As far as strip-mall Chinese goes, I find Golden Star to be the best in the area. It's what you expect... Fast, inexpensive, and tasty. Unlike other similar places, I have not had a bad meal here or had to endure the lower-quality meat experience. One star goes away because I have never been able to make peace with the yellow fried rice these places serve. Excellent fried rice is flavored with soy sauce and is brown, never yellow. Normally a favorite, I just skip the fried rice at these places. Growing up in the 1970s and 80s, of course I prefer the sit-down Chinese restaurant experience, but that is becoming very rare these days. Well, I finally found my new good Chinese restaurant. The first lunch order of a couple different styles was great and the whole family loved it. The chicken seemed pretty high-quality. The flavor was great And the service was very good. Will definitely be back to try a few more times. I will say that this is no sitdown option. I've been ordering out here for probably like 5 years now and it's easily the best fast-paced Chinese restaurant in Seminole blows Panda Express out the water. It's definitely expensive but the food taste makes up for it. You call and tell them what you want from the menu and you go to pick it up 15 minutes later. Sometimes they even give a fee 2 liter soda of your choice if you buy a lot. Their General Tso and Fried Pork is some of the best I've ever had. Best Chinese in Seminole! Great price and great service. I usually call it in to go and it's ready for pick up within 10 minutes. I always get the sweet-and-sour chicken. It is honestly one of the best I've ever had. It's not over breaded. And I usually also order the general chow chicken, extra spicy . The fried dumplings are absolutely fantastic as well. I was not impressed, at all. They did have nice big white meat chicken pieces for the sweet and sour chicken, and pretty tasty crab Rangoon. Those were the best points of the meal. Ok so, this place has good food. I have visited Hong Kong, lived in Chicago and Los Angles for a time and this place is pretty darned good food . Not GREAT! or AMAZING, but solid B+. The two things they need to work on are there communication skills and communication with the kitchen. We ordered a dish with no onions, but there were onions in there. Thankfully the pieces were big enough to pick it out of the food. As far as the communication goes, it s not that they don't speak really good English, because they do. It is that they have the personalities conversation flow of a thimble. Not rude per se, but just zero kindness or customer service oriented interactions over the phone. I would definitely recommend for the food, but just maybe use their online ordering portal. When I asked for a manager, that seemed like a chore even I told the person who answered the phone that I would to complement the kitchen. I asked "Is this one of the managers?" And he replied with "maybe." I then asked him if the dish in particular is always made to order/ fresh? He answered with "Do I need to answer that?" As if he did not want to. Soggy Chinese vegetables (nappa cabbage, bok choy and canned mushrooms) overcooked in an abundance of cooking oil, served with limited amounts of, hmmm... "interesting " meats, are definitely edible as long as you add copious amounts of sodium-rich soy sauce, hot mustard and other standard pre-packaged "Chinese" condiments! Thankfully, these inexpensive packets we're all too familiar with, do an excellent job of overpowering the mundane, bland and uninspired offerings. Great people, great food, great service! We are here a lot and this is one review that I smile while I do it. Always smiling and nice, the young girls that are there in the afternoon after school are very sweet. The food is great, I love the Hunan chicken, the family likes the sweet and sour chicken and the sesame chicken. Good Chinese take out that we've been getting for almost three years now. So I have been going to this place since I moved to Seminole a little over 4 years ago. Hong-Kong was recommended to me on Park boulevard by friends and we didn't like it at all. So one day we were searching for a Chinese restaurant, saw this place saw that it was close and decided to order. We like the food quite a bit. However the people that own it have the personalities of wet blankets. But that doesn't stop me from going somewhere and no judging. Everyone is different. Until a young girl started working there and I'm simply guessing but it's probably the owner's daughter. She usually takes the orders on the phone and she is horrible at it. Multiple times we have not received exactly what we ordered and we always order a lot so it's really hard to go through the big bag and figure out if we have it all. Several times we have called and said hey you guys forgot this or an order is incorrect but we don't want to drive back. They've never apologized when we call back, not one time. Usually get defensive and always say oh no no you didn't order that or whatever. We just deal with it because we've always liked the food and it's not worth it. So recently with everything that's going on people are asking about Chinese restaurants and for years now not having any more sit down places that are true restaurants. So I recommended golden star multipletimes. As result I was getting a hankering for some Chinese food so I went there tonight. This will be the last time we go there. One of the things we ordered was shrimp egg foo young. I checked the bag when I got to my car and did not realize until we got home that the egg foo young gravy was missing. You cannot have egg foo young without gravy. So I called to tell them and the owner answered. She was silent the whole time I spoke, didn't say one word until I asked if somebody was there. She said yes it was too loud I didn't hear you. She didn't say I'm sorry nothing just listened to what I had to say that I was on my way. I said OK good bye and I never disconnected my Bluetooth call and finally she just hung up, again without speaking a single word. This is not that big of a deal but she made it one by being rude and not caring at all. Then when I got there the young girl that I was referencing above sees me come in, she turns around speaks to the owner in Chinese who is hiding somewhere in the back. The young girl turns around and hands me the gravy and does not speak one single word, not one. So we're done. We both own our own businesses I would never in a million years have somebody like that working for me let around as an owner of the company act like that to your clients or customers. My husband owns a travel agency and that kind of thing would lose him a lot of money and a client would be gone forever. It doesn't matter how good the product is you cannot treat your customers like that. Again I know things happen but this is the straw that broke the camel's back. We are going to try China king on Walsingham and zom hee on park. Both of those places get 3 or 4 times more recommendations and golden star. Food was decent, people friendly but this place is not very clean IMO... You can see that only things required to be done for an inspection are done just enough to pass it. No paper towels in the bathroom, a reused dish soap bottle with clear hand soap in it to wash your hands, white restroom door is almost black around where people touch it and light switches caked with dirt even next to food serving counter. I am afraid of how bad the back must look , the front door was open today, all lights and AC off and no screen to keep the bugs out in front. In their defense the last health inspection mostly was temp and label violations, much better than other strip mall Chinese restaurants I see on the news. read more
