This is my go-to spot in Albuquerque for Chinese! I have been going here for years - always choosing delivery. Today I decided to pickup my Mei Fun (which is a staple for me) and tofu with fresh vegetables. Wondering how I'd feel about the food after going there in person, I took a chance. The place is small, cute, clean, and bustling. The staff is friendly and I'm glad I went to visit. They give you a load of food so you'll be able to treat yourself to leftovers. The Shimp or Vegetable Mei Fun is the best. Never had it anywhere before. I find Lo Mein to be too thick of a noodle for me lately and this is almost like Pho noodle meets Lo Mein. Give it a try. Found this place while walking around the mall for extra steps! It's been tough to find an "authentic tasting" asian restaurant in ABQ and Golden Chopsticks seems to hit the spot. We ordered the sesame chicken and beef noodle soup. Came by on a Wednesday night around 6 and there was a line! Seems like most people order online or call in their orders with not too many people placing orders as a walk in. They have a few tables for dining in but most are empty. It has a very hole in the wall feel to it which is why most people prolly get their food to go. To be clear, we were surprised the beef noodle soup was so good! We really didn't expect that because it's actually tough to get the beef and the broth right but they did! The beef was tender and the soup had a decent amount of depth. What was a bit disappointing was the sesame chicken which could have been a bit crispier and a little sweeter. I'm giving it 3 stars even though the beef noodle was a 4 star but I'd have to come back and try more dishes to see if it is a solid 4 or not. read more

Golden Chopsticks, a longstanding small family-run strip mall joint with some inside seating that I've only seen being used once in a couple of decades, is sort of the living definition of "It's OK." The food is relatively inexpensive and ready really quick after ordering (order online, it'll be ready by the time you drive over there). It's . . . what you'd expect to find a strip mall between two affluent subdivisions in the foothills of Albuquerque. (Looking over some of these Yelp reviews, I'm somewhat amused at the people who appear to be seeking the second incarnation of Mr. Jiu's in this improbable location.) Golden Chopsticks serves hot food fast for not a ton of money. It has never made us sick, and we've never seen anything at all unclean about the place. The food does not taste as good as what I remember from when I was a kid on Long Island, but it's better than what I could get when I was a prosecutor in Farmington 30 years ago. It's been around for a long time (we've lived in this house for 25 years - I know Golden Chopsticks has been here for 20-ish) and it's solidly patronized by denizens of High Desert and Tanoan who are looking for . . . fast, takeout food of this style. (We have found their egg foo yung - especially the vegetable one - to be better than some other entrees.) As an act of good will during this 24/7-being-around-each-other-non-stop-times I agreed to get Chinese food and saw this place recommended not too far from us. You know...not bad, in fact, pretty darn good. I have to give them a shout out too for going above and beyond during this crazy times and how they handled the whole pickup process. You call and place your order, you do Apple Pay at pick up and they hand you your order without having to go in. Easy peasy. The lunch special was an awesome bargain- huge portions (2 meals, easy) with soup for around $6. I got the Kung Pao chicken (still looking for one as good as Ko Palace...RIP) and it was decent and I'd get it again. Lots of chicken, good amount of veggies. The hot & sour soup was pretty good as well and they gave a separate bag of tasty crispy wonton strips which I appreciated. Hubby got the Orange Chicken...I wasn't a fan of it. I couldn't pin point what it was but it was a little bland but almost had an old fryer oil taste to it but I'm not sure. The combination of the reasonable price and how conscientious they were about the no/minimal contact pick up really makes them stand out. The menu was also fairly extensive. Just moved to the neighborhood so we decided to try this place because it's so close. Ordered for pickup via Uber Eats which went smoothly- I didn't have to talk to anyone and order was ready 5 minutes after the app said it would be. Lady who bagged my order was nice and friendly. The food itself was pretty good- nothing amazing but good enough that we'll probably keep ordering because it's convenient. The general tso we got was the smaller portion that comes with an egg roll. The chicken pieces had a good amount of chicken and it wasn't all disguised dough like a lot of other Chinese restaurants. It also had the perfect amount of sauce- enough to flavor but not swimming in a sticky pool. All the rice both white and brown was cooked to tender perfection and tasted freshly made. The boyfriend and I both thought the egg foo young was just ok. I think neither of us really care for egg foo young so it's probably just our personal palate. The seafood dish on fried noodles was disappointing. It's advertised and having "shrimp, scallop, lobster, and crab meat" but in reality, it has shrimp, two little pieces of scallops, and a bunch of fake crabmeat. I don't mind imitation crab. What I don't like is expecting lobster and crab but getting imitation crab meat. I shouldn't known better because the price for the dish didn't reflect real seafood but I took a chance and here we are. I didn't care for the fried noodles underneath either- a weird combo of crunchy outside then soggy the longer it absorbed the sauce. My friends kept insisting I should try this place for months, and after following their advice I can't say I regret doing it. You can get some delicious Chinese food here. I totally recommend their dinner combos. I love the portions in their dinner options, I would say that the 3-people family dinner can feed 4 and the 4-people one can feed 5. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to google "Chow mein vs lo mein" and see that BOTH are noodle dishes. Y'all need to work on your customer service. Putting the confusion of the dish aside, the flavor was seriously lacking. Not worth the money we spent. Ordered the chow mein and the general Tsos chicken. We were confused when the chow mein didn't have any noodles. We figured we got the wrong order when we tried the chicken and figured it was actually orange chicken. We called and were informed that no, we got the correct order. The chow mein just comes with some fried wontons on the side not noodles. Since when is Chow Mein not a noodle dish? The person we spoke to wasn't very nice and told us that he told us about the noodles when we called to order despite the fact that we ordered online and have never spoken to him before. The chow mein was bland boiled chicken and cabbage, zero flavor. The general tsos chicken was a just pure sugar and orange food coloring. We won't be back. read more

Wow, this place was hoping on Friday night! GC is a small Chinese restaurant in the Albertson's shopping at Tramway & Academy. I was hungry for Chinese and did not want to drive far so I thought well I will just jump in the car, get some takeout and back home in minutes! WRONG! This is a quiet upscale shopping center so you never think about not getting a parking space, at least that's what I thought. But, trying to get close was a bit of a wait. Inside GC it was a scene of a bustling family cooking, packaging take outs, taking orders, and serving the few tables inside. They hustled in harmony, young teens, mom, pop, & more! The smell was delicious and fresh. I got my small order taken and was told 35 minutes-Really! The fried pot stickers were a delightful surprise, as well as the Szchuan beef. Quality has been consistent, they're very efficient, and they have great prices. You call to place an order for pick up, and they give you a wait time (it's never been longer than 15 minutes for me). When you go in, you provide your phone number, pay, and then you have your food and you're out the door. It's that easy. This is clearly a family-run establishment and I appreciate their friendly service both over the phone and in person. I've tried the chicken lo mein, which I really liked, and the sesame chicken, which was okay. It all made pretty good leftovers for the next day. I've also tried the egg rolls and they didn't wow me but were still good. This is a great fast casual Chinese restaurant. I like these types of places because you usually know what to expect in terms of the food. We order from this place once every few weeks. The lunch specials are great! The vegetables and meat are fresh and made to order. The lunch special seems to include fried rice as a default. We had beef and broccoli, chicken with string beans and chicken lo mein. They are pretty quick at getting the order ready. It is typical American Chinese food. This is the best Chinese restaurant in Albuquerque. You can't tell by the outside or the inside. Every dish we have ever gotten has just been delicious. Orange beef, sesame chicken, the wonton soup is very good, with a broth you can't get outside New York since the Bamboo House closed. They are also the fastest I have ever seen. Yes , it is a very small operation. But the care in preparation and the freshness of the ingredients are exceptional. A favorite is Moo Shi pork which matches anything we had at the famous Joyce Chen's Restaurant in Boston back in the day. If you like spicy, ask for anything Szechuen (and ask for extra spice). Where do I start? I had to wait until today (Thursday) from what happened on this past Saturday. I knew whatever I wrote would be less than polite, professional, or even legible! The older lady that works there, I'm assuming the owner or one of, was rude. Not just rude to me but rude to everyone! Trying to get service (and they were NOT busy) was like twisting the arm of a flexible adult! Questions were answered with grunts or one word answers and then you could barely hear the response. The place was a bit dirty! Now moving on to the food.....HORRIBLE! Fried rice sucked and that is like a staple! How can you screw that up? Chow mein was a joke! As a white guy with no cooking skills, I could cook better! The bill was over $50 for just two of us. What a disappointing experience! Just a flat out disaster of an experience!
