Every time I am in Boise I stop at the S. Apple Street location and order a sandwich and one of their hand crafted loafs of bread to take home. I've always had a great experience and appreciate that they offer organic choices. Their staff is always pleasant and courteous. The ambiance is pleasant but basic - it's fine for me. Came by here to try and get a few sandwiches before work this morning. The display case for sandwiches looked somewhat decrepit. Staff mentioned they were still making the sandwiches and they wouldn't be ready until around 11:30. This happened right after 11. In my opinion a place that's basically a bakery/sandwich shop should have their full array of sandwiches available sooner. But it's still only my opinion. However, I decided to try some of the lemon blueberry bread/loaf and a pumpkin chocolate chip muffin. The blueberries were dried out (over baked bread) and I provided a picture of my other item containing baked in hair. I'd already left the location before I saw this so I wasn't able to remedy the situation. Even if the hair wasn't present, the pumpkin spice flavor was ubiquitous and overpowering. With no other orders ahead of me, it took almost 15 minutes to get this paper thin, dry (no mayo) $9.99 BLT. It contained only one and a half slices of wafer thin bacon, I had to stretch to cover the bread!! My wife ordered half a chicken salad sandwich which was also very meager. We were looking for something quick and easy to start off our morning so we stopped in at Zeppole Cafe before running some errands. We got a 16oz Mexican Mocha, 16oz Vanilla Breve along with the blueberry lemon scone and the raspberry white chocolate scone. The barista was nice and patient as we tried to figure out what we wanted. The drinks and scones were delicious and fresh. The cafe itself has plenty of parking (it sits in a shopping center) and is spacious with a good selection of seating. If we lived near by, I could see this becoming one of my regular homework spots. read more

Loathe to write one star reviews, I usually just don't take the time to do it. I'm a 'glass half full' type but there are times when a counterpoint review is a little like a public service announcement for taking pause before visiting. Maybe if I'd noted one before coming here with out of town friends given positive Yelp reviews, we would have avoided the really poor experience. Here goes my bottom line humble Yelp opinion: you can do so much better for bakery items than Zeppole and as a dine in experience it is woeful. The only thing that saved the day was the friendly young woman behind the counter doing her best to represent the paltry product of pre-wrapped, pre-made sandwiches that were on soggy bread when unwrapped to eat and lukewarm soup that tasted as if out of a package. These were so bad that we didn't get as far as the cookies or sweets to comment on those. But in everything is connected mode, I noted on making a trip to the loo that one had to walk by trays of open, cooling cookies on a rolling cart right in the path of travel to the bathroom. Said facilities being out of TP and when the really nice young woman behind the counter was informed she apologized and made mention of same to a sort of sullen looking woman sitting at a corner table who with metaphorical dark cloud hanging over her head stomped in to fix the issue. IMHO both Gaston's, Acme and Wildflower all make superior bakery products to Zeppole and that was my view before coming to this store. Still, on occasion I'd buy one of the Zeppole parm breadsticks at the CoOp. But after coming in here, Zeppole is off my list for purchasing at all anywhere. I realize I may hold a minority view. I realize they may have been having a bad day on the day of my visit. But if so, what a bad day it was. THIS N THAT: 1) Parking: Big strip mall lot. 2) Accessibility: How it is 25 years after the ADA was passed that strip mall owners get parking and accessibility so wrong is a crime. Literally. Regardless, if someone in your group uses a wheelchair be advised the accessible parking is a mess. read more

We were really excited to try this place because we constantly buy their bread at our local market (their sourdough bread is fantastic by itself). However, the actual location is nothing special. The customer service was pretty bad. In fact, the people working seemed irritated with us because we were taking a little bit of time to look over the menu before we ordered a few items to go. Keep in mind, we were the only customers in line. Now to the food. The sandwich we had (roasted red pepper with feta cheese, olives, and spinach) was okay in terms of flavor, but overall, dry. We also bought a raspberry scone which wasn't anything special either. Not a whole lot of flavor. We still plan to buy their sourdough loaves at our local market when we need it, but won't go back into the actual bakery due to the poor service and the food quality. read more

The desserts are great and the grilled cheese sandwiches are heaven! The tomato soup is good, and a nice compliment to one of their signature grilled cheese yummies! The grilled cheese are pretty big, so come with a big appetite or, if you get the soup too, you have enough to share with a friend. The Boise has bacon on it, what more do you need? All their desserts and pastries are delish! You can sometimes buy a whole loaf of one of the specialty breads, if you come early in the week before they sell out. I got a gorgeous sourdough loaf, 3 hoagie type (ohhh they call them something else britti? Fritti? Lol) rolls and a yummy pastry and it was $10. They also serve beer and wine here, looks like they have sandwiches and etc. she pointed out the "day old " rack and informed me the bagels and scones are 25% off after 3. The Zeppole Village Loaf has been one of our favorites for sandwiches for years. But during a recent visit I noticed the scones looked like something that needed to be investigated. They had several types of scones (Raspberry White Chocolate, Lemon Blueberry, Cranberry Orange Walnut, Maple Walnut, Butterscotch Coconut) and a sign indicating they had made too many for the day and the price was about half off the regular $2.75 price due to making too many breakfast pastries for the day. Score! We ended up with three scones...Raspberry White Chocolate, Cranberry Orange Walnut, & Butterscotch Coconut. I think the Cranberry Orange Walnut had the edge, but all were great. They are just my style of scones...no thick icing (like Big City tends to do) and not too sweet. I was able to chat with James who works there and he recommended about 20 seconds in the microwave if you take them to go. The next day heated the leftovers in the microwave and they tasted even better than the previous day's unheated version. read more

Veg sandwich pretty good - they're all pre-made so probably earlier in the day is best. Tomato soup just ok. If you like a lot of cream, you will love it. Desserts, bagels, loaves of bread, sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. My order consisted of 1/2 turkey & provolone sandwich, pasta salad, a whole roast beef & cheddar, and a cup of tomato ravioli soup. I got all of this for only $13! Everything tastes very good and I highly recommend the pesto mayo as an addition to your sandwich. The reason that I am eating them a 3 is because I feel they could expand their service and make their lunch experience better. It would be nice if they made sandwiches upon order so that you could add and build as you like. Everything is currently made ahead of time in the morning and is plain and simple. If you request mayo they give you a container and a knife to add it yourself. They could also offer a soda fountain instead of just cans that you grab out of a fridge. My only other complaint is the way they package everything... I would prefer each sandwhich wrapped or in a to go container. I had worked at the main bakery for a day and watched them sell bread that had been dropped on the floor. Not sanitary no matter how hot the bread is. The owner was blatantly dishonest with me about employee wages and starting pay. Here's the deal - they have okay to almost Good sandwiches but definitely not what they used to be . The bread is way too firm and chewy instead of the soft village loaf they used before. Also the lettuce is gross . It's old it's wilted and Fresh . The counter people are usually friendly except for this one lady who works there - shes very hurried even if there isn't a line and overcharged me. She's off . I am a huge fan of scones.  In particular ones that are more like a biscuit.   Fortunately for me, those are exactly the style that Zeppole makes.  From the options available (Raspberry White Chocolate, Lemon Blueberry, Cranberry Orange Walnut, Maple Walnut, Butterscotch Coconut) we selected three.  We opted for the Raspberry White Chocolate, Cranberry Orange Walnut and the Butterscotch Coconut.  We ate half of them at room temp that afternoon.  Based upon staff recommendation, we warmed up the leftovers.  I definitely preferred the scones heated.  For me, the Cranberry Orange Walnut was the best.  However, they were all great.  It's awesome to have a bakery of Zeppole's caliber in our neighborhood! read more

I recently ordered a variety of pastries for my sister-in law's baby shower and I could not have been happier with how everything turned out. Not only did they cut the pastries into shareable sizes, allowing everyone to try a little bit of everything, they also packaged them so that they stayed incredibly fresh and moist. Huge hit and everyone was raving about them! I would also HIGHLY recommend their new cinnamon buns. They're the perfect consistency and the glaze has just the slightest hint of orange to it. I went to zeppole to buy 2 breakfast sandwiches. I really like the bread here, but these sandwiches were worse than any egg McMuffin you can imagine. The bread was extremely dry and the sausage and ham were chewy. The cheese was like eating plastic. There wasn't any butter or added flavor. Imagine a sandwich that was sent out with soldiers training in the desert......this is it. I even asked the server if there was going to be any sauce or other addition to the sandwich. She told me that she could give me a side of mustard. I said no thanks. We could only gag down half of each sandwich with lots of water. Luckily we were able to pawn them off on some co-workers who have no taste. I would recommend that the management look at Starbucks who make the most awesome breakfast sandwiches. read more

I go for the bread. The parmesan crusty type bread is great for soups or on the side of shrimp scampi. All the loafs of bread that I have gotten in the past have always been very fresh and tasty. We tryed some different types of pastry that were just ok. So my recommendation is the sourdough. It's always awesome as well. read more
