My husband and I went to Golden Harvest for a Lunar New Year luncheon. We were unsure of what to expect, as we were told there would be 10 courses. This usually includes appetizers and dessert. Instead, the luncheon consisted of 10 entrees served family style. We were cool with this, and saw it as a great opportunity to sample the vast menu. For beverages, we had green tea. While my husband and I couldn't sample every dish due to allergies, I would say we tried at least 6 of the dishes. Of those 6, I think there was only one we didn't particularly care for (the eggplant). All other dishes we tried were quite tasty, and the service was great. The teapots were quickly refilled, the food was delivered promptly, and the staff was very cordial and professional. For ambiance, the decor was a little outdated, but not shabby. Regardless, I am happy when places focus the attention on the quality of their food rather than on any fluff. There didn't seem to be a time limit for our party, and none of us felt rushed by the staff. We all felt relaxed enough to enjoy our meal and conversation. One thing I felt bad about is there were a lot of uneaten dishes. Even when shared among tables of 10, ten entrees is a lot to eat! And that was without rice! We were told by our table mates that the restaurant didn't offer takeaway for unfinished meals. That is a shame because that meant a lot of food was going to be wasted. An area of improvement I would suggest is to offer takeaways for uneaten portions, so as to reduce waste. I was going to suggest serving rice as well, but in all honesty we didn't miss it. My husband and I plan to return to Golden Harvest so that we can sample appetizers and explore the menu a little more, but until then I will give my luncheon experience 4 stars. read more

We just ate today at Golden Harvest. Before I can ask for chopsticks and fork. Now I have to choose if I will use chopsticks or fork. Then when we're done eating we asked for containers for our leftover food and we were told that all the leftover will fit on 2 styrofoam container. My wife had to tell the server that the sticky rice needs a separate container cause I am bringing it somewhere( to work). Then when I am paying the bill the lady owner told me tip is 18% I said can I not give whatever tip I want? She said she gets 18% tip to all customer. When you're not happy with the service do you still get charged 18%? You don't want to give me chopsticks and extra container for the sticky rice and you're demanding me to give 18% tip? Custumer has the right to give whatever tip he wants to give depending on his satisfaction. read more

Chinese restaurant that serves authentic menu. Dining area is huge and it is like a 酒樓 (Cantonese wine house). It is so outdated and dark. Across the street from GM tech center but there are barely any customers during lunch time. Came here for dim sum and the dishes are lukewarm. Ain't it supposed to be straight from a steamer, why everything is lukewarm. Quality is meh, recipe is wrong on some dishes. Looking to try all the (few) dim sum in the area, pretty cool old schooly feel. Ambience was fine for a Friday night. Particularly liked the deep fried shrimp balls, bean sprout stir-fry chow mein, Chinese broccoli with garlic and pan fried chive buns. I didn't care for the pork dumplings felt like it was a bit too meaty & dry, and unfortunately they were out of rice noodles and rolls. Hopefully next time & looking forward to going during proper dim sum time. read more

This place is definitely worth checking out! We came for dim sum at around 11am and were SO impressed. Everything seemed flavorful, not greasy, and really fresh. The shiu mai was packed with shrimp and the chicken feet were fall off the bone! The items in general were all average in comparison to other SE michigan dim sum places. The rice noodle roll was small. The chive dumpling was too doughy. Chicken feet was average. Food was alright. Spring rolls, rice, and custard buns were excellent, but the pork buns were cold. The Coke had a HORRIBLE aftertaste. I can't even describe it, I couldn't take a second sip. Service was great and very friendly. We were one of 2 tables on a Sunday night. The food came quickly and the dim sum was last. The chow fun with beef and the veggies we ordered were fresh. Everything else we ordered left much to be desired. We also ordered Shu Mai, custard buns, chicken fried rice and almond chicken. The chicken tasted frozen and dry, the peas in the fried rice were dehydrated and powdery tasting. The sauce for the almond chicken was a mushroom gravy which we did not realize was a Detroit metro thing. The restaurant itself was beautiful. We loved the vintage 80's vibe. A bit surprised at some of the recent reviews because we had a really great meal here! Came on a Saturday for lunch and it was surprisingly not too busy. Had the traditional cart dining experience and each dish we ordered was hot and fresh. Loved the variety and was even able to try a new dish (octopus curry)! Service was surprisingly the bright spot here. The ladies were very friendly and helped us to really enjoy our meal. They weren't overly pushy and refilled waters with a smile. There's also plenty of parking and seating so it's perfect for larger groups! I do want to call out that tea is $1 each, so make sure everyone actually wants tea or you will be charged per cup. Second time here. It is in a weird building but there is plenty of parking. Unpleasant odor by the entrance, but after I entered the dining area it subsided. The food was hit or miss, but no dish was awful. The chow fun and spare ribs were decent. The shumai had a chewy filling (not minced enough) and the stuffed banana leaves filling was not the freshest. The stuffed eggplant was good. We went to Golden Harvest on a weeknight and were very disappointed. The restaurant dining room is huge, but we were one of two tables in total. The dim-sum menu is why we came, as I had heard it was good. They were out of almost all of the dim-sum. There weren't even enough options for us to choose from for a meal, we ended up having to order from their regular menu and only ordered one dim-sum item; the chive pancakes. The regular menu was pretty large and the prices were decent. I ordered Mongolian beef, which came with rice (I asked for white) and an egg roll. My date ordered the shrimp with Lobster sauce which came with rice (he went with fried) and an egg roll. The food was OK. I felt like my dish was light on the beef and mostly onions and peppers - more like pepper steak. My date felt like his was good but not what he was expecting. The egg rolls were really good, and the chive pancake was only OK. The waitress was nice. She kept our drinks full and checked on us often without being overly attentive. What bothered me was that there were small flies in the restaurant that were annoying while we ate. I think that was what turned me off most. Best Dim Sum in the Detroit metro area. Given that most of my Dim Sum experiences have been in the China/Asia town portions of NYC, Seattle and San Francisco, I have very high standards! Chicken feet are my favourite and the har gow, sticky rice, eggplant with shrimp, pork buns, pineapple buns and rice noodles are go-to items for us. Prices are reasonable and the quality/variety of items are the best that we can find after many excursions to locations "claiming" to have good dim sum. This review is for the dim sum only. I've been here several times always on a Saturday or Sunday between 11am-1pm for dim sum. The dining area is huge, so I've always been seated right away, even on days where it's pretty crowded. The atmosphere is nothing special, open and loud. There are a few TVs as well. What you're really here for though is the food. They use the carts, which I love, and you have a paper on your table that they mark each time you select items. There have a wide selection and everything is delicious. My favorites are the rice rolls with shrimp, shrimp dumplings, and the pork buns. Order whatever you're craving today, and anything interesting the person on the cart is showing you, 99.9% of the time, you'll love it.
