My friends took me here to celebrate an early birthday. It was just the 3 of us and we walked in. The staff explained to us how it worked, walked us to each station and explained all of the steps. You would choose your mold (each priced differenty depending on size and shape), little wax shapes to add into your mold and scents. We were seated and we were given a tray to put our items we wanted for our candle. Once you are done with choosing your items, you would walk your tray up to the counter to let them know. We were told to go back to our table and a staff member will come by to explain the next step. FYI, you would pay for everything at the end because they need to add up the different prices (such as which candle mold) and other fees. Apparently there is a sitting fee? FYI, it takes about two days until you can pick up your finished candle. However, you can pay a fee to have it expedited to pick up day of. The team talks you through what to expect, what you'll need and how to get started on making your own personal candle. Our package included ant candles under $19 and if you pick a larger candle, you can simply pay the difference. My boyfriend and I chose a yin yang candle which ended up being around $53 with their Tuesday deal (half off studio fee for 2 people). We liked how the yin and yang breaks into two separate candles! I enjoyed the whole process, from choosing the candle shape, the colors and decorations, the scents, and cutting the blocks to fill the candle. They suggested the process would take a little over 30-45 minutes, but time went by so fast for us we ended up spending about 1.5 hours. I've been here once before and enjoyed the experience. It was my birthday and I thought it would be fun to make a candle with my family! We were greeted and sat right away. The associate gave us a run down of the process and how to pick out our stencils, colors, scents and any extras. They have a lot of colors and different shapes and scents to choose from so it can be a little overwhelming so giving us the guidance was very helpful! I opted for a flower and wanted to do a summer type candle while my mom and sister chose a heart and star shape. When we were done cutting up our wax pieces we took our candles to the front where they added our scent and glitter which we all wanted. A very cute place and love the business idea. Their service is also very good and friendly; they are patient in explaining what we need to do step by step. You first pick a mold and they set out the candle size with price tag, then you pick the small wax pieces with shapes to use to glue to the side of the candle, whether inside or outside. (They'll help you glue to the outside if you tell them). And you pick the color of the inside filling, they are bigger square pieces, and you'll use their tools to cut them into smaller pieces, break them apart and fill in the middle of the mold. There are also a ton of small cute decoration pieces to choose to add to the top of the candle. Once you finished filling in the candle and gluing the sides, you can pick a scent and then take it to the assistants. They will pour hot wax to the inside of the mold to hold all small pieces together. They will also add essence based on your choice and also go through the candle top decoration ideas including where to position the little pieces and adding sparkles. It takes a day to finish the candle and pick up is next day or as late as 30 days after. This is a great idea to a hand made gift or just some bonding time doing arts. The studio fee is $14 per adult and $12 per kid. Then the candle is depending on size and decoration options. read more

After spending hours to figure out what to do for Galentine's, we ended up with candle making as our top choice. I parked in the structure nearby Jamba Juice because street parking was so difficult for a Saturday's late afternoon. We walked in with no reservation after calling in to check if it's not too crowded. The staff was very friendly walking us through the process. Everything was quite straight forward. I didn't expect how much of manual labor we had to put in to cutting the wax haha that was fun but tiring as well. We spent probably 3-4 hrs at this place. What took us a long time were to select the candle shape, the decoration, color theme, and smell. We spent a lot of time cutting the wax into cubes. The total cost of my star candle turned out to be $48 with tip. I made a reservation for 2 people on a Sunday to start at the time they open (11AM). I love that there's a free parking garage right next to the Jamba Juice. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the staff, put our stuff down at our reserved table, and they walked us through the process explaining everything in detail. If you've ever been to Petroglyph (their sister ceramic painting studio), it's essentially the same concept. There's a $14 studio fee which is the price you pay to use the studio and all of the supplies (including unlimited wax tiles and shapes). Then, you choose what candle shape you want to make, and you can make as many as you want the whole time you're there. Each type of candle has their own price, so keep that in mind. It's very reasonable in my opinion since it's fully customizable (candle shape, wax color, wax shapes, wax filling, scent, and toppers) and such a fun activity to do with friends or family. There were people of all ages making candles and a kid's birthday party the day we went. I love that you can bring in your own food and drinks! We brought boba and pastries with us and it was a good time! My friend and I each made one big candle for ourselves and a small one to give to each other. My favorite parts were cutting up the wax tiles and decorating the sides with their fun shapes. Very therapeutic and relaxing. When you're done filling your candle mold with the cut up wax, you bring it to the counter where the staff will add in your chosen scent and pour in the hot wax filling. If you wanted to add any extra toppers, let them know. We did without them. Our candles were ready for pick up the next day and they turned out so cute! Wanted to do something relaxing and fun Sunday while Visiting family in San Jose. We have made candles before in another area so thought to do it again. Found Glow on Yelp good reviews so gave it a try. Called ahead of time and were told come on in it was not busy. It was fairly busy when we arrived No big thing but the person helping us was very rushed and rushed us through the explanation And Tour. We had to wait as the only two Employees were trying to help others in different stages of the process. Bottom line was one type of candle has a 15.00 studio fee which was not explained to us nor was it written in anything we were given. There are lots of add on for a price which were clearly posted. Prices here were high in my opinion especially because there was really no Experience. There were three of us one person decided it was not worth the money and it was way to hectic in there that they put their candle back. Sierra an employee that was at Lunch came Back and I Spoke With her about our concerns. She was very apologetic and called the manager via telephone who subsequently authorized her to refund the studio fee which I was told was for the prep work done for the wax components of a certain candle to be made by the employees. In the photos you see squares of wax that's apparently what the extra fee is for that's what I Was told. Again we have done this before in a different city and it was such an awesome experience. We learned, mixed, heated our own soy wax, made labels, set the wicks and experienced many scents talked about them and the different ways to pair scents. It was a lovely interactive experience. Here we stood in a line and they Poured the wax in for the one type of candle for the soy you pour it but you don't prep it or melt it. It was more of an assembly line. Not at all an experience. This may be something that works for kids. We were very disappointed. We had asked for the bathroom to be supplied with toilet paper and waited 1/2 hr but still it was not stocked until Sierra returned and I asked her. It was a little confusing walking in because there were a couple of children's birthday parties going on and we were unsure if they had space for us. Thankfully they did, but I recommend making a reservation on the weekends just in case. An associate walked us through the pricing, candle shapes, accessories, and scents selections. We were given time to select all the options we wanted and sat down. It took a bit of time for someone to come and explain how to build the candle, but everyone was very nice and informative. I feel like I paid so much only for little to no candle making experience... We came in and there was a sign saying talk to an associate to be sat down, we talk to a worker and they said there might not be enough tables and to give info and they'll call in 30 min. (There were a lot of vacant tables) We wait in the car for 40 min and no one calls so we go back into the shop only to STILL see so many empty tables. Only then did the same worker ask us if we wanted to make candles as if she didn't ask for my number earlier to call us when there's space... She explains that there's a $19 service fee when we make a candle using a mold. Molds are already on average $20+. Then if we want to take it home same day we need to pay $5 fee. If we make a candle using a vessel (aka cup etc) there's no service fee and we only pay for container. So we go that route and each cup is like $30-45. We thought it would be an experience where we could sit down and do it but when we said we were ready she brought us to a counter where we were standing and then all we did was mix our chosen scent into one color, pour it into container with wick and wax and that's it. It took like less than 10 minutes. Then we thought we'd wait for it to cool and then decorate the top, but then she said we had to come back TOMORROW which she didn't mention earlier. Not once was it disclosed that we'd have to come the next day to finish making the candle, I was also with a friend that came from out of town and had to leave the next day. We were told they hold onto our candles for a month but I would've liked to know before we even started making it. Then next day we come in and we think they'll reheat the top and we can sit and decorate it but another worker at the counter just asks us how we want our decorations placed and they'll be the ones doing it themselves... Like I get maybe it's a hazard with hot wax on top so you don't want customers getting burned but we felt so rushed decorating it and she was just standing there staring at us waiting for us to decide placement. The entire experience felt rushed and basically "finish and get out" (this process took MAX another 10 min) Like I just got my candle back and I haven't even had 2 minutes with it and I had to decide how I wanted to decorate it right then and there. In total for 2 candles was $84 and we didn't even use the other charms provided which are like $2-7 each. It was soooo expensive for little to no experience. read more

The staff were nice to guide us on the process and my daughter had a ton of fun. I also love that they have pre-cut colors (although less color options) to make it easier for the kids since cutting the wax itself can be challenging and a process in itself. We ended up paying over $80 for 2 candles, but YMMV It was definitely a nice activity that encourages creativity, and we were able to hang out and have conversations and work on our candles together. My daughters candle came out great and she was so proud of herself since this was her first time. Definitely wouldn't recommend for anyone younger than 7 unless you're there to really help them for their whole candle. I helped her make sure her letter pips were placed correctly but she did everything else herself. A few things that were not clear to me based on their website: - You cannot do same day reservations - If you create your candle in the afternoon, the 1hr expedited pick up option for an additional fee is not available (they told us it was too late even though we were done by 5:30pm and they close at 8pm) We had to return the next day to pick up our candles.
