Finally got to try Sushi Island and it did not disappoint! I ordered to-go through online and they had it ready pretty fast. The restaurant is quaint and inside was chill. Food: * 49er Roll: Imitation crab meat, avocado, topped with Salmon and sliced lemon. 8/10 * Island Roll: Yellowtail, avocado, topped with salmon, tuna, tobiko, special sauce. 9/10 * Giants Roll: Spicy scallop, cucumber , topped with fresh salmon, tobiko, special sauce. 9/10 All the rolls were a good size, the fish tasted fresh, and the sauces weren't too overpowering. Sushi Island is a solid place for sushi and sashimi. I will definitely be back.

Showed up at 8:15. Felt a little uncomfortable when we told them we were dining in and they looked at the clock *they closed at 9. Food: everything we ordered was good. Just wish they added more tofu to their miso. Service: service was decent and quick. Parking: little shopping center. Plenty of parking. My only reason for a 4 start review... is because I THINK I saw a little roach crawling on the floor when we were getting up to leave. Thank goodness I saw it at the end of my meal.

We pass by this plaza once in a while. And when we do we are always curious to check out the Sushi Island restaurant. We finally dropped by recently and left highly satisfied. We arrived for a Saturday dinner. The sushi restaurant is located in a nice plaza off Camden and Branham cross streets in San Jose. Parking is easy and accessible in the medium size parking lot. Sushi Island has a catchy name. The Japanese decor inside is simple and modern. The restaurant is a decent size as there are a couple of booths and a few tables. There is a small sushi bar with a few seats surrounding it. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We ordered the UFO sushi roll, dinner bento box with teriyaki beef and CA rolls, salmon nigiri, unagi nigiri, and a glass of Chardonnay wine. Everything was delicious and tasty. Our favorite was the baked UFO sushi roll. I enjoyed the scallops on top which added more flavor. The teriyaki beef in my bento box was tender and to a pleasant surprise there was 6 scrumptious CA rolls. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Sushi Island. The price point was affordable and the quality was excellent. We will definitely be back when we are in the area and craving sushi. It was nice to try another new sushi restaurant as well.

A very good option for fresh and tasty sushi in the Cambrian area. An extensive menu with affordable prices. We had Sake Salmon, avocado maki, California rolls and mixed Tempura. All were fresh and delicious. This was our first time at the sushi island and we will return.

I love this place! We've been coming here for quite some time now. We even have our own table and the staff knows us and our order! There are plenty sushi places around and we tried them all and they're by far the best ones. They have reasonable prices, huge variety of sushi, their lunch specials are wonderful and great value! We and up coming back here every time. Make sure you check their schedule in advance it has happened several times that we came in on Tuesday for lunch and forgot it was closed.

Loved this place! It's a warm, family-owned restaurant with super friendly service. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Great vibes and even better food, definitely coming back!

I am so happy I found this place! I ordered for pickup on DoorDash but I will definitely be coming back to dine in. I got 4 different roll and a side salad for about $70 which is a decent price considering the rolls were big and packed with fish! They don't skimp here, and overall all the rolls were 10/10. This is probably my new favorite sushi spot. The sushi chefs were so friendly when I walked in to pickup as well. Also the sushi looked very pretty and nice, very well made!

This is a cute little neighborhood place tucked into a large strip mall. I am pretty sure this was a sushi spot with a different name that I went to some years ago, not sure how new this is. The staff is very attentive and good at bringing stuff out. I liked how they had a good selection of reasonably priced lunch specials. The food was decent, I did feel like my bento was a little bit small but it was reasonably priced!

I had an amazing experience here. Everything I ordered was so good and the quality of food was wonderful

Sushi Island is everything you want in a local sushi spot. Small but charming with generous portions of fresh sashimi, it is a welcome addition to the Branham dining scene. The service was attentive and kind, and the presentation of the dishes was top notch. They were easily able to accommodate our large party of nine, and after the meal everyone had only positive things to say about the experience. I tried out the 10-piece Chef Sashimi Regular and was more than satisfied with the quality and volume of fish that I received. Others tried out the bento and rolls, and it all turned out to be great. Based on the good experience so far, I'd be curious to try out some of their other options such as the ramen or donburi, but it will be difficult to turn down another sashimi feast. If you find yourself in South San Jose craving a bite of sushi, find your way down to Sushi Island and you won't be disappointed!

Food: B For the AYCE Premium experience, they offer an extensive list of options to choose from. Adding the premium option unlocks access to the nigiri and special selection. Rolls: These were definitely solid and meet up with the standards around the Bay. So if you have an itch ya need to scratch for good ole 'Murica-style rolls, they gotchu. Special selection: You can only choose one per person. We opted for the Boujee Roll and the Sashimi Salad. The Boujee Roll--an upscale roll made with premium ingredients--was good, and the Sashimi Salad was solid. Nigiri: Left the best for last, but we were disappointed with the quality of this lineup. Knowing that it was the premium addition, the quality wasn't the best--and yes, this is factoring in that it's AYCE, but the texture and taste were still a bit off. Overall, we would come back maybe for the à la carte rolls, or if we do AYCE, we might just stick with the regular option. They have a wide variety of offerings, which made it hard to decide what to order. We decided on the edemame, chicken teriyaki & tempura bento subbed with sashimi, and 2 of their special nigiris. Everything was really good. I loved the chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet, and the chicken was seasoned. It's been a while since I've had good teriyaki chicken! The sashimi came with 2 pieces of tuna and 2 pieces of salmon, which were fine, decent size and tasted fresh. The shrimp tempura had a unique breading, not the typical panko, and it was so crunchy. The shrimp seemed more like a prawn. It was much larger and had great freshness and sweetness. Really good! The special nigiris we ordered were the aburi sake toro & engawa yuzu. In general, I thought the fish pieces were pretty skinny. Good rice to fish ratio tho. The salmon toro would probably be better with less sauce. It overpowered the fish, and I couldn't enjoy the fattiness of the salmon. The engawa was supposed to be torched, but it wasn't. It was still good tho. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'll definitely be back to try more items.

I had a tour to Japan last March, I traveled from Osaka to Tokyo. I was impressed that the traditional sushi section here in this restaurant compared to Japan is not different. However, the non-Japanese create sauce and ingredients to make maki more favor. As more as you know about the history of Japanese sushi, the more you respect the head chef here. Unfortunately, the sashimi was by far the worst I've ever been served at a restaurant. The fish appeared discolored, old, and slimy. When we asked our server what types of fish were included, we were told tori, salmon, albacore, yet the almost every piece (minus the salmon) had a brownish-gray appearance that was extremely unappetizing. I'm not sure if we happened to receive the last of their inventory for the week, but serving fish in that condition at full price ($60) is kind of crazy. Some of the sashimi looked comparable to raw pork that had been sitting out, which was honestly concerning. The sushi rolls were also disappointing. They were very average, with flavors and quality that reminded me of grocery store sushi. Nothing stood out or justified the price point. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I was especially let down because this restaurant came highly recommended by a family member who has dined here multiple times and always had positive experiences. To make matters worse, I developed stomach discomfort within about 15 minutes of leaving the restaurant. I had been looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations.

We're glad we picked here to show them what the Bay Area can do in terms of more authentic Japanese food. The decor is traditional and not fancy, but comfortable and clean. The shishito peppers were really tasty, not too hot, pleasantly hot. Edamame was typical, nothing really special, but it's a bit difficult to really elevate edamame. The braised pork was good and the lean parts were easy to selectively eat. Nothing here is aggressively seasoned, but also not at all bland, so it's a good balance of flavorful but not overbearing. The grilled chicken wings were okay, but nothing outstanding or memorable - but simple and fine. Our "main" dishes, the deluxe meshi, nike tofu, and okonomiyaki were all great! Other than the edamame, which was very bland, everything was very flavorful. The pork was very soft, and the sliced thin beef paired really well with the tofu in the niku tofu. Both dishes came piping hot, and were very comforting, like home-cooked food. The shishito peppers came with a lot of bonito flakes; they're charred very well and not spicy at all. Wings well nicely grilled, too. The seafood okonomiyaki was not bad. It's a bit softer than I expected, but had quite a lot of seafood. The large Deluxe Meshi was pretty big.
