As someone born and raised in the New Jersey / New York metro area, I've spent the last 12 years living in northwest Connecticut--where good bagels, proper deli culture, and something as sacred as Taylor ham are spoken about like folklore passed down through generations. So when work brought me to Katonah, my first move--before coffee, before common sense--was a full sprint to Goldberg's. Let me say this: the experience was equal parts exhilarating and comforting... like running into an old friend who still makes things the way they're supposed to be made. I went for a sampler of my personal classics. The everything bagel? Phenomenal. The chew, the texture, the flavor--it transported me straight back home. The scallion cream cheese was easily one of the best I've had. If I had a complaint, it's that the bagel leaned a bit heavy on the salt. And yes, I did the unthinkable and left some of the outer layer behind. I know. I'm not proud of it. Next up: the chicken salad and coleslaw--my deli litmus tests. If you like deli, the food is fine but the staff is unhelpful and slow. :( I got an everything bagel sandwich with egg and cheese which was ok. It was toasted. They also had latkes which were twice as salty as they needed to be. Food was pricey for what it was. My biggest gripe though was that the cashiers here were unkind. Nobody took our order when we got there even after waiting in line for several minutes (4 staff members were there right in front of us and there were no other customers). We asked if we could order and were rudely just stared at even after we mentioned we had a train to catch. We also asked if they had apple sauce for the latkes, and they said no, and suggested Ranch dressing instead (this is a common deli pairing). Located in the Katonah Shopping Center. Usually there is plenty of parking. The inside is pretty small but a bagel store doesn't need to be large. The ladies who work here are outstanding, they are very friendly and are hard workers. I have ordered from Goldberg's almost every day from two months (For 7+ guys). The food is made quick too, usually within 5-10 minutes. The staff has yet to make a single mistake. The bagels here are delicious, they have a soft interior and a crunchy outside. The sandwiches are very good too. The prices are a little steep but it is in Katonah, and I would gladly pay it knowing my order is always going to be correct. I returned home to Westchester this past week for the first time since summer 2019. My GF and I arrived at around 6am and were STARVING. Fortunately this place is open at that hour and available for delivery on doordash. They have essentially any breakfast sandwich you could want, and then some. I did not waste this opportunity to enjoy a breakfast sandwich on a bagel, especially from a place called GOLDBERG'S. I ordered everything whole wheat (have to get fiber from somewhere, na'mean?) with egg, cheese, and hash. Tina ordered lox with cc, if I remember correctly, on a bagel. I saw flagel and I will admit that I have no idea what the fuck that is so, naturally, I needed to add an order of that with cream cheese. We threw in an order of their freshly squeezed OJ for good measure. I will say that it did take a minute to arrive, probably at least an hour. We were salivating as we unwrapped our bounty. The regular bagel was just the thickness and texture one would expect from a NY bagel joint and filled with fluffy eggs and creamy cheese complemented perfectly by the salty hash brown. It was divine. Apparently a flagel is a flat bagel and it was invented in brooklyn in 1994 and there are heated debates regarding whether it is better than an actual bagel. Contention aside, I'll take anything remotely resembling a bagel and this was absolutely delicious with some cream cheese slathered between the two halves. Let me start this review by saying, I'm a man who loves his bagels. That being said, I'd rather be strapped between two pillars and have bagels pelted at my naked body than ever step foot in this sorry excuse for a prison cafeteria again. I have to commend the staff, however, as they have the unique ability to make every guest that comes in feel like they're the most unwelcome person in the world. It's as if they're inches from crossing the threshold of feigning pleasantries to just hurling curses and slurs at their happy, unsuspecting customers. The cashier was flat out screaming at people, throwing cash, credit cards and straws, and at one point, I literally saw her football spike a rugalach (which are about $3-$4 EACH by the way) into an elderly lady's bag so hard the lady jumped back in shock. Now, I'd gladly overlook any kind of abuse if the goods were worth the trouble, but the only thing worse than the service here is the food. By god was the food just awful. I ordered the Katonah club, a $9.00 sandwich consisting of grilled chicken, avocado, lettuce tomato and chipotle mayo. I could go on and on about how the chicken was so dry, flavorless and tough it felt fossilized, and how skimpy the sandwich itself was, but I'll let the picture do the talking. I wouldn't serve this sandwich to my worst enemy, and certainly not a paying customer. Here's a pro tip, if you're planning on eating here, please, do yourself a favor and just ram your head into the nearest garbage can or dumpster. The bagels are good and chewy and have a nice crust. Pricewise about the same as other bagel shops in this area. Overall a pretty decent bagel. We got two breakfast bagels which had fresh over medium eggs fast and delicious. We also got a dozen bagels and they ended up giving us 14 just because. The service was very friendly, they do "assist" you down the line because they are busy but they were patient and polite as we were unaware of how it worked. Total was $40 for the dozen bagels, 2 breakfast sandwiches, 3, (1) pound tubs of flavored cream cheese, and 2 large coffees. Will definitely return when we visit family here again. So so DISTURBING and DISAPPOINTED!!! The lady that talks extra fast with the black hair will rob you with no care because she is extra alert early in the morning. Unfortunately she caters to the local Anglo Saxon patrons instead of the regular average minority. She charged me for two items that I did not order and slammed a cash refund of $1.00 on the counter. She still owes me for another imaginary item for $3.00. She will take your card and just leave it in the machine. She only assist WHITE males. She had my items sitting on the side while she catered to 4 white males that ordered after me. Also, the extra fee for a card of $2.50 is not explained. TL;DR Very cheap deli food but the staff here is so rude! I came to Goldberg's this morning at the request of my brother who loves their bagels (even though he didn't order one this morning.) My order was a bit complicated since I had to order 4 sandwiches with specific instructions, but when I tried to do so, the staff got angry and frustrated with me and yelled at me to repeat my order. It wasn't a terribly complicated order, but kindness would have been nice. The food here is about what you'd expect for such low prices. Normal deli food.
