Golden Corral has something for everyone with its extensive buffet offerings. Hubby and I stopped here for a late lunch on our way home after visiting with friends. Entrees include fried chicken, fried fish, meatloaf, Asian stir fries, BBQ, and many more. There are lots of veggies including mashed potatoes, green beans, baked beans, fried okra, etc. There is an extensive salad bar with multiple types of lettuce, toppings, and other salads such as seafood, broccoli and pasta. And there is an extensive selection of desserts including soft serve ice cream, pies, cobbler, and pudding. The server who brings and refills the drinks seemed to have regulars who sit in her section and she was very attentive to us as well. She even offered to get us coffee for our desserts, including decaf for me! It's not a cafeteria, but the buffet and seating areas have that kind of feel. Absolutely amazing service this evening. My partner and I went to Golden corral this evening as an alternative to greasy fried fat food. The restaurant was able to see us immediately and the server was very attentive throughout the dining experience. The meal was great, there was a tremendous variety to choose from at the buffet and all items were constantly refilled with nothing left empty. The steak was mediocre but, let's face it, this is not Texas roadhouse and that's OK. we enjoy coming to Golden corral in Johnson City versus the other location to the north. The Hispanic girl who came to the register was rude and obnoxious. Very unfriendly and unprofessional. Rolled her eyes when I asked her to redo our ticket because she didn't give us the Senior discount. She whined, "It's ONLY A DOLLAR ". I didn't appreciate her attitude. Just do your job and accommodate your customers. We had a party of 4. Our table was never cleaned off and we didn't get drink refills. July 2020: Traveling through Johnson City, and we're sportin' a serious appetite for reliable, dependable home cooking and hospitable service. We typically stay, relax and enjoy the surroundings in the dining room, but our furbabies are on the road with us - so, take out it is! The manager Randy, greeted me quickly and showed me the ropes of take-out style. Since our visit is during COVID, the layout of the restaurant displayed appropriate distancing rules. Very clean and organized! Signs are easy to follow. The take out containers are strong and hold plenty for a big appetite! At only $5.99 per lb, it is still the best deal for great selection of delicious dishes. We are continuously impressed with quality and quantity here. Okay. I stopped going to this restaurant about 2-3 years ago, i think, because the food was so-so. However, my wife and I visited 3 months ago and was pleasantly surprised at how much better this restaurant has gotten. I found out that a new owner took over 1-2 years ago. We have been coming back here about once a week since then. The fried fish is fantastic here, and the sweet potato casserole is wonderful, although i wish you guys would put it back by the fish. I like the Mexican rice as well. Some items are rather blah... my own opinion is they need to change the recipe of the teryaki chicken, but it's obvious others like it. I'm flabbergasted that this location averages 2 stars. I've been to many Golden Corrals and this was, by far, the best one I've ever been to. The food was fresh and constantly being refilled. Service was outstanding. Flavor and choices at lunchtime were awesome. Many more options than our local GC. Our server could not have been more attentive. We visited 3 days ago and I'm still waiting on the owner to contact me about my refund. This place is just yuck. Almost everything on the bar was old and just sitting. Even the gravy turned back into jello form because it was so cold. I only picked up fried things for my kids thinking that the hot grease would ensure proper temperature but all of the food just had grease soaked in the bottom. My kids wouldn't eat the fried chicken, that's saying something. No fried things for us. The manager was in the salad bar prepping and also wiping down items in the restaurant and doing everything else without washing her hands. No salad for us. I saw they were grilling ribs (reheating them to their optimum toughness) so I decided to give it a try. On my second attempt, after they made some "just for me", two bites revealed that they were trying to poison me. Bloody pork. No more anything for us. I asked for a refund and I was told that too much time had passed. Well waiting for you to make edible food would take some time. After serving 4 small children, there was no way to know you'd try to kill me. I now have a deep appreciation for the Cumming, GA location. My husband and I are seniors and usually catch your senior special. Today because of traffic and a late dental appt we arrive 30 minutes late at 4:30. Our bill for 2 old people that don't eat that much was $33 and change. We always leave a tip, so our meal total was $36. The manager or main person at the register was gleefully happy to tell us we were too late for senior time. All this would have been tolerable if the food had been tasty and good and hot. Everything was mediocre at best. It's hard to mess up cornbread but here again it was cold and taste like cake. Cornbread in the South DOES NOT HAVE SUGAR. Mexican cornbread was too spicy. I am giving Golden Corral a four star rating not because I think the food is the best but it is a very good value and the couple of times I have eaten here I was impressed by a few things. Employees and their attitude toward customers is everything in the service business. One employee I have allot of respect for is the cook that was responsible for my omelet - you could tell he took pride in cooking good food and had a great attitude. Every Time I have been back he had the same glad to serve you smile and hello. Made me feel welcome and told me how much pride they have in cooking fresh food - granted it is only as fresh as how often it is brought to the buffet but I avoided anything that did not look fresh and at night they cook steaks to order and they are decent quality. When you enter you pay in advance and I recommend you look for coupons to save off of the fixed price fair. The cashier gave a nice greeting and explained how everything worked. They have table servers that take away dishes and give you new ones and even will refill iced tea - I made sure that I left a tip - I had the feeling that they many times don't get one. Overall I would say it is a good value - the desserts were fresh and tasted good. I can see if you arrive at the wrong time the cashier line can be long and the food might not be as fresh but I found this location to be pretty decent and a good value with a coupon. read more

My first time eating there in near 5 years. Its been that long because of excessive gas/farts which I could clear a very large room with for the next 3 to 4 hours. Now I get the idea today to go try this golden out again. Someone slap me and tell me no we're going to the Chinese place down the road if I ever in my life get that idea again. The gas is still there but maybe little less. Not sure if it was the time I got there being around 2:30 on a Tuesday but the choice of food wasn't there or that great tasting. This restaurant is a health hazard, There is no training of the employees about health and food safety. This restaurant is notorious for cross contamination, uncooked raw food, cockroaches, unclean equipment, bad restrooms and stagnated water. I worked here briefly and saw a 68 as a health inspection, it was scored a week later and received a 92 but the inspector never entered the kitchen. I have seen uncooked fish sitting on top of cooked steaks, I was told to change the "use by" dates on the food in the cooler to trick any inspectors. The carpet is molded on the bottom, the staff isn't monitored by any food knowledgeable people so the quality is inconstant and the food is unsafe to eat a lot of the times. Nobody can work with the owner. He would rather hide from his business in the office then turn it around. This is the most neglected business you can find. read more

I would never recommend this, "PARTICULAR" establishment to anyone!! What's really sad is I have been to multiple golden corrals, throughout the years and have never had an experience worthy of critique, everything was as it should be, friendly staff, clean atmosphere, HOSPITABLE, welcoming, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere.... well this one had none of that..... First of all, I understand this restaurant is no "Ruth Chris!!" but for a buffet, it is pretty good and has been around for a while. Even though, I may only frequent one,every couple of years, I have never had a complaint or a problem, until this particular one. I came from out of state to visit family, my aunt enjoys this restaurant, so I agreed to go. Upon arrival I was very confused. I could not clearly see the menu or prices for adults and children. I asked one of the attendants (who seemed bothered by me asking) how much were children since there was 7 adults and 4 children. I was treating majority of the guests and needed to step aside to see how much I needed to pay for us all. When I went back to the register, the man began to check us out and received a phone call and walked away from us for 10 minutes. Finally the other attendant comes forward and starts to check us out, for some reason this took an incredibly LONG time.... NO ONE offered directions to where our large party could sit or where we could find plates and silver ware.... after picking a table we searched for everything and finally began seeing their selections. To be honest I was not dissatisfied with the entree portion of the buffet. Most of what I tried was good. The real issue came at the desert. I went to get my nephews some soft serve ice cream and it looked like a hurricane went through the desert area! There was ice cream liquid all over the machines dripping all over the place. Used bowls were stacked with melted ice cream all over them. The machines were not labeled, I had no idea what was what.... then when you tried to get ice cream this thick chocolate hunk came dripping out. The spatulas used to serve cakes and pies were soiled with all days desert scrapping stuck to it. Was impossible to get retrieve a slice of anything.... the chocolate fountain was very low and slow flowing.... it was a catastrophe! I went to the front to speak to an attendant to remedy the situation. I was greeted with attitude and unprofessionalism and requested a manager..... 15 minutes later a disheveled man comes out (who ends up being the managing partner of the restaurant) pulls a chair up next to me backwards and proceeds to spread his crotch around the chair and speak with me. His tone was disgusting and he belittled both me and my family. He stated to me that he heard I asked about the prices when I came in and our rule about refunds here is after 30 minutes you don't receive a refund! He continued to defend his employees, refused to give me anyone's name so I could speak to corporate. He told me it was corporate policy to not reveal his staffs name, then why were they wearing name tags.... what a joke... I never asked for a refund and I just wanted the situation rectified if they couldn't fix the desert station offer us a rain check to come back..... he made it seem like we were trying to scam the restaurant and he wasn't going to dignify my family with respect! When I went to look at the employees name tags he instructed them to turn around.... All in all I ended by taking a card he handed me with his name on it and I told him I would be contacting corporate... not even 5 minutes after leaving I was writing an email to the corporation. A nice woman Spoke with me and I truly believe she was sincere and assured me this incident would be escalated through the proper Chanel's. She was very upset about the experience I encountered and I did appreciate her urgency in contact and her resolution. She is the reason I will still go to other locations. I worked in the restaurant business in college and in construction remodeling and I've never seen a business so poorly ran. On top of dirty buffet bar and food that needed to be thrown out and replaced with fresh, the rest room was so bad I would not even use it. I'm not talking about hasn't been clean but, the build up of crude on walls and stalls that was build up over time. SO NASTY. This is a restaurant not a truck stop. While getting up from my seat, I had to step aside for one of the managers as he headed to the office. This person did not acknowledge me with either an "excuse me", or a smile and say "good afternoon." I guess it is part of the training to be employed by Golden Corral not to reinforced common courtesies towards the customer. This was not the first encounter with lack of courtesy at this location. The cashier also could use training in courteous behavior towards the customer. For example, after paying for my meal, the cashier shoved my change at me in a piled heap.
