FOOD WAS GREAT! We arrived at 3:48 and were given a very reasonable lunch price. By time we were seated, they started the steaks and large shrimp! The salad bar for a starter is great with all of the fresh fixings here! I had fried chicken wings, steak, shrimp, and delicious corn bread for main entree. Some chocolate cake and chocolate fountain dipped strawberries, rice crispy treats, and marsh mallows for dessert. THE SERVICE IS GREAT! The keep the drinks full, the buffet well stocked, and the place clean. I think the cooks are exceptionally good at this location. THE PROERTY IS CLEAN AND WELL KEPT! Golden Corral is a buffet. Personally not crazy about buffets. The impressive part of Golden Corral is the very vast variety of food options. The atmosphere is basically that of a buffet. No privacy & rather noisy. A few of the food selections are above the norm. The rest is typical precooked or frozen & reheated foods and desserts. Service is good for a buffet. That place is gross. The plates were all dirty. Had to go through at least a dozen plates before I found a decent looking one. The dressings for the salads all had gnats floating in them. Note to say we only went there because my daughter was visiting and she suggested it. Told the manager about the salad dressings he took it away, but when we left, I walked by it and they were put right back out with bugs and all. I get it. Two years ago, we had dinner here twice during our vacation. It was phenomenal then! So we tried them again this week and were disappointed. The food was good, but the rolls were hard and not up to their usual perfection. They were slightly stale. The salad bar was lacking in variety, as was everything else. The reason I gave three stars was that two hours after eating, I suffered an attack of diarrhea that lasted into the night. This may not have anything to do with Golden Corral, but this is usually the case when I've eaten at a not-too-clean salad bar. It was very loud and very busy from all the customers. The carpets were extremely dirty and so were the bathrooms. The floors and decor were cracked and outdated for what is obviously a gold mine. Okay. This place is a trough. I came here reluctantly because a friend of mine loves buffets. The food was OK. Plenty of options. You could cut the prime rib with a fork. The fried fish and fried seafood were fresh. The baked salmon was seasoned well. The salad bar had an attendant there at all times restocking the items. The steamed vegetables looked like they needed some serious seasoning but they appeared fresh. There was a WOK station with a variety of options that were not made to order but likely should have been. Orange chicken was tasty. Bourbon chicken was also. The desserts bar, on the other hand, was FANTASTIC! They have MAYFIELD hand scooped ice cream! They have cotton candy! They had cakes and pies and bars and fudge and toppings and fruit to run under the chocolate fountain. I'm not even a dessert person but tonight I was! Staff on the floor (our server was Ron) were friendly and attentive and spent a lot of time cleaning up after people. TIP YOUR SERVER!!! Staff behind the meat station were VERY busy chatting with each other. Staff behind the dessert station were accommodating. Staff behind the register needs a good tutoring on customer service and friendliness. Bathrooms needed a set of eyes on them. So that's 2 employees that were OK with serving customers dirty dishes. 2 employees just standing around doing nothing. Neither told someone to go get dishes and wash them correctly. Asked for medium steak and got what I asked for. Their steak was soo tender, I loved it. Salad was fresh. Didn't wait long for ice cream. Our waiter kept our drinks full. Can't complain about anything. Was there at 7 on a friday night and they had a TON of steak ready. Way better than my hometown one, this one was prepared for a rush on the steaks. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD GOLDEN CORRAL IS MY HAPPY PLACE. I haven't gone a single week where I haven't gone to Golden Corral at least once. This is my place of worship. This is where I feel safe. This is even where I feel most comfortable taking fat shats!!! Sometimes you need to just go to a Golden Corral and cry. Even the servers know me. Every gosh darn one of em. My favorite food there is the Big Mac snack. It's a secret menu item, given to me by the one and only server, Claudia Hoovenmier. She says it's a giant ball of their leftover ground beef and a "special" sauce, fried into a ball of amazing goodness, topped with some extra "special" sauce. Mmmm mmm mmm. Oh boy do I eat that up every time. The giant meatball makes me want to jump up and down and tackle and elderly woman walking peacefully across the street with a cane that happens to have tennis balls at the bottom for support. I might accidentally crush her glasses (and/ her spine), but that's ok. All that matters is the Big Mac snack. Other than the Big Mac snack, there are many other options throughout the bungalow, including, Mac n cheese, ( which sometimes includes "special sauce"), green beans and bacon, (which also sometimes includes "special sauce", and the creamy cheese soup (which also comes with special sauce.... if I ask for it.) Golden Corral has some amazing features that advance technology, including its advanced dishwashers in the back that Claudia showed me once. They can hold SOOO many dishes!!! I love the decor placed, carefully and lovingly around the building. There are gorgeous, colorful pieces of art that make the walls pop!!!! Extraordinary vases and napkin holders are placed beautifully around the place, making the dinner experience even more delightful!! The desert here is absolutely AMAZING. I would sacrifice a small monkey just to eat one piece of carrot cake with "special" sauce on it. There are many other options too, including big chocolate chunk cookies, soft serve ice cream, and sometimes even crepes. Another amazing desert there is the chocolate lava cake! MMMMMM!!!! It is sooo good. I would maybe even consider living in the desert for 4 days and 7 hours with no food, water, clothes, or ability to urinate, for one little measly slice of it. Maybe going a bit to far, but it's pretty good. When I finish my meal and get the check, I start to become sad. I realize that once I sign the receipt, it's all over. My wonderful, glorious adventure is all over. I say my goodbyes to Claudia, and I leave the buffet. I cry in the car on the way home, but at least I know I'll be back next week. I sit in bed crying, and wondering what I'll get next time. Took my family here after Christmas shopping what a disappointment found hair in two plates table next to us also found hair in a different dish. Manager only refunded 40 dollars out of a 100. After reading the other reviews on here, I felt that I should say a few words about "MY" experience with this Golden Corral. I ate here twice with my family during the summer of 2009. We were on a trip down to Atlanta, GA from Michigan. There were quite a few "Golden Corral's" along I-75 and we ate at a couple different locations during the trip. The Pigeon Forge location was BY FAR the best of the bunch (in terms of cleanliness and food choices). We ate here for dinner one evening, and then also breakfast the next morning... and both experiences were positive ones. There is also a Golden Corral in Port Huron, MI (near where I live) that I've been to many times, and the Pigeon Forge location was much better than that one as well. As far as the OTHER reviews that were written... I think it's fairly easy to "read between the lines" and see that one person just had a personal "beef" with the drinks being an additional charge (WOW... who would've ever thought that)?? And the other reviewer just sounded like a person who doesn't like buffet's AT ALL. Believe me on this one... if you like buffets... this place does just fine. And "I", personally, found THIS location to be a bit better than the other Golden Corral's that I've visited. And I've been to 4 or 5 different GC's... read more
