    Baked empanadas
    Tyson M.

I wanted to try some empanadas from a different place. These are made to order rather than just reheated like other places. The fillings are very generous. I prefer the baked version and would recommend these if you are in the area. The bacon egg and cheese and cuban were fantastic. I saved a few other flavors to try later.

Came one morning after running an errand in this plaza. I had a discount certificate from a website that the still has them listed but apparently they don't work with anymore. Gonzo and his wife Laura were accommodating and still honored the certificate as they didn't want me to leave without getting some empanadas. They are lovely people and we had great conversations about food and kids while I waited for my empanadas to be made. They have a monthly flavor that changes as well as a large selections that can be baked or fried there or taken home frozen to prepare yourself when ready. There is also a smaller selection of ready made to go options but they are definitely more basic. They have coffee and various other beverages to grab and go along with other food items. The empanadas are a very nice size and filled well. They offer different sauces as well to compliment the empanadas. I got a half dozen and they were all tasty in their own right. My favorites were the chicken parm and Korean BBQ Chicken.

If you haven't been to Gonzo's Empanadas...well, what're you waiting for?! With over 30 flavors of empanadas, you'll be sure to find something you'll love! From the classic flavors of beef, chicken, ham/cheese to special flavors such as margherita, Korean bbq chicken, chicken spinach and Alfredo, buffalo chicken, the list just goes on and on! I ordered the margherita which was so tasty and loved that the cheese was super melty! I also ordered the special, which was the cordon blue, and wow, the flavor was so tasty! We also got the 2 empanadas with a drink and side combo where you'd choose any 2 flavor empanadas, any drink and any side! It was a great deal for $9! Also, not only do they have savory empanadas, they also have sweet ones! I had the guava and cream cheese empanada and it was so good, true south Florida flavors! Not only do they just offer empanadas (savory and sweet), but they have soups, salads, pizzas, paninis and breakfast. So many great options for breakfast, lunch and dinner! The space is brightly painted, well kept and clean! Definitely can't wait to go back! Go check them out and support local!!

My boyfriend's roommate had randomly ordered from here one day and sung the place high praises. Consequently, one day talking to Sean M., I mentioned wanting to try this place and he beat me to going to it. He also heavily enjoyed this place. As a result, I got more and more interested in trying it, and well, the day finally came when I did. Turns out I went on a Saturday near lunchtime. I opted to order there as I had several questions, it being my first time there and all. It looks like the pepperoni and macaroni and cheese empanadas weren't very popular, so those are no longer made. That and I learned that the classic flavors are usually on display. You know, your beef, chicken, spinach flavors. The more unknown and creative flavors are made to order. They usually take fifteen minutes or so to bake, so it may be in your best interest to call and order beforehand. Laura attended me and she was very sweet. She had patience with me and my huge order. I had originally gone with the intention of ordering eight empanadas, but given a special they're currently running, it's cheaper to get a dozen. Or at the very least it made more sense. The difference was $3. That said, I ordered many empanadas. To be specific, I ordered: -2 Chicken Spinach Alfredo -1 Margarita -1 Chicken Parmesan -1 Korean BBQ Chicken -1 Chorizo & Cheese -1 Meat Lovers -1 Broccoli & Cheese -1 Curry Chicken -1 Mojo Pulled Pork -1 BBQ Pulled Pork -1 Creamy Mushroom Steak All those empanadas came out to three per person as there were four of us. What was even better was that they happily separated the empanadas per person, even labeling the names of each individual. They really went out of their way to make sure we were pleased. To top it off, while I waited, I ordered a large cappuccino and that coffee was sheer perfection with three spoons of sugar. Honestly, I was very impressed, and even then, I don't feel that covers it. Each and every empanada was made and packed with care. I also feel that this is a place for everyone. While one empanada might not tickle your fancy, another one definitely will. There is just so much variety. Of all the ones I tried, I loved the broccoli and cheese one best. It felt like eating a broccoli and cheese soup in a bread bowl. The Korean BBQ chicken and the curry chicken followed soon after. I will definitely return and recommend Gonzo's Empanadas to all my friends. This place quite easily is five stars. I wish them much success in these trying times. Laura, Gonzo's wife, was telling me that they haven't even been open a year, and well, I want them to reach that milestone and many more. Truly a cute little place with big heart and amazing food.

    Tuna Melt, potato bacon soup

The empanada was great and the homemade hot sauce is perfectly flavored! Hot enough for a kick but the flavor! They make it from scratch! The tuna melt was one of the best I've ever had! Filled with flavor, crispy, and satisfying. Great atmosphere as well. And great service!

As the place was empty and two women working were talking at the bar I walked in and went to sit. One of the women asked if I was with the group and then told me I needed to wait to be seated. It was awkward. It was a bit rude. Most times it's not what you say, but how you say it. Maybe it's just me, but the waitress immediately informed me that three items weren't available, including biscuits and cornbread of some sort. As a first-timer, it was weird. Fortunately, everything got better from there. My first meal, regardless of time, needs to be breakfast-y. As I perused the weekday brunch menu via QR code (what if you don't have a phone?) I ordered a coffee and water. The water came quickly, but the coffee took its time. I ordered the Wafflette (don't you want to try things you can't get other places?) It came as pictured and was good. The syrup was quite watery and left a lot to be desired, but I really didn't need it. The star of this dish is the bacon. I could have bathed in this bacon. It was thick and chewy, such a nice compliment. I don't know if there are bar stools available and whether they set up center aisle seating when it's more crowded, but the restaurant appeared clean and well-kept. There were no rounds available when I went, so I don't know how they accommodate groups of 10+, I sat along the banquette that could accommodate two. I am very interested in returning to try the ox tails, which are available in two (or was it three) dishes on the menu. I look forward to revising my review then.

The reception staff seated us quickly, and our waitress wasted no time bringing drinks and our appetizer. We started with the creamy spinach and chips, rich, flavorful, and with just enough kick to keep you dipping long after you're full. Definitely a must-try. For the main course, we had the Southern fried chicken with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The chicken was freshly fried and bursting with flavor. The green beans looked like they might have come from a can, but somehow they were super soft and still delicious. The shrimp pasta Alfredo, however, could've used a little more zing, it was good, just a bit shy on personality. We washed everything down with the $3 Bud Light special and a house margarita. The margarita did show up with a sugar rim instead of the salt we asked for... and our server didn't offer to swap it out. Oh well we survived . Overall, the food is what makes this place shine, and it's good enough to bring us back again. Next time we'll just double-check the salt.

There were mosquitoes it was dusk. I wasn't too happy plus it was windy, but anyhow, I ordered a Scooby and I asked her was it the Scooby like the ones that they serve in coconuts in Fort Lauderdale it is like oh yeah it's the same chef that worked there but they serve it a little different well when her Scooby's came they were the size of my pinky and it was seven of them and it was $27 very overpriced. I also ordered fish and chips which she said was extremely popular, it was so greasy that I asked for some paper napkins and she brought me two paper napkins, and I put one of the pieces on top of the paper napkin and it was soaked, so I asked her for more paper napkins and she brought me some more paper napkins and then I just got grossed out. It was too much grease. I ordered a glass of wine their house wine. And my total bill for one person was $67. They never asked me if everything was OK so I just paid the bill paid the tip and left. I wouldn't recommend that place to anybody.

The Spread: We ordered the brisket, smoked chicken, spare ribs, and baby back ribs -- yes, all four -- on one tray lined with butcher paper. It looked like a BBQ fever dream and tasted even better than it looked. The Meats: The brisket was the standout for me. Smoked over real wood for 12+ hours, hand-carved, pink smoke ring, tender all the way through. The baby back ribs were glazed and meaty with deep smoky flavor, and the spare ribs were thick, juicy, and packed with bold bark. The smoked chicken rounded it all out -- moist, flavorful, never dry. The Sides: Rice and peas with coconut milk -- fragrant and perfectly cooked. The 4-cheese mac was outrageously creamy (I kept going back for more). The sweet and tangy coleslaw was the perfect palate cleanser between bites of rich, smoky meat. The Extras: The 4-pack of sliders was a great add -- soft buns, well-seasoned patties, could easily make a meal on their own. The fries were golden and crispy. And the watermelon lemonade Kool-Aid with berries at the bottom? Refreshing, unique, and the perfect closer to an incredible meal. The Space: Big news for fans of Bare Bones -- they've just opened a brand new storefront next door with about a dozen additional tables and plenty of seating for the whole family. No more eating in your car or rushing home with takeout. You can now sit back, relax, and enjoy that tray of smoked goodness the way it was meant to be experienced. It's a welcome upgrade that somehow makes the food taste even better. This is a family-run operation with over 20 years of food experience and it shows in every detail.
