I had a very disappointing experience at Gold Coffee (491 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10016) in Murray Hill. I ordered an avocado toast and what I received was honestly shocking. The toast was completely burned -- black and bitter. On top of that, it was covered with what looked like soggy seaweed along with feta cheese that didn't taste fresh. The avocado itself was not fresh either; it had a watery, liquid consistency like the kind that comes from a large wholesale container rather than a freshly prepared avocado spread. The overall result was unhealthy, poorly prepared, and frankly disgusting. For a place that markets itself as a quality coffee shop, the food quality was extremely disappointing. I couldn't finish it. I would not recommend ordering food here unless they seriously improve their ingredient quality and basic preparation standards. read more

Just a walk from grand central- midtown east area; lives up to Eastern European standards of interior and service- really clean, comfortable, staff is always efficient and everything is freshly made. (Not to be confused with Gold coffee, a brand Golden Ratio,) , I had a regular drip coffee at Gold Coffee. For an independent coffee shop the quality was terrible. No complexity and with a chemical aftertaste. They are open to 8PM every day which is later than a few others in the area such as Blank Street ) (3rd Ave, cl. 4PM) and Perk (37th off 3rd, cl. 5PM) or Charlotte Cafe (2nd Ave, cl. 7: 30) (all excellent quality). I'm not a coffee snob I can even tolerate a Dunkin Donuts coffee occasionally but this Gold coffee was under that, I took a few sips and tossed it. Maybe it was a one time situation but you can be the one to give it second chance. The only thing that could save Gold's is to start selling a known reputable brand like Stumptown and wait a couple of years before attempting their own. Or less expensively just buy Whole Foods' "Pleasant Morning Buzz", that is a good value, just don't label it . New York has so much good quality coffee we can't be fooled. read more
