What we ate: My husband had the California Benedict, I got the Santa Fe Scramble, and the kids ordered from the kids' menu (pancake with hard-boiled eggs, and a classic egg scramble with bacon, hash browns, and toast). Kid pancake came with scramble eggs but they acomódate my youngest request and he got hard boiled egg instead. 2. Drinks: Peach smoothie, white mocha, and regular drip coffee. They also have a full coffee bar on-site. Vibe & Tip: The decor is rustic and charmingly local, featuring indigenous artwork, antler light fixtures, and comfortable wooden chairs. We wandered in here for lunch on a rainy weekday. Tried the salmon fish and chips. The fish was dry and overcooked. The chowder was nothing special. The worst part was that the restaurant was so dark I saw someone using their phone to light up the book they were reading. Service wasn't bad, but maybe going here for breakfast is a better idea. Great place for breakfast in Crescent city! They are open for lunch and dinner, we only went there for breakfast two mornings. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere and great breakfast!! We've been going to this restaurant for years but went yesterday. I don't know if there's a new owner or what but the food was just awful. I took one bite and couldn't eat anymore. I had the eggs Benedict. I asked for crunchy hashbrowns just the top layer was a tiny bit crunchy. The rest was raw. My friend and I came Tuesday evening around 7:30 pm and it was surprisingly crowded for a weekday night. We opted to sit upstairs for the slightly better view. The menu is is clearly separated into breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is served until 11:15 am (noon on Sundays), lunch is until 3 pm, and dinner is served 3 pm to close. Neither of us were super hungry as we had a big lunch earlier, so we were looking for something light. I got a cup of clam chowder for $7, and my friend got a cup of vegetarian chili for $7. Both were good. The clam chowder was thick and creamy and tasted great. My friend really enjoyed his vegetarian chili as well, especially with the garlic bread on the side. Service was a bit slow. We have eaten there twice in recent times and they updated their clam chowder and it's now really good! I have had fish and chips with salmon and a salad with blue cheese and my boyfriend had the burger. Seriously good eats. Sit in the bar area if you are looking for a view. It's gorgeous up there. The salmon was grilled nicely, though it was pretty light on seasoning, which actually worked out perfectly since we were dining with a young child. The clam chowder was warm and satisfying. This was a rather surreal experience. Sure, it was a Thursday night, 7:30 or so. But the parking lot was empty. Bomb cyclone? It has been raining a lot, but I seriously wondered if they were really open as I approached the door. The restaurant was empty. I was literally the only customer. Hostess at the empty main floor asked if I wanted to go upstairs. The main floor was completely empty. I went upstairs. It was completely empty as well. Needless to say, the service was very attentive. Ordered a salad, steak, baked potato along with a martini. No, it isn't an a la cart menus, I just asked for them to leave the sautéed veggies off. The salad was fresh and mostly spinach. Balsamic vinaigrette was on the side. I'm not usually much of a ribeye fan. But they cooked this steak perfectly. Had a crab manhattan sandwich and expected so much. Extremely disappointed, had several bites with shells, the sandwich was drowning in cheese and grease. I got about two nickel sized pieces of crab and the rest must have disappeared into the ingredients because I couldn't taste it or see any crab at all. Expensive sandwich, not even worth half of what I paid. My guest also had the same sandwich and said it was only okay and she also picked shells out or swallowed them! Waste of money and time. I would have liked to order the Kabob plate $32 which it states that it includes soup/salad and then potato options, but I was informed that only applied to the Ribeye Steak even though two more choices were listed below that heading. I asked if my side could be the baked potato, I would pass on the soup/salad option and that was not an option I would have to pay $6 for the baked potato. The menu is misleading, the server shrugged and said there wasn't anything she could do. I ended up going with the NY Burger $20 with a cup of chowder but I was irritated at that point so my dining experience suffered. The art was beautiful and the decor is nice, sadly, the service and food is always what brings people back. We went for a late lunch and ordered mostly clam chowder and a few other things. The food was fine but the fish and chips, quesadillas, and fried oysters came out a bit before the chowder. Finally the server came out with 2 of our 5 bowls and says that's all that's left. We say fine, can you split it up so we can all have some and they do. When the bill comes; they charged us an extra $15 for the cups, and because we didn't have enough food we added fish and chips and they charged extra for the fish and chips because of the time. So $18 extra because they ran out of food. We questioned it, they adjusted the chowder but added on $6 for bread and we didn't see the other until later. If we would've known they were out of chowder earlier we could've adjusted our order instead of eating in shifts. Not impressed at all. We've been a few times before but will not be back. She had a bad attitude, she was rude, she was put out to provide good service to a paying customer. She justified $30 by saying the cake was from Cheese Cake Factory. I recognize good labor is hard to find on the coast. (I'm certain I've seen this same chocolate cake and cheese cake for sale at our local Grocery Outlet...about $30) I'm sorry for the restaurant that this is the best employee they could find. When my husband came out ... he was p.o.'ed. Then he told me the cake was a few dollars short of our breakfast price and $30 was charged to my card. I FLIPPED A GASKET AND WAS EVEN MORE P.O.'ed. We are locals and we feel SO RIPPED OFF AND TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! My husband thinks he was hustled and gouged and overcharged BECAUSE HE WAS! Unfortunately, I don't think we'll return. They had psychedelic music on in the background and I felt like I was back in the 60s The waitress was very, very nice the little skinny one I don't know how old she was, but she was very young and she was the nicest waitress there.
