Was surprised to find such an authentic spot for Chinese in Oak Park!…read more I came by for a Mother's Day lunch with my family. When we arrived around 1 pm, the restaurant was maybe half full. But clearly it was popular as people were coming in constantly the entire time we were eating. Even though the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, most of the dishes on the menu were more like Sichuan dishes i.e. spicy. All of the food was super solid and portions were ginormous. My recommendation is to order 1 dish per person if you want leftovers, or order one less dish than the # of people if you want to finish most of the food. I don't handle spice very well, so we ordered a mix of spicy and non-spicy dishes. We shared the following: #1 Yunan rice noodles ($16.99) #32 scallion pancake ($8.99) #104 Chong qing fried chicken ($16.99) #107 braised pork belly with buns ($19.99) #109 boiled two items - fish and duck blood ($21.99) Given that the restaurant is called Yunnan Restaurant, we felt like we had to order one of the most popular dishes from that region, the Yunan rice noodles i.e. crossing the bridge noodles. I really enjoyed the silky smooth mixian noodles as well as the flavorful broth. The fried chicken was too spicy for me; I ate one piece and my whole mouth was on fire. Everyone else said it was quite spicy as well, so eat this in moderation unless you can really handle your spice. The 3 pepper signs next to this dish on the menu are no joke! The braised pork belly was delicious, but portions were on the smaller side for this one. Still, I enjoyed making a little bun sandwich with the pork belly and pickled veggies. The boiled fish and duck blood was also super solid. It was just a little spicy, so I was able to manage a couple pieces with the help of rice on the side. Portions were very generous for this dish. We all ate lots of fish and duck blood and still had a ton left to take home. They also have some precooked 涼菜, i.e. cold dishes, on the side you can buy for dine-in or to go. We got 3 of the meats - pork tongue, pork head, and and beef tripe, to go. Paid $16.99 for a huge box of these meats. We thought this was a steal too. Can't wait to try some at home!

Top notch authentic southern Chinese food…read more The yunnan rice noodle was beyond delicious, kind of like a Chinese pho with silky Chinese noodle This is definitely one of the best Chinese restaurant in the area I use to goto the original Monterey Park location back in college, and now Being able to get it here is definitely a win! Servers are extremely friendly and the dinning area is clean and spacious Also the cold Togo items at the front are super authentic and delicious as well, perfect pairing with some cold beer Must try gem in the area 10 outta 10

I've eaten at Lakeview Garden quite a few times, and I want to be fair right from the start. Our…read morefirst several orders were actually very good. The food was flavorful, the portions were generous, and it felt like the kitchen cared about what they were sending out. Unfortunately, today's experience was the complete opposite--and disappointing enough that I felt the need to leave this review. Order #1: Broccoli Beef The beef was largely fatty, chewy, and very rough to eat. It honestly felt like low-quality cuts that shouldn't have been served at all. The broccoli itself was undercooked, leaving it hard rather than tender. To make matters worse, the brown sauce was overly thick and completely lacking in flavor. It added nothing to the dish and only highlighted how poorly executed it was. Order #2: Chicken Chow Mein This dish was even more disappointing. The chicken portion was not even half of what it was just a few months ago, which was immediately noticeable. The noodles were smaller, dry, and bland, and the entire dish had absolutely no taste. No seasoning, no depth--just food going through the motions. This brings me to a larger issue that I've noticed not just here, but at many restaurants lately: to-go orders are not being treated with the same care as dine-in meals. It feels like once the food leaves the building, quality and pride go out the window. That should never be the case. People are still spending real money on these meals. We spent over $40 on today's order, and quite frankly, it was inedible. That's unacceptable. When customers are spending $40-$50 on takeout, the food should still be made with care, attention, and pride--just like it would be if it were being served at a table. To give the restaurant a chance to address the issue, I called and spoke with the manager before writing this review. Unfortunately, that interaction was just as disappointing. She offered a brief "sorry," seemed completely uninterested in the feedback, and made no real effort to address the situation or make it right. It felt dismissive and left me with the impression that customer satisfaction simply wasn't a priority. I genuinely hope management reads this and takes it seriously. This place used to be good, which is why this experience is so frustrating. Please remind the kitchen that every order matters, especially takeout. People are choosing to spend their hard-earned money here, and they deserve food that's prepared with care and respect. Based on this experience, I will not be returning or spending my hard-earned money at Lakeview Garden again.

We finished with the Mango Sticky Rice, which was the perfect sweet ending. We also tried their new summer specials--the Pineapple Mojito and Butterfly Pea Tea. The dishes tasted super authentic, and we enjoyed all of them. I feel like for the pad thai, the flavor wasn't in the noodles itself since there wasn't a lot of color to them so I was skeptical, but it was in the sauce instead and the noodles absorbed it right up after a while. Both dishes weren't super salty which is usually an issue with other places I visit! The tom yum thai noodle soup was my personal favorite. It had a perfect sweet and sour balance. I loved the variety of fish cakes in the soup. Portion size was generous with the noodle soup but smaller for the other two dishes, but we still had plenty of leftovers. I noticed a lot of other customers ordering the thai tea, so I'll definitely have to try that next time. Can't wait to come back!
