During my most recent visit I chose a breakfast sandwich and oh my goodnesss it was so dang good! I chose their High 5 Fiber bread, which I gotta say, is absolutely fantastic. Toasted, grilled, plain, whatever. This bread is for kings! Anyway, the sandwich had thick cuts of ham, slices of delicious, gooey cheese and moist, fluffy egg. All this for only $5! I've been a loyal customer to the Fairview (closest to Meridian) location for years. The manager has been wonderful but one person does not a place make. The last five trips were disappointing and the people who work there don't care. Either they make your order wrong, don't have what you came in for or cop and attitude. The last one I dealt with this evening rolled her eyes at me and said I would know if I did that. I came in for a salad and sandwich. To my surprise the grill was closed so no sandwich for my sick husband. Then she left off the chicken on my salad. Your customers are your pay check! I have loved Great Harvest since I first fell in love with bread. So like since two years old. ;) There is a store in the town where I grew up and one of the best parts of my childhood was going in to get a warm, tender piece of free bread slathered in so much sweet cream butter it would make your head swim. Besides the reduction in butter shellacking, not much has changed. I still love getting my free slice of bread. So do my kids. "Hungry", the almost 5 year old particularly likes it. We also love their soups, sandwiches and cookies. You can get a nice cup of drip coffee, tea or a fountain soda as well. My most recent purchase was for Easter. I ordered Bunny Bread, Challah, and Hot Cross Buns to deliver to family while we maintained our social distance. Sweet Great Harvest delivered the goods to my doorstep the day before Easter, then I delivered the carby goodness on Sunday. My quarantine roommates (small replicas of myself and my partner) enjoyed the Hot cross buns for our Easter brunch. The rolls were amazing. Yeasty, slightly sweet and peppered with raisins. I wasn't a huge fan of the frosting (lemon cream cheese), but then... I don't have a sweet tooth. The bottom line is this... Great Harvest is an incredible bakery, owned by members of our community, serving up all the yeasty calories you could ever want. read more

It seemingly doesn't matter what day of the week I choose to shop at the great harvest location on Fairview in Meridian, there typically are two people, working... One in the back, and one at the counter, and neither one of them can answer any question about the bread, the gift baskets, the sandwiches, the soup, etc. After seeing Valentine gift baskets posted online, I made a special trip to the shop because I wanted to make a choice between a $40 or $50 basket, and I wanted to see how it was presented and put together... Neither employee even knew that they had Valentine's Day baskets offered. I have been a Great Harvest customer for years, and their products are usually way above par. It is too bad that the employees seemingly don't understand customer service, are not enthusiastic about their job, and offer slow, mediocre service. read more

I guess there's new owners but the standard that was set is definitely not there now. All of the pumpkin ohs looked like pumpkin oh-nos... the bread is 1/4 of the size and the size of the roll itself is so much smaller. Wouldn't normally care if it was smaller, but the price went up. Went to the Meridian location today for lunch. Soda machine was broken, so we go a couple sodas in cans, they were not cold. Ordered a turkey avocado sandwich, was told that they were out of avocado. Service was good, but we will not be returning. Used to be a great place to eat. We were there at lunch time and nobody else was there. I was given a hot apple juice with a cup for ice and there was a big black bug in the ice. My friend got ice for water in a cup and that had another black bug in that and the water from the machine tasted and smelled HORRIBLE. They gave him a free cinnamon roll while we waiting even longer for food that never came. The manager and young girl working saw us ordering food, but NOTHING from them either. I finally went to the counter and spoke with the young girl about our food and she was totally oblivious and thought it was funny that the boy took our order and left. Update: I had to look for a ramp for accessibility and they have one!! It is located on the North side of the building. However, I did not see auto doors and the counter would pose a problem if you were in a wheel chair, it is a high top ordering counter. Honestly, you really can't go wrong. Grab a loaf of bread, a dessert, a gift, a sandwich... grab one of each! My go to sandwich is either the turkey avocado or the chipotle turkey. Both are guaranteed to make you full and satisfied. With a yelp check in, you get a free oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, it is amazing and you can smell the honey in it. Sandwiches take about 5-7 minutes to make so be patience. Enjoy a cup of water or just roam around and look at all their delectable goodies that are great for a foodie present. Sit indoors or outdoors both have wonderful, relaxed energy. Another great visit here. Last time I brought my daughter, and this time I brought my son. (Kids - if you do something or give something to one, you have to give or do for the other too.) We each got a free slice of the asiago sourdough, it was fresh, soft, and delicious. I'm not super crazy about sourdough bread, but this one had a milder flavor that I really enjoyed along with the soft real butter that was there to add to your slice. Some of the other options for the free sampling were lemon bar and red velvet cake cupcake (in addition to other breads). We each ordered a $5 breakfast sandwich on the same asiago sourdough, with ham, egg, and Swiss cheese. So good, so filling - they aren't cheap on ingredients when they make a sandwich. On a drive through Boise we needed car supplies and those include cookies. If your road trip doesn't have cookies, well, maybe you should re-evaluate. If you need cookies and baked goods and sandwiches and coffee and a grilled cheese for your kid, this is ze place! We pulled in and followed their Covid guidelines of masking and social distancing while we waited in line to order. Breakfast sammies, aforementioned grilled cheese and some snickerdoodles were rang up for me by helpful and kind staff members and I was on my way in no time. All the nosh was delicious and my toddler thought a grilled cheese for the road was genius. The place was filled with locals, special Christmas orders and the smells of cinnamon, vanilla, yeast and butter. If I had been really smart I would have got a cinnamon roll too! Came here yesterday to pick up some sandwiches and was a little turned off that when I place the order on line it was almost 40 mins for a sandwich? So after waiting I went into pick up my sandwiches and despite the place being not very busy the attentiveness from staff was lack luster at best. I walked up to the counter and watched as an employee literally was trying to scoop the absolute last remaining soup out of the bottom. Watching her literally try 4-5 times yielding no soup was frustrating because right on the counter where my sandwiches. In addition another employee just stood in the kitchen and even looked at me. So after a few minutes of agony I asked could I just grab my sandwiches and for the 1st time an employee said something to me..."No I will grab it in a second". This was still while the other employee in the kitchen stared at me. After finally getting home with almost $35 of sandwiches these were pretty disappointing. Very impressed by the customer service at Great Harvest Bread! We weren't familiar with this place and just wanted a snack. The young guy at red counter offered us sample of the breads and let us know it was happy hour, buy one get one free on the brownies, lemon bars, and bread pudding. We got one lemon bar and one bread pudding square to go. I just wanted a piece of toast, which isn't on the menu, but they sliced the sour dough bread, grilled it in the back and put butter on it for free! Can't beat free! We also picked up some dog treats as a gift. Lemon bar (3/5) texture was great, lemon flavor could have been stronger, TONS of messy powdered sugar! You have been warned. Bread pudding (4/5) much better warmed up but delicious and flavorful! Asiago sour dough (4/5) tiny crunch of cheese on top, made good toast and would make an excellent sandwich. They offer only fresh bread (made within 24 hours). After that they discount it by 50%. They also offer different specialty breads each day. I loved that they have a coupon for a free cookie if you check-in on Yelp, which I did, of course! And the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie was great! We ordered a Reuben Sandwich, a hot Ham and Cheese, and a Chop Salad. The Reuben was good but they don't list that their sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato, onion and lettuce. And I would've opted out, had I known. It also needed more meat. But the flavor was good. The Ham and Cheese had the same issues. I was for our 10 year old, the girl that took our order didn't mention it and it doesn't say on their board, and she hates all 'toppings' on a sandwich. It also could've used a bit more meat. Otherwise, it was good. The salad was great. Thought it odd that it came with Ranch dressing since there were Bleu Cheese Crumbles, but it was still very good. The staff was all polite. Our particular cashier was the least friendly, but she wasn't unpleasant. Just not as outgoing and happy as the others. We would go back. And we would definitely gain a few pounds from all the carbs. I went to get my weekly loaf of Dakota bread and noticed they have a baking schedule and not all breads are available everyday. I must have always lucked out on what days I stopped by before. The lady asked me what I was looking for and said I will go search for some for you and have it cut for you. To top it off they signed me up for some loyalty program so my loaf of bread was free. I have frequented this resturant for several years and have watch the quality deteriorate. Today, I ordered a Strawberry Chicken salad. When I opened the salad box I was dismayed and frustrated at the sparse, dare I say chincy amount of chicken. It was no more than one teaspoon of meat. This is not acceptable. My husband ordered a bowl of clam chowder soup with a roll and absolutely loved the soup. Only draw back...he wished sourdough bread was an option since it goes better with clam chowder. I think the reason it's taken me so long to venture back to this spot is that it's location is clear across town for me. Luckily, yesterday I was running some errands for work and just so happened to be in the neighborhood. It was about 2 pm and my hanger was starting to set it, so I did what any hangry person would do...I set out in search of a sammie. As soon as I realized my craving, the heavens split open and behold...Great Harvest Bread Co. I stopped in, ordered a cold sammie (the Baja Chipotle Turkey), checked-in on Yelp (and got a free cookie for it, hola!), and left with my on-the-go lunch in a matter of 8 minutes. Now it's not Jimmy John's fast, but for the quality of food, that is not an issue for me! I ordered a half sandwich and this was more than enough food (especially with that giant cookie I got for checking in). The sammie was yummy, veggies piled on and crisp, turkey was piled on generously, bread was fresh, and the condiments that came with it were tasty. I'd love to go back and try out a hot sammie when I have time to sit down and enjoy it on their little patio. Overall, great experience! My family wanted to try this place for a while and we finally did. I ordered the Cobb salad and as I was eating it, I felt something really off. I spit out a piece of wire. I told the employee and he was like, "Oh, that's what we tie our bread with." Yes, I get that but should it be in an order of food? He acted so nonchalantly about it as if it happens all the time or it's normal. I told him he should probably let the others know in the kitchen to be a bit more careful. Someone could poke a hole in their mouth, ruin a tooth, etc. I get it, we're human. Mistakes happen, but being a little more apologetic to customers or at least pretending you care goes a long way. read more

I grew up in Idaho Falls where they had a Great Harvest branch located. It was always such a treat for myself and my siblings to have my mom to take us there. What was my most favorite part? Why the free sample of course! You can choose from a couple different varieties of bread or a sweet treat like a cookie, scone, or muffin. So when I moved to Boise and discovered they had a branch here I was thrilled! Everything they bake is delicious and I'm worth trying. Some of my favs include the cinnamon burst bread and the sweet potato pecan loaf. And now I have the privilege of having my kids experience Great Harvest. They always beg to stop for a sample and can't get enough. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star rating is the hefty price tag on most of their items. I know it's homemade, but I just can't afford a $7 loaf of bread, no matter how yummy. However, the smell and free sample is worth a trip alone! read more

I cannot believe the previous review I read about the rueben sandwich. I just ate the damn thing and couldn't be more disappointed. There was literally ONE SLICE of pastrami. ONE EFFIN SLICE. Anyone who has ever eaten a rueben knows quite a bit better than this. I can't describe the anger over spending seven fifty on a "rye" bread sandwich comprised of onion and sauer kraut. While we're at it, I could use more sauer kraut, BUT ONLY IF THERE'S SOME PASTRAMI ON THERE. This experience flat out sucked. I am angry or hangry and I'm going to have a beer now. My wife really enjoys their hummus veggie, oddly enough, without the hummus. She can give them five stars when she gets a yelp account. For now, I'll never eat here again. Came here for a few loaves of bread--one to add to a gift basket I was putting together for a friend and a couple of others for home. I love Great Harvest Bread. We settled on their honey whole-wheat for the gift basket, which is a bread I'm quite familiar with and is always a good choice. For home, we got the asiago sourdough which I love. It's not a San Francisco quality sourdough, but given that's sort of contingent on salt air, which, Boise doesn't have--it's an awesome dense white bread with a great asiago flavor (the smell of that bread toasting! Omg! Amazing!!). We also got a loaf of their cinnamon burst bread, which my kiddo quite enjoys but I find just ok. Given a choice of their sweet bread offerings--I'd go for cranberry orange (they have it on Wednesdays). A few random notes: +They do get busy and sell out of some of their breads quickly. When I went in, I was hoping for a loaf of their Challah--but was told they were out and wouldn't have any more for a couple hours (bummer). +They have a bread rack which faces the entry--most of the breads are baked that day, but the breads on the very bottom two shelves are yesterdays baked goods and can be purchased at a discount. + They have a punch card--buy 10 loaves, get one free. + They always offer a sample slice to every customer--it's always fresh baked and amazing. I got the chicken on wheat and it got soggy really quick - I'm not a fan of sourdough and that's what they recommended, probably would have held up better had I not changed my bread BUT- the star of the day was the sweet potato pecan loaf-- go now, get 3 and freeze them.
