worth 5 Michelin stars....I'm a winemaker (Villa Milagro Vineyards) so I "got" tastebuds! And they have NEVER been more indulged than last night at Gnocchi. Everything about this small gem of a restaurant screams FANTASTIC! We were greeted like family by staff sitting outside in the heat of this 4th of July weekend. Invited in, we ordered a simple house salad to start. Nothing about it was simple except that it was simply THE best house salad we ever had. The usual mixed green - but laced with cucumbers thinly sliced and rolled to look like garnish; tiny croutons (really about 1/8inch squares) that gave great crunch without overpowering the salad, shaved carrots and bite size yellow tomatoes sweet like candy. Then the dressing! Light, perfectly balanced with no one element overpowering any other. Next, we had mussels for which we requested the hottest sauce. Not one was overcooked or rubbery. Each was so delicate and fresh that it melted in your mouth. And the marinara!!!!! We were grateful for the perfectly toasted pieces of Italian bread to soak it up as we wiped down the bowl to get the last drops. For our mains, I had the Boursin gnocchi in an alfredo sauce. To begin, I love Boursin - its delicate blend of spices combined to create its own flavor profile. Covered in Gnocchi's velvety alfredo, it was an exquisite explosion of subtleness that left you wanting more as you wondered how could something so simple make you crave more. My daughter's salmon was served with roasted brussels sprouts in a corn reduction. Her comment - I have never had salmon cooked to such perfection that the texture melts in your mouth. And that corn reduction? A kind of "down-home" goodness of the best southern creamed corn you have ever tasted. Every dish we had at Gnocchi had layer upon layer of flavor melded like a fine aged red wine. And best of all was our chance to chat with owners Maria and Ryan. Maria is one of the MOST welcoming people ever created. She oozes love and hospitality. And Chef Ryan! This guy would make any Iron Chef tremble - both from fear of losing to him and anticipation to taste his creations. You want a 4 star experience in a laid back, homey atmosphere......go to Gnocchi. We were a table of 10. Long time customers. We had no idea they changed hands. Greeting and table were great. Unfortunately, 7 out of 10 main courses were incorrect. They served everyone who ordered gnocchi ala vodka, fra diablo instead. They insisted it was ala vodka. They then replaced them with Alfredo. What upsets me is the fact that they tried to tell us the fra diablo was, in fact, ala vodka. After all of us being more than patient, they refused to own their mistakes and couldn't be accommodating in any way. Come on people now! Bring back the chef table and Mossimo! Since this restaurant does not want to take ownership for the mistakes they made, I will also make a post about my experience. 10 of us dined there on Saturday evening, and we were welcomed in right away and promptly greeted by the server, and our bottles of wine were opened, all fantastic. We discovered they are changing the menu, and no longer offer the tasting menu, disappointing but we moved on. We ordered several apps which were good, but that's where the ball dropped. 4 of us ordered gnocchi Ala vodka, 2 with meatballs, 2 with shrimp, 1 person fra divalo, 1 linguini Alfredo, 1 veal Parmesan, 2 gnocchi Alfredo, and 1 gnocchi scampi. It started out with our food all coming out at different times, I am talking large gaps of 5 minutes with 2 dishes at a time coming out at time, which is unfortunate because we would've liked to all have eaten at the same time but we were patient and understood things happen. I was one of the patrons who most certainly ordered gnocchi Ala vodka NOT gnocchi fra diavlo, It was so spicy I could not eat it. My husband also ordered gnocchi Ala vodka, which was also spicy and his gnocchi was much softer than mine. The 3rd who ordered didn't even get gnocchi was given penne Ala vodka which was not what she ordered. The 4th person to order gnocchi Ala vodka her sauce looked COMPLETELY different from my dish, we ordered the same thing. We were told twice that her dish was correct, turns out it was not. As the 4 of us all discovered how spicy the dish was we asked if it could be replaced with a different sauce which the manager obliged to. However the dishes we ordered were supposed to have shrimp and they did not, which at that point we just wanted to eat a hot meal so we ate. 2 of the dishes were salty, and the other 2 were very garlicky which was better than salty. Two of the dishes gnocchi were soft and pillowy as you would expect gnocchi to be the other 2 and the gnocchi scampi were not and very chewy. My one friend had something RED floating in her soda, last time I checked ice is not red, but who am I ? At this point we just wanted to pay for our meal and leave. We asked for the check and server brought it to us and we were overcharged. We were charged for 2 bruschetta when we only ordered 1, and we were charged for 2 orders of shrimp additions when we never received them. Also, the sauces are different prices as well but we didn't bother disputing that. After we told the server we were over charged she said she wasn't sure what the manager had done with our meals and realized the check was probably not right, she also said she forgot to add the sodas. So after 4 of the 10 meals being wrong, inconsistent taste/food, inconsistent timing of dishes coming out, things floating in someone's drink, being charged a corking fee that was not disclosed, and being overcharged, all brought to the managers attention, the restaurant still wanted more. The corking fee we were charged was not supposed to go into effect until 6/10/2026 according to their new menu they showed us an example of. The corking fee has never been in existence before this and was NOT on the menu we used for Saturday. I have never been so flabbergasted by an experience in my life. We were accommodated in the sense of our dishes being replaced with missing protein still and inconsistent flavor and textures, and that's about it. When a friend tried to leave a honest review of our experience the restaurant shot her entire review down and pretty much said our stories don't match to her staffs and their POS receipt, why not just call her a liar flat out and move on? The POS receipt does not match because we had to ask to have changed to the correct amount, something we shouldn't have had to do. Unfortunately this has completely ruined our experience and we will not patron again of Gnocchi and we will be sure to share our experience with others so they do not experience the same disappointing outcome. The new management/owner may have took over the name Gnocchi but they most certainly did not take over the same wonderful experience it USED to be. They will not be in business long continuing to do things this way. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more

The service and food were absolutely excellent from start to finish. We tried the penne vodka, gnocchi shrimp scampi, shrimp fra diavolo, penne marinara, and the portobello mushroom appetizer--which was especially amazing. A bunch of us ordered gnocchi ala vodka and it tasted like they dumped an entire bottle of red pepper flakes in it. So we switched our order to gnocchi Alfredo. Which was good but each one of our dishes tasted different even though it was the same dish. Originally I was given the wrong dish and was told no it was correct. Eventually it was figured out they made my finances dish twice and tried to give me one. The waitress came back and said sorry thought I was right. My one friend ordered gnocchi Ala Vodka and she got a completely wrong pasta. A bunch of us did not get the protein we asked for with our pasta. My friend had things floating in her soda. We were charged for an extra app we did not order. We were also charged for the proteins we did not receive. I was highly disappointed with the overall service and food of this restaurant. CASH ONLY RESTAURANT. Take note, y'all, because I did not. I'm pretty sure all of their pasta and such is made in-house, so you really can't beat that. It's a wood-y vibe that makes it feel cozy, and it says "gnocchi" in very large letters on the wall (my sisters and I had a great time trying to figure out of the 'g' in 'gnocchi' was a very fancy capitalized G or a very large in size lowercase g). The stars for us were the meatball appetizer and the mushroom ravioli. The meatballs were just made of good meat, were tender, and the sauce added the best flavor to them. The mushroom ravioli came highly recommended by our water and for good reason. The mushroom flavor was strong, and the raviolis were FRESH. I got the pacheri, and though it was good, I didn't think it was amazing. It felt like a dish with a lot of elements that were just thrown together rather than something cohesive. And since this place is called gnocchi, we HAD to try it. It was mostly good, but the texture of the gnocchi were inconsistent. Some were the perfect bite, but some were much harder than they should have been. The service is the type of service where they treat you like family in that borderline uncomfortable way because even though they treat you like family they're not actually family. So for example, one waiter took my dad's phone to take a photo and he was like "Oh no, your girlfriend's calling!" when my mom was sitting right there. Love that it was open late though! This is an incredible little cash only, BYOB place. Soft lighting, intimate tables they aren't too close together. We had excellent service from the whole staff on a night without a reservation. The menu is a manageable size with a decent amount of options but there were so many daily specials too. We started with the special app - burrata with tomato and fresh basil, omg so good with bread. My party got two special entrees and the chicken parm. The portion of pasta was huge and they gave him a hunk of chicken! The sauce was super good and you could tell it was made there. This is my fourth time at Gnocchi Philly. And I live in Miami! But it's now become a thing -every time I fly up to see my partner, we drop into this most charmingly authentic and relaxed eatery on Passyunk. That's probably enough review for most. But, if you're unsatisfied, please, be my guest... We originally stumbled into it by accident one night as we strolled down South Street. We mapped Italian into the iPhone and decided to walk up to check it out. I don't hate to admit this, but aside from reading reviews, I tend to judge a book by its cover, and rightfully so. We were immediately taken by its laid back, informal vibe and pseudo shabby chic atmosphere that felt like a mom and pop dining house off the beaten path in Salerno. They took us without a reservation and advised us of their cash only and bring your own bottle policy. Their menu was relatively small, something we could both appreciate as this is usually a sign of a restaurant that knows who they are and what they do best. And the prices were on the more than reasonable side of reasonable. Our dining experience was so unexpectedly pleasant that we vowed to return to see if perhaps it had been just a one night love affair. I'm delighted to report that It was not. To this day, we've not sampled anything on the menu that could pass for average, except perhaps the bread basket (more on this in a minute). Although I crave change, I am also a creature of habit. And so, my first three visits found me ordering the lobster ravioli. Clearly, this is an item I recommend. The meatball appetizer and the creamy burrata appetizer with its salty prosciutto and sweet tomatoes are also fantastic. The mushroom appetizer is another winner. And just when you think it couldn't get any deliciouser (because I just made that a word), boom! Out comes a limoncello cake that you'd swear was baked in Amalfi and floated right into the Gnocchi kitchen. If you don't enjoy this light but luscious dessert, please seek immediate medical assistance - your taste buds are suffering from a terminal case of riggermortis. This last time, we decided to have a "little get together" with a few friends from South Florida who also flew up and a couple from the Jersey Shore who drove down. This time, I broke the mold - I finally ordered a dish I'd had my eye on, the Flounder Franchaise. Wow! I kick myself for not having dived into different waters of the menu earlier. My appetizer this time was the steamed mussels in the red spicy sauce. Again, so on point! However, my Jersey buddy had the mussels in the white sauce. Remember the one solitary "average" item, the bread basket I mentioned? You try dunking that bread in that white sauce just once and tell me if you don't walk away from the evening with an I-just-got-orally-laid grin and a referral to the Betty Ford clinic for a briny yeast addiction. The place can lean towards the boisterous side, particularly when larger groups, like ours, are seated. So if that's not your scene, you may want to think twice, but I would still come out at least once for the food. The staff is terrific - attentive and accommodating, but can be fun and spicy if you're in that kind of vibe. As I mentioned, they are BYOB, so feel free to bring your favorite bottle of wine, whiskey or six pack of Old Milwaukee. We had an excellent dining experience at Gnocchi! We had a 5 PM reservation since we have a toddler who can't hang with the later crowds. It started to fill up by the time we were leaving and it seems they are able to accommodate larger parties. The food was excellent and our server was attentive, helpful and kind. We started with the burrata with sweet tomatoes and red peppers, pickled green beans, olives and beef pepperoni - we loved every bite. Next came the entrees - ricotta gnocchi with a blush sauce (light, fluffy goodness), beef meatballs with linguini, and the fusilli with a lamb ragu. We over ordered with the intention of being able to bring food home, and were so glad we did! Don't skip out on the desserts - we had the limoncello cake (light and delicious) and tiramisu - also a hit. We learned the hard way that Philly is a city who loves reservations. So after having difficulty finding a spot the night before, we made reservations for here early. Charming and in a wonderful location, Gnocchi is warming and cordial. And the food resonates with such. I got to speak in Italian with our waiter which is always fun for me and a good sign that if an Italian will eat/work here, then you should pay attention to it. I ordered the linguine con vongole, but our table started with the burrata and also the basket of bread they put on our table. We had also brought our own wine. In addition, the restaurant is cash only. My linguine with clams was simply delicious, but what really made the night was the singer who quieted down the restaurant every so often with some beautiful opera. Now, that's amore. If I could give this place more than five stars I would! We had a great dinner planned with friends and we're able to make a reservation for a Saturday night. From the minute we walked in we felt welcome. We went with the chefs tasting which was $50 pp which included two salads, several sides, gnocci and an entree. Oh and of course...DESSERT! I loved the servers and everyone coming around to make sure we were doing ok. I got the potato gnocchi with marinara and basil. It was so good. But I will say it lacked a little bit of flavor. My friend thought it was just perfect. It was a WONDERFUL meal. But I guess I wish there were more sauce options for the potato gnocchi. Plain marinara doesn't quite hit the spot for me. My boyfriend got the fusilli with lamb ragu. He said it did not meet expectations but was really good all in all. We just weren't totally blown away. We ordered the burrata for an appetizer that had two pieces which they conveniently cut into halves for our party of four to share. It was so yummy! For the entree - three of us shared the spinach gnocchi in blush sauce (soooo good!), eggplant rollatini (also amazing! And came with a side of their classic gnocchi in tomato basil sauce which I thought was ok, but nothing compares after that blush sauce! And it came with this side of purple veggie and onions which I thought was a good complement to all the heaviness of the pasta), and the crab and lobster ravioli in blush sauce (also amazing). Seriously, their blush sauce is sooo good you'll just want to drink it right up! I didn't have the tiramisu, but my God did it look phenomenal?! They had an easy to read menu that had a variety of good options but our waitress was able to tell us about 15 other specials that were not on the menu. It would have been nice if they had an extra print off menu with these temporary items but she repeated for us when we had Questions. I tried the chicken parm and the chicken franceses, both which were very fresh, flavorful, soft and delicious. Cooked perfectly. The dishes are all served with a vegetable and with classic gnocci in a red sauce. All delicious. The food took a while to cook but we were given bread prior to the meal. The restaurant is BYOB. At the end of our meal the owner brought us a tiramisu on the house with fresh grapes over ice which was the best tiramisu I've had in my life!!!! It was so kind. The staff was so nice and we spent a good amount of time talking to them. They invited us to come again. Overall it was a lovely dinner and I would highly recommend. We will definitely return.
