We went for our anniversary. We were seated next to a glass wall looking into their kitchen / seafood area. It was a unique setting. Our server Lawrence started out great. Attentive. We ordered salads, steak, pork chops, mashed potatoes, corn, and a bottle of overpriced Caymus wine. Hubby liked his pork chops, my filet was ok. The sides were delish!!! They also were very kind in offering us a comp dessert for our anniversary which we got to pick. Typically restaurants just bring out whatever dessert they want so I appreciated that we got to choose. We chose a vanilla Carmel cake. It was good but we were also so stuffed! Minus 2 stars - as the end of the night, our server disappeared & when he did reappear, I could never get his attention to get the bill. I flagged someone else down but they just shrugged. It took me putting my jacket on (& 20 extra mins) to get Lawrence's attention. Also, it was close to the end of the night as we were wrapping up - maybe 9:30ish. There were still PLENTY of guests eating dinner, and the workers started breaking down tables in our section, moving things around, replacing large tables for smaller ones, etc. We're trying to have a nice (expensive!) dinner & workers are cleaning up around us. I came to steak 48 for my birthday this previous Saturday and it was such a lovely experience. Shannon was our server and she was so well versed on the menu and could give us the perfect descriptions and recommendations. I was also handed a card for my birthday which was very kind. The tables were set so nicely and they would come around and clean off excess crumbs if there were any. We felt the service was very attentive and we were never left needing anything. We started off with something to drink. I got an espresso martini which was not too sweet and perfect and my partner had a glass of makers mark. The bread we ordered the half and half and it was so soft. The seafood tower was also so fresh and delicious. It comes with 6 sauces but our favorite was the horseradish. The steak itself I got the petite filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. We felt the asparagus and potatoes were nothing special but they were also good. For my birthday they gave us a free dessert of my choice and I got the chocolate bomb. It was like a giant ferrero rocher and I liked the mousse inside. I absolutely loved the Sea Bass!!!! It was the highlight of the evening. The steak was a bit over cooked and tough to say it was supposed to be medium well. The lobster rolls were ravishing. Very nice restaurant, walkable from multiple hotels in downtown Philadelphia. Entrance was not very well marked but we figured it out. Service was great, the server knew the menu well and was super nice. The restaurant called us the day after the reservation to make sure that the experience was good, which we've never had before and thought was nice. Food was very good, but I felt that the prices were a bit high for the taste. We did however enjoy the sizzle plates (the plates came out piping hot, I think they put them in the oven), they kept the food hot for the entire meal. Also the autogratuity was a bit pricey, the service was good and I absolutely intended on tipping, but I like to tip on my own accord. Not the biggest deal because I would have tipped similarly anyways but autogratuity is always something to be aware of. read more

My wife and I were blown away when we first came here and we have been back twice since. The restaurant is gorgeous, especially the private booths for 4. The service is as good as it gets. The staff is so inviting and accommodating. The apps we really liked were the calamari and hanging bacon. The wedge salad is delicious. One thing that turned me off, as I said the food was excellent, was when the waiter brought the bill, he said he added the gratuity for my convenience, which put me off a lot. We had a party of 3. If you going to add the gratuity it should be mentioned on the menu. I took it to mean either he thought we were going to stiff him or I was to stupid to figure it out. Unfortunately for him he hurt himself. The meal was so good I would have left more than the number he calculated for my convenience. I ran this by a few friends before I wrote this review and they all said the same as me. They would have been pissed. The service was good and the attention we receive was very good and it's too bad it ended on a sour note. I was kind of taken off guard because I have never had a waiter say that to me, I've been to plenty of restaurants that let you know up front of the service charge, but never for my convienence. I came really close to saying something. Next time I will. I go with medium rare since the plates come out super hot -- medium well will overcook fast. The pork chop is also great -- tender and perfectly seasoned. Loved the crispy calamari with peppers, and the sides are SO good, they go with everything. And don't skip dessert -- the ultimate warm vanilla caramel cake is a MUST. So, so good! I have been dying to go to this steak house FOR YEARS! Finally, I had the chance to check this place out for a drug dinner I went to. We started with this warm bread. For a table full of strangers, it felt weird to break off a piece of bread. I wish they would have made the breads less homestyle like. Next, there was fried shrimp and calamari with fried cherry peppers. This was really delicious. I liked the sauces it came with. Then, there was a salad. The salad was pretty good as well. The showstoppers were the entree and dessert. I usually hate steak but I felt like since I was at a steakhouse, I should try out their NY strip. WOW, the NY strip was delicious. They warned me when I ordered that the medium rare steak would come out in a plate that was too hot to touch. They were right! It came straight out of the heat it was cooked in. The steak didn't need anything extra. It was amazing (taste wise) the way it was. I liked how the medium rare steak wasn't bleeding as well. The sides included broccoli that tasted really mushy. I wasn't impressed by how the broccoli was steamed. I feel like steamed broccoli should have a bit of crunch. The mash potatoes were delicious, however. They were super whipped up. The show stopper of the whole fest was their dessert- Ultimate Vanilla Caramel Cake. You have to get their dessert. It was the best thing I have had in a very long time. It was this warm cake that had vanilla ice cream on top with pecans mixed in. I loved how cold and creamy the vanilla ice cream tasted. I also liked how the whip cream tasted fresh. The pecans were all mixed in the dish which was amazing. It was nice the pecans were coated with brown sugar and toasted. In town for work with a colleague - came here for dinner. Was early, so sat at the bar for a drink, and ended up staying there for the meal. Bar tenders were amazing, I had the beet salad and filet (no sides), but amazing. My colleague had the tomato salad and filet, also raved. Served on a sizzling plate and the sides are served to you on it. Everything is hot and sizzling and delicious. More sides than any other steakhouse in the city. Ive had a few good meals here but last night was regrettable. Wife and I wanted to splurge on an expensive steak - so we ordered the Wagyu tomahawk to share. Medium rare. Steak comes out and initially looks beautiful - and the first bites were certainly tasty. But something was off. Upon further inspection the center of the steak was not cooked at all. Fat not rendered, cool, soft, raw. Notified our server which prompted a manager to come by who acknowledged the steak was raw and asked if we would like to "have a new experience" or further cook the initial steak. We were already off-put by eating raw steak and didn't want to waste meat so we told the to further cook the original steak. It came back marginally better but it's hard to rectify an undercooked steak when it's already pre sliced. I cook steak at home often. The steak was too thick to use direct heat only - which it looks like they did since they got a great sear with a gradient ending at a raw interior. Anyhow the server did feel bad so gave us a free cauliflower appetizer which was alright. Regardless I don't think we'll be coming back here. I can cook better at home for a fraction of the price or go to one of the many other excellent steak houses in Philly. Icing on the cake is that gratuity was added at 20%. I understand for large groups, but we were a party of two which I find ridiculous. I was also expecting at least a partial comp on the bill but alas there was none. read more

Inside very clean and upscale with a dim lit setting and the service was outstanding. I can't believe how much flavor my food had so rich and worth every bite. I went to Steak 48 for my birthday. There was confusion with the hostess when I arrived. I requested a certain area to be seated and they took me to another location. They eventually corrected it. It was a nice touch to receive a handwritten birthday card upon arrival. Our server Mike was amazing! I truly njoyed the Lemon Martini. The crispy shrimp deviled eggs, pork belly, Chilean Seabass, asparagus and creamed spinach were delicious. The large shrimp were rubbery, the corn pudding was too sweet for my taste and the sweet potatoes were too tangy. My friend was not impressed with his steak but didn't complain. Do not go here. Before seeing a show at the Miller theater next-door, I was waiting for my girlfriend to arrive, and I walked into steak 48, sat down at the bar and ordered a Manhattan. The bartender asked me if I had a preference on bourbon and I said Rye. I knew that this was a high-end place, and would reasonably expect the drink to cost $20-$25. That single Manhattan cost me $62. Which was $44 for the drink plus an automatic 20% gratuity plus tax and fees. I'm sorry, but I've been out to steakhouses on expense accounts before... But I've never encountered something so egregious. I don't think anyone sitting down at a bar - I don't care what establishment you're visiting - should expect that a single Manhattan should cost you $62. And if it's going to cost you that much? I don't think it's unreasonable for the bartender to say hey you do understand what bar tab is going to be for a single drink - and will cost you $62.? I just moved to Philadelphia after five years in Manhattan... And I never once paid that much for a single cocktail at any of the top cocktail bars in Manhattan... This was not a complicated drink to make - this is the most egregious charge for a cocktail I've ever experienced in my life. I just came back to Philadelphia from Manhattan...
