Gold Banh is in the Glendora Public Market, which has a very nice vibe to it. It feels trendy and was busy when we visited. Honestly, my wife was waiting in line while I was wrangling the kids so I can't say much about the service, but we definitely had our opinions on the food. Between the four of us we split a brisket sandwich, a pastrami banh mi, and a calamansi lemonade. Pastrami Banh Mi - Honestly, people are loving this and I can see why, but it was a bit of mixed bag for me. On the plus side, when you pay for a pound of meat, they give you a pound of meat. I thought it looked expensive on the menu, but when half a sandwich is enough for one of MY boys, it's a lot. Three of four family members had to take naps when we got home. Just saying. The good cuts of meat were juicy and tender, which is good, and when you have the meat with the pickles and especially the picked jalapenos it elevates the sandwich at least 2 points on a 10 point scale. Their pickled peppers are excellent. That said, the pound of meat, I think, might have ruined the ratio. For me, I enjoy my pastrami more spiced and felt like there wasn't a lot of depth to the flavor. I didn't get much smoke, I didn't get much spice, it was very straightforward. I needed the vegetables to balance out the dish and there wasn't enough veg for the full lb of meat in that banh mi. The peppers were a VERY important part of the dish for me, but they were pretty spicy so I'm not sure how many people can have a slice in every bite. We also noticed that people were getting lucky with the cuts of meat they were getting. Since the pastrami is sliced on the spot, not every sandwich was getting the same quality cuts as far as we could tell for what that's worth. The thick cut slices were tender and juicy, but we also got stringy drier pieces from the thinner slabs of meat. Don't get me wrong, this is a good sandwich and people love it for a reason, but it isn't really something that fits my palate. Give it a shot, but definitely take it with peppers if you can handle it and I'd recommend a half pound of meat over the full pound. Brisket on Rye - I only had a bite because my boys inhaled their sandwiches, but this one worked a lot better for me. Just because the bread is softer and the shape contains the meat better, it was easier to get a perfect bite of this one with all the fixins. Great sandwich and the first one to hold the distinction of solidly defeating my little one. He was napping in the car after this bad boy. Calamansi Lemonade - Anything calamansi is great and this is no exception. Very refreshing. Great lemonade overall. The hype is real. Finally made it out to Gold Banh in Glendora, and I can see what all the talk is about. I tried Tom's Famous Pastrami and it was an easy 10/10.
