Queso fundido, chicken tacos, plantain salbutes, cochinita salbutes

This was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in a while. If you are in Sunnyvale and looking for some truly authentic Mexican food. Give Mayan kitchen a chance! Great food, amazing service, I will be coming back soon.

Gambas al Ajillo

Can't say that I've tried Mayan food before, but figured better late than never! There are a lot of food options, but I decided to go with the small plates so I could try more things. I got the beef empanada, chicken pibil taco, and tamales de pollo. I also shared the gambas al ajillo with my friends. I think the shrimp dish was the all around favorite of things tried. There's a lot of garlic flavor that really complements the shrimp flavors well. I like the balance between the soft/juicy shrimp and the crunchy crostini. I thought the small plates were pretty good, but not quite as flavorful as the shrimp. Service was quick! We didn't have to wait very long for the food to come out. There is ample seating inside and variety of different tables/semi-booths.

Wow, truly an amazing experience. Mayan Kitchen Food is such a gem on Murphy Street! There's plenty of parking in the area, this street is also closed off to cars for outdoor dining. Located right next to the caltrain station. Neither one of us had ever had Mayan food before so definitely piqued my interest, because it isn't very common. It's very nicely decorated inside, including a little water feature. We opted to sit by the window and got a pleasant breeze. The staff was all very nice and helpful! They do gorgeous plating and the food has beautiful colors! We had the vegan calamari to start, absolutely amazing and. Pretty good dupe for actual calamari. The sauce was super yummy and wow! I don't even like creamy sauces but I kept coming back to this. We then moved onto the wagyu beef empanada, which was very good and the tamal de pollo. My partner basically inhaled the tamal de pollo. The salmon taco reminded us of the ones we've had in Mexico, great flavors. The cochinita pibil salbute was perfectly tender and had great crispy contrast as well. Absolutely delicious. Would definitely return and bring friends so you can try a little bit of everything!

This place is AMAZING, so glad I found it on Yelp! I don't find myself in downtown Sunnyvale often, but when I came across Mayan Kitchen while searching for Women-owned businesses on Yelp, I knew I had to get down here ASAP. One of the things that sold me on Mayan Kitchen is that I was dining with someone who is gluten free, and they have so many options that fit the need. We tried a bunch of items from the menu, with some of our favorites being the Cochinita Pibil, beef empanada, and the pollo salbute. I also had leftovers that I brought home to my boyfriend and he loved them all, especially the elote. Excited to come back here and try some new items, as well as those favorites from before.

On New Year's Eve, we decided to try Mayan Kitchen. I had been there once before for appetizers and really enjoying the food. My second experience was no different. The majority of menu is vegetarian. It had a good ambience with a cool water feature. Food was very tasty. We had guava lemonade.fried plantains, corn ribs, tacos with steak, pork, fried hibiscus flowers and hot chocolate with oat milk, Everything was extremely flavorful. Service was excellent. They were constantly cleaning off our table from the empty plates and refilling our glasses with water. We will be back.

First mayan restaurant I visited. I planned to come last month but didn't get a chance. Finally able to visit and try the food and drink. It has indoor and outdoor seating. It is located on closed street from vehicle. The interior is simple and you feel like you are somewhere at the restaurant in other part of America. It has plenty dishes and drink on the menu. This place will be "heaven" for vegitarian has it has plenty vegitarian dishes on the menu. We order mocktail which were refreshing. For appetizer? Yucca, tortillas chips, and elotes are yummy. The dipping for tortillas is very unique. It is not salsa. The bao and mayan tacos are yummy. Interesting the serve bao.it is exactly like Chinese bao. Pricewise it is reasonable but some are quite high. Service was good and we went home happy.

Vegan Calamari Taco
Meghna N.

They have plenty of vegan options. The food was phenomenal..I tried the vegan calamari taco (5/5). It's fried hibiscus. Loved it so had to try it again (so had 2 of them). (The service was great too, everyone seemed nice) P.S Don't alter/modify your order like I did. I modified one of the soft tacos to the crunchy one and didn't like it (too greasy). Chicken Tamale

Choose this restaurant for a reunion lunch for a group who travels to Costa Rica together. It did not disappoint!!! The six of us all enjoyed our menu choices! I ordered a bao with chicken and a tamale with chicken. Both were excellent and the hot sauce made each even better!!! The gourd also ordered friend plantains to share which were quite tasty.

Incredible food! So glad I stumbled upon this spot during food week. The waiting system is rather confusing & they don't call you-- so be sure to hang around if you're close on the list (this could've just been because it was a busy day) With that said, the food was well worth the wait... which speaks volumes about how good it was. The staff was apologetic about the wait and it seemed like they were short staffed, so not on them at all. Everything was made deliciously fresh and piping hot! There is both indoor and outdoor seating available!

Chips N' Bean (Vegan)
Wilson C.

Stopped by this restaurant and the food was fairly good. Had chips with some salsas and beans and they slapped and the corn ribs were really good. Also had some tacos and those were good as well. Not too busy over all and I would recommend!

Young Y.

Solid food that had some latin-fusion vibes. I got a tostada, a bun, and an empanada. The empanada was my fav. The staff were also kind.

Leo Y.

Great service and a spotlessly clean environment! I tried the pork dish, but it was just "fine" for me--nothing spectacular. However, the staff made me feel very welcome. I'd give it another shot for the atmosphere alone, but I'll likely skip the pork next time.

Jicama fries

We made reservations ahead of time initially for 3 and then changed to 7, but for some reason the update didn't go through the system. But the server accomodated us nevertheless with a smile and very courtesy. Service gets 4 stars - very polite. Ambiance was average to slightly upscale. Food is where this place came through with lots of hits, and a miss or two. We ordered a number of items and here is what enjoyed The vegan empanada and the vegetarian empanada were both good - served warm. We ordered 3 types of bao including the vegan, the tofu and the beet. Now the issue I had was that both the vegan empanada and the vegan bao both seemed to have the same Impossible vegan filling so they tasted very similar. The tofu and beet bao were good - the bao bun particularly was super soft Definitely order the jicama salsa as well as the regular salsa. Also order the hot chocolate, the kiddo said it tasted like the one he loved back in Barcelona. Overall definitely worth a visit and a repeat. Hopefully they will rotate the menu so we can keep going back.

Delicious filling surrounded by a flakey empanada crust. It's no wonder it sells out often. All of the entrees are shareable. Our party of three wanted to try a variety of dishes, and not one disappointed. They all came out individually, which allowed for good company to share a nice bottle of wine (syrah . stolpman 'crunchy roastie' 2022.) If I had to pick my "must-haves" for future visits, I'd say the Sticky Pork Shank, Wood-Fired Eggplant, and Chickpea Fritters would have to join the empanadas. I truly feel that every dessert is worth a try. Both the Mango Sticky Rice and Chocolate Basil Brownie Bash (new) were delicious. So, save room for something! Wonderful atmosphere! There is ample parking, as this restaurant is hotel-adjacent (Treehouse Hotel Silicon Valley,) but don't let that fool you or you'll truly be missing out.

The portion is also tiny. I thought it was gonna be like a big paella or something. Overall everything was solid/tasty. Cocktails were surprisingly good. I'll say the only thing is the value/price. Portions are tiny and some things like the rice are really pricey for the portion that you get so I'd def be aware of that.

Not only did the bartenders help guests sitting at the bar, but they walked around checking on everyone in the lounge seating, and showed that they cared about the customer experience. They messed up on the first pair of drinks we ordered, but comped our second set of cocktails which they made ten times better. We really appreciated this. Adding to our lovely evening, the live music created just the right vibe. Mike Annuzzi, who plays here weekly, showcased some incredible talent on the guitar and vocals, performing great tunes including a jazzy rendition of Michael Jackson's Human Nature, Fly Me to the Moon, as well as some Richard Marx, Now and Forever. We may ahve cleared the entire jug together. While waiting for food, we enjoyed the complimentary bread with dip alongside some light traffic on the outdoor patio. The Ahi Tuna Tartar was our appeitizer, and it was delicious - gobbled in minutes! It was enjoyed with the chips and was quite light. The Paella Marinera came next, which featured a good amount of seafood. The seafood was all crisp but fell short in a few ways. For starters, the rice was mainly carried by seasoning, but the taste was lacking a body - stretched in sour, salty and sweet, but something was indeed missing. The shrimps were enjoyable, but the mollusks were grilled so much that the shell was easily cracked, and there were small pieces in the food. Overall, I would say this dish was the most underwhelming. While we enjoyed dinner on the street, there are options to dine in, too, where the noise would not be from light traffic but rather TVs and passive conversations, the kind one might expect from a bar. Paying the bill at the end took quite a long while, too, so budget accordingly!
