We came to Sunset Beach today to watch the sunset and honestly had no plans for dinner. I literally just searched for restaurants nearby and stumbled across this place. I saw SO many amazing Yelp reviews that I had to find out if this little place really lived up to all the hype. And OMG... IT DID!!! We were two adults and two teenage boys, and ordered a medium Hawaiian pizza, the Golden Plate, an eggplant wrap, grilled sea bass, and an extra order of beef shawarma. The garlic dip, hummus, and especially the fresh hot bread were such a pleasant surprise! I normally eat very little carbs, but I ended up eating THREE pieces of bread That alone should tell you how good it was. The Golden Plate was also an amazing value. The actual portion was MUCH bigger than it looked on the menu, and every single kind of meat was incredibly juicy, tender, and flavorful. The meat practically melted in your mouth! The freshly grilled sea bass was absolutely worth the wait. By the time it arrived, we were already SO full, but somehow we still couldn't stop eating it. It was incredibly delicious with such a unique flavor. The boys loved everything, but of course their favorite was still the Hawaiian pizza They actually made me promise that I would give this place FIVE STARS! And I have to mention the service because our experience was wonderful. The young man with glasses and dark hair who took care of us was incredibly friendly, patient, and attentive. He explained the dishes to us, was so patient with the kids, and had the warmest smile and attitude the whole time. He genuinely made us feel so welcome. Even when he packed up our leftovers, he carefully chose different containers depending on the type of food. Such a small detail, but it really showed how thoughtful and attentive he was. I'm actually embarrassed that I didn't ask his name! I guess I was way too busy enjoying all the food And now that I'm writing this review, I have ANOTHER regret -- we forgot to try dessert!!! But I guess that's a good excuse to come back, because now we have even more things to try next time. If you love Mediterranean food, this place is an absolute MUST-TRY. I'm a VERY picky eater when it comes to flavor, and while this may not be a fancy restaurant with beautiful, luxurious decor, the food itself honestly tastes worthy of a Michelin star to me. After finishing a subpar surf session at Dog Beach, I wanted to eat something clean and healthy. I drove down PCH and came across this hidden gem. Golden Olive is a quaint mom and pop shop that serves delicious Mediterranean food at affordable prices. I ordered the Falafel Wrap and was surprised that it came with BBQ chips and a vibrant salad. They make an in-house pesto like salad dressing that tasted incredible on the salad and on the pita wrap. The Pita Wrap had hummus dressing and the falafel was nice and crispy. The staff, an Egyptian family, were extremely welcoming and checked in with their patrons to ensure they were satisfied with their dishes. It's food like this that makes me feel connected to where I live, but also transports me to new places. We came to Golden Olive because we were craving Greek food. This is not a Greek restaurant. It is a Mediterranean style restaurant with Egyptian influences. The restaurant is a mom and pop operation that sits in a strip mall. It is also next to Subway Sandwich Shop if that helps. We entered and we were greeted by a lovely hostess/cashier/server. She was excellent. My cousin ordered the shrimp and chicken platter and I ordered the falafel platter. The star of the show was the pita bread. It came out fresh and hot. I eat this bread forever!!! It was so good. My cousin loved her food. I didn't like my falafel because it had sesame seeds on them. My hummus was bland and the dolmas (grape leaves) were stuffed with a flavored rice I didn't care for. I still gave them a 5 because the food was fresh!! The moment the pita bread hit the table, I know everything is going to be good, the pita bread is fresh, puffy and crispy, so delicious with the garlic sauce. Under California Health and Safety Code Section 114075, food facilities must provide safe drinking water.
