Bartender never came back to check on me, I was definitely looking to spend more money, drink, and tip on top of that. I was sadly ignored while she offered Everyone at the bar pizza and her regulars, while I couldn't order anything because I was ignored. I've been living in the neighborhood for about 13 years now. The service is very hit or miss with the female staff unfortunately. When I do come the guys give better service, and more attention to detail. I have been in the hospitality field the last 17 years. I read about this gem in The Houston Press and had to check it out. It's a cute and quaint bar frequented by regulars who have been coming here for many years. This place is so unassuming because it's located in a sketchy neighborhood. We started with an ice cold Corona served by the friendly bartender, Kara, with a K. We met a new friend named Jojo who has been coming here for years and gave us the low down about the bar. This is Houston's best kept secret. When the Astros play, they serve $2 hamburgers, we got 3, they were homemade and so delicious! We also had the Monte Cristo sandwich and it was amazing. We had so much fun visiting this bar and plan on coming back. The ambiance was lively, lots of people talking, laughing and having fun. They have pool tables and games that you can enjoy. I visited Shamrock with my boyfriend and upon our arrival, we thought the place was permanently closed due to the lack of curb appeal. I'm THRILLED that we decided to pull on a couple of doors. Shamrock is truly a "hidden gem." The atmosphere is incredibly inviting and the food is absolutely delicious. The handmade guacamole is the only guacamole that I have ever enjoyed, the hot wings were tasty and not too spicy and the long island iced teas were a very generous size. Two pool tables available at $1.00 per game, jukebox & darts. Yayyy!! You can sit at the bar, or at a 4-person table, or lounge by the pool tables. What I immediately noticed was close to half of the patrons were eating...people clearly come here not only for the drinks, but for the food! Me being the Irish-girl loyalist...I ordered the Reuben and fries! It was really good and the price was nice..$7 if I'm not mistaken. I would order it again. I believe they had a special that Friday also for a Fish & Chips platter for $7.00. Our waitress/bartender told us that on Sundays, hot dogs are served for only $1, and cheeseburgers for $2. The bartender was horrible I had to constantly ask for refills(she wouldn't ask) second the food was very salty, I ordered the Alfredo pasta, tasted like nothing but salt. My friend got the philly cheese steak, meat was salty as well, I complained to waitress and all she did was nod her head and said "that's why I asked earlier" and there she saw the plate of pasta full and still charged me.
