While the service can be a little slow or lacking, the food is more than worth it. It's a combination restaurant and event hall so the staff sometimes gets busy in the back and you have to wait a bit in the front to get a seat for restaurant service. However, the food is simply off the hook with fresh and delicious ingredients which rival anything from Glendale or other Armenian/Middle Eastern neighborhoods. The pork chop, lamb chop, luleh, chicken, beef, and lamb chunks, are all delicious and juicy. The combination appetizer plate is the bargain of the place, with $15 for 7 different items, compared to just $7 for 1 appetizer. So for a little more than 2 separate appetizers, you get to try them all and the portions aren't small at all. I loved all of the appetizers and the pita bread that comes with it makes for a delicious bite, when filled with hummus, tzatziki, chickpeas, tabuleh, and eggplant. The bulgur rice, basmati rice, as well as the sumac seasoning makes for the final touch on the feast that you get here. Plenty of parking and there's also complimentary desserts at the end. I came here with my high school teacher to try some authentic Armenian food; to be frank, Armenian food is very similar to Mediterranean food (think of kebabs, hummus, etc.). At the waiter's recommendation, we ordered the filet mignon, meat kebab combos, and lamb chop. Everything did taste delicious, but I do find the taste slightly bland on the kebobs. They do have additional Armenian spices on the table, but I did not use them (perhaps next time). The meat is cooked very juicy, and the filet mignon is also very lean. We also ordered a slice of cheesecake for dessert along with Armenian coffee. Armenian coffee is just one of those shots of espresso, and cheesecake is normal American cheesecake. Overall, the food is delicious, but perhaps I was expecting something more unique. It is simply another Mediterranean cuisine restaurant to me. Karla the owner was incredibly hospitable and so accommodating to our large party of 16. We worked together and I provided her with our lunch orders the day before our party; and everything worked out perfectly! The food was served immediately and our hummus appetizers were displayed beautifully as we entered. The level of customer service here is excellent!! As for the food, I was apprehensive about ordering the chicken breast kabob entree because there is always a risk of it being dry, especially during a busy lunch service. The first time I came here (about 2 weeks ago), I ordered the greek chicken salad their chicken is really juicy, tasty, and they pack a lot of toppings on it including my favorite...kalamata olives! I would give them 5 stars but they seemed to be out of a lot of things (Basmati rice, lentil soup, stuffed grape leaves due to COVID, which I totally understand). My parents ordered the chicken plate and their favorite type of rice to eat with it is the Basmati rice and they were out of that too but they do have the roasted/grilled chili and tomato....soooOooO good they add a lot of flavor with the chicken! Great food! We've been looking for a good Armenian restaurant since Hye Cuisine closed. The food here is delicious, well seasoned, big portion sizes. Their pork ribs are probably the best thing on the menu. The lamb chops and steak are great second. Pick up and dining in both take a little time, so don't go/order when super hungry. I attended a wedding reception in the banquet hall area of the Golden Skewer and it was great. The space is nice for a small wedding reception. The appetizers and food were real good. Beef and chicken luleh were tasty. The service was friendly and attentive. The bathrooms were clean. There was plenty of parking and everyone seemed to have a great time. The banquet hall area had enough room for several round tables that seat about 10 people, a dance floor, a photo booth, dessert table and small bar area. There is plenty of free parking in the shared lot outside of Golden Skewer. This is a hidden gem! From begging to end - it was such a smooth ride! I was able to bring my own DJ, drinks, and decoration, which it didn't require much because it is already a beautiful hall!!! Coming from an Assyrian family, we ate a lot of middle eastern food growing up. Golden skewer is the closest thing I can get to the tasty Assyrian food I grew up with. It is also through this restaurant that I found my love for Nazook and Halva. I have been coming to this spot for over a decade, and I get the same thing every time. We always get hummus, sarma for all to share. I get a bowl of lentil soup, I have a string love for lentils, and this soup doesn't disappoint. My grandfather always gets the borscht, which he said reminds him of his childhood. Then he and I always split a chicken luleh plate with basmati. The food is delicious and I will continue to give my business here as long as they are around. Do keep in mind that the main restaurant is small, and they typically only have one waiter/waitress. Service can be delayed, but the food is worth it, I promise that. The owner is a great guy who was born and raised in Montebello and often interacts with the customers. This Middle Eastern skewer place is pretty good. We ordered chicken kabob, beef kabob, and a lamb kabob. We also ordered a side of humus to dip with our fajita bread. Not bad at all. At first I thought there will not be enough food for all three of us. But I was fooled. I was actually stuffed from eating there. The chicken was not dry, and it was nicely skewered... along with the beef cooked at medium, and lamb cooked at medium well. The humus was delicious as it went well with the bread. The meat was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Aside from the meats on our plates, there was a large cooked chile, a cooked tomato, and rice. The presentation was there, and I really enjoyed it. The restaurant's kitchen probably took up over half the space of the building. The dining area was quite small, and there was a banquet in the back. The whole place was quite clean, and the ambiance was nicely decorated with painted windows, crown moldings around the edge of the ceilings, and and decorated lights installed on the walls. The service was good. The waiter took our order and brought out our food at a decent time. He also consistently checked up on us. Good job. This place is a family favorite. It's got a small front dining room (and a large banquet hall for events in the back) which is kind of this cheap looking want to be fancy style which doesn't really make sense, but it doesn't matter because you come here for the food. Its classic homemade Armenian food which with something for everyone. Obviously with a name like Golden Skewer people are expecting kabobs, which they have a variety of and are great, but don't skip over what I think are the best dishes at this restaurant which are the Sarma appetizer, the hummus, and the lentil soup. Sarma is a cold pickled grape leaf soaked with oil and lemon wrapped over a mound of seasoned rice. I understand it's may be an acquired taste for some, but this place hands down has the tastiest and most tender sarma I've had. Everyone loves hummus and with like 50 different flavors and brands at any given supermarket it's hard to decide who has the best, but I believe it's here at golden skewer. It's simple, silky and smooth, but super tasty. A must try if coming here. Another favorite is the lentil soup. It's strange that something so simple like boiled lentils, onions, and spices in a broth can be as tasty and comforting as this bowl is, but...it is. To add more body to your lentil soup try ordering a side of bulgur. It's a cracked wheat, which here they flavor with a little onion and probably butter. It's soft like a grain, but has crunchy and poppy bits in it which hold up really well if you eat it with the soup. read more
