Love this old country store and restaurant. The food is almost always great and even driving across the country they are consistent. This location in Tennessee near Virginia border on Hwy 81 was no exception. The wait was exact time of 20 minutes as we were told. The waitress had a warm greeting and pleasant disposition with an ever filling coffee pot this morning. The food was delicious and the atmosphere homelike comfortable. No rushing for next customer and offered drinks to go. The restaurant was clean and old world country decor adorned all the walls. Pleasant little shop to peruse while waiting for a table. The bathroom was also vey clean with all the business they have. Price is Usually about $10ish per person and amount of food is filling.

Good food and good service. Excellent mimosas! We was pleasantly surprised. Great place for Sunday!

It don't even deserve a one star . I ordered the white fish and shrimp that was 13.99 both was hard and rubbery. I got baked potato and okra . The potato was so cold the butter would not melt at all and it was also hard . All I got was sour cream and butter and they charged me 1.99 extra. So 15.98 for that meal that wasn't worth eating.

    Sad!

Not enough wait staff-the waiters/waitresses had to clear tables. Wait for simple breakfast items (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes) was almost 30 minutes. Food was cold. Bacon was tough and tasteless. "Scrambled" eggs were cooked into a flat mass and folded onto the plate. Very little "butter". The "maple" syrup was half corn syrup. Pancakes were decent but a little cold and tough. "Butter " would not even melt on them. We ate everything because we were hungry and needed to get on the road. We don't blame the waitress. She was working her butt off. Left her a $10 tip for a $30 way over-priced breakfast. I complained to the manager after we ate and paid. She was very nice and offered a complete refund but we declined. I just wanted her to know how bad it was and how the quality has declined over the years. I'm 67 and when I was a lot younger the food was excellent quality. Always enjoyed it. No more. I guess everyone is cutting quality in order to increase profits (or merely survive).

Dry chicken. Cold corn. Not much cheese or glaze!!!

Hadn't been there five years before Covid so it had been over 11 years. They have doubled or tripled in size. We lucked out and got there at 1:30. I believe they open at 11:30 on Saturday and we hit at a perfect time we got seated. We had our drink order within a minute of being seated, the lady explained everything we waited 20 minutes and was served our meat and all our sides for those of you not familiar with the restaurant. You are served family style in case you don't know exactly what family style means is that they bring a bunch of different sides to you get to pick the meats two of them per table and they come on platters. we happen to get pork chops and fried chicken. The pork chops had a dark gravy that was almost barbecued and was a little spicy so our table didn't quite care for those so they went with the country fried steak in a second helping of fried chicken. It got busier and the fried chicken was a bit dry the second time better to do chicken salad than to eat hot although I do like piping hot fried chicken! Side dishes vary 7 to 9 different sides. They automatically bring to the table that carrot soufflé is one of our favorites. I've yet to replicate. They have Yukon gold mashed potatoes, gravy beans, and whatever beans of the day, cream corn, green beans, corn salad, fresh rolls, and fresh skillet cornbread with delicious rail butter served on a slab and room temperature so it's easy to spread. There are several meats to choose from catfish and pork chops and fried chicken buttermilk chicken, which wasn't served on Saturday but is awesome. There were pork chops, country ham there was boiled cabbage, and the time before there were pickles and apple butter and cottage cheese years ago, so their sides vary but the carrot soufflé is still wonderful. You would swear were sweet potatoes!

The main building is a lovely and spacious modern inn that balances comfort and traditional elements with open and wide modern floor plans and bright spaces in a pleasing way while retaining the cozy fireplace experiences of more traditional settings. A first floor outdoor veranda opposite the main entrance stretches the length of the main building overlooking the well groomed hillside vineyards and a stocked, picturesque fishing pond. The hillside stretches up the horizon and with the westward facing veranda, offers stunning sunset views along with wine service. Below is a patio off the main restaurant and bar offering even more seating around fire pits with couches and Adirondack chairs with appetizer and drinks available for the bar/restaurant. We toured a king 2 room suite with a large sitting area separated from an equally large and well appointed sleeping area with a private large balcony that also faced the western sunset over the vineyards. The rooms were described as more akin to an apartment whereas the 9 onsite yurts accommodations were described more akin to a condo, described as pet friendly and a quiet community. Behind the yurts is a large barn structure that serves as a tasting room with an outdoor seating area with Edison lights strung around the overhang creating a warm space to enjoy the vineyards end production, currently nine wine vintages. Beside the main building are two much larger shaped yurt structures housing a full fitness center and a spa as will as an outdoor pool. We dined at Hickory for dinner and enjoyed their farm to table, Appalachia oriented menus. That will be a separate review but it hits 10/10 for hospitality, service, presentation and food excellence. We plan a fall trip for an overnight stay when the vineyards come in just before harvest to get the full experience! Also, we initially had a glass of their Chardonnay and being pleased with this, we opted to enjoy a bottle with dinner even though the wine list had equally excellent choices from familiar vineyards. This is highly recommended!

Never have I really ventured outside of that and I couldn't actually tell you why. When my kids and I made a quick 1 day Dollywood trip over to Pigeon Forge, 23 we're looking for a place to eat prior to the big day at the park. What's funny is I relied in Googles AI (Gemini) to tell me where to go. I was driving around and was asking for recommendations. It said Mama's Farmhouse was a popular place to eat for families and it was all-you-can-eat. The kids wanted fried chicken and Salisbury steak, which was in the menu for that day. What a coincidence! If I could summarize it, this is basically a local Cracker Barrel-style restaurant but the food is a lot better. It's tucked away off of a side road off of the main highway 321 road and reminds me a lot of the Applebarn Restaurant down the road. The ambiance is this old timey feel, like many of the establishments around the area. The fried chicken (bone-in), chicken tenders, fries catfish, and Salisbury steak was what we ordered for our mains. Everything was delicious! The seasoning had the perfect amount of salt across all the dishes and sides. The chicken was juicy and tender. The Salisbury steak was solid, some of the best I've ever had. Savory, rich brown gravy, and tender chunks of beef. All the sides were amazing too, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and chicken and dumplings. Honestly there wasn't a negative thing about this place. I would go back in a heartbeat!!

The online menu gave plenty of eye candy and we were absolutely starving by the time we arrived Friday evening. The staff was very attentive and kind. It's clear that this place is fully operated by word-of-mouth and return guests. It's a huge establishment with several rooms by big fireplaces and Lazy Susan's to pass around the family style meal. The menu was a little difficult to navigate so many options laid out, but only certain options available per day. So ultimately, we were not able to order exactly what we wanted, but we ordered what was available for Friday, which was the Salisbury steak, fried fish, and fried chicken. All of these meats came in a small portion to split amongst our three people, and with unlimited sides. Some of the sides were pretty impressive. I would have to say my favorite side was the broccoli casserole, followed by the mashed potatoes and gravy, which were real potatoes! The mac & cheese was more on the creamy side versus the gooey cheesy side. Unfortunately, some of our chicken was undercooked, and the skin was very thin and not too crispy. The fish was decent, not dried out whatsoever, which is a pretty good compliment. While my coworker said that the chicken and dumplings were her favorite, I failed to enjoy them :( All in all, this was not our favorite restaurant from our trip this weekend and it appears that big groups and big families really do enjoy dining at this establishment.

I have eaten at Cheddar's before but typically not watching what I was eating. They have a vast menu of quality downhome options. It was clean and well laid out. There was ample parking and it was easy to get to. The service was good, as the waitress was attentive and checked on me regularly. She brought out the honey buttered croissant and was able to make recommendations. As for the food, there was several healthy options. A couple types of chicken, sirloin steaks, and fish options (salmon and white fish). I chose the Lemon Pepper chicken breast with rice and carrots and green beans as the side. The chicken was very good and flavorful. There were 2 breasts included so it was nice and filling. The rice was just enough to supplement the chicken with a little bit of carbs. The carrots were tender but lacked flavor. The green beans were average. Overall, this location was clean and friendly and had some healthy options to allow health conscious patrons some options. (I ordered off the GF menu) when the food was brought out there was a cup of sauce on the plate. I asked what it was. She said it is bourbon glaze. I questioned her on if this was GF bc it was not listed as GF. I was told by her and another man that helped her carry out our food "I think so." I asked that they make sure because to my knowledge nothing with bourbon is GF. She walked back to the kitchen and came back and said, "I just asked the kitchen manager and he said, "It is gluten free." I really didn't trust it bc there was clearly a lack of training. I asked for the ingredient list for the glaze she goes back to the kitchen. While she was in the kitchen I pulled their GF stuff up and it wasn't there. Within the menu online it clearly stated "gluten sensitive served without bourbon glaze." So, when she came back and to tell me again it was GF and the kitchen manager told her it was safe. I told her that the glaze was not GF and was listed online as it was not GF. She was like yes it is I asked twice. I then asked for a manager bc I know it is a lack of training and it is a very serious issue. If I would have eaten it I would have had a bad allergic reaction. She teas like I just asked him. So I said "Please I'm asking you to ask the Manager to come out." It took forever for the manager to finally come out. When one of the people I was with said it is taking him forever to come out. I said, " he is probably back there brushing up on the ingredients before he comes out so he knows what he is talking about." When he finally came out that was confirmed. He told me that he was sorry bc they told me wrong and that it isn't GF. I told him that he needed to do better at training the staff bc it isn't a waitress issue at this point it is a management issue bc the training isn't in place and if I didn't know what I was talking about I would have ended up with an allergic reaction that could have sent me to the ER. Giving someone with an allergy to Gluten can KILL them. I share this story for my other allergy people to triple check and if you have a gut feeling you need to sit there and research before partaking in the food. I did tell the waitress that it wasn't her fault that they didn't train her for this. My brother who is a manger and has taken the safe serving class told her to never take her managers word for it to always make them come out to talk to the person so if this was to happen and the person was to eat it she wouldn't be at fault. You could see the effect the situation had on her that it almost happened. Just an FYI she knows we were not mad at her.
