    New England clam chowder
    John J.

I was in the mood for soup today and found this place here on yelp. I certainly wasn't disappointed. NE clam chowder was delicious and filling when lorded with the fresh baguette that came with it. The young lady in the kiosk was very friendly with all smiles considering the cold weather she was working In. I'd drop in again and try something else if I'm in the area someday.

Beef chili with cheese and rice.

I love this soup kiosk! I tried the beef chili with rice and cheese. It was fantastic! The beans, beef and chili soup was well seasoned and super savory. If you're looking for something a bit spicy, this definitely isn't a spicy chili. However, they have tobacco sauce right on the counter if you'd like to add a little extra. For $10 I got a large soup with rice cheese and bread cost $8.50. I gave the remaining $1.50 for tip. Again super tasty and a bargain lunch that really fills you.

The soup is in that little shack with the ivy growing on it

This place is kinda easy to miss. It's sort of diagonally across from the food stand that sells breakfast fare (donuts and such), in a dark shack that's attached to the building adjacent. I had a very hard time deciding on which soup to get, but the woman who worked here was extremely kind and willing to give me samples of the different options. The beef chili was... SO good. I tried the veg chili after, but really just for kicks - I had already decided. You can get cheese on top, and rice on the bottom, if you like. It comes with a fantastic little smidgen of bread. Next time I'll pony up the 50 cents for an extra piece. I can't wait to go back and try the other soups! The price was right. In this area it's hard to find something this tasty for under $10. It's cash only so hit up an ATM beforehand if necessary.

Chicken veg soup is always on fleek. $6 for a large.

A Soho staple! $6 for a large ($5 for a small) fresh, piping hot soup and a large chunk of fresh baguette will leave anyone happy. The line runs long during the cold and rainy days but it moves fast. I typically do a chicken & veg soup or half&half veggie/beef chili (my own creation for less calories and optimal deliciousness). You can sample anything and they also have sandwiches. There are 2 rotating soup ladies. It's possible they could be sisters, but they're both very efficient and sweet.

Very good and fresh. For $6.00 I had a huge bowl of homemade chicken soup and a delicious roll. Can't beat this in winter!

BUT, imho Adel's doesn't really taste as good as the original Halal Guys in terms of flavor and fragrance. The chicken from Adel's is in bigger chunks and some argue is more tender, but the flavor is definitely not close. Also, it's important that it comes with lettuce, tomatoes and a little onion to balance everything out. Finally, You must get both the spicy red and white sauce together to make it all come together! The Ugly: The smell is addictive, so if you walk by, it's hard to resist, even if you've just eaten a nice meal somewhere else. We couldn't resist. Gotta hit the gym hard for the next few days!

And that line is no joke. You will wait. Plan accordingly. Here's my dilemma: every single time I eat here, my stomach lets me know about it later. Without fail. I've tried adjusting the hot sauce, going easy on portions... doesn't matter. Something about this food and my digestive system just don't agree. At this point I have to accept that it's probably not for me. So why do I keep coming back? Because at 2 AM after a late night, when everything else is closed and you're starving in Times Square, that platter of chicken and rice over white sauce smells like salvation. They're the only game in town at that hour, and honestly, in the moment, it hits. It's the next morning I regret it. If your stomach handles it better than mine, you'll probably love it. The food is tasty and the portions are huge for the price. I just wish I could enjoy it without paying for it twice.

I do think they do as good of a job managing it as possible, but it is still quite the long line. If you do decide to wait in the line, I recommend sending a friend over to Magnolia Bakery to get you a treat while you pass the time. Overall, the lamb and chicken were extremely tender and flavorful. The sauce and rice were great as well, complementing them perfectly. The service is very efficient, and they do have a few cards set up to maximize the efficiency. It was great, and I'd say it's worth trying if the line is short! Adel's Famous Halal Food definitely lived up to the hype. Be prepared to wait--lines can stretch down the block, especially late at night--but the food is worth the patience. We ordered the Mixed Chicken and Lamb Over Spicy Rice along with a Lamb Gyro Sandwich. The platter was massive, piled high with tender chicken and lamb, flavorful spicy rice, fresh salad, and a generous drizzle of their signature white and red sauces. Every bite was packed with flavor, with the perfectly seasoned meat and spicy rice creating the ideal combination. The portions were easily enough to share, making it an incredible value for the price. The Lamb Gyro Sandwich was equally impressive. Stuffed with juicy lamb, crisp lettuce, fresh vegetables, and creamy sauce wrapped in warm pita bread, it was simple but incredibly satisfying. The meat was flavorful and well-seasoned, while the fresh toppings added the perfect balance. The atmosphere adds to the experience as well--watching the crew work nonstop on the grill, serving a constant stream of customers under the bright city lights, makes it feel like a true New York food adventure. If you're visiting NYC and looking for a late-night meal or one of the city's most iconic halal food experiences, Adel's Famous Halal Food is a must-try. Huge portions, bold flavors, and an authentic street-food vibe make it one of the best halal carts in Manhattan.

It wasn't the best quality frankfurter, but somehow it worked with my indiscriminate palette. Flash forward a century or so, and this is the only Gray's Papaya left in the city. Since I'm a survivor, I thought it only appropriate to take Jamie to the original flagship location and order what else but the Recession Special. Sure enough, they still offer it for $7.50. It was $1.95 when I was a child, but it's still a good deal consisting of 2 Hot Dogs (Photo 10) and a Medium Papaya Drink (Photo 9). The franks were the same as I recall, nothing special but if you add onions and pay an extra 75 cents for the chili, it just works. The papaya drink is not a fruit juice but a puree mixed with sugar and milk. It actually complements the dog in a guilty pleasure kind of way. There was a line but it moved fast.
