Saddens me to see so many less than 5 star reviews. This was my first time here. I went on the suggestion of a long time resident of this area. He said his grandmother owned a restaurant here or close by that was wiped out by the 1964 tsunami. My late lunch experience was delightful. I was greeted by the front counter staff. They handed me a menu. A sign of a good restaurant is difficult decision making. It took me a little while to decide on the shrimp salad. I asked for outside dining if possible. Just order to go and then I had my choice of picnic tables around the restaurant. I chose the south side so I could watch the surfers. While waiting the 10 minutes for my food buzzer to go off, I took pictures of the barking harbor seals, the restaurant and the beach activity. It was a sunny day. The food was to die for. A bit on the pricey side but that is to be expected for this location. No problem paying. read more

A classic tourist trap restaurant, avoid. Place was very crowded upon entry with a 45 min queue. Menu prices are extremely elevated for lackluster food. We ordered fried oysters , fish and chips, seafood pasta, and calamari. Soup and coleslaw were our sides. Chowder was lacking flavor and watery, definitely not worth ordering. Oysters were disgusting, they had a fishy mushy taste and you could tell they were NOT fresh catch despite being a harbor front restaurant. The fries were average, no comment. Seafood pasta was of poor quality also. The crab was overcooked and stringy/ chewy. Linguine noodles were bland also, very watered down and did not have the advertised beurre blanc sauce flavor. The asparagus accompany was also only 3 sticks and wasn't even grilled properly, an insult for a $40 pasta. Servers were also inattentive and had to be flagged down for requests. First off, I got my food to go so I can't speak on all of the normal stuff. The service seemed a little slow and not because of the staff but because of their POS setup. They have one POS and several servers trying to do counter checkouts, I was shocked I was able to pay with a card and wasn't expected to use the ATM in the corner. That said, the place looked clean and they have got an unbeatable location. As for what I ordered, the chowder, it was definitely worth the visit. I'd give it a 3.7/4! We stayed nearby for the Redwood attractions. Upon checking in we were told it was a 20 minute wait but this place appeared to be popular so we waited 40+ minutes. Though service was very good, fast, friendly but the food was just ok, most certainly not worth the hype. Chowder was ok, a little bland, shrimp tacos were good but I wouldn't order them again. Why are they serving clam chowder with nothing in it? The server admitted to bringing it out even though there wasn't anything in it. Said they'd bring more if a new batch came out. Well we didn't get a new bowl and paid $8 for each cup of chowder without a potato or clam in site. The food was hot, that's the best I can say, but it was bland and expensive for what it is. We left really disappointed unfortunately. read more

Lunch with a view! Easy parking. And seals all around! We got a table near a window and got to watch them play and lay on the docks! Service was quick and very friendly. This restaurant is really cool and has a beach type feel. It is right on the water and you if you are lucky enough to have a window seat you can see a seal. My girlfriend and I were in California from New York and the hotel receptionist tipped us off about this place; what luck! We went there on a Wednesday night just before they close and it was packed with a pretty long wait but, it was definitely worth it. The fish and chips was excellent. Best fish and chips I've ever had and probably ever will have. My girlfriend got the shrimp and chips which was also great. Awesome place to eat if you are in Crescent City. read more

We want fish since we were at the coast, right? And I didn't want my meal in a plastic basket so we ended up here. Not too long a wait to sit down. Service was quick even tho they were packed. I got the crab Louie salad and a cup of chowder. The salad was mostly large leaves (why don't they chop it up so we can eat it easily?) with some egg and other toppings. The crab was ok but not a lot. The chowder was thick like paste...I ate it but was only ok. My friend got the crab grilled cheese sandwich and only ate half it was so bad. The fish was fresh & wonderful battered all tasted great, the coleslaw was excellent. Fries were crispy , tasty & well seasoned. My wife's Lasagna looked delicious. It was worth the wait for a Sunday lunch service was we were sat on the bar due to the long wait. Our glass was never empty. All hands on deck staff was awesome working under pressure. In town for the night and looking for a good meal. I found the Chart Room, loved the location which is close to the water. (Bonus...Sea Lions) Server was alright, not to friendly. I loved my view of Sea Lions while eating. I had the Clam Chowder, which wasn't that great. I also had a BLT which came with fries. I feel like it was overpriced. Overall I didn't really feel welcome and didn't enjoy my meal. I won't be back. read more

They offered us a window seat and upon reaching the table discovered we were being sat at the same table as a couple, just a chair in between us. Many tables are for 6 people. The food was so overpriced and even simple fast food places like in n out could beat this‍ ‍ This place tastes very mid and the food quality is exceptionally bad. Was unsatisfied with the service considering how the workers were treating my group. Atmosphere was fine and theres a nice view, but I am still dissatisfied. Including the unexpected 3% tax fee for paying with credit card? Straight nonsense! Very unreasonable to charge money for, especially for food that doesnt deserve it. I am not saying that all the workers were terrible, but they definitely should consider having more manners while talking to customers. Shared an amazing fish and chips meal after a day hiking among the redwoods. Had a 15 minute wait for our table, and were seated at the end of a long 8-top with another couple. It worked! Service was a bit slow, but our server was good enough and got all of our orders right, refilled drinks. Clam chowder bread bowl, salmon sandwich, cold crab sandwich, and fish tacos with sides of coleslaw were all enjoyed. FYI's: 3% credit card charge definitely sucks, so keep that in mind or have cash. I love this place. It's our family tradition to go here the first night in town when we go RV-ing on the Smith River. Although you may have to wait a bit to be seated, the food is great - especially the clam chowder with its seasoned bread bowl. I enjoy all the retro and antique nautical themed decor as well. I had the calamari sitting out on your picnic tables. Having ordered the same calamari here for a few years (I live in Crescent City), I was literally shocked at how much smaller a portion was. The fries and coleslaw were alright. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder, it was a bit thick but tasty. My friend ordered Deep fried Shrimp & Fries with slaw. There was only got 6 shrimp! They were not even colossal, just average size! Definitely would expect more perfection, quality and quantity considering the prices we paid! This small-town restaurant has a beautiful view of the ocean. My husband and I ate here twice during our time in Crescent City. On night one, we had Fish, Shrimp, chips, and clams, all of which were amazing. They also had non-alcoholic beer, which I greatly appreciated. On night two, we had the parmesan-crusted halibut, but while good, I preferred the Fish and chips. Given the limited number of restaurants in Crescent City, this place is a must. read more

If you want a good fish and chips place, this is it. Some good views of the ocean and harbor. Price point is average. The grilled fish tacos were great. The coleslaw was good, the tater sauce was good. The seafood combo was average size. The quality was great. The cod was fried perfectly, the scallops fried perfectly (not over done), the fried shrimp was average size, but they nailed the frying, it had just the right texture, which is hard to achieve. The fries were crispy. The clam chowder was thick and creamy, not to much potato. Each plate that went by looked good. You can get the seafood combo grilled as well, I bet that is great if you're watching what you eat. Just saw the crab Louie salad go by and that looked great as well. We asked about the tax, and the awful server replied "We have tax here in California, hun" in a tone suggesting that she was somehow above us just because we're Asian, as if we haven't lived in California for years! Because all of the table seat four or more people, they put couples together at the same table like a German Biergärten. They also don't seat you. Had dinner there this evening (June 19, 2026). The wait staff was great.. but the food was way too expensive for what you get. My granddaughter had the $26.00 hamburger with fries, my advice is to stick to the burger if you are going to eat there. My $55 Rockfish dinner meal was mostly brown rice, which was luke warm, 3 spears of asparagus and then a piece of rockfish perched on top of a plate of brown rice. Also the wait time for the food was very very long. The view was fabulous of course.. and the staff was very great.. but I will stick to an appetizer in the future. read more

Came to Cresent City to go to the beach and then decided to come here to get some fish and chips. Great place to eat by the ocean. Just watch the surfers do their thing or if your lucky....you can see the sea lions chilling on the rocks. Inside, this place has all the nautical decor that was expected. Clean, open and inviting. We were greated by a super friendly lady and she told us we could sit anywhere. She gave us our menus and we ordered some fish and chips with a side bowl of chowder. The chowder came right away. It was warm and a bit on the bland side. More like a potatoe chowder. 10 minutes later the fish and chips were served. Fast service! The fish and chips were hot and fresh. They tasted great being beer battered. A little on the greasy side, but still really good. The cole slaw was fresh and crunchy but a bit bland also, but not awful. A lot of older people were eating here so I'm guessing they don't spice things up for the older crowd maybe? We were pleasantly surprised with the wonderful meal and service we experienced at Chart Room. Our server was so friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding! They had a decent amount of vegetarian items, and the veggie melt in particular was seasoned perfectly. My father-in-law was raving about the clam chowder, which came in a massive bowl and was shared by three people as an appetizer. Make sure to request a seat with a view of the water!
