Felt and looked like an old-fashioned buffet. It didn't really have any of the staple items of a typical golden corral buffet that stands alone. There was only one hand sanitizing station near the front so I constantly had to walk back to the front sanitize my hands before eating my meal. This is actually a four-star review, but the nasty reviews on here aren't warranted so I'm trying to change the algorithm. I haven't been in a Golden corral for probably two decades. So I was pretty excited to have supper here. I'm not too sure, what difference it makes that is connected to the flying j truck stop? Do regular people think that truck stops are just full of filth? I mean some of them are, but this isn't one of them. It shouldn't really make a difference what a business is connected to, because it's an independent entity. I walked in in the late evening, place was super busy. Now I'm going to digress a bit, but with buffets the ABSOLUTE OPTIMAL TIME to go to a buffet is when it is busy and packed. The more people, the more food they cook, the more fresh food comes out. If you go into a buffet trying to avoid the crowd, you're not going to get the freshest food available, because they're not going to be cooking for 200 people, with only 15 in the restaurant, so keep that in mind. I think that's where some of these bad reviews come in. Anyhow, you pay up front and order your drink. The kid at the register was kind of strange, but that's just youngsters in the workforce these days. It didn't dawn on me until afterwards, but they ask you if you want cash back, and it's for the tip for the girl that gets your soda and cleans your plates. I went back after the fact and just had the nice kid put five bucks on my card and give me cash so I could give her some gratuity. While we're on the subject of her, she was super nice, kept my drinks full, kept my table cleared, and was constantly cleaning and sweeping the floor the entire time I was there. and AND we're interacting with literally all of the customers, which I found pretty impressive. She's obviously a local gal, and personally knew some of the patrons. That's huge for me, so maybe this is a five star review. I noticed a couple other girls constantly cleaning and sweeping also. I didn't order any custom grilled steaks, or anything like that, but I did manage to cover probably at least 80% of the buffet itself. Everything from salads, to soups, to dumplings, to dessert, to the rest of the food. Did I absolutely love every single thing I got? Not particularly. But in an overall general sense everything was absolutely great. The place was packed, which means they were constantly bringing out fresh trays of food. Probably everything that I got, was hot and fresh. The only thing that look like it was sitting there for a good while was the chili, but then again, who actually eats chili? Gross. I guess the decorum is your typical golden corral. Like I said I haven't been in one in over 20 years, but they had typical signage, a ton of tables, which were mostly taken, I actually had to seek a table out in the back because they were so busy but they were also playing country music which was nice. I am a super foodie, I've owned a bar and grill, and I cook a lot of food and smoke a lot of meat when I'm home, so don't listen to these other reviews. Just keep in mind that it's important that you go when it's busiest, that's when you'll get the best experience, and the freshest food. Tah tah for now my little festerlings!! The food is relatively ok. The issue I have is the salad I love their salad bar. Lately the lettuce has been brown on edges its just terrible. The shrimp ha ÷it been cleaned you can see the black line which is poop still there so I cant eat those. But my biggest issue is I want to see fresh lettuce or just stop serving it period. Ok this place isn't total shit, but honestly what are you expecting when you walk into a Golden Corral with a front door that opens into a truck stop convenience store? The good is that generally speaking most of the things they shouldn't fuck up weren't fucked up - that means the fried chicken, the wings, even the fried shrimp were all cooked fine. The mashed potatoes, veggies, gravy were all fine. What's not great are the limp salads, rubbery steaks (again what did you expect) as well as some rather inconsistent pot roast (sometimes tender sometimes dry as hell) as well as some really poorly cleaned premises (the Cole slaw area was pretty vile and the dessert section was very messy). The servers were fine, most people were honestly just there to grab a meal and nothing more, with about 1/2 of the folks being solo truck drivers and the other 1/2 being mostly families on a road trip somewhere on I-95. The bathrooms here were kinda nasty - mainly because of the very large amount of foot traffic this convenience store/gas station gets and sadly the restaurant shares the same facilities. My family is essentially all dead. Kinda sucks. But because of this, it's easier to just go here on Thanksgiving. And they do a good job at making everybody feel welcomed. Food is what it is, a buffet is basic Thanksgiving foods. Wish steak didn't get the axe for the turkey though, as I do enjoy their steak very much. Sweet potatoes are very good. The food overall was great! BUT ALL OF THE PLATES WHERE NASTY.... Cleans plates should NOT have yellow/orange stains on literally all of their plates and same with the small bowl... literally I went through 10 different plates/bowls till I found a clean one. And no I'm not a germophobe... throw the stained nasty plates away please and teach your dishwasher how to properly clean so no food residue is left over... My server she was great!!! It seems theyFlying Jack converted existing other food service restaurant in their this gas station/ convenience/ restaurant concept. Aisle for select of items are narrow and require " excuse me' to move around. Selection of salad components are in one isle so I had good time getting what I wanted as well as small selections of desserts . Other veg item without pork added beans/ rice/ cooked veggies are almost none. Yet those other baked cooked fried meat items as I noticed are about same as other stores. First time to any buffet since this pandemic,on my way home to NY from SC. My family wanted to stop at a Golden Corral for brunch. Our server was very attentive , the food was excellent for a buffet, the only thing I could not swallow (sorry for the pun) the plates are atrocious with stains,cut marks and stains ,they're clean but don't look like it. I took 20 minutes to find 4 clean plates without any stains or cut marks on them and kept them with me through my entire visit. Maybe they even should consider paper plates. So be prepared to hunt for plates that will make you feel comfortable eating off. read more

When you have to enter through a convenience store, you know you're in for a sub-par experience. The servers were nice. The rest of dinner not so much. The fried chicken was good, the shrimp decent if not plentiful. The steak was tough, the pot roast dry, the meat loaf wasn't very good. Ribs had no flavor. There was no baked chicken, no ham and no chocolate fountain. Pulled pork was "disgusting" according to the Mrs. She also said the carrots sucked. Had a visit at the Golden Corral ion Elkton, Maryland. Although it was small in there it was very nice. The staff there was very nice and professional. Our waitress checked on us for our drinks; although we didn't need refills. The temperature of the food was ver good. I definitely enjoyed their dumplings from the chicken and dumplings. Food has been good in past (always Fridays). But I had to make my weekly visit on Tuesday and everything was terrible. Cold, dried out, and overcooked. Although I arrived soon after their opening time it was as though the food had been out in turned off steam trays for many hours. Was this food left over from the previous day? We really didn't know what to expect. Haven't been here in years. Decided to give it a try, as it is the closest Golden Corral to our home. We were not disappointed. I think it's important to adjust your expectations to what this is and is not. Do not expect a modern spacious Golden Corral. This is not that. It is a smallish restaurant in a Flying J truck stop. There were plenty of truckers in trucker tshirts and radio headsets, along with a mix of local families. That being said, we had no trouble getting a table on a Friday night for dinner. The food was replenished regularly. And it was good. No complaints at all. Our waitress was excellent and kept the drink refills coming. Despite it being inside a rest stop, we had a pretty good experience here. For a Sunday night, it wasn't very busy so getting a table was no problem. The food was good and the temperature was good for what me and my boys ate. My steak was cooked well (kudos to the young cook there) and the kids enjoyed their food (they're picky eaters). Check in guy was friendly & helpful (this was my 1st time at a Golden Coral so i had a couple questions). My drink was instantly refilled any time it dropped below half & my empty plates were cleared every time i got up for another. The grill guy was helpful & cooked my steak exactly as requested. All buffet tables were well kept: clean & items stayed full even during a rush. I was so pleased with my experience, i left a 50% tip. I hope they share across all staff. This Golden Corral is inside a Flying J truck stop. That's probably a red flag in itself but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. My mistake. First, the cashier punched in 3 regular adult buffets without even asking. One was supposed to be a senior buffet. When told that, the cashier bluntly said that she couldn't correct it because she had already pushed the cash button. What. The. Hell? The food ranged from subpar to very subpar. It's worse now than I remember from a previous visit. The baked fish had been sitting in the steam tray long enough to form a voting bloc. Seriously, it had formed a plasticy surface and was stuck to the pan. The pot roast, which they claim has been cooked for 12 hours, looked like it had been left there at least as long. I remember when this place had 3 fountains too: one chocolate, one caramel, and one white chocolate. Now, they are down to just the chocolate fountain. Also, they don't have self-serve beverages so you have to flag a server down for that, which is an inconvenience at a buffet. The final inconvenience: To use the restroom, you actually have to leave the restaurant and go to the Flying J section. Better hope those have been cleaned. read more

This Golden Corral is pretty bad. Just to beware, It is connected to a gas station. 1. Interior: the interior smells pretty funky. Like mildew. 2. Cleanliness: maybe 80% of the plates are dirty. The mushrooms, sitting in liquid butter sauce, had flecks of black dirt on it. Pretty gross. All the pots and floors in the back kitchen are filthy. 3. Steak: the steak was sitting on a metal bucket all precooked and stacked up on top of each other to stay warm. When ordering for medium, they would spray oil on it and "flash cook" it on the grill. 4. Freshness: All veggies look really bad. 5. Price: expensive for what it is. 13.99 before tax. Overall: 0 stars. Please avoid this restaurant, it is not worth the cost or the calories. It likely won't improve given the low volume. read more
