Ordering take-out, around 12, on a Tuesday. Not busy. Small parking in back. One way in and out, small drive way. Honestly, it does look a little run down from the outside, but I still suggest this place if you're craving chinese food and in Waianae. A little better than "okay", but for a 4 star I think I would have to say that I would go here regularly. Scallop Soup - Tasted like any other scallop soup I've tasted before. No complaints, but also not memorable. Fried Rice - Good flavor, and a LOT of char siu in it. Cold Ginger Chicken - Also good flavor, but a lot of green onion. We got all chicken breast which is considered a plus. New favorite place to order cold ginger chicken. Ma-Po's Tofu - Tasty. I like that they gave a lot, but they could've done better with packing it; it was very messy and spilling out of the container. Shrimp Canton - Shrimp was overcooked and tough. Probably left in the fryer as long as the Gau Gee was. Crispy Gau Gee - This was close to being over done, but it was actually good for me. I like that it was cooked all the way through. I've had multiple places where it was still pink in the middle.

Golden House. I really like this Chinese restaurant in Waianae. From the main road it's hidden aside of a Tax business store front. It's clean inside and everyone so nice. Unfortunately their sign isn't easily spotted at first. Also don't be deterred by the appearance of the outside (it's in Waianae). The parking area is really worn and the store front aged looking, but step inside and it's clean and roomy. I ordered beef bittermelon (dry, no gravy) with black beans and rice. Oh Man was it delicious! It was cooked differently from what I'm used to getting but oh my so good. My only wish is that if the veggie and meat was sliced a little thicker. Also order their crispy gau gee (HUGE), the best I've ever had. EVER! My waitress (or maybe she was the owner?) recommended to order it no gravy style. So glad she gave this advice. You have got to try it. Generous portion and hot rice, I couldn't stop grunting with pleasure. So good.

We ordered for take out we ordered orange chicken on rice beef tomato on rice serving size were big crispy gau gee. My orange chicken was yummy goodness but was a little bit hard my other half loved his beef tomato and my daughter loved her gau gee served was awesome food came out quick all in all everything was amazing

This is rice to feed 5 people, where it is up to the spoon is the amount we actually received. Shame!!!

Been coming here for many years. Food is always good, but their service really is mediocre at best. The older lady is always good at serving, who we didn't get, but the younger one has no people skills, where I had to go to the counter to order food. Then she just placed the food on the table for us to pass around the table. literally brought one to two plates at a time. Only gave enough rice to feed maybe 3 people. We had a table of 6. Had to serve our own drinks. This rate they will be like twin dragon and close down. pretty disappointed, not sure if we will do sit down again, if we even come back.

Worst roast pork I have ever had in my entire life!!

Updated. (1.33 stars). After listening to my friend rave about GHR for months, I figured I would give GHR another try. The BF and I went a few weeks ago after getting home late from work (again) and having no energy to cook! Remembering that my friend kept pestering me to give GHR another try, we caved in... When we arrived at GHR, the place was virtually empty with the exception of 2 customers and 5 workers. It was approximately 1900 at night so we figured it was past dinner time and that was the reason for the lack of customers... As we got seated, I noticed a Daily Specials menu written on a whiteboard. Cool, I thought, maybe this will be better!!?? NOPE!!! We decided to order the following: S&P Pork Chops. (1 star). Do you love oily food? Can you not get enough of biting into a thick chunk of pure pork fat and having oil dribble down your chin?? Do you enjoy biting into shards of bone? If you have answered yes to any of these questions... this daily special may be the perfect item for you to try!! I literally spit my chunks of fat back out as oil dripped from my mouth and the piece of pork chop I was still holding with my chopsticks. The meat to bone to fat ratio was unacceptable. As I dissected my piece of pork chop and cut out just the meaty portion, I was appalled!! Barely any meat. The pork was previously frozen and hard to chew. The fat absorbed so much of the oil that when I bit into it, the fat squirted oil into my mouth. Absolutely disgusting!! Minute Chicken Cake Noodle. (1 star). Do you like soggy old Ong Choy that is not cut into bite size pieces being dumped on your cake noodles? Do you enjoy trying to dislodge the extremely long pieces of Ong Choy that get stuck in your throat? Do you like your chicken tough and flavorless? How's about cake noodles that are soggy from all the oil it absorbed? Can I make this dish sound any more appetizing?? I think NOT!! I don't understand how this dish could be so hard to mess up?! I just can't even go on anymore about how disappointing this dish was!! The "gravy" had a few lumps of cornstarch that hadn't dissolved and very little seasoning, making this a very difficult dish to eat. Crispy Gau Gee. (2 stars). Do you enjoy eating fried foods that have been fried more than twice?? Don't you just enjoy having something crumble at the touch of your fingertips thus leaving endless amounts of fried powder all over your hands and clothes?! I don't know about you, but I get really pissed off when I'm served old food that has since been reheated and/or refried... The wrapper seemed to be fried numerous times so some of the Gau Gee were crispy and others were dissolving upon contact with my fingers... Some of the Gau Gee were filled generously and some were virtually air puffs. The inconsistencies in textures and filling were definitely unacceptable to me. --- The BF ordered Orange Chicken but it looked like it was GLOWING ORANGE so I refrained from trying it. He said it was OK. The service was a bit shoddy. Our first server, who we were told numerous times was new, seemed to be oblivious to us after we put in our order. I finally had to flag down another lady who could get me a take out box but not my check. I then had to flag down yet another lady to get our check after waiting 7 minutes. Yes, I timed it!! I was so aggravated by this point. GHR has a private parking lot located adjacent to the restaurant. I don't think I can stomach anymore of GHR's food. I can't believe people rave about this place?! While the portion sizes are on the generous side, I really don't need a generous portion of oily chunks of pork fat. NO THANK YOU! Good luck GHR, after 4 chances, I just can't eat here anymore.

Steam Pork Hash, Kau Yuk, Roast Duck and Shrimp Canton. Total price $64.78
    George K.

Price is very expensive and portions are just ok. Food is good except for the Kau Yuk could cook longer for tenderness, shrimp canton tasted like they used the same oil a lot. Roast Duck is amazing but very small portion unlike other Chinese Restaurants, Their Steamed Pork Hash is also amazing and portion was perfect. I would have given 4 or maybe 5 stars if the portions were up to par like most Chinese Restaurants and if they used new oil for the shrimp canton. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon but maybe one day.
