Ok, continuing on my Chinese food crusade this restaurant was recommended by some guys on the job. Gave it a shot, went big on this one. Steamed dumplings, roast pork Ho Fun, and General Tso Chicken combo with pork fried rice. The dumplings were pretty good, nice doughy and meaty. The sauce could be better, but add a little hot mustard to it and it helps it out. The General Tso Chicken was pretty decent, could be a wee bit more spicy but otherwise still good. The broccoli that came with the dish, was ok. The fried rice I wasn't too crazy about. When using brown rice and adding peas and carrots, needs a little more cook time. Felt it was kind of mushy and definitely needed more pork. More cook time the rice can definitely taste better. The egg roll was ok, but I definitely had better. The winner and real earner for the 5 star rating was the Chow Ho Fun. The amount of pork, onions, snow peas, omg. Ho fun nicely loaded like this and the fresh chewy flavorful noodles, top notch! And it was the Ho Fun that most recommended to me and they were right. Prices are moderate, staff nice and friendly, and the place is fairly neat and clean. Take out only, few chairs to sit while you wait. Cash, card or Apple Pay. Place gets very busy so probably best to call in your order or use any delivery app. Will definitely return to try another dish, hopefully an improvement on the fried rice and maybe even go from six to eight dumplings per order(just a suggestion lol). But the Ho Fun I'm definitely ordering again. read more

Note: it's takeout only. It was a rainy day and I walked two blocks out of my way to come here and encounter the sign on the door. There are only a few "classic American Chinese" places in the West Village. Golden Woks and King Wok are the only ones I've been to. My review for Golden Woks is basically the same as King Wok--if it's what you want, it's great. But there's no deal here. I probably tasted the worst Chinese takeout meal ever today at Golden Woks on Christopher Street. I ordered the ten dollars pepper steak which was absolutely awful. I have no idea which animal the 'steak' came from but after one bite I flushed it down the toilet and threw the rest away. Ordered delivery via Grubhub and got the chicken with broccoli combination plate that came with pork fried rice and an egg roll, and added a pint of vegetable lo mein. It was pretty good, esp the egg roll, but the lo mein noodles were a bit overcooked. It's reasonably priced and huge portions. I liked that they give you fortune cookies to enjoy after which restaurants these days don't give anymore. Would probably order from here again. read more

I cannot believe that they cook and serve this food in New York City let alone any state or country where there are Chinese people. I ordered spicy shredded pork. It tasted like it had been cooked in Campbell's beef absolutely tasteless, so much so that I had to throw it in the frying pan and re-cook it with various kinds of Chinese sauces that I keep at home because I cook Chinese food frequently . Still here? Yes it is true, I have ventured to lands near and far, from the mall food court to the vast exurbs of the New York/New Jersey region. I have consumed exotic fare in the tiny mountain of village of Tuxedo NY, a scenic land, but so remote that there may be a 3 hour gap for the next train to Hoboken. I have traversed the thoroughfare sometimes known as The Silk Road of Flushing, Fresh Meadows and Jamaica Estates, Union Turnpike, in times so ancient that the Q-46 bus was called the Q-44A. The vast miles are accompanied by a wide range of emotions, tragedy to triumph, experiencing dinner at King Yum but never its karaoke, continuing to enjoy Dave's even though the shrimp with black bean sauce recipe from 1980 is no longer. The cuisine has delighted me when other places were closed due to holidays and has been the centerpiece of important moments ranging from a family dinner celebrating my acceptance to Elmira College to watching the Oscars in 2003 when Michael Moore got booed. TL;DR - American-friendly Chinese cuisine isn't the only game in town, but even though you'll find more authentic offerings in Flushing, this is an important genre that can vary quite a bit. Christopher's Golden Woks has been a success so far, with curry shrimp providing respectable heat levels and fresh vegetables. The fried chicken has far more flavor than grease and enticing crispiness. Roast pork with vegetables was good on my last visit, perhaps next time I'll venture into some less safe bets. The Uber Eats pickup speed has been great, making this place a recurring favorite for Hudson River picnics. read more

I have been ordering delivery for about 7 years, since 2016, from Golden Woks. The food has generally been good and fairly priced. I don't know it they changed owners but, tonight I ordered orange beef and sliced fish with ginger and scallions. The sliced fish was big chewy globs of some sort of batter with a sliver of fish inside. I ate 3 pieces and discarded the rest. I am trying to cut carbs and this dish was 80% carbs. The orange beef was so sweet that one would expect that it was brazed in dark Karo corn syrup. This was one of my go-to places for years but something has changed. The menu said nothing about battered fish or candied beef. Please take a look at your dishes and try to make them the way you did 7 years ago. Excellent Food! Huge Portions and this is the ONLY place in NYC that I personally have ever ordered from that makes their own homemade egg rolls. Every other restaurant I have ordered from uses those awful frozen tasteless ones. If you are eggroll lover, you will love these! I am so picky about my egg rolls so I am very impressed with these! Their sauces, literally swim in oil, the beef they use for the beef and broccoli is such a cheap cut that it is mostly grease, so much so, that I had to throw it away, and eat just the broccoli. I was putting up with them only because they sell fry slices of plantain, which they call tostones, (they are really not), and fry chicken with french fries, until one of their idiots accused my doormen of eating the delivered food, LOL. Love this place! I live close (3 blocks away) and have tried all the Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood plus the delivery restaurants. The pricey ones don't even compare to this spot. They also always accommodate any changes, allergies, etc. Food is fresh (not buffet) and prices are insanely good. I was new to New York and we were walking the Highline. Everyone kept asking me where we were stopping to eat and luckily Yelp saved the day by offering this place. We crowded around a small table and ate greasy delicious Chinese food that reminded me so much of the tiny place in my hometown. Somehow I managed to forget about it until looking through delivery places in my new neighborhood and stumbling upon it again. The food is not five stars-probably four at best. But the service is kind and the price is cheap. The delivery guy is the nicest person to ever drop off food to my apartment. He never gets frustrated even though I always forget to write my apartment number on the order. And the food is fast. Today I got it in less than thirty minutes. I was in the mood for some good greesy Chinese food. Everything was flavorless. Waste of money and calories.

I used to love this restaurant. Great tasty, affordable Chinese food. But ordered recently and sadly they are using what tastes like fake Chicken. We ordered three chicken dishes and with each one the chicken had a rubber and, squeaky consistency that tasted obviously processed, like it was made in a test tube. It was horrible. The crazy thing is the rice and vegetables are still fresh and delicious but when you bite into the chicken is tastes like your eating boiled plastic. I hope they fix this unfortunate issue ASAP and go back to using real meat instead of something that's obviously been made in a test tube. Very disappointing. read more

Some of the best take out Chinese food I've had in the city. Some friends and I ordered in and the food came quickly by a friendly delivery guy. The beef Ho was really tasty and cooked perfectly. The chicken and broccoli was delicious too. We ordered dumplings that were good, but not amazing. We also had an order of chicken wings that were really good.
