If you grew up in the 60's-80's and went to a Chinese restaurant with your family for Friday or Saturday night dinners, this is that place. Opulent insides with traditional Chinese red colors and booths and tables. Tablecloths and a full bar with a large menu to match. Service was very good and the food comes out fast, so if you get an appetizer hold back on ordering the main meal. Dumplings were good but warm, needed to be hotter, soup was also good and hot. I'm glad I finally decided to try this joint again...on my birthday for all that matters. Place is definitely worn around the edges and kinda tired looking despite all the Chinese decor. This time we sat at the bar rather than wasting time with a table. That's where we found Rob... Rob has apparently worked there on and off for 30 years or so. Very honest about what is and ain't a good value, what tastes good and what doesn't. So that helped us stay away from the so called deluxe family dinner on the back page and just go for things to zero in on based on what we like. Way to go, Rob... My dear Queen Bee likes fried dumplings and I prefer wonton soup and maybe an egg roll. Soup was quite nice whereas the dumplings and egg roll were serviceable. Sauce for the dumplings was an out and out train wreck, like the old lushes sitting at the other end of the bar. I had pork fried rice and Queen Bee: hung shu opp, which is duck atop Chinese veggies with a lovely brown sauce. Duck was expertly cooked and crispy with nicely done veggies. PFR reminded me of the stuff I used to eat in NYC as a much younger man/boy. Wow! Glad we gave this dump another go round. Yes, it's a bit dumpy, worn round the edges, needing a good scrubbing, cleaning and all round update. Enough failures for us to save never again. Different menu items attempted and only one item has been what we can call good and that is the easiest of all items Chop Suey. Rarely do I give a 1 star but they have earned it so many times that it is my fault for ordering again. A friend made the same mistake and ordered a large to go order for a dinner party we attended and when he said where he got it we said oh no - which soon was echoed by everyone else. My grandson and I went there for lunch and never having been there before we were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance. Very nice restaurant and was told they'd been open for 41 years! As many times as I'd passed it on Park Blvd was really surprised that I'd never seen it before. The lunch was ok and flavorful. I had pork that was tough to chew but plentiful and my grandson had a chicken dish that he thoroughly enjoyed. We both had won ton soup that was excellent. I would consider Zom Hee a classic style Chinese restaurant. It is not the same style of Chinese food you get from takeout. I have been here twice and I think it's fantastic. The restaurant has a very old classic Chinese restaurant feel. It opened in 1985 and it looks like they haven't changed any of the decor since then. Service is attentive and courteous. Spicy dishes are offered in different levels (mild, medium, or hot). I ordered the Mandarin Style Pork hot, and it was very hot. I loved it but I was sweating while eating it so beware. If you want a little heat you're better off ordering medium. Most entrees are served on metal serving dishes making it easy to share them family style amongst the table. Lastly, the cocktails are served in unique glasses and tiki mugs. It's just another throwback to what I consider classic Chinese restaurant style and it's a lot of fun. Beef Szechuan and Hung Shu Chicken this time were great. The pre-dinner pickled vegetables were very good too. The cocktail lounge and vintage drinks are amazing. I had a Tahitian's Scorpion (which I probably would never have anywhere else). It even came with a little umbrella. Our server was good. Food came out pretty quickly. Zom Hee is out go to place but this visit Inhave to give it 3 stars. The food and drinks are spectacular as always, but the service and wait time was sub par. Our server was very friendly but o my came to the table maybe 3 times. Never got a drink refill or order. The owner had to go and find my husband's drink from bar. Then my husband had to go to bar to order next round of drinks. The food took about 45 min to come out. The server explained the chef had retired and they had a new one still learning the ways. That is understandable, but the lack of service was not. We will go back again but will wait awhile before we do so they can get some of their kinks worked out. read more

Been looking for good 'classic' Cantonese in the area for quite a while, finally found Zom Hee and it's worth the half-hour drive from our home to get there. They actually have the sliced BBQ pork appetizer with hot mustard we were looking for and it's good. Chow mein, wonton soup, and S&S chicken were very good too. Good drinks, reasonable prices, great variety of stuff on the menu, generous portions, friendly service, nice atmosphere. We'll definitely be going back. read more

I had the Chicken with broccoli which was mislabeled and should have been Broccoli with chicken scraps and been on a near vegan menu. Easily one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. It's tucked into a strip mall so looks can be deceiving. For starters the service was outstanding. The severs name was Yoko and she was great. The food was top notch. I had the sesame chicken with white rice and it was delicious. I also sampled the fried rice and the garlic shrimp and both were great. Everyone in our party was very happy with the food. Lastly the decor was great. Very retro looking. Ordered Zom Hee for Chinese Food on Christmas!! Gotta love a Jewish tradition! This was the best Chinese food I've had in my 10 years in Tampa Bay. It was absolutely perfect. Great portions, delicious food. I got the Christmas combo with beef/broccoli and pork fried rice. I couldn't tell that there was pork in the fried rice, but it was yummy regardless. The egg roll was large, the beef was delicious and not slimy like I find it can be at some places, and there was a fair amount of the meat too. I tried the crab rangoon (yum!) and the rest of my friends really enjoyed their meals and the dumplings. Overall, an ideal Chinese food experience! When we came in to pick up our order, we had planned for it to take some time and be takeout only. There were quite a few people waiting. We ate here recently and my husband and I were hugely disappointed after reading all of the rave reviews. The food was bland and oily. Our spicy tofu was not remotely spicy and we specifically asked for it to be medium heat. Service was good and the ambience was exactly as expected. I've eaten here at Zom Hee plenty of times and I've had nothing much to add to my five star glowing review of my first visit. This time my meal was so exceptionally nice I had to update my review. Started off with a St Petersburg Sling cocktail which is served in a tiki style mug (see picture). Tasty as well as cute. I also ordered the bbq pork appetizer (which I get every time I am here) and for my entree I tried the seafood platter. The seafood platter ($22.95) while not the most expensive dish on the menu is at the high end of their entrees and well worth it! Most seafood platters have more vegetables than seafood. The Zom Hee seafood platter has more seafood than I've ever had in an entree anywhere! Our server, Julia, was also a treat. Consistent food, fair pricing considering what take out chinese places cost for 1/2 the quality. One of the few places that actually has the GOOD brown fried rice, crunchy noodles, and the sweet & sour chicken is an actually breaded filet sliced with veggies and pineapple in the sauce. Not nuggets. Super friendly professional staff, good banter but not over the top, and they visit the tables just enough. Great chill vibe, quiet, no modern music and almost never hear crying kids. Walking in, and sitting in the retro red leather booths, I'm back in the day schmoozing, and sitting for hours at our favorite table, drinking gallons of hot tea (leave the lid up on the pot so they know when you need a refill), and ordering every appetizer on the menu... Ah, the the good old days, when they knew how to make the mustard hot enough for your head to explode, and the really thick duck sauce (made out of real duck), only kidding. Anyhow Cuz, and I enjoyed, really enjoyed their delicious bar bq spare ribs, which are huge, so meaty, and succulent. I had of shrimp Egg Foo Young, and my dear cousin had Double Luck Chow Yuk; shrimp, beef, mixed vegetables in a house brown sauce we, shared and we both enjoyed the two entrees. VERY good and authentic Chinese Restaurant. I have been to a few cities where they actually have a Chinatown area (Cleveland and Toronto) and Zom Hee fits in perfectly with those areas. The food is great, reasonably priced and comes with complementary tea and delicious pickled cucumbers. Our waitress was very attentive and the owner also came by our table to say hello and ask if everything was good. The restaurant itself is very comfortable and clean with a cool old school style decor. It also has a nice bar area where you can also enjoy your meal. Please- if you like Chinese food- go here and try it. Everything is good. You will get a lot of hot tea and water to start. The hot tea is so good. I have been obsessed with the Singapore Curry Noodles (says spicy but it's not)- they come with shrimp. This dish is huge and so very good. My son loves their regular curry and my husband gets something new every time. Their drinks are fantastic too! Try the St. Pete sling. It's very tasty (and strong). Their Mai tais are good and I've been tempted to ask for a "Harvey Wallbanger" because I have never seen it on a menu before but they have it and am a fan of the movie "Date Night" (if you haven't seen it- watch it!). If we are going on atmosphere only, this is a five all day long. Set in a strip mall, once you walk inside, you think you are in the late 70's in New York. This place is a time capsule to a golden age. Photos of Bill Clinton and Jeb Bush welcome you in. The food is served in beautiful dishes, as are the speciality drinks (poured stiff and priced nice), but unfortunately the food does not match. Food is expensive, and just doesn't taste flavorful. This is NY Chinese food, not Cantonese, but with Cantonese prices. Go here for the drinks and atmosphere, but there are plenty of better spots for food. read more

I was very disappointed. First time eating here, chosen because it had good ratings and the restaurant was packed but the food did not meet expectations. Dumplings were burnt and did not come with ponzu sauce. Singapore rice noodles were extremely bland and did not seem like they were cooked in a wok, it was borderline spaghetti textured. Honey chicken had little glaze on them, also lacking flavor. Salt and pepper shrimp was probably the better one of them all but that's not saying much. It was just breaded shrimp and again no flavor.
