Can I just say I love when a restaurant doesn't give up, makes a new plan and comes back with a vengeance. Golden Skewer is one of those spots! I was craving Middle Eastern and I realize I hadn't checked out the spot in over a decade, so I decided to give it another try. I walked in and the layout has completely changed in a good way. I love that. They're changing it into a wine bar at night starting at the end of the month, but the food is amazing. The portions are a bit small but the quality is definitely there. The servers were friendly and very helpful when it came in the menu. It is not a fast food spot, so do not expect your food to come out quickly but when it does come out, it's so good. The garlic sauce was to die for and the falafel was cooked just right, I definitely will be coming back.

I was in Montebello to catch a movie, but was craving Mediterranean food. So, a friend and I Yelped this spot to grab a bite before the movies. This establishment is in a large strip mall next to a bakery and near a gym. Parking wasn't an issue as they have ample parking. When I walked in, I thought to myself that the decor looked a little bougie. Although it was 90 degrees out, I felt like I was under dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. I also realized that they had another section in the back to cater for large private parties. I believe they rent out the space for weddings, birthdays, and company events. There was about 9 tables that would seat 4 per table. I stood for a good minute as I did not see any hosts or servers. Shortly after, a server came out of the kitchen. He told us we can sit anywhere and provided us with menus and water immediately. After our order was taken, he brought out some pita chips with garlic spread and hummus. I can tell you that this place has the most potent garlic spread ever! For you garlic lovers, this is for you! We got the Greek salad with salmon and a skewer plate which we did a combo of one beef and one chicken. It wasn't on the menu, but our server said he could do it for us. The food is delicious and I will definitely be back for the potent garlic spread!

Beef Kabob, cucumber, tomato onions, with a grilled tomato and chili yummy

Food is always amazing. Their service here is platinum. The atmosphere is great. We are always happy with everything.

Luleh beef and chicken with bulgar rice and Armenian salad. Amazing!

This place was a home run. We went in blind not reading reviews and it exceeded our expectations. It is extremely clean and welcoming. The music and atmosphere was calming as they played 1940s jazz. The food was amazing. We started off with an appetizer of hummus and pita and pita chips, it was a great texture and the taste was really good. We then got the combo kabobs (chicken and beef) with bulgar rice and Armenian salad, and a chicken breast skewer plate with basmati rice and Armenian salad. It was cooked well and had great flavor. The grilled chili and tomato is an amazing touch and has amazing flavor and spice. The salad is so fresh and delicious. Service was great, the gentlemen helping us was kind and polite, and made us feel welcomed. I highly recommend this place!

My wife was craving for Mediterranean,Armenian cuisine then I told my wife let's go to the Golden Skewer Restaurant in Montebello. We step in the restaurant then we ask it's a take out then we look at the menu then we decided to order the chicken breast kabobs come with roasted vegetable, hummus, rice pilaf and a pita bread. To took away while because everything is made fresh daily at the restaurant. When our meal real we left and headed home but the aroma from food amazing and also we got a new car scent from the food. I open the container and food looks so good but the taste incredible good so much flavors in the chicken breast kabobs season good cook perfect all the spices seal in chicken while cooking. The hummus was good then I try the rice pilaf also good then roasted vegetable very good then use the pita bread to complete the meal. The garlic spead was good but little bit strong flavor but my wife say it was little bit strong for her. We enjoy the food we need to come back again.

We haven't been to this Montebello staple in a long time, but sometime during our absence, the owners and management changed. Golden skewer has always been a local hangout, but on this return visit something seemed different. The menu changed its look, and had some items the prior incarnation lacked-- ikra, lebni, sarma, and a few other appetizers. The entree section featured ribeye steak and babyback ribs-- definitely a welcome addition! (both are delicious cooked in the middle eastern style) When we walked in, the dining room had been remodeled from what it was before to a more upscale, swankier vibe. Also, the dining room was more than 80% full-- a really good sign. I used to get take-out from here and I don't remember the room being this packed with diners. The food at the old Golden Skewer was always pretty good, but it seemed tastier and brighter (if "brighter" is a thing). Our luleh combo with both chicken and beef luleh tasted fresh and well seasoned. Both of our sides -- 1/2 bulger & 1/2 fries -- were also well executed and tasty. Their lentil soup also changed to a brighter tasting broth as opposed to the old version that's more earth toned and stew-like in consistency. It was different, but still tasty. The old Golden Skewer has always been the kind of place that had decent food. It was an "okay place". It was convenient and you knew what you were gonna get. This new management took a decent Armenian place and gave it a great makeover. I really like their menu additions in both their appetizer and entree sections, as well. They also make a refreshing glass of sangria (both red and white). The service is nice and attentive. Would totally return to try their other menu items-- or maybe even get the same thing again. What's a plus about this location is ample parking and ease of access from either Beverly Blvd or Wilcox Avenue. This new, revitalized, version 2.0 Golden Skewer is a welcome addition to my neighborhood eats.

Chill vibes and Mediterranean food is a must! Cute local spot, upgraded interior and delicious food. Great garlic sauce and taziki, ask for it on the side. My only complaint was the amount of lettuce in the Greek salad, should have been more veg. Salmon was delicious and really enjoyed the fried pita. #supportlocalbusiness

It was 1982, I was five, and I vaguely believed that my cousin was a princess because her wedding dress resembled Princess Di's in my mind. The ceremony itself was in the (then new) Holy Cross Cathedral, which shares its parking lot with Bagramian Hall (the cathedral is also a prominent location in the movie Sideways). And then afterward, we walked up the cool weird gradual steps to this brand-new and gigantic hall. It was bigger and fancier than anything I had ever seen. That was the first of at least ten weddings I would attend here before I turned forty, and later, it hosted the memorial luncheons for various friends and family members, including those for my aunt, grandmother, and great aunt. It's also the first place I ever attended a wedding (another older cousin's) with more than 500 guests. I have so many fond memories of helping sweep up the shabash (money) that guests throw when people are dancing, and since I first came here as a five-year-old and never stopped returning, I grew up in a sense as an Armenian party-goer here. They did major renovations to the interior in the early 2010s, so it doesn't look as dated as it did even by the late '80s. I do miss some of the ridiculously tacky furnishings inside, especially the huge blocky railings and steps and the strange decorations behind what was originally where the head table was, before they moved it down by the dance floor, before they moved it back to its original location. Some of the renovations themselves are starting to look early-2000s dated as well, but it still looks nicer than it did when it first opened. The south wall used to be dominated by floor-to-ceiling windows with French doors. There were huge ugly curtains covering it most of the time, because of the sun, but it was really neat because you could walk out directly from the hall itself outside to a kind of concrete porch that had its own set of gradual long steps down to the cathedral. When they renovated the hall, they replaced the glass with a normal wall. It makes the hall look darker (during the day) and smaller, although it's the same size. As kids, we loved those doors, because people used to go outside to get a breath of fresh air or to smoke--although smoking was originally allowed inside the hall until the laws changed in the 1990s--and we kids would exit through those doors (if they weren't locked, which they often were) and reenter through the lobby, or vice versa. When I come here now, everything looks smaller, from the parking lot to the restrooms to the dance floor to the interior of the hall itself. Growing up has a way of changing a person's perspective, but there's still a little bit of wonder I have when I come here. I can remember generally where I sat at a bunch of different people's weddings, and there are a dozen stories I want to tell but won't. Although every event I've attended here has had some relationship to the affiliated cathedral and/or the Armenian community, I know that the hall also hosts New Year's Eve, birthday parties, bingo nights, banquets, and fundraisers. It's a very large space, and although it's modular in the sense that they can set up as few tables as you need and it can still look nice, it's probably not worth it unless you're expecting hundreds of guests. There's also a much smaller banquet room in the same building with its own separate entrance from the parking lot. It used to be called Toumajian Hall, but when I was here a couple weeks ago, the sign read TOUMAJIAN YOUTH CENTER, so I'm not sure whether it's still rentable outside of church-related events. I've been to hokujashes and birthday parties there; the two halls are connected physically through the kitchen, which both spaces share.

We had multiple children at our wedding and there were no issues at all. Overall working with Bagramian Hall was easy, very clear, and everything was well taken care of. If there are no events the day before your event, you can even start setup early. Sidenote: It's true, weddings only!

We received many compliments from our guests about the venue and the overall experience. Unfortunately, our experience with the owner was very different. While he fulfilled everything outlined in our contract, his interactions during setup made the process much more stressful than it needed to be. Our set up and rehearsal felt uncomfortable after being spoken to sharply, including being reprimanded for leaning on a table. When I politely asked if we could add one additional table (at a cost, if at all possible)), I was also met with a raised voice. It was a simple question. I wasn't demanding or accusatory, but he became extremely defensive. Throughout setup, it felt as though we were being closely monitored rather than supported. To be fair, the venue honored every part of our agreement, and I appreciate that. However, hospitality is about more than fulfilling a contract. On such an important day, I hoped for a little flexibility, warmth, and kindness. Because of that experience, I personally would have a hard time recommending the venue, despite the beautiful facility and wonderful staff.

This review is way overdue. Life got ahead of me. I'm sorry, Emil and Lisa!…read more I had my daughter's quinceañera at El Palacio Hall on March 14, 2026. We hosted 175 guests. When we first started looking for venues, we had a few specific things in mind, and flexibility was one of them. On our first visit in March 2025, we met with Emil, the venue owner. He was very welcoming, friendly, family-oriented, and easy to work with. He answered all of my questions and was very transparent from day one. He never pressured us or made us feel obligated to choose everything the hall offered. All selections and packages were based on our budget and what we wanted to spend. When I walked into the venue, I was immediately attracted to the décor, high ceilings, and bar area. Everything was very clean, the white draping made the space feel even more open, and the floor plan was perfect. I knew I wouldn't have to do much. I did hire an outside vendor to help with the themed décor, but almost everything else, including the plating, was purchased through the venue. As the quinceañera date approached, we met the venue manager, Lisa. She became our go-to person for anything we needed. She was very attentive and made sure the event was a success and that everything looked beautiful on the big day. The day of the event, everything went very smoothly. We had a venue host who worked hand in hand with Lisa. I forgot his name, but he was very kind and helpful. I had many family members say, "This place is beautiful! I never knew this was here." No one had any issues with parking. The restrooms were well maintained throughout the event, the food was ready on time (we had the fajitas, beans, and rice which was very tasty), the serving staff was very efficient, and the air conditioning was blasting and felt great (the temperature that day was around 78-80 degrees). Every area of the venue was operating seamlessly. All-in-all I am very grateful to all the staff at El Palacio Hall because they helped make my daughter's quinceañera a success.
