The original Golden Steer was cafeteria food Seniors appeared the be the only one dining here. I assume that is why the place closed, the customer base aged out and they couldn't sustain themselves. When the place reopened with a new team, you could immediately see that the prices were high, portions were small and the quality was questionable. They chocked the life out of this place and threw a last minute hail mary with a $20 rib eye meal. OK, I've gotta be honest. We didn't try the food, but I checked out other people's plates as they went past me, but I definitely decided with the overpriced and lack of what I saw appealing wise and the cleanliness of this location or shall I say lack of cleanliness as well as the dirty bathrooms. It gave such a terrible ghetto ambience that I got out of there. We stayed and hung out for an event about an hour, but I had to leave. The food was not really good, the service was very good; friendly wait staff. The ambiance, well to be honest I'm not sure what to say about it...it's like a mix of a restaurant and a bar but no real set of characteristics. There's a small stage for bands or dancing but nothing else to keep bar goers occupied. Mostly regulars go here. The management, well so we had the big plate and to be fair, it sucked. We complained and the manager only gave us 1/2 off that item, which is kind of poor and it was communicated to us via the server and not the manage. Just poor in my opinion. I have had the pleasure of eating at the Golden Steer and ordering from The Comfort Zone Restaurant during their Pop-Up, and the food was amazing. The oxtails melt in your mouth and the macaroni and cheese is so cheesy and flavorful, that it is a meal within itself. I vote to have them at the Golden Steer FULL TIME. read more

This restaurant is under new ownership and reopened. The menu is simple and no frills, they also have breakfast. I ordered the Salad bar, New York Steak with veggies and a Baked potato. The steak was good, a lower quality of New York steak but it was good. I ordered it medium well and only one corner was tough. The seasoning was spot on and no steak sauce was needed. The Baked potato was overcooked. The veggies were steamed and good. The salad bar was surprisingly good and I'd add it on again. Full bar as well. It was a night with a few other diners. She was patient until our 3rd showed up. The interior looks the same from the 60s and I hope they never change it. As they get their foothold from being open for a while the steaks will improve. For today, I am really giving Golden Steer 3 1/2.... for now. I say this because The new owners just re-opened. They did some remodeling and are still working on some finishes. They are making the back banquet room into the live music and dancing room. It will have a separate bar from the main restaurant. This will be a very nice addition to the restaurant. They are also still staffing the restaurant. However, we were greeted by friendly hostess. We met the new owner and he and his wife seem very nice. I really wish them great success. The food was average. But since they are just getting started, I believe they could easily make it great. I had simple Greek fries and calamari. My husband had seasoned chicken wings. Although they were average, he enjoyed them because they didn't have any breaded and tender. My dad had the fish n' chips. He loved the fries because there wasn't any seasoning. He said the fish was really good. My friend d had the Chicken strips and fries. She said the chicken was tender and not over breaded. All in all, the food was good. We did enjoy a cocktail to start. The lounge area (where we sat) was busy and buzzing. It was good to see people returning after the restaurant had been closed from the previous owners. I stopped for lunch at 1:30 pm today, Wednesday, interested in trying their ribs. Looking over the menu, however, I was put off by their prices. A full rack of ribs dinner was $38.00. A half rack was $27. Even a 1/4 rack (meat only as a side) was $9.50... is that 2 ribs or 3?). I settled for the Roasted Turkey dinner which was $16.99. It came with all the trimmings - mashed potatoes, dressing, steamed vegetables, cranberry sauce, and... ... a single slice of turkey breast 1/4" thick and, gravy all over to create a beautiful presentation (see pictures). The vegetables (carrot, broccoli, zucchini and green pepper) were "al dente" and were delicious. The single slice of turkey was sitting on a cup of dressing, next to 2 cups of mashed potatoes, with maybe a 1/2 cup of gravy. The meal was a heavy carb load, with 3-4 oz of turkey... hardly a value at $17! The waitress asked me if she could close out my ticket in the middle of my meal, because she was done for the day. She was charming and very grateful; I was happy to accommodate her... ...but I'm just saying, this was not a great meal experience, it was okay, but expensive. ...very nice interior decor and plenty of parking. 3-stars read more

This place used to be good, not anymore! Stopped for lunch and ordered a California chicken sandwich. Not sure what they call what I got, but there were a couple chicken nuggets, an unidentifiable small piece of really overcooked meat, a piece of burnt bacon, and some Swiss cheese on my sandwich. I'm not sure that I have ever sent food back, but I couldn't eat whatever this thing was. We were the only customers there, which should have been a dead giveaway, but we were there for an hour and 40 minutes. I will never be back, think twice before you drop in! read more

We attempted to make reservations for a party of 8. The didn't take reservations, but told us there would be no problem with seating us, which was true. However, what they didn't tell us that they no longer served meat, only seafood. The restaurant stank and there were no patrons inside, other that a couple at the bar. Frozen steak, overcooked TWICE! Meat balls were frozen and cooked maybe 3 or 4 times. Dry and no flavor. Steamed veggies were basically raw, which is better than mush. They have Greek food on the menu, and probably are more familiar with that cuisine. They should abandon steak and stick to what they know. read more

Ok... well shame on me for not leaving any reviews earlier... seriously. When this was owned by Jim Berrios and family, you could ALWAYS expect great service and comfort food style meals. Now with that said, and now an exchange of ownership... I am super excited and somewhat surprised to say... outside of seeing Jim's face greeting and checking in on people... nothing has changed. Same great service, same delicious foods!! I'm thinking they've kept the same cooks and servers. This definitely has such a family feel to it, from the familiar faces when being greeted, to such comforting meals whether it be breakfast (my favorite is the corned beef hash and various omelettes), to lunch or dinner meals. It's all great! We've been here for just about every occasion. We've rented out the back banquet room for my father in law's 70th birthday party, enjoyed Sunday brunches, karaoke nights, and of course, for breakfast,lunch, or dinner. Often times I grab a gift card for my parents to enjoy, as this is one of if not their favorite place. The servers have gotten to know them very well, and even check in on them if it's just my wife and I dining without them. One last thing.... if you're not much of a dessert person, that's fine... but if by chance you're a Carrot Cake fan... hot damn are you in for a heck of mouthwatering and taste bud explosion experience!!! I ordered the senior pancake with a hashbrown side. Let me tell you, that pancake was so big! And the hash brown was big too! We happened to be in the area of Kent, WA. and decided to stop by Golden Steer. I had read that they had a good prime rib, so I called to see if they serve it for breakfast and sure enough... #11 includes a 6 oz prime rib with hash browns, 2 eggs and toast for $17.19. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by the hostess, who sat us promptly. Our server, Carrie, was spectacular! She was friendly, efficient and checked up on us often, without being intrusive. The restaurant reminded me of a Sizzler in appearance and somewhat in their menu items as well. There appeared to be a lot of local regulars there, which is always a good sign! The restaurant is big and seemed to have 2 sides to it (the bar area and the dining area). The booths were very comfortable and the environment was equally inviting. Now on to the food! My prime rib breakfast was delicious! It had a wonderful seasoning on it and it was cooked to my liking (medium rare). The sunny side-up eggs were also done nicely, and the hash browns were crispy to a T. Prices seemed to be on par with similar restaurants, but what really made this restaurant stand out was the service. It's the type of hospitality service that you would get back in the good ol' days! First the bathrooms were disgusting water leaking all over the floor and only the handicap stall working. My husband and I decided to give the new owners a chance to win back our patronage where the old owners failed. Suffice to say, they have succeeded, what once was a dilapidated relic from the past has been transformed into the nostalgic local institution that it always should have been. The staff we encountered on our Sunday afternoon date were courteous, efficient, and knowledgeable. Jesús, our server, was willing to accommodate our dietary restrictions and substitutions and knew the menu well. Gabi, the food runner, took our drink orders and stopped by a few times to check in on us and refill our beverages. Even the bus boy, German, was courteous and made sure our needs were met as he passed. I don't know what the management did to create such an awesome team culture, but you can tell everyone from the host in front to the folks running food from the back care about the customer experience and each other. It makes my heart happy to be able to say that after years of avoiding a business on the decline, Golden Steer has rallied and is making me hungry for more. While the salad bar is gone, I cannot blame the new owners, as Covid restrictions made it almost impossible to keep. The walls, decor, booths, and tables seem cleaner, as if they did a deep clean with the ownership change. The stale cigarette smell that once permeated the entire establishment has been replaced by a clean homey scent, reminiscent of family Sunday dinners growing up. As for dinner, we ordered prime rib and rib eye steak. Both were cooked correctly to order and my husband chose to get his buttered, seasoned and blackened, a great choice, as the seasoning made meat that was already tender and flavorful, even more so. We both chose salads with what can only be home made blue cheese dressing. I cannot say enough about how good the dressing was. I have tried blue cheese dressings from all price points and levels of cuisine and this, might be my favorite. Even after finishing my salad, I found myself wishing for a few more bites (which for a seasoned carnivore is a feat in and of itself). I chose a loaded baked potato as my side, and my hubby elected to upgrade to seasonal vegetables. I know what you are think, seasoned veggies, an upgrade, but no seriously, the vegetable medley filled with peppers, carrots, celery, broccoli, and cauliflower was a splendid accompaniment to his steak and was steamed exquisitely well. As an aside, I ordered the largest option for prime rib, as I planned to have leftovers, but then I read that you can upgrade to as large of a cut as you want for a set price per ounce. This intrigues me greatly and will factor into my order when I return. We ordered carrot cake for dessert, and the rustic and homemade delicacy was a splendid finish to a satisfying and relaxed afternoon visit. I cannot stress enough how floored I am by the change in atmosphere, culture, and customer service that I have experienced today. I wish that every time I went to a restaurant, it could conclude with a feeling like this. I left feeling satisfied but more than that, I left feeling valued. I am going to return, I am going to bring my family and friends, and I am going to keep coming back. Golden Steer, you have won me over, a normally harsh critic, and made me, not just a customer, but an acolyte. This is my steakhouse, and it should be yours too. This was sold back in 2020 but lost customers to the point it closed in 2023. Recently reopened with new ownership so I had to try it. Nothing has changed on the outside. Inside there is a new floor in the entryway. The rest of the inside was the same decor and booths that have been there for years. It was a little chilly. I was greeted by one of the owners, the wife, who was also my server. I didn't care for the background music and was told to sit wherever I wanted. I picked a booth. There were a few patrons there as well. I judge a place by their chicken fried steak so went with my standby. It came with hash browns, scrambled eggs and choice of bread(sourdough). I was pleasantly surprised. The helping was plentiful and had great eye appeal. Tasted great but could have had a better sourdough. All in all I was pleased! Tried this place for my husband's birthday since it's been around so long. Big mistake. His steak was very bland, no seasoning at all. Mashed potatoes were a boxed mix. Clam chowder tasted like potato soup. Turkey dinner was thick sliced deli turkey. Steamed veggies had no seasoning either. We used to live in the area and we were super excited to visit one of our old favorite places. My husband ordered a meat lovers omelette with hash browns. I ordered Eggs Benedict with hash browns. The hash browns tasted like oil and grease with no potato flavor. The hollandaise sauce on my eggs Benedict was separated so what I was served was congealed greasy mess. I would have brought it to the attention of the server but she disappeared and never once checked on us after dropping off our food.
