I love this soup kiosk! I tried the beef chili with rice and cheese. It was fantastic! The beans, beef and chili soup was well seasoned and super savory. If you're looking for something a bit spicy, this definitely isn't a spicy chili. However, they have tobacco sauce right on the counter if you'd like to add a little extra. This place is kinda easy to miss. It's sort of diagonally across from the food stand that sells breakfast fare (donuts and such), in a dark shack that's attached to the building adjacent. I had a very hard time deciding on which soup to get, but the woman who worked here was extremely kind and willing to give me samples of the different options. The beef chili was... SO good. I tried the veg chili after, but really just for kicks - I had already decided. You can get cheese on top, and rice on the bottom, if you like. It comes with a fantastic little smidgen of bread. Next time I'll pony up the 50 cents for an extra piece. I can't wait to go back and try the other soups! The price was right. In this area it's hard to find something this tasty for under $10. I was visiting my friend who recently moved to Soho and was craving some soup while she was at work. I didn't know where to go but stumbled across this place and was super pleased. I was walking around looking for a quick bite and found this cute little soup place and thought I'd give it a try. Got a small beef chili and walked to Washington square park to eat. It was actually pretty good, however on my last spoonful of chili I noticed a straight black hair on the bottom of my cup. I moved it up for better quality but I'm positive it's not mine considering my hair is long brown and curly , and slicked down with tons of gel right now into a bun. This place has some serious homemade soup. Nothing, Absolutely nothing beats it on a sub zero degree day for lunch. Recommend the N.E. clam chowder. It's as authentic as it gets. Minor, Minor draw back is the girl who works behind the counter is seriously on her own watch. Not that big of a issue only that the soup is so good that the line gets ridiculously long and on those sub zero degree days makes it seem forever long since. New England clam chowder ($6 for the small) was rich and creamy, with a good amount of clam and potato pieces mixed in there. Comes with your choice of standard oyster crackers (can't go wrong there) or bread (a little tough, but they also give you butter and dipping it in the soup helps immensely). I got both for an extra 50 cents, because I was hungry. Now, I am full. No complaints, and definitely something to keep in mind when you're out shopping in Soho. I love the Soup Kiosk. I actually called Fanelli's asking for a soup and they were like no ma'am... wrong place. Come to find out that the Soup Kiosk is it's own 2' x 8' box attached outside to Fanelli's! You learn something new everyday. The line gets long around the lunch hour but moves fast. The lovely girl who operates the Kiosk moves so fast and is always right! She can actually have a conversation while preparing 4 soups with a 10+ long line of peeps. I mean putting soup in a cup isn't hard but -- she's got this thing down-packed. They have delicious chicken noodle soup ($5 sm/$6 LG), perfect for a cold winter day and I've recently tried the NE Clam Chowder that was a hit and was creamy and definitely filling! Hipper than a food truck, this place is an actual shack. You'll find it on the SW corner of Mercer & Prince attached to Fanelli Cafe. I go with the small tomato soup for $5. It comes with a few slices of chewy bread and butter and makes for a satisfying lunch. We took the soup and bread to a nearby Starbucks on Crosby and Spring st. The clan chowder is average. There's nothing special about the soup, and almost taste like the soup you get from the can from Progresso. I don't know if that's a compliment to Progresso or bad on the soup kiosk. The Moroccan lamb had a deep flavor to it and nice big chunks of lamb. Overall very delicious! OMG I love this place. I don't know what it is about a kiosk that serves soup but it just makes me smile and it makes my life. It may be because I have a small obsession with consuming soup on a very regular basis even when it's 80° outside. i guess i visited the soup lady, she was right where yelp said she would be, on the corner of prince and mercer, attached to fanelli's. i guess i was expecting something different, a more homemade vibe with a crotchety old lady behind the counter, so you can imagine my wonder when i approached and saw a nice young girl in a more professional looking street side window. i was mistaken to have taken my prejudices with me back to the office. the soup was delicious. i got the chicken vegetable soup which came with huge chunks of fresh veggies (celery, onion, carrots, i think zucchini or something similar) and big cuts of good tasting chicken. i was very impressed. i also don't feel like i just ate a bowl of sodium, as some mass-produced soups can make you feel. if i have one regret its that i didn't grab a few more pepper packets. the soup could have used just a little spice. i will be making this a regular lunch stop once the weather turns. read more

I swear people from my office think I'm crazy when I venture out onto the Soho streets hunting for soup, but I do it all the time. I first came here in Summer 2009 when I was sick upon the recommendation of a friend and I am eternally grateful to him. I've had all of the vegetarian soups at one point or another and they are all delicious. The chili isn't particularly hot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing and the tomato soup is fairly sweet, so I usually add pepper. $6 for a huge cup and the lovely girls who work there always throw in crackers or bread. Totally satisfying. I've tried the avocado wrap before and I was really surprised how fresh and yummy that was, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Have brought a few friends here with me, but I don't know if anyone has the same appreciation I do for soup so I take their opinions lightly. No complaints. The trickiest part is finding a place in Soho to sit and eat. Usually I head to the benches on the corner of Prince & 6th Avenue across from Souen. Sometimes the bench north on Mercer St is free.
