Because my parents don't think eating raw fish is a good idea right now (honestly they're probably right), we only ordered cooked food. We got the Pizza Roll, Dynamite Roll, Deluxe Shrimp Tempura Roll, Tofu Yakisoba, and Calamari. Rolls were definitely high quality and the food was delicious, and I especially liked the Pizza Roll, which is a unique baked sushi roll topped with spicy scallop. So, I saw the reviews and thought I'd try this place and honestly I was quite disappointed. (This is a takeout order, I went in, ordered inside and waited for the food) The nigiri + sashimi pieces from the chirashi were WARM. That is never a good sign for sushi. Next the tuna sashimi actually smelled very fishy which means it was past its freshness date, the rest of the fish pieces (salmon, hamachi, albacore) were tasteless. Even the rice was bad and it's difficult to mess up steamed white rice. I ordered ikura nigiri and the salmon roe was brown, not orange like they naturally are...but brown. The wasabi wasn't spicy either, so it might've been mixed with something else or just past its expiration date. I do have to say I've a high standard for what I consider 'sushi' and honestly this was below average. I'd enjoy $13 wholefoods sushi much more and would not have felt apprehension to finish the order. The chirashi came with miso soup which honestly just felt like it had been reheated from the day before because the wakame in it was not green but closer to overcooked. And tbh the miso taste was quite faint. I also ordered a small saporo beer to go which was great! Didn't finish eating bc it was just not appetizing, so for $75 + tip it's not worth it. read more

What made me disappointed is that Goleta is right near the ocean, And this place the salmon & yellow tail sashimi was literally still frozen. Theres prob a total of 20ish rolls that they had (maybe less). They ran out of salmon skin which was fine. The rolls I ordered weren't awful but they weren't anything special. Our waitress was not attentive at all but the older lady bringing out the dishes was super nice. The calamari came out last even though it was an appetizer. It seemed like it was rush because it was Gooooey like they didnt fry it long enough? I only ate two bites of it in fear of getting food poisoning. Service: 5 stars- everyone here is so friendly and accommodating. I will continue to give places like this my business when they are so friendly; eating here I felt at home. The sushi chefs greet you as you enter and leave in polite fashion. But the real stars here are the waitresses. Sooooo friendly and sweet! When they call you "honey or dear" it makes you feel good. Glad to give them my business. Sushi: 4 stars- being a sushi expert by this point id say this place delivers no thrills fresh sushi. The rolls are overall basic but tasty. I opted for the golden cali roll ( which I love because they put smelt roe on it) and the spicy scallop roll was great, really liked the spicy pink sauce. Overall it's the kind of place you come to get full for $20 and know it's a decent meal, again nothing overly special or any particular roll that was new. My personal favorites are the Sushi House Roll with it's large portion and slight crunch and the Rainbow Roll which looks aesthetically pleasing and tastes delicious. Prices are fair and the order came in quickly. Water and tea came out right away. Appetizers like the chicken gyoza came out FAST! It has the right amount of salt and flavor plus it comes with a mild oily chili sauce. Don't let the exterior for you. This place was delicious in every way. It's sketchy from the outside and even the interior decor is pretty muted and something you would think would have a horrible health rating. But fear not!. As you get seated, you can see some of the charm inside come out. Little trinkets on shelves that make the place feel more like home than some gussied up trendy place. We got there early at 5:30, which was good because the place filled up pretty quickly. We started with some potstickers, sashimi and seaweed salad, followed by six different kind of sushi and teriyaki chicken that we shared with the entire table of 4. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had to ask for bowls for soy sauce and some wasabi, and service was slow as ever once we were eating, but it didn't matter as the food made up for it. Fresh to the nines and plates came out beautifully. Also, try the sushi pizza (can't remember its exact name) but it's on the menu and whooooa the flavors are spectacular. First time here and I was pleased with the atmosphere. This place is very quaint and clean inside. I never knew this place existed until a friend of mine told me. I had the teriyaki beef bento box. It was pretty good but my pet peeve when ordering beef is getting chewy pieces of meat and that's just what I got! Not all of it was chewy but still it's always a disappointment when you expect a tender cut of meat. I will stick with chicken next time! Miso soup was a little too salty for my taste but I did like how it had a spicy kick to it. My friend ordered the pizza roll yes I said pizza roll. It was delicious!! Don't expect pepperoni and cheese. This is baked with salmon on top and shrimp rolled inside with a delicious sauce drizzled on top! It has a slight crunch to it and melts in your mouth. I'm always torn about coming to this place mainly because of the Vietnamese lady that owns this place. I tend to like coming here for lunch because of the 13.95 Chirashi Sushi (16.95 for dinner). The lady is very very friendly and always talks to the customers - which is nice, but I typically tend to be the type of person who likes privacy, especially when I'm with a close friend and we're catching up. After finals this one time, the lady got mad at me and stated how she hasn't seen me in a while. I told her that I have just been busy with finals and she shook her head. Sad to say, my cup of ice water was neglected and completely empty most of the time. So I like coming here for the quality and price of the food. This is probably one of the worst places I have ever been to. This restaurant is owned by Vietnamese people. I 've never been to a Japanese restaurant owned by Vietnamese people. It caught my attention. Upon ordering, the waitress came with a Miso Soup, which was part of the Sashimi Combo. When I looked down the soup, there was a COCKROACH floating inside the soup. I was hoping this place would be okay, but after seeing this soup with a cockroach, i was ready to walk out. I told the waitress about this, and she felt very sorry that the soup had this. I felt bad, so I decided to stay since I had already ordered the food. The Nigiri, are probably one of the largest portions I have ever had. It tasted okay, but just way too much rice. Overall, my experience of this place was horrible. After having a rodent floating in my Soup, everything else feels dirty. My friend and I got there a hour and a half before close and we're treated like they were closing in the next 15 minutes.. constantly being asked to order within our first 5min of sitting down and had the check brought to us multiple times before we had finished. If you're craving sushi I totally recommend the Goleta Sushi House. There were enough rolls for a cheaper price than your average Santa Barbara sushi place. My favorite roll was the Deluxe Tempura Shrimp Roll! The tartness of the roll made the taste so much better and the chipotle and eel sauce were a perfect addition to dip my rolls in! The Banana roll was also so yummy, the avocado--coated with eel sauce-- on top was light and fresh! The California Roll was a classic and definitely did not disappoint! I have to update my review after my last visit here. My friends and I wandered in for dinner, knowing Goleta Sushi House wouldn't let us down. We were seated after a few minutes and as we perused the menu, I was suddenly hit by a coughing attack from a cold I had last month. After our orders were taken, the owner personally came to our table to give me some cough drops and hot lemon tea. "Drink this, you will feel better quickly!" she said with a smile. The food came out shortly after and it was delicious as usual - rolls were stuffed with fresh fish and presented beautifully. The owner checked on our table a couple times, even asking me if I'd like a refill of the tea (which really did help my cough!).
