3.5 stars 5 star services and customer welcoming attitude. I called to make a take out order, the lady on the other side of the line was patient and friendly when I asked her what she could suggest to add to my original orders. When I walked into the store for pick up, I was warmly greeted by the sushi bar chef, the owner and the waitress that took my payment. Then I was notified for a 5 minutes wait. Everything was courteous and polite and welcoming. The food was not bad either. The Volcano Roll was a new item for us and it was kid-approved instantly. I also got the Warriors Roll and the waitress suggested the Dragon Roll after I decided on eel and not shrimp. The prices are reasonable as well. I took out some points because of the strong soy sauce smell when entering the restaurant. The decoration is not fancy but slightly run down. When I used the restroom, I smelled weed, which is also a point reducer. Other than that, I don't mind ordering from them again.

Finally got to try Sushi Island and it did not disappoint! I ordered to-go through online and they had it ready pretty fast. The restaurant is quaint and inside was chill. Food: * 49er Roll: Imitation crab meat, avocado, topped with Salmon and sliced lemon. 8/10 * Island Roll: Yellowtail, avocado, topped with salmon, tuna, tobiko, special sauce. 9/10 * Giants Roll: Spicy scallop, cucumber , topped with fresh salmon, tobiko, special sauce. 9/10 All the rolls were a good size, the fish tasted fresh, and the sauces weren't too overpowering. Sushi Island is a solid place for sushi and sashimi. I will definitely be back.

Showed up at 8:15. Felt a little uncomfortable when we told them we were dining in and they looked at the clock *they closed at 9. Food: everything we ordered was good. Just wish they added more tofu to their miso. Service: service was decent and quick. Parking: little shopping center. Plenty of parking. My only reason for a 4 start review... is because I THINK I saw a little roach crawling on the floor when we were getting up to leave. Thank goodness I saw it at the end of my meal.

We pass by this plaza once in a while. And when we do we are always curious to check out the Sushi Island restaurant. We finally dropped by recently and left highly satisfied. We arrived for a Saturday dinner. The sushi restaurant is located in a nice plaza off Camden and Branham cross streets in San Jose. Parking is easy and accessible in the medium size parking lot. Sushi Island has a catchy name. The Japanese decor inside is simple and modern. The restaurant is a decent size as there are a couple of booths and a few tables. There is a small sushi bar with a few seats surrounding it. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We ordered the UFO sushi roll, dinner bento box with teriyaki beef and CA rolls, salmon nigiri, unagi nigiri, and a glass of Chardonnay wine. Everything was delicious and tasty. Our favorite was the baked UFO sushi roll. I enjoyed the scallops on top which added more flavor. The teriyaki beef in my bento box was tender and to a pleasant surprise there was 6 scrumptious CA rolls. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Sushi Island. The price point was affordable and the quality was excellent. We will definitely be back when we are in the area and craving sushi. It was nice to try another new sushi restaurant as well.

I love this place! We've been coming here for quite some time now. We even have our own table and the staff knows us and our order! There are plenty sushi places around and we tried them all and they're by far the best ones. They have reasonable prices, huge variety of sushi, their lunch specials are wonderful and great value! We and up coming back here every time. Make sure you check their schedule in advance it has happened several times that we came in on Tuesday for lunch and forgot it was closed.

A very good option for fresh and tasty sushi in the Cambrian area. An extensive menu with affordable prices. We had Sake Salmon, avocado maki, California rolls and mixed Tempura. All were fresh and delicious. This was our first time at the sushi island and we will return.

Loved this place! It's a warm, family-owned restaurant with super friendly service. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Great vibes and even better food, definitely coming back!

I am so happy I found this place! I ordered for pickup on DoorDash but I will definitely be coming back to dine in. I got 4 different roll and a side salad for about $70 which is a decent price considering the rolls were big and packed with fish! They don't skimp here, and overall all the rolls were 10/10. This is probably my new favorite sushi spot. The sushi chefs were so friendly when I walked in to pickup as well. Also the sushi looked very pretty and nice, very well made!

This is a cute little neighborhood place tucked into a large strip mall. I am pretty sure this was a sushi spot with a different name that I went to some years ago, not sure how new this is. The staff is very attentive and good at bringing stuff out. I liked how they had a good selection of reasonably priced lunch specials. The food was decent, I did feel like my bento was a little bit small but it was reasonably priced!

But after weighing the price of the all-you-can-eat vs ordering exactly what we were craving a la carte, we decided to just order off the menu, which was the smart move since it was much less expensive and we ended up full. The place is casual and a little not-fancy decor or ambiance wise. You wouldn't bring anyone here you wanted to impress. . .but the food is what's important, right? The sushi was good! The rolls were large, the options were creative, and everything was tasty and met expectations. I wouldn't say it's elevated sushi, where there are layers to the flavors and you go "wow". But you get your sushi and see the portions are a good size and are happy that you get to dig in and eat satisfying sushi. I'd come back here again, especially for casual sushi where you want good value. Service was good as well - again, nothing fancy or overly attentive, but perfectly adequate for the level of restaurant. Also, it came pretty quickly, which was a plus as well (it wasn't that crowded when we went).

We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. I wouldn't mind coming back again to try other items on their menu when I'm in the area.

They have a wide variety of offerings, which made it hard to decide what to order. We decided on the edemame, chicken teriyaki & tempura bento subbed with sashimi, and 2 of their special nigiris. Everything was really good. I loved the chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet, and the chicken was seasoned. It's been a while since I've had good teriyaki chicken! The sashimi came with 2 pieces of tuna and 2 pieces of salmon, which were fine, decent size and tasted fresh. The shrimp tempura had a unique breading, not the typical panko, and it was so crunchy. The shrimp seemed more like a prawn. It was much larger and had great freshness and sweetness. Really good! The special nigiris we ordered were the aburi sake toro & engawa yuzu. In general, I thought the fish pieces were pretty skinny. Good rice to fish ratio tho. The salmon toro would probably be better with less sauce. It overpowered the fish, and I couldn't enjoy the fattiness of the salmon. The engawa was supposed to be torched, but it wasn't. It was still good tho. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I'll definitely be back to try more items.

I tried the funky rice-less Green Secret Roll (cucumber wrapped with salmon, tuna, imitation crab) which was fresh and yummy, the Mango Crunch Roll (like a spicy tuna with a piece of fresh mango with avocado and salmon) - also so good, and the combo tempura (2 shrimp + assorted veggies -- the good assortment with pumpkin and broccoli, not just onion lol). I also had the salmon belly nigiri which was a two piece dish. The salmon was seared to perfection and deliciously rich. Ambiance is on the casual side. The salmon miso fusion nigiri completely blew us away. Everyone at the table was awestruck after the first bite. And the uni deserves a special mention. We've had uni nigiri at plenty of other sushi restaurants where it's been just okay, but the uni here was an absolute showstopper: fresh, creamy, sweet, and without any unpleasant aftertaste. The quality of the fish, attention to detail, and consistency have been outstanding every visit. Anywho, we ordered a variety of items to try: new stamina don, clam chowder croquette, kani chirashi bento, and a salmon kama bento. Regarding the food: New stamina don came with slice beef, sliced beef tongue, braised pork, poached egg, and kimchi over rice. The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. A fried crispy croquette with clam chowder in it but also some mashed potatoes and tonkotsu sauce on top. Kani chirashi bento had snow crab, fish roe over rice, rolled egg omelette, sashimi, fried boneless chicken, and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The sashimi came with 4 pieces, 2 tuna and 2 salmon. the tuna was a little fishy but the soy sauce helped. The salmon was actually pretty good - good fattiness. The fried chicken was fine, a few pieces were dry. Overall this bento was good. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion. For the food overall, it was a little bit under seasoned for me but for portion, price and quality are good.

I'll admit it might have just been the specific dishes we ordered, but the food overall missed the mark. On a positive note, the service was incredibly fast and the staff was very nice! However, the food left a lot to be desired. We got the wagyu beef plate, and the meat was unfortunately chewy and heavily over-salted. We also ordered the seared salmon ikura bowl, which wasn't anything special and really lacked flavor. The bowl was quite dry, and I kept wishing it came with some sort of sauce to tie everything together. Even the shishito peppers were surprisingly bland. While I appreciate the great service, the food just didn't live up to the hype for me.
