Terrible experience. We politely asked to replace the rice because it was impossible to eat, and the owner started yelling at us so loudly that the entire restaurant could hear. She tried to embarrass us in front of everyone, threatened us with "problems," and even called the police -- all because we asked for new rice. We spent $375 on dinner, yet the food was overpriced and tasted terrible. The restaurant was also very dirty -- the table, dishes, and overall cleanliness were unacceptable. To make things worse, we were offered alcohol without anyone checking IDs, even though one person in our group was under 21. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

So, my expectations were not high based on the reviews. I also talked to a lot of locals, and they said not to expect too much. Therefore, I was delightfully surprised. I had the daily special Singapore noodles. I love curry, and I love ginger. Those are the two flavors highlighted. Really wanted to like this place cause the woman at the counter was so kind and the food was fast. I got take out and the potstickers were great, no notes. The veggie chow mein seemed like they forgot to add the flavor... it came with one soy sauce packet so that helped but once I got past the upper layer it was inedible. Food was partially cold on arrival. Ordered two lunch specials of orange chicken and chow mein. The soup tasted strange and I didn't eat it. My friend ate the soup but her stomach was hurting after. The orange chicken was partially cold and had no flavor. Pretty sure the menu is all freezer food. The service was okay, just one lady working. Ambiance left something to be desired as the lighting was nice but many stains on the carpet and the table was clean but the rest of the booth had food stains. The world needs more men like the guy who runs this restaurant. A while back I stayed in Forks after a backpacking trip into Olympic NP, and ordered takeout from here because we all needed a hot dinner. Food was great, but several hours later I realized I'd left my wallet at the restaurant, which I needed because I was due to fly out of Seattle the next day. It was nearly 10pm and the restaurant had long since closed. I rushed back there anyway, hoping I'd find that I just dropped it in the parking lot or something. As I pulled up, an elderly man stepped out of the restaurant with a smile on his facing, declaring that he hoped I'd be back, handing me my wallet. Turned out he noticed I'd left it on the counter almost immediately but had no way to contact me, so he just stuck around hoping I'd come back for it. I tried to give him some money for his trouble, but he refused-- saying that he had paperwork to do and it was either gonna get done here, or on his couch at home, so it was no problem to stick around just in case I returned. We headed from Olympic National Park and decided to stop here for some food. Came in and they were not open for dine in. So we ordered to go. I asked if there was chili in my bag and she said yes. This restaurant is dirty and disgusting. The soy sauce had fruit flies in it, which wound up conveniently sprinkled across my rice. The rice had some weird moldy looking substance in it. The floors are disgusting, the walls have food splatters all over, the restroom is gross. And, as others said, the service is horrible. There's not much in Forks so I had low expectations, especially for middle of nowhere Chinese food, but Golden Gate is actually pretty good - definitely better than what might meet the eye. Not the best chinese food ever, but I would eat it again. Prices are more expensive than what I would assume you would pay for this kind of chinese food, but again, supply and demand. The food can be good if you order right - I liked their eggplant with garlic sauce a good amount. Chunky eggplant that has been cooked down a bit with a savory sauce thats not too thick. Their twice cooked pork is spicier than other versions I've had and not quite what I'm used to but tasty nonetheless. String beans with beef is blistered in oil beans without much grease with sauce that just clings to the beef. Mapo tofu is not quite mapo tofu - its just tofu with some kind of brown sauce, so I don't recommend that. Forks has a weird twilight obsession so don't get put off by that when you walk into the restaurant since the story is based in Forks fyi. read more

This is not the best Chinese food out there by any means, but for a 2 horse nothing little town you won't find better. Don't be turned off by their low overall stars. I was surprised to see a restaurant serve shave noodles in Forks. So, when we drove through the town we stepped in to give it a try. To our disappointment the waitress told us they no longer serve them. Also, steamed dumplings were actually boiled. I would suggest the owner to update the menu to correct the discrepancy. read more
