I went in to get my stone tightened on my sterling silver ring. The woman at the counter was extremely nice and welcoming. My ring came out great. Only problem was that there were tiny onyx stones that were scratched during the polishing of the silver but it's not the end of the world. The selection inside the store is really cool. There are some interesting necklaces and I saw a beautiful sapphire stone set in a ring that was amazing to see. I would recommend this place for sure. read more

I went into the store with 2 pieces of jewelry I'm interested in having repaired. The man who "helped" me looked at the first one and said, with a snarky attitude, "you'd be better off just replacing this than trying to fix it." Um...I got the bracelet in Santa Fe, so unless he wants to buy me a plane ticket, I'm pretty sure fixing the item is going to be significantly less expensive than replacing it. He said he would ask their jewelry person who re-strings bracelets whether or not she could do it. The other piece he referred to as "cheap." He said it would require soldering and the material wouldn't hold. So maybe just say it can't be fixed rather than refer to the piece as "cheap"? When I asked if there was anything else that could be done with the main piece, which is a disc of metal with fused glass in it, he said no, the materials were too cheaply made. Wow. So my two pieces of jewelry weren't worth fixing, in his opinion, which is fine. But maybe be polite about it? Rather than rude and judgmental? Our conversation was within listening distance of the person I heard referred to as Josh, who did not step in to help or offer suggestions. I believe he is the owner? In any case, I will never return to this shop unless it's to pick up the bracelet that was deemed not worth the price of having it fixed. I love Half Moon Bay. I live here. I prefer to shop small businesses. Interestingly, I took the "cheap" piece to Maaz, a jewelry store in Hillsdale mall, and was helped by a woman who was polite, respectful, and helpful. She did not say there was nothing they could do. In fact, she said if they couldn't repair the piece as a bracelet, they could certainly turn it into a pendant I could wear on a necklace. I don't mind someone being honest about what they can and can't do when it comes to a repair job. I object when it is delivered as judgment and criticism. Goldworks has lost my business forever. Which likely won't hurt their bottom line in any way--they've clearly been around a long time. Not everyone cares about customer service and basic kindness. read more

The owner(s) worked closely with me to accomplish all of my goals and that was to restore my mother's jewelry to it's original state (she passed away) so I can pass them on to my daughter. The multiple diamond ring is exceptional as is the coral ring. He also has worked on my various projects ;all at an 'affordable' price for us. I also purchased a beautiful necklace there which is designed by them for my Valentine present. It represents the area we live in and contains an aquamarine stone. I have used Goldworks twice over the past year and Josh is fantastic to work with for big or small jobs. I live in Half Moon Bay and needed to get my fiancee's engagement ring sized. I figured it was worth a shot to try a local vendor instead of mailing it away or hunting for somewhere else. We went back and forth with designs to get it right, came in to see the wax mold to approve it and then for the final fitting. I love that it's a local, family business, and they're a staple to HMB. They have their own signature designs with waves and moons, diamond engagement rings, estate jewelry, and all kinds of sparkly goodness. I was also told that they also do great quality work on custom pieces which intrigued me. I came in to see if they could make a custom 18k yellow gold ring for me, and I brought in my reference image. The 3D renderings I later received were impressive, and he was more than willing to make any adjustments I wanted before moving to the next stage. I can't wait to see it once it's complete!! Given my weakness for antiques, we headed right in to check them out Nice selection overall & I liked their modern offerings almost as much as their estate - which for me is saying something! Adorable little swan pendant from the 50-60s caught my eye & it was incredibly sweet - unfortunately it was also about double the price I was willing to pay so we had to say our farewells I didn't get into their specific pricing ( if they were open to negotiation ) especially as no shop has ever been willing to go down 50% & I wasn't willing to consider anything higher - so would have been pointless to even broach the subject.... so can't comment there But if you're looking for unique pieces that sparkle, you'll find much to behold here at Goldworks read more

Although we only recently moved to the coast, we've been visiting Goldworks for years. The former owner, Jay, helped design and made my wife's wedding band from gems removed from her mother's ring. Jay was always very professional, friendly, and courteous. Unfortunately, our recent experience at Goldworks was a stark contrast to this. In mid-October, we visited the store to purchase one of their signature pieces as a birthday present for my wife. We've been admiring the piece, a pendant, for years and decided now was the time to purchase it. Kevin spent time with us as mocking-up the piece with different gemstones. We selected, and were very specific, about wanting a deep colored sapphire like the one he had shown us added to the pendant. We ordered the piece, then waited 6 weeks for its delivery. Sadly, last week, when the piece arrived, it wasn't what we had ordered. We were very disappointed. The color of the sapphire was much less intense than the mock-up we chose. What was most disconcerting was the rude, unprofessional manner that we were treated by the owner, Josh, and his brother, Kevin. Josh was more concerned about defending the quality of the piece than acknowledging it wasn't what we ordered. We requested that they substitute the stone with one like we were shown, however he was unwilling to work with us. He kept insisting that "he had to wrap his head around the whole thing" and that he was just too busy to even consider our interests or satisfaction until after the holidays. Then Kevin loudly accused us of having poor memories regarding the mock-up he had shown us. All in all, it was a terrible experience, to the extent that I have not encountered in decades. What could have been a satisfied customer with a cherished birthday gift transpired into a miserable experience with a discourteous and unprofessional merchant. Hopefully, someday, Josh and Kevin will develop their father's professionalism, demeanor, and customer-focused approach. Until then, we won't return nor will we be recommending Goldworks any longer. read more

I recently had a gold band resized downwards and am very pleased both with the quality of the work and the price. I will certainly be bringing my trade back to them in the future. While dropping off and picking up the ring I took the opportunity to peruse their shop and I'm very impressed with the range of the jewelery they have on display. Bate and switch. I bought a "pendant" which is a piece of jewelry that hangs from a chain around the neck. At the time of purchase (not cheap and only one price tag on the necklace) they took the gold piece off the chain and said I had to buy the chain separately. Who does that? So what I bought was an expensive charm. My daughter was with me and he saw a silver necklace and wanted to buy it because some proceed are to go to the local school music program, however they we out of stock and said they has to special order. I confronted them and asked if "that necklace comes with a chain" and he said yes he would give us one. Cure enough, when my daughter went to pick up her necklace 3 weeks later - No Chain. I was VERY particular and Josh was extremely patient and took all my questions and desires for the ring in stride. In order to achieve the kind of setting I wanted, the diamonds in the halo had to be a bit bigger than anticipated. Josh upgraded our diamonds without adding to the original quote because he prioritized creating the most beautiful ring he could for us over getting as much money as he could for the piece. Not only is Josh so personable and pleasant to work with, he is a truly skilled gemologist. Together, he and my husband picked out the absolute perfect 1.5 karat stone with remarkable clarity. My husband even mentioned to Josh that I wanted a ring with a unique vintage feel, and Josh showed him a few designs and band sizes and they created an unbelievable ring with tiny little diamonds along the setting. Women literally stop me in the street, at coffee shops, even at the grocery store, and ask to look at my ring. Unlike his family who operated the store successfully for 26 years based on the concept that pleasing the customer, honesty and value we're what they consistently delivered . . . Josh believes that' it all about his making money. He even stated he wasn't going to run the store the way his parents did. @&* me once shame on him . . . I asked him to make me a simple solid gold bangle. I offered him $1200 for the job. He said he'd have done it for $900 but would take the $1200. When it was done he told me that his estimate (written) had been wrong, too low. He wanted to charge me $1800 because he didn't calculate the costs correctly. Unless I'm mistaken you're apposed to get customer authorization if you are going to exceed your estimate. He had me over a barrel since it was for a time sensitive gift occasion. When I complained about the cost increase he became rude, abusive and profane. Telling me, among other things, that if I couldn't afford it to shop somewhere else. He's right, this is not the way his family ran the store. They retired respected and appreciated by all. I don't think is lack of interest in customer's rights will see him lasting the 26 years like his family. read more

I waited to post this since I wanted to give the store an opportunity to fix the customer service problem first. Mistakes are sometimes made. I attempted to discuss the issue of customer service and training and the owner of the store was unwilling to admit any error even with my need to spend $200 at Darren Mcclung in Palo Alto to repair the ring after he ruined my wedding ring by not doing what I had instructed him to do. Despite degrees in the industry Main Street Goldworks is a small town hack store without knowledge of proper care and maintenance of high end jewelry . Go over the hill for quality and knowledge unless you own cheep mass produced garbage. Here is what happened. I took my Alex Sepkus ring to have the diamonds cleaned for a party. As I dropped the ring I reviewed the receipt saying that the ring would be buffed and polished. I spoke with a sales person and said that since my ring had patina I did not want it buffed or polished just the stones cleaned. The condescending sales person said "Josh(the owner) knows what he is doing." I returned to find the ring completely shiny after her did the opposite of what I asked, thus ruining it. Don't take anything here that is valuable or antique as they will not be responsible for damages and do not value their customers pieces. read more
