First time going back to our old favorite lunch spot since stupid COVID, a Korean restaurant tucked inside a convenience store. So glad to see our Hispanic lady is still holding down the fort all these years and she didn't yell at me today for being a pain in the ass. We got the Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup (ChamPong), Pan-fried Atka Mackerel, a top pick of ours, and Ox Bone Soup (SuLongTang). Food is excellent as usual, it's also nostalgic to return to this spot that we frequented years ago, before the foodie culture. I miss the sweet dessert rice drink they used to put out, it's getting tighter for small business owners, I understand. I got the winning ticket for tomorrow's lottery, my ass is gonna burn because of the spiciness, Monkeypox is gonna kill us all, eat some good food, hug your loved ones, and have a magnificent week.

A korean restaurant in southwest houston located inside a convince store. There was a lot of good things about this place, the food was affordable, and the ladies that attended me were nice (a plus because i speak Spanish too) , and the banchan was really good! The fish cakes were my faveee. I ordered jjajangmyeon and while the portion was huge and a steal for only $12 , it really didn't taste like anything...even with the chili powder which made me upset because i really wanted to like this. Hopefully I can try other dishes soon.

A true hole on the role restaurant. Nothing special but everything was delicious. Don't expect anything fancy or best service. You are here for the food

This was a proper hole in the wall. We walked in and were surprised by it being an extension to a convenience store. Seated in front of a freezer with an interesting selection of cheap wines and eggs, my boyfriend and I ordered the #2 bibambap and #8(?) kimchi fried rice. It was so damn good. Less than 15 mins, the lady brought out two steaming bowls with an assortment of sides. Water is not included btw. No biggie, my boyfriend walked less than 200 feet to the right to buy drinks. Super convenient. Their prices are probably the best in the area. For that alone, it's 5 stars. Also, the bathroom door actually opens to another door. Don't confused by this, it's like a little test of persistence. Open the second door. This place is no bullshit. You ask, they deliver. Don't come if you're looking for an inviting environment. That said, my faith in hole in the walls have been restored. Love it.

Same place where the original Go Hyang Jib was. This is under new owner, new phone number and much friendlier service.

This is under new management. Yes, they kept the Korean/Chinese name but different phone number, different menu and different English name as Go Hyang Korean Restaurant. This is a mom-and-pop owned restaurant located on the north end of Young's Store. The menu is much smaller than previous operator. The staff is much friendlier than before. I'm here mostly Friday afternoons before dinner rush. I constantly seeing flow of customers coming in. It's a cozy place for dinner, really. It offers takeout as well. To avoid those school buses and stop signs on Ranchester, I normally come here from Harwin. People asked me which is my favorite. I can only try one dish at a time. So check my photos for the answer. Just to be fair. It's not Go Hyang Jib Korean Restaurant. I'm tired making corrections on Yelp. Who am I going to argue? At least it exists. ** 4th update of 2017 **

    Seolleongtang ox bone soup

I was quite disappointed. I was hoping to find a hidden gem of a mom & pop joint. We ordered the: Seolleongtang is a Korean broth tang (soup) made from ox bones (mostly leg bones), brisket and other cuts. Seasoning is generally done at the table according to personal taste by adding salt, ground black pepper, red pepper, minced garlic, or chopped spring onions. Jajangmyeon is a noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced pork and vegetables. Food was blan. Sides dishes were odd. Don't think we'll be back.

This is a tiny hole in the wall restaurant that doesn't have an English sign out front and is so easy to miss, but the food is very delicious and authentic. Pros: - huge portions (big enough to share between 2 people) - decent pricing (~$7-$12) - delicious food (we got a variety of rice, potato noodles, and soups) - AMAZING RICE PUNCH!!! Cons: - A bit small (kind of ghetto looking) - Easy to miss the store Overall, pretty neat place, especially if you like less main stream, hole in the wall treasures.

My sister and I were craving for some korean food and looked up a few places nearby on yelp. We decided on this one and it was hard to find. We drove around for quite a bit of time before we found it tucked away in a plaza. The owners were friendly and recommended some dishes. HAEMUL PAJEON- seafood and green onion pancake The pancake was soggy and the flavor was oily and salty. I love green onions, but this was an overload of just onions and the seafood was fishy and didn't taste fresh. This dish was a fail. KIMCHI JIGAE- kimchi stew The soup had a very thin consistency and had a very fishy flavor. This was not my favorite and I've had better kimchi elsewhere. ZHAJIANGMIAN- black soybean paste noodle This was my favorite dish of the meal. The black paste was flavorful and nicely seasoned. I would've liked some sort of meat, but instead I believe I tasted some potatoes in this dish. Other than that this dish really hit the flavors spot on with the savory paste, perfectly cooked noodles, fresh cucumbers, and sunny side up egg. I don't know if I'll be coming back here for korean food, but it was a nice try.

probably the cheapest korean lunchbox available during lunch. the food is good for korean food. its not bland. the restaurant itself is inside the market on the left. not too bad.

THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAS COME BACK. So happy to see Ajumma come back to make delicious Korean food. This hole-in-the-wall restaurant is like a gold nugget in a muddy river considering the neighborhood it is in. The side dishes are amazing (what other Korean restaurant serves expensive raw spicy squid??) and the food quality and taste is great. I admit though it is pricy, but the portion size is good for some dishes. I am a regular that has come here for five years, and you know a Korean restaurant is good when there are a dozen ajummas that come here too.

    The sign outside the restaurant.

This place is one of the hidden gems of Chinatown. They have the best cold noodles and seafood pancakes.

This location in spring…read morebranch is their original, and I grew up coming here for lunch every sunday after church. 1) Jjajangmyeon: My brother loves getting this one. It is sweet and a bit soupy from all the sauce. The noodles are chewy and bouncy, and get coated in the sauce nicely. There is a good amount of meat that comes with it too! The flavors are great. 2) Jaengbanjjajang: This is my go-to and personal favorite noodle dish to get here. It is similar to their original jjangmyeon except that it is less soupy and has a bit of spice. The spiciness adds a nice kick balancing the sweet and savory flavors. There are also lots of different mix ins like squid, shrimp, beef, and vegetables! The play on textures and contrasting flavors is why I love this dish 3) Spicy Chicken Wings (Yangnyeom): For not being a chicken wing restaurant, Paiks sure does serve some banger wings. Juicy big wings with a slight crisp on the outside. The sauce is amazing. It is that sweet and spicy yangnyeom korean fried chicken sauce. 4) Tangsuyuk: I never visit Paisk without ordering their tangsuyuk. Perfectly fried with a great chew. The pork is not too porky or gamey which is nice, and the sauce is a sticky sweet and sour sauce. 4) Gunmandoo: Their panfried dumplings are quite nice too! I haven't gotten them in a while, but they were solid Overall, I don't think there was a single dish I disliked here at Paiks. Service is standard, not too fast not too slow. The ambiance is not really one for dates or anything. It's super casual with metal chairs. It can get a bit cold. There are restrooms and water dispensers. They used to have the self serve yellow radish but now they just serve it with your meal. You have to clean your table yourself and put all the dish trays in the back
