Oh yeah, the drama. One person in my group was drunk and obnoxious so he got kicked out. The door guy even said he had called the cops after our drunk member left peacefully. We were annoyed so we all left. This place used to be the old Swivel Lounge. It's finally time Midtown got a Karaoke place. The size of this place isn't the biggest, so I can understand if it gets crowded easily. But if you are scared to sing in front of strangers, then bring your own posse to hear/watch you sing. It's better to have friends to laugh at you, than strangers right? So if you don't want to sing in the main stage area, you can always get one of the private rooms. Bring a date, get a room and serenade her. Hopefully she likes your singing. There aren't too many karaoke places around Houston, but the other one I've been to is much larger, but doesn't look as cool. Glitter's lighting adds that special touch. I wish there is more of a food choice and at a lower price. During late night hours in that area, there really isn't anywhere to get food. One of the best things about Glitter, the security they have. Do not let his intimidating looks fool you. If you get a chance to hear him sing, you're in for a treat. So if you go, ask for Mark(not me) to sing a tune. read more

Shots, shots, shots. Drink before you come - you will have a much better time if you are not so uptight. The bartenders are generous with their pours. They have televisions to focus on when a trainwreck is on stage. It is a clean, nicely decorated spot. It is fancier pants on the inside than you would expect from the name and the outside. Think elegant glitter decoration of an RSVP and not kesha/streetwalker/trampy body glitter. I have heard everything from Tupac to ZZ Top here, so its a good mix I suppose. The people and the bouncer are more Washington Strippy than Midtowny, but if you come with a big enough crowd you won't even notice whether it is three or ten tools decked out in their unfortunate Ed Hardy and Afflictions. Glitter Karaoke is a midtown public karaoke bar that draws a big crowd. I came here with a few friends over the holidays solely because it was across the street from Spotlight and didn't have a cover. We came around 11:30 on a Friday and got drinks pretty quickly-- your standard mixed drinks and on the stronger side. Most tables were taken up but seats by the bar aren't hard to come by. Their songlist is only accessible through an app with borderline-unusable UI. You then write your song down on a slip and give it to the DJ. The 4 of us requested probably 6 songs among us. We stayed for about two hours, and only got 2 of them. It was reasonably busy but still, damn. And don't expect an answer from the DJ on if your songs are coming up or just thrown out. Crowd is a real mix of ages and dress code, and even though the songs were completely random everyone was pretty game to either sing along or mind their own business. Vibe-wise it's about as well as it could go for public karaoke. Just unfortunate that you can't really expect to sing your requested songs. read more

We wandered into Glitter Karaoke around Friday 1 a.m. because my DD wanted to sober up and some of my other friends had already be at it, karaoke-ing and whatnot, for an hour or two already. Generally wouldn't venture into a karaoke bar otherwise, something about friends and strangers drunkenly crooning off-key always makes me feel awkward - I'm weird okay! The crowd was pretty sparse at this point, I'm assuming too much drinking and too much singing can really siphon the life out of you. Or maybe there was enthrallment to be had elsewhere? Nonetheless, there was my modest group of friends and others still going strong, vying for the microphones. I didn't partake, but I observed and it's pretty much what you would expect. From what I recall of my one drink - it was pricey and not very strong, but service was quick thanks to the dwindled crowd. I do like that Glitter feels a tad more intimate and welcoming than the few other karaoke bars I've dared to step foot it. It's not quite as "cheesy" as I expected. A popular hangout for many of my friends, Glitter has been a standby in the midtown area for karaoke in a large stage environment. There are frequent food specialty food nights here with a variety of eats featured... last night was Wednesday night steak night and it was a decent ribeye with crawfish backon mac n cheese. Overall, it's a nice hangout spot for a lot of people. Due to the group stage setup, you may want to look elsewhere if you need private rooms to have more control over the song turns. read more

We were going to Spotlight Karaoke when we spotted this place across the street. Spotlight had a $10 cover charge for "us" I'm assuming because I've never been asked for a cover at either of their locations. So... we checked out "glitter" it was a BLAST! We got to sing multiple song ms with a really fun crowd! The drinks were reasonably priced and we had a really fun time! The bartender and DJ were so cool and down to earth! Finally got my karaoke fix and reunited with an old friend and family all at once! Thanks to arriving right around 10pm-ish there were only a handful of people seated and others at the bar. They actually make long islands here BTW and they are yummy! The sound system is great although the song choices are a bit limited. I was surprised that the DJ dude actually suggested some really random songs that I'd normally love to sing, but I was in the mood to actually do since more Top 40 stuff first (ya know, to energize the crowd) but they didn't have certain songs... A BOOK is always a good idea for a karaoke joint. I was also a lil disappointed my song got pushed back and the DJ admitted he didn't put it in yet.... So I thought that was a lil unfair, but as I said i'm glad I got a few songs in earlier anyway! Hope they update the system a bit, but we'll be back- with backup singers!!! :) read more

POP UP Experience Review Time! I've been a fan of Glitter Karaoke for the longest time. The Wong Bros. have got something really great going on here with their awesome bar staff and their superior karaoke experience. But they took what was already great and made it even better by offering the occasional "chef pop up" nights. This gives food lovers a great chance to sample different local chef's experiments and ideas at a great price! Last night the pop up was gourmet tacos! Since I missed my shot at Taco Tuesday this week this was a great chance to make up for it! The barbacoa taco was just perfect! Growing up Mexican American, I knew what a good cut of barbacoa was and they pulled this one off nicely! Juicy meat, not greasy at all, perfectly cooked corn tortillas made from scratch, fresh cilantro and the perfect green salsa to give it that kick that these tacos are known for! I didn't get the chance to sample any other tacos but I loved what I had. They also expanded the club as well so that the private room is more accessible to patrons and I was also glad to see that they are expanding their brews on tap as well as their offerings in bottle. I can never get enough of hanging out and singing along with the crowd and having a good time over delicious food and drinks. This place is one of the things I missed most about Houston and I am happy to see that it's only getting better! read more

This was my first time coming to Glitter Karaoke. Had to walk a couple blocks to avoid paying for parking. Happy I did because it costs a small fortune to drink there. Spent close to $70 for one vodka soda and a bucket of beer. Also be aware that they include gratuity on the bill already. For the high rates they should hire extra help. The place was body to body with only 2 bartenders. Won't be coming back to this establishment. read more

Long over due review .... I love glitter... I frequent glitter every week because it's a great escape from work ... they have all the songs my little heart can desire. They are fair with rotation and even though everyone knows me when it's packed I only get a couple songs in and have to wait as well, part of the karaoke experience is hearing other people sing their favourites too. Great atmosphere, feels like a neighboorhood fav dive but with bomb ass Korean popcorn, steak nights, and huge food menu opened till about 1am. Everyone at Glitter is legit. read more

Glitter is a must whenever anyone comes from out of town and it's a must when we are craving great steaks and beautiful people. Let me first start off by saying I in no way am a regular. Unfortunately it's not as often as it used to be that I can get out of the house. With that being said the times I do manage to stumble into glitter I've always had a great time. From the awesome guy at the door to the awesome guys behind the bar, this place knows how to make you feel at home. The song selection is excellent and the crowd there is usually really cool and doesn't make you feel like you are on The Voice. We have been here once before on the Week day, Thursday. The Thursday DJ was so awesome, but the Saturday DJ was horrible. Very rude and only picks his regulars and favorites to go up stage. My group put our song picks before a lot of the people that came in and they went up before us. When we went up to ask if we were up any time soon the DJ said (with out even looking at us...) "if you gave me your name and song itll be any time from 45 min to an hour" it had been well over that and he got a lot of people that were there after us. My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary and sat for 3.5 hours waiting for a turn before we realized that the DJ was allowing the regulars to jump the line-- going more than once at that. Overall this is a great karaoke joint. Their pop-up food specials are delicious. Diverse crowd and wide variety of songs. The only draw back is the DJ you get. One of them is funny. Polite and works the crowd well. The other is kind of a douche. If he doesn't know you, he will skip your turn. Ignore you when you go to the booth to request a song. But he is super chill with the regulars. All the times I have gone I have felt welcomed. The day the other DJ was there we all felt a difference. Glitter differentiates itself by being a truly interactive place. What I like most about Glitter is that, whether you are alone or with a group, you feel included in the fun going on around you. The DJs are personable, which is really important for me, and the bartenders are knowledgeable and patient when you don't know what you want. They have private rooms of varying sizes, pop-up chefs on occasion, and plenty of regulars to keep the party going. The squad was like, "What we tryna get into tonight". Somebody piped up, "Steak Night @ Glitter" Steak Night? Intriguing concept *strokes beard* This spot is Downtown, in what used to be? might still be? Little Vietnam. Parking was fine on a Wednesday night @ 9 pm when I rolled up. Decor - it's a bar/club/karaoke spot. So they had a grip of tables and some places to stand by the sides, and what looks to be a S.W.I.P area (some what important). For an old schooler like myself they had FREE SFII Championship Edition. Fierce on the 1st player side doesn't work, but I was channeling my HS hooligan self that would travel to Stop n Go's to challenge locals. (oh yeah, I got bodied by some folks there though) Service - Sally was our one of our waitresses, and twisted my arm into drinking a couple of Asahi's and some Yamakazi. Being a light weight @ the alcohol game, let's just say my productivity wasn't tops the next morning. *salute to Sally*. The owner/manager dudes hit me up as I was milling about. Made me feel right at home. Reminded me of my fave karaoke spot in the Apple. Karaoke - Houston has a lot of good singers. The selections skewed towards 80's New Wave/Brit Pop. Think "Living in Oblivion", "Boy's Don't Cry"...but I heard a fair amount of Alicia Keys, Stone Temple Pilots, and my personal favorite Lynyrd Skynrd song, Simple Man. I didn't partake in busting any tones or flows, but it seemed welcoming enough. Crowd - Like Houston, it was pretty awesome. Young folks, older folks, cats from all parts of the city. Young ladies were dressed nicely (although I did see some Lena Dunham inspired rompers), and the fellas were looking spiffy. I'm still rocking the early 00's uniform - dress shirt and jeans, so I prolly need to step my game up But let's talk Steak! Came with some garlic mashed potatoes, a tad rustic (read as a few lumps - which I tend to like, but I know how Yelper's can be). The salad was greens and grape tomatoes dressed with something vaguely sweet. I ordered my Steak Medium Rare, and the steak I got had the texture, temperature, and tenderness that corresponds with medium rare - but I didn't break out the chromatograph to get a full color reading. So it was cooked properly. The most surprising thing about the steak was the seasoning. I don't know if they went with a light Chimichurri, or a seasoned herb butter - but I haven't had a steak this good in a bit. And throw in the price point, might have been the best steak for the money in the past couple of years. Not saying you're gonna like it as much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Dope spot.
