I had assumed that it would be too expensive, and that it would not be competitive with Home Depot, Lowes, etc.. I could not have been more wrong. They had gorgeous tiles, huge selection and many items were in stock and on sale. The tile I selected was actually significantly less than similar tiles that I had looked at Home Depot and Menards. What made the experience even better was the excellent customer care. Rhonda was amazing. She was so patient, knowledgeable, and led me to the perfect tile for our project. I am looking forward to working with them again for our next remodel. Incredible selection, great value, and superb staff.

We shopped at several local tile shops always feeling like the staff didn't care about customers at all. Then we walked in to St. Louis Tile in Ballwin. Tommy the manager is awesome, he knows his product and his staff is trained in customer service that you will be amazed by. Needless to say we are thrilled we stopped by that day to see what they offered and won't bother with any other "tile shops" going forward. Do yourself a favor and stop in you'll be so happy you did!

It seems like this company spends more time putting out fires than doing good, professional work…read more I don't mean the actual workmanship, that's decent, when it actually gets done. My elderly mother hired this company to do a kitchen remodel. After 7 months, she finally decided to bring in an attorney and H.I.S. is now being referred to the MO Attorney General for suit for defrauding the elderly. Most of the communication from this company was excuses, lies, and empty promises. How many times does a professional contractor have to meet with a family to get a job done? Isn't there a process that is generally followed, including proper estimates and list of supplies needed, an estimated timeline, and ordering supplies in a timely manner? My elderly mother dealt with miscommunication about job specifics, incorrect supply orders that HIS claimed my mother would have to pay for. The workers seemed to be playing a game of telephone, because no one really seemed to know what the plan was. They were doing what they thought should be done, instead of having a clearly written plan. Then when they made a mistake, my mother was supposed to pay to fix it. That is unethical. My elderly mother lived in her house without a working kitchen for over 3 months. The project manager and the president came to her house on several occasions to iron out the details, and still there were delays and excuses. The PM even yelled at my mother saying she was trying to get a more expensive kitchen at a reduced price. There were several times that the PM implied that my mother was lying about what was originally planned. But after reviewing the plan, scribbles on a legal pad, he agreed that she was right. Why wouldn't she be? She knows what she asked for and what she wanted. The longest workday for any subcontractor working was 4 hours. Sometimes there would be weeks that she would not hear from anyone and no one showed up to work. She was led to believe from the beginning that once a job started, it would be worked on exclusively, and that the job would not start until all special orders were ready to be installed. Seven months later, we still need to order a cabinet. The stress has been severe for my elderly mother. She has had to talk to her doctor about anti-anxiety medication and even had to leave home for a week to recover. We know that my mother will not get any of her money back (almost $40,000), but we hope that they will go out of business and not be able to defraud anyone else.

I was under the impression that these were direct employees of his, his crew. Basically he was acting as a general contractor that hired another company or hired some people looking for work. Not really sure here. I realize I made some changes, but they were clear and written in a revised proposal. I didn't want the doors painted, then I got a phone call that they were painted. Sure, he didn't charge me for this, but that is proper after all. I didn't want the trim painted, and paid for that, because I missed it in the proposal. My fault. They also painted the hardware for opening/closing the windows, those were metal and need the proper paint, I did have them take that off. The house didn't have flooring in, so I was asked about drop cloths, I said use them but don't worry too much about a few paint splatters. However, I did indicate that I wasn't removing the slate flooring and to be careful. Here is a big fail, many paint spots. He tried to have them clean it up. Now the floor is sticky, you can here the soles of your shoes and feel it too. He tried cleaning that up, when it wasn't done, he offered to do it again. I really felt he had done enough. I'm still trying to find a way to clean this up, because it's sticky any dust or what not sticks to it. It's really upsetting, as I loved this detail. I will look to bring in some professionals and see what this will set me back. There's also spots on the bathroom floors, which were also said that I wasn't removing. And those doors that were painted, they weren't dry and were closed, now that paint has popped off, so I have to touch that up, or maybe just start replacing doors. I realize also this review is a year since the work was done, I was in the middle of doing the rest of the work this last year. I almost considered them for doing the kitchen rehab. I really feel I dodged a bullet there. Noah, is a nice man, I think his intentions are good. However, the whole interior project was a mess, left me very frustrated, and I have projects left to do because of it. I don't think he checked up on the work as it was being done, and I don't think he looked at it after until I contacted him. Paint shouldn't have been on that slate, nor should you stick to your floor. I also had to point on paint spots on light fixtures, that should've been cleaned. Just no.

I called STL Design and Build Design, setup an appointment as my last resort. STL Design sent Tom Levinson. Mr. Levinson arrived earlier than time with his assistant. This is definitely a rare. We went through the areas for remodeling. Tom sat me down and listen to all I wanted to do. Then it came down to the details and pricing. The wants an can't live without. The more disappointing aspect is that those quality issues were noticeable during the contracted installation yet the installation crew proceeded as quickly as possible with assurance from XL that the issues would be resolved by the manufacturer through the warranty process. Nearly two years later, I'm still working through those quality issues. You can get a value in price but pay attention to the commercial terms and require that a defective-free installation be a requirement before final payment.

The first set are Anderson, which were installed during a major renovation - they went in perfectly. The second set I purchased separately - they are Marvin windows and obviously look amazing. (These two purchases/installs were NOT through XL). In this case, we went back and forth on which brand I should get, based on detail and the quality of window I desired. I took a day off in order for them to measure. I took another day off when they came to install. EVERY single window was way off. I called XL and they said 'let them install the rest and see what happens'. All of the grids were off - nothing lined up, one was cracked, and a few had scratches on the frames. I can speak as to how I don't understand why they would be 'off' because I've replaced every other window in my house by this point. I called several times and then eventually called the manufacturer. The office manager at XL didn't call me back so when I made the final call, it was the owner. He expressed that it 'wasn't a big deal'. Well to me it is. Time is money. I had ordered shutters for the large windows and this also caused a delay in that process. XL stated there was no way they could hve known these windows would be 'off'. Really? Every single one of them. So I waited. By now, it's cold. So the new windows come in and I have to keep my house open to the elements the entire time. Sashes on these are jacked up, as well. Finally, a woman from the office shows up, presumably because, and I quote 'I'm a woman, so I'm picky too'. Really? I'm picky because I don't want screwed up windows? Okay. So we spend half the day pulling sashes in and out to get ones that aren't obviously crooked and messed up. In the end, there is one window that's just not going to work. Keep in mind, I took another day off work. At no time, did the owner call and speak to me about these fiascos. Last week, I have to take another day off to get the last window. There are some scratches on a few, but at this point I'm just done with all of it. So I get the remainder of the bill - no discount - just a short note that says - sorry for the inconvenience. I would NEVER purchase anything from this company ever again. They wasted so much of my time. This is in stark contrast to a mixup that occurred with my shutters. In that case, the dealer was the FIRST person to call me and apologize. XL could learn a few things from a company like that. Beware of XL - clearly, the owner thinks highly of himself and way too highly to actually give a d@$n about his customers.
