My husband and I finally decided to try this place since the owner of Sushi Xuan recommended it. Boy, what a disappointment! First off, we ordered the vegetable egg rolls for an appetizer, I do not recommend them since they are frozen ones. They were tasteless while the interior of these rolls were mushy, though the duck sauce was quite tasty it could not overcome these appetizers. Our entrees came next, my husband asked about the serving size and he was told a plate only fed one person, not true. The plate serves two. Anyway, the Kung Pao Chicken has really good flavor, was spicy and served with a side of steamed white rice. My husband's entree was Orange Chicken and nothing spectacular about it. But what will keep us from ever going back was that as we sat in the restaurant eating I started to smell cigarette smoke. It became more pronounced and I realized they were smoking in the kitchen and had the door open to where we were sitting. With that revelation my husband quickly got us out of there...the cigarette smoking inside the kitchen is a total dealbreaker. read more

We were feeling Chinese food so I decided to try this new place,,, new to us anyway. We started with the teriyaki chicken, a couple of vegetable egg rolls a bowl of egg flour soup, Kung pow beef with steamed rice and an extra side of steamed vegetables. I have to say the vegetable egg rolls were good and tasty although they could've been a little crispier, they were still pretty decent.. the teriyaki chicken was a little dry, but the flavor was really good and the Kung pow beef was exceptional with the right amount of heat and the flavor was spot on. I have to say we enjoyed the whole meal but need to point out the egg flour soup stood out, not only within this meal, but in most soups that we have had. read more

Okay, a friend got me to revisit after a gap of a couple years - and it's improved. Nio Szechuan (as it's spelled on the sign and the menu, but not on Yelp) has delicious fresh food, and it comes out pretty fast. Service was quite good on this trip - friendly, smiling and attentive. The room seemed clean this time (no weird smells, either) although there are still kid paw prints on the front window (Please, Lord: tell me they're not the same ones as two years ago?). They appear to have gotten a beer and wine license. The food is still great, 5-star: perhaps the best I've had in this market in this particular cuisine (and the local folks who grew up with the cuisine are well represented in the clientele - usually getting to-go orders: note that the daily specials board are always posted in Chinese). The prices appear to be exactly the same as they were two years ago - they were really high at that time but are kinda average for a good place these days. read more

First time trying this place out. It's hard to find some good Chinese around here. I feel like all the good Chinese food places I used to hit up are now unfortunately not as good as they used to be. So now I long for a great well seasoned fried rice and tender chicken. On a whim I decided to give these guys a try. I ordered the fried dumplings and the chicken fried rice. The dumplings were a bit bland and lacked seasoning. The fried rice unfortunately was the same. It really lacked flavor. The pieces of chicken on the other hand were very tender and juicy. It really helped save the show. Overall the food was ok. It really lacked flavor which unfortunately was disappointing for me. I was really hoping to find a new go to get my Chinese food fix. My first visit to this establishment was January 22, 2026. There is good parking and signage. The decor is relaxed, and the wait person was pleasant and efficient. I arrived shortly after one, so I think the lunch crowd had dissipated. I was seated immediately. There's a very nice lunchtime menu and the prices here are excellent. Once again, I went with General Tso's chicken. Lunch included, steamed rice, egg drop soup, and an egg roll. The egg drop soup was excellent and had a nice thickness to the broth. The egg roll was small, but very tasty. Nice plumb sauce or dipping sauce to go with it. Nice portion of steamed rice. General Phil's chicken had nice small crispy pieces and a tender inside. Real good portion sizes and a delightful staff, what more could you ask for? My coworker and I split a BBQ Pork Lo Mein, House Fried Rice, General Tso's Chicken and some Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp. The General Tso's chicken was outstanding. Mongolian Beef also fantastic. Wasn't particularly a fan of the flavor on the walnut shrimp, but putting the spicy chili on it drastically improved the taste. I've only ordered food to go here. Service is usually fast and prices are average. The egg rolls were kinda small but the sauce was good. My partner said his fried rice didn't have much flavor despite ordering it spicy. My Kung pao chicken was ok it had flavor but wish it had more variety of vegetables it was mostly bell pepper and onion. Visited Neo Szechuan Restaurant on 7200 Montgomery yesterday after a long hike in CIbola Forest. This was my second time there. The first, I was slightly disappointed that they used a more 'americanized' pepper rather than szechuan peppercorns. The beef dish was still good-actually very good and clean tasting. The lady who served us recognized the peppercorns I was after and said they had them, so I was determined to ask for them this time around. Let me tell you-they did not disappoint yesterday. I had made a door dash order and received the wrong food. When I called the so called restaurant to tell them about half my order being wrong, the manager was very rude and said thats what I ordered. I explained to him I would never order a spicy dish. He said I did. I looked over the menu again, called him back to let him know, that it was wrong. He told me that it was not his problem. When I asked to speak to the manager, he told me he is the manager and continued to be very rude. I could NOT enjoy the wrong meal because of the spice. Went back for another try, left quite disappointed. Nanjing Salted Duck - 2/5 I was able to eat a few pieces of this, but it seemed like quite a poor representation of the dish. This dish is supposed to be salted with Chinese pepper corns, anise and other spices. This one tasted solely of salt. No one else in my party wanted a second piece after trying it. Wor Wonton Soup - 1/5 Wor wonton soup is a wonton soup with "everything" in it. This one contained extra chicken, broccoli, cabbage, and a bit of shrimp. Unfortunately the broth was rather unpleasant. My partner, who did not have any of the chicken, found it unpleasantly salty as well. Seafood Bean Curd Soup - 3/5 A thickened soup with a seafood base, egg, and small bits of tofu. Plain and hearty. I enjoyed this one, but also found it slightly too salty. Beef Chow Fun - 3/5 A fairly standard representation of this dish. Thick flat noodles in brown sauce. Good, but my party also found this too salty. Although we didn't even come close to finishing the duck, the amount of salt in the food hit us so hard that we took a 4 hour nap afterwards and woke up still tasting salt. We ordered shrimp fried rice and Thai iced tea. Upon searching the pile of fried rice for shrimp, I found 6 small shrimp--they charge $17.00 for this? I couldn't believe it so I called to ask how many shrimp come in the shrimp fried rice and was told it was 6. I expressed my displeasure with the number of shrimp in comparison to the heaping pile of fried rice in correlation to the price, and got off the phone. The lady called me back to ask if there was anything else she could help me with, and I told her again that charging $17 for 6 shrimp and almost a pound of rice is highway robbery. I let her know that I know that she heard what I said when I called. so her call back was unnecessary. The Thai tea was underwhelming. It was neither rich, creamy, sweet and there was no spice. I like Neo Szechuan! It' one of the very few places in ABQ that I can count that actually offer authentic Chinese food! Sure, I can always have American Chinese food...but..once in a while...a spot deep inside of me..calls for something not super sweet ..and actually flavorful! That's where Neo Szechuan can come in. You can tell it's authentic by the fact that some of the specials on the menu are written in Chinese language. Now, that's confidence.beacuse only people familiar witth Chinese food would know how to read/what to expect! I had their Salt and Pepper Shrimp and Singapore noodles (sidetrack...which...actually originated in Hong Kong..not Singapore) and thought both dishes tasted wonderful! Full of spices that I had been wanting! I would have them again in a heartbeat..but maybe..next time..to try some other dishes like the dry szechuan hot pot,etc! Overall, great places for sure. It takes a while to get your food..but it's worth waiting. The only thing is...the prices aren't low either. It's definitely more expensive than what I was expecting. I went to this place to fulfill a chicken fried rice craving, so I ordered a chicken and shrimp fried rice with green onions added and a Mongolian beef plate. The chicken fried rice was average and i had to add soy sauce and some season to it because it just lacks flavor. The Mongolian beef was dumped with a lot of garlic and the beef was extremely chewy that it bothered me and I couldn't finish it. Dont think that meat was real beef because beef should not be that chewy. Takes me to the conspiracy of Chinese food meat ingredients, where people say it's more a rodent then beef. The chicken didnt give me that experience but now i wonder what type of meat that was. Drinks arrive and we get the Spicy Chile Shrimp Pork Wontons. Yep, spicy as advertised but delicious. Our entrees were the Szechuan Scallops & Mongolian Beef. They're served up family style with a bowl of rice each. Scallops are excellent, plenty on the plate nice sized - about 1" thick & as big as a $0.50 piece. Lots of bell peppers & onion. Again spicy - about a medium. The Mongolian Beef included a large portion of beef and a few onions. Also medium spicy & flavorful. The portion size of our food meant lunch the next day.
