The breakfast strudel was outstanding. As always the flavor was perfect and this time the temperature also came out nice and hot, just how I would want it. The gravy has a little kick which we loved. Normally we don't eat that much German food, but we LOVE this place. The apple strudel with pecans on top is outstanding, my favorite dessert there. My second favorite is the Oreo cheesecake. I went back again for a second time mostly because the owner personally replied to my last review and wanted me to try the experience again. I respected him for doing that so I made sure to come back next chance I had. The owner Michael went out of his way to make sure everything was okay and make sure my experience turned out great. I really appreciate the fact that even though they are busy, this business still cares about the experience of their customers and their reputation. The owner greeted me, apologized about the last experience and shook my hand and made sure the experience was flawless. I ordered a German chocolate cake for my husband's birthday. Yesterday, I made the very long trek to Rio Rancho to this tiny bakery/cafe in a small industrial gravel parking lot! Walking in you can tell this is definitely a very German themed place. The refrigerator case had a few cakes, and another case had strudel. There must have been 10-12 varieties of strudel slices to choose from. A very nice gentleman greeted me, he placed my cake in a box and then I decided to have a piece of coconut cheese strudel while I was there. There was lots of filling but very little coconut (on top only). Still yummy. Later the cake was a big hit at home. Very dense, chocolatey with walnuts. Hubby loved it! read more

This hidden gem had been recommended to me by a number of different people and I am so glad I was able to finally check it out. It is definitely out of the way, but worth it to be able to try something new. Albuquerque is obviously not known for its selection of German food but this is it if you're looking for it. I would describe this as a bakery / specialty grocery store / eatery. They have a variety of baked goods, including strudel and whole cakes. They also have a lunch menu with German delicacies and some grocery items that you can pick up to go. I came out of time where I wasn't super hungry and was only there for a sweet treat, but I would definitely like to eventually go back and try some of the savory foods. The best Rueben I've EVER had. Service is fast and friendly. It's a cozy, clean and comfortable place that I wish was not in Rio Rancho but more centrally located! However, I still make the drive from the base of the Sandia mountains frequently. read more

Honestly I would give Dagmars a 5 star rating if I were rating the food, its great! The service I received yesterday was not good. I went in to buy several slices of strudel among other things. I wanted two slices in a box by themselves. they were to be a hostess gift for some friends, the rest of the srudel slices I wanted to buy were going back to my house, but I was told that was not possible. They only put the strudel in quantities of three or four in boxes, never just two slices. I explained again why I wanted only two slices in the box and I offered to pay extra for the box with only two strudel and was told no, not possible. I offered to buy as many strudel as necessary to get a box and to please just put two in the box and bag the rest, also no, not possible...The girl behind the counter flat refused every work around I offered. I left in frustration without the strudel slices, the brotchen and everything else I intended to buy that day. I am really sorry this happened the food is great and we love the schnitzel, and have placed a few big orders over the past year, only to leave empty handed because we couldnt have a simple, easily managed accommodation that we were happy to pay extra for....somebody please make it make sense! read more

This German was disappointed. I was excited to try Dagmar's to try New Mexico's only restaurant solely dedicated to German foods. Red Rock Deli in Albuquerque has a few German foods but focuses on more Eastern European cuisine, so Dagmar's is the place to go for German. Dagmar's is a small combination deli, grocery, and restaurant with frozen meats, imported goods, baked goods and desserts, and a small restaurant menu. The dining area is in the back, and there's an open patio where dinners can eat as well. We got four pieces of apple strudel, four sides (two potato salads; one rot kohl, which they call "red cabbage"; and one sauerkraut), and four sandwich rolls for $59. Unfortunately the food was overpriced and bland. The apple strudel reminded me of McDonald's' single-serve apple pies, the potato salad was dry, the other two sides were bland, and the rolls weren't baked all the way and were too claggy to eat. We had to toss those, which was disappointing. Overall, Dagmar's is a good idea, and I'm glad there's a German place here, but it doesn't work in execution for this German. read more

My girlfriend lives close by and we stopped by over the weekend for some lunch and strudels. They just opened up a dining area that wasn't there before during my last visit to NM. We ordered 2 orders of jagerschnitzel because my girlfriend won't share hers, so we got one each to go with some sides. It was just as good as the last time my girlfriend let me have a taste the last time we ordered from here. If you like chicken fried steak, you won't be disappointed. We also got a 6 pack of strudels.. coconut is my favorite, but we also tried the red chili flavor as well.. that definitely had some chili flavor. Me and my husband love coming to Dagmar's to pick up sweets. We have been in there about 4 times and each time was a Fantastic Experience. The 1st time we went in I wanted German chocolate cupcakes but my husband wanted Black Forest cupcakes. I asked the gal at the counter if we could have 1/2 and 1/2 and she said "well no one has ever asked but sure - maybe someone else might want them half and half too she said." So we got 3 German chocolate cupcakes and 3 Black Forest cupcakes and we went on our way. Well let me tell you that they were Absolutely Delicious and Scrumptious. So we had to order 2 dozen more for thanksgiving and those were amazing too. We also came in a few other times for their strudel and other baked goods which have also been so delectable. On Valentine's I was craving some German Chocolate Cupcakes but I didn't pre-order any and I just walked in there and asked if they had any. Well they had some in the back that were not frosted or decorated and I was perfectly ok with that since that day was Hectic in its own and then I didn't even pre-order to begin with but once again the young lady in the back OFFERED to decorate them for me quickly if I wanted. I didn't want to impose and put her thru more work on Valentine's Day than they already had but she insisted it was no trouble at all so she decorated (2) 6 packs for me on Valentine's Day and they were the cutest cupcakes ever along with being so moist and incredible. The owner is really nice too. You will catch him up in the front ringing ppl up and chatting. Really nice people, delicious desserts and pastries and overall a really good fair price. I've heard great things about this place, so we decided to stop in for breakfast and some pastries. We weren't entirely sure what to expect. My son loved his food and, of course, a strudel. My partner loved his food and ordered two things: breakfast and a Jagersnitzel. We all enjoyed the food we got, and we will be back. The outdoor patio is in an odd location, as it was right next to their door to dump trash. There isn't a better place for it because of their location, but maybe they'll grow or figure out a way to make it seem more separated (mini wooden or decorative fence?). read more

First time here and the strudels were amazing! I got one of every flavor! Also went back in to try their "bagged lunch" and the meat,lettuce and tomato and bread was so fresh! We didn't need a big cake just for us two. Dagmar stated she had the perfect size for us & it was heart shaped. Since it was for the love of my life I responded that will be ideal. The inside of store, happy people baking/creating magic in the back, an really great selection makes this a go to place fore your bakery needs. Was over in Rio Rancho today and saw the Dagmar's Bakery sign. Heard about it, but I don't get on this side of town much. Stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed! Having been stationed in Germany for 5 years, we became very familiar with the great flavors and tastes of German cuisine. I had the schnitzel sandwich on a fresh in-house baked brotchen with a side of German potato salad. Absolutely spot on - true authentic food. Left with a bag full of brotchen and some pastries. I have heard of this business for years and have just never had a chance to try it. We recently moved into a neighborhood close by so on Saturday morning I trekked over and now I'm kicking myself for not being here sooner. What a cool, little, locally owned gem!! It has a family feel. I was greeted right away, given then run down of their offerings and given time to puruse and take it all in. They carry everything from a fabulous and drool worthy pastry case, house made breads, sausages and sides and imported merchandise. And on top of all of that, they serve hot lunches and breakfast on Saturday. I went home with a gorgeous and delicious loaf of Sourdough. And strudel. Omg strudel. I chose 6 flavors and every single one was fantastic. The family shared like a sampler and now we all have favorite flavors. We've been meaning to try Dagmar's for quite awhile. I really like German food - part of my heritage... We can't seem to get there or if we are in the area it's already closed. But today we specifically planned it. A small place in the Trinity Plaza - easily missed. We got inside - kitchen left food right. Right passed the case loaded with cakes, breads, meats, cookies and treats. We stopped at the cash register directly behind the case loaded with strudel. Meals are saved for another day - we were there for dessert. Slice of German Chocolate Cake and another of just Chocolate Cake and a piece of Cinnamon Apple Strudel. No place to sit. What few tables they have were already taken. Oh well, the single outdoor table would work. Both pieces of cake were delicious. In true German fashion the cake was dense and the frosting not overly sweet. Too full for the strudel. They have a few German dishes available, including my favorite Jägerschnitzel. Since Dagmars closes @ 3p a lunch trip is planned to fill my German food craving. read more
