I have had the worst experiences with Wardle's and just want to warn others…read more In June 2024, as a brand new chicken owners, I bought 3 Rhode Island Red hens from them. I was not able to go into the coop with the sales associate so he just went in, grabbed whatever three hens he could get and put them in my carrier. When I got home and took them out, I noticed one could barely walk. I tried to give her some rescue 911 electrolytes in her water and access to food thinking maybe getting scooped up and put in a box and then being in a car for 15 minutes was a stress on her nervous system and she just needed some time to acclimate. I called Wardle's to tell them what happened and asked if I could switch her for another hen. The manager told me no because she could be sick... even though that meant they had just sold me a sick chicken. She struggled for weeks. We had to keep her in a separate coop and spent countless dollars on a ton of different supplements trying to figure out what was wrong with her and to keep her alive. Finally we tried Vitamin B12 and after a few days of it in her water, she able to walk normally. Although she was always a pretty sickly chicken and not even a year later we found her dead in the coop one morning (no sign of attack or any injuries). Fast forward to September of 2025. We wanted to get a few chicks to raise and integrate with our flock. Against my better judgement, we went back to Wardle's to get chicks. They only had 4 week olds and again, we weren't allowed in the room where the brooders were to pick the ones we wanted so we just told the associate how many and which breeds. We got 3 gold laced Wyandottes, a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. I looked in the box and noticed one of the hens had a pretty big comb. I asked if that was normal because we definitely didn't want a rooster. They assured me it was a hen. 3 months later, our "hen" has started crowing. We can't have roosters in Lakewood so now we have to find someone to take him or cull him. It breaks my heart. Of note, since then we have ordered chicks from McMurray and Meyer's Hatchery and had really healthy, beautiful, hens. Not a single rooster. I would highly recommend ordering from a hatchery over buying any chickens from Wardle's!

Sometimes I wonder how they get it done, but they always seem to find a way. They feed, house, clothe, care for, and protect a number of horse that might otherwise be forgotten by society. They have one horse there that is over 42 years old! These are all sweet, precious animals cared for by sweet, precious, caring people. There'd be a lot fewer worries in the world if more people had hearts like the folks down at the Horse Protection League. Come on by sometime, (Wednesdays and Saturdays for volunteers), I'd love to meet you!

I love, love, love, love this place!…read more I've been volunteering here every Saturday since mid-February. Everyone is friendly and the horses are so sweet. It's amazing to me that HPL has no paid staff. It's entirely run by volunteers, so if you donate money to HPL, you can rest assured that the money goes towards caring for the horses and not overhead. The horses come from a variety of backgrounds - some are turned over by their owners, some are turned over by the state, some are purchased by HPL. If it were not for HPL, many of these horses would not have found a home. It's very likely they would have found themselves at the slaughterhouse, as, sadly, many, many, many horses do. Most of the horses at HPL are elderly and cannot be ridden. Many of the horses require a special diet or treatment for their health issues. So many of the horses are sweet with wonderful personalities. I've fallen in love with Teddy, Jackie, Mattie, Romeo, and so many others. HPL really seems to do right by the horses. Despite being 100% operated by volunteers, HPL ensures that each horse gets proper care. Emie, in particular, is truly dedicated to HPL and personally oversees many farrier visits, vet visits, trainer visits, etc. Volunteer days are Wednesdays and Saturdays. Volunteers are to arrive by 9am and volunteering usually concludes between noon and 2:30pm. The day begins with mucking - HPL is an equal opportunity mucker. Every one mucks regardless of their "importance", experience with horses, or tenure with HPL. After mucking is complete and when weather allows, the horses are groomed. This is everyone's favorite part and allows the volunteers to bond with the horses. I typically volunteer on Saturdays, and I can tell you that each of the Saturday volunteers are kind, wonderful people. They patiently explain how HPL would like you to perform certain tasks. I just thought it was hilarious so I asked about it and turns out there are good things in it for the dog so we decided to pick one out to bring back for our girls to be able to share a beer with Ben. While talking with the shop employee we learned about a lot of the different treats they have for dogs and how there are so many health benefits for them from things you wouldn't think of so we also decided to get some chicken and duck feet for them, along with something else that I can't remember the name of but he was most helpful. He also let us know that they will be opening a shop in Tampa soon, it will be in South Tampa and I keep checking the website but hasn't opened just yet but I am excited to become a customer of theirs once they are!

At the time I had two dachshunds, one with a sensitive tummy. I wanted to find something that they could both eat. I also expressed that they both were constant paw lickers. I read that it could be due to an ingredient in their food. Jess gave me a free sample and the girls LOVED it. After trying multiple expensive Vet recommended brands that my pups did not love, I knew that we had to give it a try. Within weeks they both gradually stoped excessively licking their paws and their coats were noticeably more shiny. I felt good knowing they were eating fresh nutritious food. We were shocked at the results and extremely happy! The ordering process is easy and getting set up online was a breeze. After receiving a few orders at work my coworkers had questions. Jess was happy to speak with them and give them a sample as well. Now multiple of us order from her and we couldn't be happier. My vet recommended we switch my girls to a senior brand. When I showed her the ingredients in the Pet Wants senior kibble she was impressed. The Customer Service I receive from Jess is always above and beyond. She truly cares about you and your pets needs. Two years ago, one of my girls gained her angel wings. When I cut my order in half and told Jess the heart breaking news, she honored my girl on her page and gave me a thoughtful memorial piece. By purchasing a puppy, you've basically opened up a spot for another poor dog to be brought into this world.You're also financially supporting the store that buys the puppies in the first place. Let's not forget that they sold you a SICK puppy, and they are ABSOLUTELY at fault for the ear infection. Edited to Add: Dogs from puppy mills are known for being ill-bred with poor genes and are more susceptible to problems as they age. The same goes for other animals such as budgies (parakeets). In the parrot world, we see this all of the time. A budgie's projected lifespan is 12-15 years. However, a recent survey of budgie owners in several parrot forums I'm a member of revealed that most pet budgies are living to the ripe old age of THREE. Budgies are perhaps one of the most inbred species of animal sold in pet stores. Poor genes and inbreeding are one of the highest causes of death in pet store budgies. I wouldn't be surprised if we find the same trend with puppy mill dogs. As the owner of several rescued animals I find the statement above not only heinous but revolting.

The owner who was very upset said that she was worried that the girl wouldn't be able to care for the dog, because she couldn't even pay to purchase it. ( I DO NOT CONDONE STEALING, but I think that given the way that they treat their customers it was probably an easy mark) The store was opened because the woman had always loved animals, so her husband bought her a business. :( I think this might be the place for Paris Hilton, to get her next purse pet.

At no time did Ken ask me or pressure me to buy a tractor, just explained the functions, and when I was ready to leave he gave me a card and said call with any questions. A week later I returned and bought a BX23 from Ken. For most sales people this would have been the end of it. Ken helping with me Getting the right transport trailer, walked me through on the phone operational questions during multiple phone calls and even a video call when I got stuck reattaching my backhoe to the tractor.
