I'm begging you not to go to Alpen Rose. Not because it isn't incredible, but I want it all to myself. This place feels like a secret you're not supposed to tell. Cozy, speakeasy vibes, zero pretension, and service that makes you feel like you've been coming here for years. We started with the bread and bacon. The bacon was absurdly good (how is bacon that good?). The bread was basically a warm cloud with a golden crust. Then the beef Wellington. Sorry, Gordon, but this is the best beef Wellington I've ever had in my life. My favorite restaurant in the city. Top five on the planet. Please respect my wishes and stay away... unless you're bringing me with you.

Fantastic all around dining experience. Have dined here multiple times now and never a disappointment. Food, ambiance and service are all excellent.

BELIEVE THE HYPE! I attempted to make a reservation here about a month in advance for my boyfriend's birthday and I had no luck...I quickly learned that trying to get into Alpen Rose was possibly harder than getting into an Ivy League school, but I opted to be put on a waiting list and to receive notifications via "RESY" if any reservations were canceled and it was sort of like the universe had my back because we had the first snow storm of the season on my boyfriend's birthday and there were a few cancelations so I was able to secure a table at the exact time we hoped for!!! This is truly a VIP experience from start to finish. No signage outside of the restaurant ... you must ring a bell and tell whomever opens the sliding wood panel on the door your name and should you have a reservation you're let right in, and should you not have one, you're unfortunately turned away as the restaurant only has 12 tables and 4 bar seats, all of which require reservations. Service is top notch from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. And when you walk in you're blown away by the literal and figurative warmth of the restaurant as it's like you're transported back in time into what would be the perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner in a romance novel ... woodwork and chandeliers for days ... cozy plush leather seating ... fire burning grill in the kitchen ... literally the perfect ambiance! We ordered a few cocktails which were made to order and absolutely delicious! I went with the Number 30 and the Number 35 and recommend both. My boyfriend went with their Old Fashioned which he said was one of the best he's had. Bone Marrow Toast, Prawns and Hot Rolls were what we ordered for appetizers and the Dry Aged Strip and Dry Aged Ribeye with Creamed Spinach and the Potato Pancake Stack (that's not the real l name but can't remember what it was actually called lol) was what we ordered for entrees and can I just say that our tastebuds were honestly being seduced because this was some of the most special food we've had in a really long while ... like 5 star special! OMG! And our server who was top notch ended our dinner with surprise Raspberry Sorbet and Mini Pumpkin Pies with candles in them for my boyfriend's birthday! Absolutely 100% worth the hype and every penny! We will be back! Even if we have to make the reservation now for June 2026

This was probably one of the best meals I've had in my life. This restaurant is beyond beautiful, but the food was also incredible! The beef Wellington especially was 100/10. The staff went above and beyond as well to make sure we had a perfect anniversary celebration. The sparkler in our cake was such a cute touch! If you're looking for the ultimate date night spot that looks like it's out of a fairytale- look no further.

We were looking for a place to celebrate a special event and had seen Alpen Rose when dining outside at El Vez. So, we decided to try and snag a 5:00 pm reservation for a Monday. Sounds easy, right?! Well, the only reservation available for that day was at 8:30 pm. However, I set my Resy to alert me for an earlier option if something opened up. After a week or so, I got an alert for a 5:00 pm reservation and I immediately jumped on it. We arrived at 5:00 pm and rang the doorbell as instructed in other reviews. We were greeted immediately and then sat at a beautiful corner booth. We were so happy to have the extra space after seeing how quaint and cozy the restaurant is. Our waiter greeted us with a smile and charm. We ordered our drinks , which were labeled by number. One resembled an old fashioned and the other reminded me of something I would sip on while enjoying a lovely ocean breeze in the Caribbean. :) For food, we chose the Oysters Rockefeller (a first for us) for an app. Ribeye and NY strip with potato pave (another first) + asparagus for our entrees (and sides). We tried to go with as many "firsts" as we could since we were celebrating. The Oysters Rockefeller arrived, the dish consisted of 5 baked oysters that were nicely decorated with an even amount spinach and cheese that didn't over power the taste of the oyster. I also tasted a hint of lemon, which elevated the entire appetizer. I absolutely LOVED the it and so did my partner. Next our entrees arrived with the sides. My NY strip was massive (18 oz). I cut a piece of the potato pave and scooped some of the sour cream that was on the side. The potato pave reminded me of a Parmesan crusted potato dish with soft potato center that paired perfectly with the sour cream side. The asparagus contained grated Parmesan and it was absolutely divine. I couldn't get enough of everything on my plate. My partner raved about his ribeye and managed to finish the entire dish. We barely saved room for dessert, but felt we couldn't complete our full dining experience without dessert. So, we decided to try the upside down pineapple Alaskan cake for dessert. It was a rum cake with a pineapple compote and sherbet filling. I melted upon trying the first bite. The dessert was fluffy with nice tang from the sherbet that complimented the pineapple rum cake. We absolutely loved our celebratory dinner at Alpen Rose and would like to thank the restaurant and its staff for a fantastic dining experience. We will find another excuse to return and celebrate an even again soon.

This place is beautiful! A small, quaint restaurant where you have to ring the bell to be let in. I thought that was so adorable. Immediately upon being seated we were greeted by our amazing waiter. He was attentive, helpful, and efficient. I came here for a birthday and they added a sparkler into the dessert for the birthday girl. Loved that. Now onto the food. The steaks were cooked to perfection and a nice thick quality, but needed a touch bit of seasoning more for me. The creamed spinach was spectacular! Great steak place if you're looking for one!

Alpen Rose is my favorite restaurant in Philly. The service is always impeccable here and the vibes are always on point. Be sure to make a reservation when you come as the place is on the smaller side. You can't go wrong with most of the items on the menu. My favorites are the duck, porterhouse steak, bone marrow toast, wedge salad - get it chopped!

Came here for my birthday, and to get in, you have to ring a bell. When you walk in, it's a small restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. The ambiance was lovely, dim lighting gave it an intimate feel. We were seated right away, and our server was very attentive, answering all of our questions. The rolls were incredibly soft and airy. The creamy spinach was good, though it could've used just a pinch of salt. The bone-in ribeye was cooked to perfection, though I added a little salt to enhance the flavor. For dessert, I ordered the chocolate cake. It was moist and delicious. Overall, it was a great experience!

    Steak was 10/10. Perfection!

This dining experience was probably the best I had. Had reservations a month ahead of time. Luckily someone cancelled and we got an earlier reservation. The setting was nice, a rustic library feel. Servers were amazing. We got the tomahawk steak and it was worth every penny. The drinks were on point. Had one of the best old fashions. Sides were great. Ordered way too much so had to pack it up. This is a must dining experience and should be one everyone's bucket list.

Bone marrow toast is a must try! One of the best things I've eaten. The beef cheek on the toast is tender and so well seasoned. That on the toast itself is already amazing without the bone marrow. To me, the bone marrow wasn't even needed! Just the braised beef cheek on the extremely buttery toast was already an amazing dish. The cocktails were very good, we tried three. No 112 was the best tasting one! Light and refreshing. Service was great. Staff were all friendly. The dried aged porterhouse was cooked to exactly how we liked it. Loved that it was a little charred on the outside to give the steak a crust. The potato pavé is a must try- crisp on the outside, moist on the inside. Roasted Asparagus with the salsa verde sauce was perfect. The only thing that did not go as planned was that my boyfriend called the restaurant ahead of time to ask for a dessert to be brought out for my birthday... but this did not happen. They must have forgotten about the request.

Alpen Rose has been on my bucket list for years, and I finally got to experience it when a friend brought me here for my birthday. I was absolutely blown away. The space has this intimate, vintage library vibe that makes it feel like you've stepped into a secret world--warm lighting, shelves of old books, and a quiet elegance that sets the perfect mood. The food was nothing short of spectacular. The steak was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, but the real standout was the lobster linguine. Rich, buttery, and loaded with lobster--it was easily one of the best pasta dishes I've had in Philly. Service was just as memorable--attentive, kind, and genuinely thoughtful. They made my birthday feel incredibly special, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

This was my second time dining at Alpen Rose. We've always had a good experience. This time, I was in a mood for duck and was satisfied with my 1/2 Duck. It was a great portion and the duck was cooked very well. The Mac and cheese is a must have. I don't usually opt for baked mac and cheese but I like the Mac and cheese here. Food and vibes were top notch. We were celebrating our anniversary and got some raspberry sorbet for dessert. Only cons is that it's difficult to get reservation and the tables are super close to each other.

    Is this place wheelchair accessible?

I'm sure they may say they are but honestly, they have a tight floor plan. There is not a lot of room between tables. This is just my opinion. I can not say what special accommodations they may make.

Are vaccinations still required as of Feb 2022?

No. And please ignore Michelle C.

How is this restaurant handling COVID guidelines? It looks like a smaller intimate restaurant, are the tables spaced well apart? Thanks!

Hi Kerri! Thank you for your inquiry. We follow all covid related restaurant guidelines that have been set in the city. We are definitely a small restaurant, and where 6 foot spacing might not be an option, we have installed plexiglass safety… Read more

But, on…read morethe multi-festival Saturday, second of May in the year 2026, I can definitively say that I've now tried the little seafood spot on one of our favorite corners, that we're almost always just passing by to get to Time. First, the friendly, informative service: in an oyster bar with a rotating fresh selection, that's an underrated must. We were seated outside, given a rundown of the menu and "as it's ready" flow of the kitchen. We got a pair of cocktails, the Melonata and a Tequila Julep. I think the Melonata might be my new summer favorite. It looks like Ecto Cooler but doesn't give a distinct feeling of growing diabetes while drinking it. In grown up terms, it was well balanced, not too sour, not too sweet, and deeply herbal, fruity, and refreshing at the same time. The Tequila Julep was a Mint Julep with tequila instead of bourbon. It was good, though it's hard to mess that set of ingredients up. We got a selection of oysters and a shooter. Every oyster was distinct and different. Felt like there were no "different on the menu but same in flavor profile" that you can sometimes run into. This implies it's well curated. I have no idea, because I'm not an expert fishmonger, nor do I know whether that term specifically applies here - case in point. Anyway, I got 2 from Washington State, and another from Cape May. The first WA was large, buttery, and had the satisfying chew of young coconut flesh. Semi sweet. The second was smaller, sharper, and briny as hell - tasted of the ocean. And finally, the Cape May was mild and fresh, a good balance between the two others. It was a perfect little tasting menu that I'd created by just ordering the first three guys off the list. Not sure what selection came with the shooter, but the concoction in the shot glass shooter was bright green and pickly. Glad I got it as a contrast to the classics with what I assumed was red wine vinegar. Besides that, we snacked on salmon avocado toast with the Calabrian Chili Oil. It was also very, very good. Sometimes things are better than the sum of their parts. This is true here, but it's also worth noting that the individual parts - the bread, the smoked salmon, the chili oil, the avocado, the shaved onions - were excellent in their own right. We will be back for sure.

We had oysters from Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut and all of the ones we chose you could taste the unique differences from one to the next. Crab cakes were on point; the vegetables were next level with the side of asparagus coming with roe on top of it. New England soup was actually light and not heavy like most creamy NE soups which I appreciated as it made me have room for the rest of the meal. We also indulged in some Butterscotch Pudding which in my view had three distinct flavors. The very top tasted similar to sweet creme Brule, the actual pudding was creamy and delish and there was a garnish of whipped cream I believe on top. All items surpassed my expectations and we will definitely be repeat customers. Highly Recommend. As always people SYOY!!!!
